Thank you. They are pretty cool compared to the old ones we used to have. They do give you a heads up that they are about to start so you have an option to go and press silence before it starts.
oh wow ok, so if you didnt know smoke alarms actually run on their entirely own dedicated curcit on the breaker. whenever you turned off the breaker to THAT room it didnt actually turn off the smoke detector itself. (i can confirm this as the AC light was still on) you were EXTREMELY lucky not to get a harsh 120v shock,
No, most of the time they’re ran in the same circuit as something that would be obvious if it was off. Meaning, if your master bedroom lights aren’t working, then you know that your smoke alarms aren’t either. It’s also to discourage home owners from leaving their smoke alarms without 120v power. I’m not saying that’s what happened here, but it is just something to point out.
I got the nest protect so it would send alerts to my iPhone. I cannot get it to recognize my Wi-Fi or my phone to recognize the Wi-Fi that the Nest is transmitting. Without that ability the Nest is just another smoke detector! Show us how to network.
It has been a while since I did the install but if I remember correctly you need to download the app and from the app you need to scan the "square" on the device and follow the steps from there it will ask you for your wi fi password and when that is set up you are good to go and you will receive notifications on your phone if you choose that option. If you change your wifi password you may need to do the setup all over again. Good Luck!
Not exactly sure what you mean by that it has been a few years since I did the original installation.. but you might be right. :) By all means go a head and press it again if that is what works. Thanks for watching.
@@mammaviking I think what op meant was that you had to press the button twice within the time frame to test the alarm. Towards the end of the video, it seems that after the first press activates the voice prompt and blue ring letting you know press to test, the second press you held the button down which is probably why it didn't go through. A short press all is needed. :)
Nice well done I really wish I had it
