    I really don’t agree with people who say that The Dangerous Gift messed up with Snowfall’s character development. Considering it’s length, it’s a lot better than most other WoF books in that regard! I also feel like the dragons were never as much anti scavenger as much as they were just,,, ignoring them or using them as prey. There didn’t have to be that big of a change, considering that 2 out of 7 Phyrrian tribes really had something against Scavengers to begin with.

    Best part of Flames of Hope was the Secret Stealth Team. (Qibli!) BUT YOU NEVER SEE HALF OF THEM FOR 90% OF THE BOOK!

  • @00loneX

    I genuinely hope that when/if Tui returns to WoF to write a 4th arc, she takes a good hard look at why Legends Darkstalker is considered her best work by many. I also hope she returns to previous protags instead of just writing new ones. There is plenty of untapped potential in a lot of them, arc 2s cast especially.
    My biggest personal gripe with all of Arc 3 was that the prose and dialogue took a huge nosedive. It was almost impossible to take any of it seriously because even when it wanted to be serious, it crammed goofy comic relief nonsense or wacky silly prose into nearly every page, or forced the characters to speak like grade school children spouting memes on a playground, even if they were an adult. The previous books had some of that but nowhere near to the degree arc 3 had.

      I was always reluctant to read WOF cause I tought it will be childish, it wasn't at all so far, reading escaping Peril, realy looking forward to read Darkstalker, and now my anticipation towards arc 3 turned into anxiety

  • @casemackay2896

    In my opinion the 3rd book is usually the standout of the arc or the winglet. I think this might be because Tui no longer needs to set up the main story of the arc or wrap it up. We get more time for descriptions and world building which is personally one of my favorite things about WoF.

  • @lk_3099
    @lk_3099 Год назад +6

    I do want arc 4 to happen, but I pray that Tui takes all this time away from Wings of Fire main books to get a strong idea for the whole arc that can surpass the best books in WoF.
    As much as I'd love another book with as much effort and dark themes as Legends Darkstalker, I fear we're past that era (I'd do anything for arc 4 to do something major).

    • @frannie4310
      @frannie4310 Год назад +3

      I agree, I really hope that’s why she’s taking a while to announce it (if it happens). I would love more WOF but only if Tui is able to find an idea that she’s passionate about and fully flesh it out. I really don’t want it to become a series that Tui feels forced to keep writing, for her sake and the sake of the series.

    • @lk_3099
      @lk_3099 Год назад +2

      @@frannie4310 I believe when she said she doesn't want to stop writing Wings of Fire, but I hope she takes her time.
      I know the first two arcs were written very quickly (2-3 years each + Winglets and Legends Darkstalker) while arc 3 took around 5 years, but I think she just needs a stronger foundation to keep the arc coherent.
      Since we don't have to establish too many new characters and no new settings I hope it's easier to have a concept ready to go.

    Before this video premieres, I’m just gonna guess the ranking (worst to best)
    Dragonslayer
    The Dangerous Gift
    The Hive Queen
    The Dark Secret
    The Flames of Hope
    The Lost Continent
    Prisoners
    Runaway
    The Lost Heir
    Winter Turning
    Darkness of Dragons
    The Dragonet Prophecy
    Talons of Power
    Moon Rising
    The Poison Jungle
    Assassin
    The Hidden Kingdom
    The Brightest Night
    Escaping Peril
    Deserter
    Darkstalker (obviously)
    Edit: Charcoal, please don’t make a video about the Moon x Winter x Qibli love triangle. There really isn’t much to talk about, because we don’t spend a lot of time with them. Seriously, I REALLY don’t get why Moonbli is so popular! I get why Winter likes Moon, but why Qibli!
    I reread Legends: Darkstalker recently. Those last few chapters solidified this book as the best book I’ve ever read
    Another edit:
    My personal ranking, except for Dragonslayer because I don’t have time to read a 496 page book that a lot of people hate:
    The Flames of Hope, The Hive Queen, The Dangerous Gift, The Dark Secret, Prisoners, Runaway, The Lost Heir, The Lost Continent, Winter Turning, Darkness of Dragons, Talons of Power, Moon Rising, The Poison Jungle, The Dragonet Prophecy, The Hidden Kingdom, Assassin, The Brightest Night, Deserter, Escaping Peril, Darkstalker

