    Thank you for giving this car a proper review. There are so many reviews out there of sports cars that spend 75% of the time talking about what the car looks like and how much storage space the trunk has instead of focusing on what people really care about, which is performance. You drove this car how it should have been driven and gave it a proper review. Keep up the good work.

    by far the best review i've seen of this car and easily one of the best reviews i've seen of any car. finally a reviewer who is informative but lacks the pretentiousness associated with so many other reviewers. exactly the kind of review car lovers want to see of a car: more in-car sights and sounds and less of the reviewer standing next to it naming off facts and figures we can google in seconds. i've just subscribed.

    Thank you for the great review Kevin Gordon, this is what we're looking for in reviews, everything else can be seen and read off the paper. A feedback from an actual driver enthuasiast is different, and also is important.

    OH, MY, GOSH! Superb review! I had an 06 coupe, which I've sadly had to part with. I always wanted the first genesis but for some reason they never imported it to the UK (something about pedestrian front bumper tests under UK law) but this. THIS is coming to the UK... SO excited. I got goosebumps when you beat the white car to the left turn and opened her up. and OMG the roundabout drift was AWESOME! please keep up these reviews!

    excellent camera angles. I'm glad somebody has finally figured a way to show the driver, the cockpit, and the road. I'm so tired of car review videos that only show the ego maniac driver while they ramble on and show very little of the car. Great video.

    Thanks! From your comment I'm actually going to spoof the standard "stand next to the car" review next time.

  • @Autosavant

    I didn't notice any grinding. Upshifts were smooth and easy to place. Downshifts were a bit more vague, but I never noticed any really tough engagements.

  • @Autosavant
    @Autosavant  12 лет назад +1

    I'm 6'1". If you went with an r spec (no sunroof) you'll be find a good seating position and be comfortable. With the upper spec models you might find that the sunroof intrudes a bit to much on head room.

  • @Autosavant
    @Autosavant  12 лет назад

    I had more video about it, but it was interrupted by nav and other drivers. (sorry about that) The 8 speed is pretty good. The only issue I had with it was the fact that it didn't appear to rev-match downshifts. Beyond that it isn't super "sporty" it shifts well and smoothly, but isn't as fast as some competitors.

  • @Autosavant

    This was a good comment and question. The sound levels on the highway are quiet. It would make a good long trip/high speed commuter.

    I love how you have set up the review on this one, an in car, real world driving review. The track reviews are nice, but this is really what I'm looking for when checking out a car since I won't be commuting on a race track. Hope you get to review the Subaru BRZ soon. Also any chance you did a review on the 2nd Gen Mazdaspeed3 (didn't find it on your channel)?

  • @Autosavant

    The limited slip dif help keep power balanced on the rear wheels. An example would be accelerating out of a tight turn. With the LSD the power will get put down and you might get the rear end to play a bit. Without the LSD the inside rear wheel will just spin.

  • @Autosavant
    @Autosavant  12 лет назад +1

    I would go R-Spec if you can only move up to the GT. That rear diff is a must.

  • @Autosavant
    @Autosavant  12 лет назад

    It is. It is the only leather option for that exterior color (which I forget).

  • @Autosavant
    @Autosavant  12 лет назад

    That is a tricky question. It handles quite well. It is balanced at the limit and can be provoked into throttle oversteer. Compared to BMW/Audi, the suspension doesn't have quite the damping refinement that you would normally find from the Germans, but because it has a real limited slip diff it does put down power out of corners better. Compared to Honda/Toyota.... I guess it depends on the model, but it is more enjoyable in corners than most things front wheel drive.

    Nice and informative review. Though I must say I would also like to see a review of the 2.0 Turbo, as it is both less expensive and it's ability to deliver all it's 274 torque at 2000rpm could make it an enjoyable drivers car as well for those on a bit more of a budget. Particularly given that the V6's price puts it neck and neck with a Mustang GT, and as a drivers car the Mustang tops the Genesis by a considerable margin, which can make the V6 a tough sell in that 30k price range.

  • @Autosavant

    The syncro's seemed pretty solid and I can report that the new engine would not be described as gutless. (If you are in the US) I want to know where you can pick up R32s for $5,000.

