After watching this team decline in the last 30 years it's almost a total shock to see they were once this good. How the fans would love to see them play like this again.
PC football!? Hail the Commanders! Yes, I loved the Redskins, times pass and the franchise is still in Washington. Hell, I'd rather they play at RFK, but still...time passes.
I see Jay Schroeder in Vegas at times taking time to go be part of the Community. It's surreal seeing players I watched growing up right in front of me.
Schroeder, Doug Williams, Rypien, Theismann....DIDN'T NEED " all world" QB'S. Just kept the HOGS fed, drafted wisely & worked hard. Miss those glory years. HAIL......
Mark Rypien was only sacked 9 times in the entire 1991 season, that’s how great that line was. There are some teams that give up that many sacks in one game. It was a good thing too, because Rypien had a very bad habit of fumbling whenever he was sacked. The year prior, he cost them several games turning over the ball on sacks. The Hogs made sure that guy wasn’t touched the next year. Great receivers, awesome running backs and the greatest o-line in the NFL won them three world championships. Mostly the O-line. You never hear that mentioned much, but not one of the QBs under Gibbs were franchise type QBs with Hall Of Fame hopes. Who else did that? I don’t think any other coach did that four times. Even though he lost to the Raiders, they still made it to the show. I can’t think of any other coach who won multiple SBs without a HOF QB leading the way, much less with three different average QBs. Gibbs was brilliant.
@@RoarOfWolverine that Rypien stat you gave is truly an AMAZING one indeed. Don't forget about Bobby Beathard as GM. He,& Gibbs we're an awesome tandem. I really wanted the " Skins" to trade down to build up the offensive line this draft. I hope the rookie QB works out,but I'm a believer in building the O& D lines.
@@phillipcotton833 Beathard really shined in 1987, when he had to build a replacement team in nine days and the games counted. The Redskins went undefeated those three weeks and beat Dallas on Monday night with no veterans crossing the line. Dallas had 11 starters cross and two of them were HOF players, Dorsett and Randy White. Bobby was the architect of those early Gibbs teams for sure. Even though he was gone in 1991, Gibbs was still playing with 80% the team that Beathard had built. The only good thing Snyder ever did in the years he destroyed the franchise was to finally give all of the replacement players Super Bowl rings. Otherwise, he was a piece of shit who needed to go much earlier. I didn’t know this when the team changed its name, but it wasn’t just Fed Ex suddenly getting some moral change. My brother works in sports radio and he told me it was one of the lesser owners who was pissed, like everyone else, at Snyder, but had no real way of getting him back, so he knew some of the higher ups at Fed Ex and got them to threaten to pull their sponsorship if he didn’t change the name. He knew Snyder had promised fans he would never change the name, so forcing him to do so was a way to stick it to him. As far as I’m concerned, that other owner is a piece of garbage too. He didn’t just get at Snyder, but every fan of the Redskins beginning from 1936 until the name change. It really screws their history and stuff and it wasn’t necessary because every poll ever taken was more than 90% Native Americans saying that the name was not offensive and that it is more important that they don’t forgotten. Thanks is to Dan, the other owner and the assholes at Fed Ex, the Native Americans are just one more step to being completely forgotten about. There aren’t many of them left. I had heard that the largest Native American League in the world were suing the team to have the name reinstated as The Redskins. I’m sure they won’t win, but it does prove how non-offended they were by the name. It was a bunch of white Karen’s who got offended for the Native Americans, as they do for every race. Only cause they make money fighting bullshit causes, not because they care. They won’t stop until every product that uses any Native American imagery as their brand removed all signs of them ever existing.
Schroeder was better when he "didn't know what he didn't know" and would just go out and play football. He was really quite remarkable, he showed a lot of confidence and savvy in that first 1.5 years that belied his relative inexperience. Then, he got hurt in early 1997 and, for the first time, had a more than capable backup in Doug Williams who could take his job away from him. That's when he started "thinking about his game" and it started unraveling quickly from there. There were glimpses of the old Schroeder thereafter, but nothing he could sustain with any consistency. Still, if he was that prone to getting "off his game", it would've happened eventually regardless. Even if Williams wasn't breathing down his neck from the bench, something else would've gotten him off his game eventually. Just a shame though, because he really was a remarkable athlete. He'd just always focused on baseball prior to getting this chance with the Redskins.
3rd best team still doesn't get you to the final game, whatever the structure (or ought not to). Never understood this NFC rationalization, besides just regurgitating the obvious fact that the AFC was weak. You've still got to beat who you play to get through.
In 1986, the Washington REDSKINS beat everybody, except the New York Giants to whom they lost three times. The following year the Giants stumbled and the Redskins won the Super Bowl. Interesting to note, the Giants won the Super Bowl in 1990, followed by the Redskins in 1991. I think the 1991 Redskins team was more dominant than the 1987 team, while with the Giants it was the opposite. In any case, throughout that period, those two teams made each other better.
Shhh...you can't say things like that. Washington fans blame Schroeder for everything. Don't say anything positive about Schroeder. You might upset the woke Washington fans....(Sarcasm)
6-2 before Danny White got hurt, then they weren’t the same the second half of the season. They weren’t winning a championship or anything, but if White doesn’t get hurt, I say Landry gets a 21st consecutive winning season.
@@chrisuncleahmad666 I know. He led going into that Giants game as well. That is why I said we’d see in two weeks. Manley led coming in, LT led after that game

I’m telling you right now. There is six games left in the regular season. We know we can’t beat the Eagles. We’re gonna be lucky if we beat the Cowboys Sunday. I do not think we win three more games we will not make the playoffs this season.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
With Danny White gone for the season, the Cowboys just went down the toilet. They only one won game after his injury and the Redskins destroyed a team that was rudderless without Danny White. The Cowboys would go 7-9 and the Redskins would go 12-4, but went 0-3 against the Giants including the NFC Championship game which made it loss number 3.

The Best O line in The NFL
This was the 3rd best team under Gibbs' watch...Buddy Ryan said the only reason they didn't make the SB was bcuz they were in the NFC...my opinion

You only have to look at Jay Shroeders' career after the Skins to understand how important a good offensive line and good receivers are.

Amazing how massive the shoulder pads were back then.
A lot of people bash Danny White but in this game we see what Dallas was like without him. Earlier in the Season Dallas blew out Washington
It's so unfortunate that the 86 season just fell apart for Landry and the Cowboys