    My critique of wof Darkstalker is that it could have been longer with more world building and generally a taste for the world 2,000 years ago also I feel like the intent was to have the trip (of Fathom and Indigo) be longer and the sudden friendship between Fathom and Darkstalker/Clearsight and trust seems weird

      i mean, im only on book 14, but i personally think that the arc you like the best depends on your personal likings. My favourite is arc 1, because of the DoDs, the amazing well thought out plot, and ofc the ships (ripnami,glorybringer,clayril), but most people actually like arc 2. i liked arc 2 but the plot was a little messy. With arc 3, if you like worldbuilding, arc 3 is super good.

    I love how you ripp into dragonslayer early, seriesly Dragon Slayer missed the mark for introducing and having Sky play a crucial role in Arc 3 so badly, my preferred alternative would be Legands: Kestral with the first third finally ironing out Kestrel's story up until she flees from scarlet and the later two thirds being focused on Sky and Peril's separate stories before and for sky during the events of the first two arcs before Culminating in their meeting just prior to the events of the Dangerous Gift

    I think 7 is just when they s*xually mature - kind of like how girls can get pregnant as earlier as 10 or 12. Adults are probably later, and Deathbringer might actually be considered a teen. Dragon ages are hard to actually compare as there is none put down. It's still weird, obviously. If they were both fully grown, I think it would be ok if there was an age gap, and they obviously don't have at least one child until they're older (as in Moonwatcher's vision), so there's that. But the ages they got together is still a bit wrong. He was probably around 6 or so when she was born. I wish their relationship had waited, or was at least a bit smaller. But who knows, maybe in the dragon world this actually isn't bad? Their age system might work differently. Like, for example, if morrowseer had a mate that was 20 it would probably be seen as weird. Or maybe more 12? And not because it would be a large gap - but because that's still "youth." Either way, Deathbringer is too old for glory at the time.

    Wings of Fire has the potential to be a phenomenal media franchise, but its numerous plot holes and flaws make leeway for filmmakers. For example, if I were a producer adapting the series into film or television, I would omit animus magic, Pantala and the Pantalan tribes from the story. Dragons can and are powerful, majestic and special without magic; Arc 3 shouldn't even exist in the first place, anyway.

  • @trainman666
    @trainman666 Год назад +3

    Good list. I agree with most of your opinions, but I disagree with a lot of others. Dragonslayer for one. I'd put that one up a little higher. I personally thought it was marginally better than Flames of Hope because it at least consistent with the events of the first arc, and I feel that Ivy and Leaf are more interesting than given credit, especially considering how they interact with each other and get to the bottom of the conspiracy that befalls Ivy's home. Yea, the story was predictable except for Wren, but they at least contributed SOMETHING to the overall plot and we understood what was happening from their perspective which would have been impossible to write from a dragon's. The groundwork was there, but I do agree that it could have been handled better, but I don't think it's really as bad as everyone says it is. I personally think the negativity is more of a knee-jerk reaction because it's from a human's perspective and not a dragon's.
    I would have put Qibli's book a little higher on the list as well because Qibli's just such a lovable goofball, and at least the first two parts of his book give Qibli something to do while Turtle is off on his adventure. I love the dynamic he has with his "family" and I use that term loosely, and Winter coming along for the ride. Best of all it still has him worrying about Darkstalker and how much of a looming threat he still is. The plot doesn't forget about it and does everything it needs to to remind the readers that it's going on.
    I might put Assassin a little bit lower, but everything else is about where I would put them.
