- Fresh off an impressive road win at the Rams, Jimmy Johnson's 4-7 Cowboys are back home in Dallas for their traditional Thanksgiving Day game against their traditional rivals, the 6-5 Washington Redskins. Can Troy and the 'Boys finally win a division game at home, or will it be the veteran-laden Redskins taking a step closer to a playoff berth?
Pat Summerall and John Madden call the action from Texas Stadium for CBS. Enjoy!
PS: I've included the pregame show by special request. For the opening kickoff, jump ahead to the 20:00 mark. Спорт
Who else misses Madden and Summerall on Sunday evenings?
Yes. I miss the Redskins too.
Who doesn’t
Totally miss them. That's why I'm watching now. I miss this era.
They were the best to ever do it
This was like a coming of age game for the young boys
On my one and only visit to America, I went to this game but all I can remember from it was Irvin's TD and Emmitt's 2nd. Thank you for allowing me to relive it.
OMG! I love this! Made me smile so much. I was searching for the music that they used to play after first downs and found this. Took me right back to my childhood. Such great memories!!!
You are not only Troy’s hero but you are my mine, too!
Thanks Ryan!
This marked a turnaround that this team could be something. They went on to win this game and essentially had a 7-7 record. All they needed was one game to get the last wildcard spot. Sadly Aikman got hurt during the Eagles game and Babe Lauffenberg the backup just wasn't it. So the next year Jimmy went out and got Steve Beurerlin and the rest is history.
Yes. They accomplished three things: they won, they won on Thanksgiving and they beat the Redskins.
Fun fact… This would be the final game, that the Cowboys hosted at Texas Stadium, to be blacked out locally because they didn’t sell out the required number of tickets on time. The Cowboys would sell out Texas Stadium for home games for the remainder of its existence.
Amazing. The game was blacked out? Damn you’d think the team or station would buy the tickets
@@cbod14 There was, in fairness, a ton of resentment for Jerry Jones after the way he treated Tom Landry back in 1989. The Cowboys' 1990 home opener (against San Diego on NBC) drew only 42,000+. The 1990 home game against Tampa Bay was also blacked out locally. This Cowboys, going into this game against Washington, were 4-7 and was the first of three consecutive games at home (the other two being against Phoenix and New Orleans). The team went 3-2 down the stretch to finish 7-9 -- earning Jimmy Johnson Coach of the Year honors in the process.
I like to think it was this game that led to the Cowboys' resurgence in fan popularity and, perhaps, the easing of said resentment towards Jerry jones.
@@jjgillmen Oh I remember the resentment. I guess living in NYC for most of my life I always found stories of team blackouts unusual. Especially in Dallas & Philadelphia.
@@cbod14 I have lived in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex throughout most of my life, since I was a little kid. Cowboys games were, believe it or not, routinely blacked out during the late 1980s. It was around the same time that SMU football got the death penalty, and the oil bust was going on. the Cowboys were in a state of decline through those years, and something had to give. In retrospect, as much as I dislike Jerry Jones for firing, Tom Landry, the way he did, it had to be done. The rest would be history from there.
@@jjgillmen I think that is what people took issue with, the way it was done. Walking on a golf course & firing him was tasteless. I agree it had to be done the funniest thing is the revisionist history from fans when he was fired. Everyone and their mother wanted him gone. Same for Shula & Chuck Noll at the time. They were all on a Sports Illustrated cover under the headline: Under Fire. Shula would eventually make the playoffs a few more times, 1990 was one of those years
2:46:30 - John Madden was right about the future the Cowboys would have after the 1990 season.
So true. Thought the same thing when i heard it before seeing your post.
This was a year the Thanksgiving rotation was altered.
In 1990, Dallas hosted only 1 AFC game at Texas Stadium: San Diego, which ended up being in week 1 and Aikman’s first NFL win
Thus, the Cowboys played back to back Thanksgiving games on CBS
Another strange schedule. One AFC game at home, but 2 games against Tampa Bay. I would rather have had Elway come to Texas Stadium.
That first Tampa Bay game was Emmitt Smith first start. Dallas won both those games.
I was too little to remember this game but have seen the highlights countless times thanks for the uploads as always Ryan#cowboysnation
Thanks for the post, the history of this is amazing
This is Emmitt Smith coming out game, he showed what he could do until 2004
Hey Ryan Bush do you happen to have 2006 Titans Vs Cowboys? Thanks for uploading the Cowboys games through the off-season!
No, I don't have that game yet.
Daryll Johnston...one of the last true fullbacks.
Right you are, He and Tom Rathman and Howard Griffith were the last true fullbacks. I have not the nfl in so long, it is arena football on a bigger field now.
R.I.P. Richard Lewis
Typical Cowboys game for this season. They started fast then faded but came alive in the 4th to win. Between Ken Willis' weak kick offs and the ineptitude of the Dallas kickoff coverage Washington consistently had good field position. Then throw in 10 Washington points off two Aikman interceptions. The Oline just needed to replace Crawford Ker to be the championship Oline. Emmitt's 48 yard TD run late in the 4th was a preview of things to come. He put a move on the NFL's fastest man Darryl Green.
