The intense EVIL that Peril was portrayed with was just- 🤌✨ so ridiculous, I LOVED that hilarious artistic choice!! 😂
I love all the details that Mike drew! Like when they were spying on Scarlet, Qiblis face expressions are golden. Winter and Qibli are the dynamic duo.

One of my favorite art pieces in the book was after icicle was captured by the rainwings and moon and winter talk about how he wouldn’t kill glory. That one art piece with moon with the frog on her talons is so good I can’t even begin to say how much it describes the scene as a whole. Like the moment I saw that I was just like “wow why is the artwork sooooo gorgeous”
I loved reading the graphic novel. The art was awesome, and this was my favorite to read. The icewing drawings were much better in this graphic novel than the others.

Winter felt so much more in love with qibli in the book
So it’s absolutely amazing
I expect them to lean even more into the Qinter bait for the book 10 graphic novel.
That one page where Qibli has his talon on winter’s shoulder or the other where he grabs winter’s shoulders and share an ✨emotional moment✨
I loved the perfect balance of winterwatcher and winter moments in it, even a little moonbli
For the icewing wall of names, I imagined a big block of ice with names that got magically engraved in it whenever an Icewing was born and you could stab your claw into the engravings and the names would move as easy as moving your mouse on a computer.
I'm surprised to get this as soon as it came out! I rarely get to channels videos as soon as they come out, especially when its from one of my favorites!

I'd say Winter Turning is my fourth favorite book in the series, and seeing it come to life just took me back. For one thing WT, back-to-back with MR, is what really cemented my love for the series. I've always been one of those guys who loves analyzing the big picture, reading between the lines, figuring out the subtext, and seing how all the plot threads come together. I feel like Books 6&7 are at that equilibrium where Tui's strengths as a writer really start coming into their own and before some of her shortcomings start to become more noticeable.
I wasn’t the biggest fan of the Winger Turning book, but the graphic novel helped me change my mind
The art just keeps getting better!! The graphic novels is what made me start doing wof art!!! They will always have a special place in my heart.
Pyrite’s character design is perfection.

I’m so excited to read it! I’ve been waiting for sooooo long lol
(you might recognize me from the previous video but its totally fine if you dont) I havent read the graphic novels yet (will do when i have read books 11-15). But i love the drawings! I pictured the icewing rankings wall to be one of those slidey things you played with as a kid that were at most playgrounds. hope you know what i mean :) And also the fact that you care about spoilers and the people who havent read up untill that point makes me very happy! Keep up the amazing work you are doing! (Also to answer question of the day, I like both but i get Slushees more often because shaved ice isnt so known where im from)
All my thoughts (Contains Spoilers):
- Got this GN 3 days after release. I absolutely think that this is the best graphic novel so far. I think the ominous intensity of scarlet’s (the scene where she dreamvisits Winter) and Darkstalker’s (the scene where he kills his dad in Winter’s story) art are the best. I literally read the book three times in a row before I continue my WOF-reading journey, or re-reading journey.
- I actually read the graphic novels first before the novels. And I didnt read the dragonet prophecy novel until I finished reading book 15... And honestly, after that I feel like Peril is kinda overrated, but still my fav WOF character. Also yes, I would like to see Hvitur’s death, absolutely. I kinda wish there’s a Darkstalker graphic novel after Escaping Peril, since its released next.
- This GN kinda makes winter feels like less of a jerk
- The art is genuinely insane. The shading, the less harsh art style (compare to GN style), and how cute the characters are. AHHHH I LOVE IT
- I kinda struggle to figure out the art difference between Moon rising and Winter turning.
- I realize how the rainwings undergo an art style transition (Rounder face shape, Shorter snout), I think around the second arc, I forgot when it started, 6 or 7. I prefer the previous version.
- Glacier looks worse than she was on book 4 (controversial, but I like how old she looks). Ruby looks awesome here. Pyrite’s cute af, which makes me sad since, if you know you know, because Ive read the novel before the GN. Icicle looks like an absolute psycopath, I love her! Im speechless about the scenery. For the IceWing wall, I imagine just a tall, blue ice board where names are carved out on it. I also love Foeslayer’s design.
- I set the last page (Peril) as my phone wallpaper.
- I hope Escaping Peril’s good too, since she is my favorite WOF character.
The graphic novel is amazing, the only problem I have with it is the same same problem I have with all the graphic novels, unclear speech bubbles. It's not that much of an issue when reading alone because you can realize who's talking based on context pretty quickly, however something I like doing with the graphic novels is dubbing them with my friends. It's very often that we have to pause our reading to figure out who's saying what. Sometimes it's straight up guessing. The graphic novels would benefit greatly from color coded speech bubbles. Even so there's occasionally issues with figuring out which speech bubble should be read first. A minor nitpick, but something I hope to see fixed eventually
Ordered I as soon as I saw it, I loved it SO MUCH, and I am very excited for Escaping Peril

I said this in another video, but in one page (I think that scene where moon was drawing the mountains in icicle’s dream) it’s shown that moon is drawing with her left hand. Moon is left handed!

