Thanks for showing these off and opening my eyes to alternatives to the main players in the smartphone game.
Nokia-HMD phone user here. The HMD Skyline comes with Android 14 with only 2 years software updates. It came out during the summer here in Germany for €500. The repair stuff is great BUT the cost for only 2 updates was not a good selling point 📱
If it had a headphone jack I'd pick one up immediately (I work with music and audio editing, Bluetooth just isn't up to snuff), but as it goes this is ticking every other box. I may get one when my current phone dies, if there isn't anything better on the market by then. Definitely gonna recommend this to friends tho 💙
Usually, most of phones works well with "USB-C to audio out" cable. I already try this with Samsung, Pixel and One Plus - flawless. Nokia should works as well.
I got an HMD Pulse+ from work and that has headphone jack. While the Pulse+ is a fine work phone I wouldn't use it as a daily driver, but it does come with guides & parts on Ifixit like the Fusioo and the Skyline. Disassembly is a bit more difficult (requires a pick, and maybe som acetyl alcohol depending on your fix) but doable.

Brilliant to sell people a phone that they can change the battery in, in 3 years time, but at that time it will not receive any more OS or security updates. I wonder who would want to change the battery on a vulnerable phone with an OS that is outdated.
@@arjunjs8075 Not a brilliant concept to make it repairable but give it so bad software update policy that it makes the repairability worthless. Had this been a $100-200 phone the 2 major android updates could be forgiven, but this is not a cheap phone so totally inexcusable.
@@arjunjs8075 For me it is MUCH more likely that i will have to replace my battery. I have a 3 year old phone right now, the battery does not even last me a day of normal use, but honestly i refuse to replace it, until there is an android phone with QI2 that has decent specs and a matching software update policy. And a flat screen....The curved nonsense has to stop, it makes the screen 1000 times more liable to crack.
Just a shame that it will only get 2 android updates and 3 years of security updates. Will be thoroughly obsolete before needing the first battery replacement, which kind of defeats the purpose..
I am seriously considering a new HMD phone. I've already owned a Nokia 8 and I currently have a Nokia X30. These are super robust phones. Machined aluminium and the build quality is just beautiful. The best of all is they are actually priced like mobile phones should be!!! Great company
I wish for rugged clam case that is IP68 while letting the buttons stay on the outside, and use the case pins to have an external fingerprint sensor, external top flashlight bar, and external battery that is ×1.5 the internal battery, bringing the phone to ×2.5 total battery capacity, and be able to simul drain and charge, with lower and upper limits, because i will se it to announce me at 30% to charge, up to 70% with notification, and to stop at 80% by itself. (And to keep the cameras sealed, you get gorilla glass reinforced edge rectangle over the camera bump, with a padded support on the actual camera bump, but sealed from elements ... and also a silica gel absorber in 2 corners that have an external indicator for when you need to change them, to keep everything dry, but also thermal pad, and thermal conducting areas that let the phone cool off inside the weather protective clam, i would pay half the phone worth just for such a case.)
These just jumped to the front of the line in consideration for my next phone replacement. Sony was the previous frontrunner as one of the last to include a HiFi dac and headphone jack.
I'm so happy it did well. I JUST bought the skyline. The sd card slot still present, the self repair. It's not as powerful as my original phone, but considering? Screw it. I can actually store things. People keep shouting storage is cheap. Maybe, but that doesn't help if I can't expand it as needed. It does what I need it to just fine sans ONE thing. No it's not the headphone jack. It's the speakers could've used an upgrade. Definitely a downgrade from my old phone. In addition, it's real slippery without without a case. But that's kinda just...standard now with premium materials. Already led to a few scratches and thank god not a break. But knowing screen repair is that dead simple has been such a relief.
The Skyline has quite possibly the ugliest front on a phone I have ever seen. It's a square body with a screen with rounded edges. It just looks... wrong.
I honestly think it's brilliant, you have metal protecting the the corners of the front of the screen, and if you have been around long enough this design comes from nokia.
But what is the point of being able to change the battery in 3-4 years when it is worn, if the phone only get 2 OS updates. Started off with A14, A15 has been released so in 10 months time the last OS this phone will get is being released. So when the battery is going bad, A18 will be out, and this phone will still be on A16 and as it only gets 3 years of security updates, it will be both outdated on OS and vulnerable because it does not get any security updates either

