This tutorial was probably one of the most comprehensive yet easy to understand tutorials I have ever watched and I’ve been using Davinci Resolve for years. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! A massive thing I had no idea of how to do was the forward reverse speed ramps. I got around it by using the speed controls on the time line then switching to speed curves which showed the reverse control below 0 to -100 and beyond but this took me 4 years to figure out 🙏 Thank you so much.
My guy.. This is by far the best Speed Ramp tutorial I've seen on RUclips!! You showed the most important things such as stabilizing the footage (properly) how to actually do the speed ramp the right way & how to make the speed ramp go with the beat! I subbed.
Dude, you made my day! Thanks a bunch! I was struggling with the stabilization of my footage as well as making that smooth speed ramps. Your tutorial fits my needs the best! This has to be the best speed ramp tutorial ever on RUclips! Very much appreciated!
Says it's not like other speedramp tutorials, piques curiosity (and doubt), then proves himself right by showing a great and simple method that works better than the typical re-time curve. Nice one dude, thank you 👏
Thank you guys for your support!🙏 I really appreciate it and You're awesome. 🔥🔥🔥 I know my audio sounds really bad, I was in a rush and i forgot to clean that. 🥶 But next time i'll pay more attention... But if think like this.. it could trigger the algorithm, because a lot of people commented about this. 😅 Just kidding, i'll clean my audio next time, cause i know how frustrating could it be. Happy editing! 😎
Hell yes! I'm happy to see you figured out the motion blur part, very comprehensive tutorial, you did great! I'm still exporting graded and stabilized clips and spped ramping in AE, mostly because i find everything way more intuitive for speed ramping and text work over there. Also the fact that fusion will not let you work with the clips surrounding it just drives me up a wall most of the time.
Thank you for sharing! I totally understand you. I used to use AE for speed ramping before, but i wanted to be more efficient and that's why I stayed in DR. I got everything there. The cut, Ramp, colorgrade, effects. But still really like how AE works in Speedramps. 😎
Great video! I honestly tried this just a bit ago and even though it has more control on the ramp through Fusion, I find it much easier to just use retime effects and select the easing of the ramp there. thank you for showing us this way though!
BRO!!! 😱🤯 , this video is so golden. I love you for it gosh, I’ve been waiting for someone to create a tutorial like this. Cause next year I want to start getting into car edits more. Thank you for this, and yes! Your method is way cleaner and better than the retime speed method 👏🏾👌🏾🤝🏾
There's a MUCH simpler way. In edit page, when you've set your keyframe and curve, hold Command key (don't know windows equivalent) and now you can can control either arm individually to adjust your curve to your preference. Saved me years of workarounds.
Hi! Thank you for sharing! 🙏 Could you explain it more to me? I'm not sure, I did it right 😅 But it sounds really interesting. So if I'm in the edit page and I made the keyframes. Keyframes on "retime speed" or where?
@@petersroom sure thing! for reference, go to minute 1:36, your keyframe has handles on both sides. if you drag the handle (the little red dot at the end of the handle) while holding command, you'll affect the curve only on that side without affecting the other.
@@petersroom Yeah I guess the workaround would be to cut the clip, make the rest a new comp, and then reverse 🤷♂ awesome work though! keep it up brother!

Man, that was awesome! I'm switching from Premiere Pro to Davinci and this really helped me out! Also, just a quick question - wouldn't it be faster if you find the music first, make the markers to the beat and then make the ramps according to that? It's going to save you time by doing the ramps once and then changing them later on to match them with the beat of the music. Great video!
@@crimson5480 hey! Thanks! 🫶 You’re right, but I thought it could distract the viewer at first if i start with the music. So thats why i made this way. But you can change the steps if you feel. 😎
@@petersroom yeah, makes sense now that I think about it. For the sake of the tutorial it's not going to be better to start a video about speed ramping with music timing lol keep up the good work!
Quite an in-depth tutorial..!! Really helpful. I was mostly using capcut for these kind of speed ramps which were much much easier to do than with retime speed. Somehow I always felt retime method was bit choppy. Looking forward to learning more with fusion.
Great Tutorial! But what if I have footage that hasn't enough frames so it stutters. There is a button in the TimeStretcher to use flow instead of frame blend which works fine in the Retime Controls method but with the TimeStretcher the footage simply stops moving.
This video was super helpful, thanks! Are you able to do multiple speed ramps on one clip? I have a long clip that I want to speed up and slow down throughout for one long take shot but wasn't sure how to go about doing that
If you select the audio clip before making the markers, the markers will be on the audio track. So, if you need to move the audio, your markers are still correct
Great video, I learned a lot! One question, why do you create a separate fusion clip after the stabilisation? Can’t you just add the speed node right after the transform node from the stab bit and do it all at once?

hey man may i know your playback settings? because when i try to do some playback it always lags pretty bad especially after tracking, even when i used cache its still taking quite a long time. cheers mate love the tutorial
Hey! My render cache set to DNxHR. And make sure you're working in a 1080p timeline and not 4k. So always make your stuff in 1080p and set to 4k at the end and render it.
Awesome tutorial bro! I have a question related to frame rate, normally if I shoot 120fps I am able to slow it down to 20%, and you are able to see that on the edit page to set the right amount. Is there a way to se that on the time strecher node? or you just use it to make speed up the clip?
Thanks bro! 🫶 you dont need to check how much could you go down. Because there is a frame blending inside the time stretcher. So you can go under 20% even 1% too. Thats why you need a high fps.
So I have used retime curves for 4 years now and this has superior control - however how do you manage your frame rate for example, if I have a 4k60 clip, i can slow to 50% in retime curves - but how do i make sure i do that with this curve? I am not interested in using optical flow or speedwarp every time - and the frame blend does not look super clean
Awesome tutorial, Peter! I had a quick question for you about using high FPS on a 24fps timeline. When importing your footage into a 24fps timeline, do you change the clip speed or use optical flow? I don't know how to convert the footage so that it plays back smoothly.
Thanks! If you shoot 60fps, just drop it to the 24fps timeline. I don't touch to the speed. I let time stretcher work because it does the frame blending too.