My only complaint about the graphic novel is that Glory’s snout was pushed in as if she were a dragonet. Her snout even didn’t look like that in the book 3 graphic novel so I was confused why Mike Holmes pushed her snout in.
My school library just got it and I'm sooo happy!! The librarian let me read it as soon as she got the library sticker on it and I'm sooo happy!!!
I think the only thing I would change about winters graphic novel is the way pyrite transformed into hailstorm. PERSONALLY, i pictured it to be more melty and gore filled, but I still love the way he kind of just shed pyrite off like a snake.

Yeah I never realized that there were two I’d on the spine until you pointed that out
I bought the graphic novel for several reasons. One, even though I already read the original book twice, I still bought it for the art. I also bought it for the fact that money talks louder than blogs. You gotta pay to play, or it goes away, folks. Thankfully, the Winter Turning book has good sales numbers, so Escaping Peril will hopefully be out by next Christmas. (I look forward to seeing how my guy Darkstalker is drawn.)
Similar reasons here too, I’ve read the book twice already, and I prefer the book, but I love the graphic novel for the art, and getting to see what happens in the book play out essentially.

Winter Turning was the first text novel I read (after finishing the graphic novels, as I came upon the series only partway through last year!!), and it's always had a special place to me for some reason, likely because of that, but also it just felt like such a wide reaching adventure with numerous locations and story beats and twists, could almost call it my favourite of the WoF books. So when the graphic novel came out it was a fun time revisiting that story I so enjoyed but this time illustrated. So yes, I agree, I couldn't fault it (except for not being longer! haha, oh well we know it can't capture everything unless we want to wait two years instesd of just one). Good book!

When you first read the Graphic Novel, you might notice that Pyrite in the prologue looks different from Pyrite in the main story
You could chalk it up to Mike being inconsistent, BUT look closely & you'll see it's actually because Main story Pyrite has Hailstorms jawline!

Yeah I noticed that too, pyrite in the beginning looks somewhat different, as well as when winter tried on the necklace. The character design is consistent for hailstorm though.

After looking closer she doesn’t just have the same jawline, but the same overall facial structure. It’s almost uncanny at times.
Reading the graphic novel and the ice trail scene, it made me think of a What if, where if all the dragons (that where well, still together that nothing was broken off) what would happen if they where set free like Foeslayer?

I love how much they improved the Icewing designs in this book. I’ve never liked how Icewing ga looked both in the main books and previous graphic novels, but I thinks characters like Winter had an extreme blowup, to the point where I can actually tell their emotions.
The red Skywing at 3:57 is actually Vermillion, (one of Ruby's brothers) not Ruby
It's Ruby or one of Scarlet's other daughters. If you read the prologue in the Winter Turning book (pg5), it says she has "small rubies glittering from between the scales around her eyes, wears silver rings with larger rubies on them around her claws."
I wonder how moon and kinkajou felt about bandit in that story.
The Winter Turning graphic novel is near perfection, but I have two things against it: Lynx needs a redesign. Something about her colour seems off; two, they didn't include the practice fight scene between Winter and Lynx. Otherwise, if we ignore this, the graphic novel, as you said, was perfect.
I agree with your opinion on Lynx. She looks really grayish blue in the book and I always imagined her with light purple undertones
I think it'll be pretty cool if / when the WillowHeart dubs get to Arc 2, and they get to put voices to the great page art.
I can, and probably every wok graphic novel reader can agree that Arc 2 graphic novels are getting better and better each one. Im so excited for Escaping Paril I can hardly wait

I remember when I saw Icicle, I got jumpscared! I was not expecting her to be all… augh, it was drawn so well! I visibly was uncomfortable with my thoughts saying “she is NOT ok 😰”

Winter Turning? More like Winter Turniing
Winter's still a self-loathing xenophobe, though; an unlikable protagonist all around. Chameleon's ambush of the Jade Winglet and assault on Kinkajou felt shoehorned in, and the Diamond Trial felt rushed. I was disappointed when neither Winter nor Foeslayer mentioned Prince Arctic by name, as they do in the original novel.