@pixelgaming7261 I never used the word "mentioned," I said, "referencing." As in "what you are referring to." You need to put the timestamps before the statement you are referencing. Otherwise, when anybody clicks the timestamp to see what statement the video maker is saying to know the context of what you're talking about, no one will know because when they click it, they will be taken to right after he's said the statement youre talking about / referring to. The whole point of timestamps is to have a "stamp" leading to the "time" a comment is referring to instead of having to type the whole context of the part of the video you're talking about. You're using them wrong if you aren't providing context to what you're talking about. Like think about it. What purpose does your timestamps you put serve when you click on them? Nothing, cause when you click on them the context that you're talking about is gone cause you put them after he's done saying anything. It's weird when I use your time stamp to figure out what you are talking about and then be confused about what you are talking about and have to awkwardly rewind 20 seconds to find out when it could just be at the beginning of the statement in the first place (where it should be) ya know?

Hey, don't forget the Fairphone, the repair also doesn't void the warranty. I know it's not available in the US but still..
I wish they were sold in my country.
Yeah... Fairphone appears more clean and generally more repair friendly on the fly... since I can swap batteries out while walking about if low on battery since my charging cables always break
I think you can buy it in the us now
$30 battery replacement sold me. The fusion looks great
I am very interested in this phone. I was just recently burned because my $1000 laptop turned into a paperweight because it is not repair friendly.
So I bought a Framework Laptop because it's repairable and upgradable.
What id really like to see is these HMD phones be like framework where I could buy the board/processor of an updated model and put it in the phone.
Either way, a user serviceable battery/screen is exactly what I think many users have been asking for.
Thanks for showing these off and opening my eyes to alternatives to the main players in the smartphone game.
Zach having no chill with stupid off center camera bumps makes my day. Never stop.
Nokia-HMD phone user here. The HMD Skyline comes with Android 14 with only 2 years software updates. It came out during the summer here in Germany for €500. The repair stuff is great BUT the cost for only 2 updates was not a good selling point 📱
what about security updates? is that 2 years too? that would be a deal breaker
@@xxxent 2 years software, 3 years security, not for €500. It's on sale at HMD Germany for €399 now. Still overpriced 🚬📱
I don't know what they were thinking. It's would be better to just buy a Fairphone 5. There's a promise of 10 years of support.
Any bloatwares or ads you cant remove or disable?
@yajnalgibno6536 no real bloat ware, security updates are not consistent, but that is a HMD thing 📱🛜
While the Pulse+ is a fine work phone I wouldn't use it as a daily driver, but it does come with guides & parts on Ifixit like the Fusioo and the Skyline. brilliant concept from HMD
self repairability for the customers
less after sale service hassle for the company
Brilliant to sell people a phone that they can change the battery in, in 3 years time, but at that time it will not receive any more OS or security updates.

I am seriously considering a new HMD phone. I've already owned a Nokia 8 and I currently have a Nokia X30. These are super robust phones. Machined aluminium and the build quality is just beautiful. The best of all is they are actually priced like mobile phones should be!!! Great company
looks like a cool phone, i like the USB port on a breakaway board. Most modern phones make it impossible to fix.
Being a proud owner of the HMD Skyline, I have been waiting for this.
Have you ever opened it?
How’s it been going? Any problems?

It just looks... wrong.

@pixelgaming7261 I never used the word "mentioned,"

You need to put the timestamps before the statement you are referencing.