    I think the 5.0 mustang GT will remain a desirable car in the used car market for a long time to come. Just the thought of a 420hp 6spd manual sports coupe grabs my attention. I bet there are a lot of prospective used car shoppers that feel the same. That's why I'm speculating the resale value of the Mustang will remain high and have a much flatter depreciation curve compared to the Genesis.

    you too i'm having that problem as well the track model would make track days more fun but the GT model would be better for every day use. I'm leaning towards the 3.8L GT with manual or a 2013 mustang GT.

    I'm actually in a position where I'm deciding between a Mustang GT or the Gen Coupe but imo, the gen coupe is a better value. It provides power and luxury, which is something I like.
    Also, I don't the newer 5.0 will be some kind of instant classic. Mustangs are a dime a dozen nowadays, and I tend to see GTs all over the place. I feel like just because it's a 5.0 doesn't mean it incites the same awe as the original 5.0.

    Exactly what I have been saying. If I get this car I am going to look into a body kit to make the front end look meaner, May even drill out those fake hood vents. Those are the 2 places I think they messed up on.

  • @paladain55
    @paladain55 12 лет назад

    well, not really. irs has too much wheel hop for straight line stuff, and it is expensive to beef it up also. It has a lot more cons than you think. I know of 1 road that really gets it messed up where the concrete has been destroyed and patched 100x's in the corner, but past that it can actually handle most bumps pretty well. You still have to correct yourself a tad but its not that bad

  • @kjparlay
    @kjparlay 12 лет назад

    Also, the most expensive of the first gens (3.8 Track) were less than 33,000 brand new. Maybe you meant 26,000 because that's how much the 2.0T cost.

  • @pizzaonastick
    @pizzaonastick 12 лет назад

    Yeah I looked at the Mustang too. But for the same price with a Genesis you get a) a car that can corner a lot better and b) more features. You can upgrade the Mustang, of course, but it gets pricey.

  • @FerninKer
    @FerninKer 12 лет назад

    And yet look what it can accomplish with that mere 200hp. Look what several of the other cars I mentioned have done with that much, and sometimes even less. A drivers car/sports car is just that, an intention, and build purpose, and a desire in the engineers. No one designed the BRZ to get groceries, it was meant for tracks and twisting mountain roads. And that fact, is inarguable.

    Yeah, I've heard even from the factory, Ford has worked some kind of magic with the mustang's live axle.. But it's still like saying "He's the thinnest kid at fat camp" I just feel like it could be a much MUCH better car if it had fully independent suspension

    lol...this nav system has a very easy-to-access mute button. Why not use it?
    As for the biggest difference between R-Spec/Track and GT trims...wouldn't the lack of brembos and the use of all-season tires be bigger factors than lack of an LSD?

    actually mustangs are really cheap to mod and the aftermarket is huge. mustang v6 and gt pull like .95g stock and the gt500s pull 1.02g stock. plus my dad has full suspension and his pulls over 1.1g. I actually kind of like the g37 the most. not the fastest, but still a very quick car, nice interior etc

  • @supercooled
    @supercooled 12 лет назад

    What does the LSD do? The R-Spec is only available in the 2.0T in Canada but there is a wide difference between the premium and the R-Spec; the former having leather, heated seats, moonroof and nav. The only appreciable difference on the R-Spec for me, is the 19" and Brembos but everything else seems trivial or a case of ignorance is bliss.

  • @ladin425
    @ladin425 11 лет назад

    wouldn't the Mustang GT be a better long-term investment over the genesis? With the new 420hp 5.0 v8, I suspect the Mustang GT will be highly sought after for a long-time to come. I predict the genesis regardless of engine will fall off the map much like it has nearly done already.
    I don't mean to knock Hyunai, but the temptation and its lure diminishes when the price approaches $30k IMO

    Realistically both on a track or real road the BRZ may well be faster than the Genesis simply on handling alone. Anywhere the Genesis can't take advantage of its power advantage over the BRZ it's extra weight and inferior handling could very well result in it being slower. It's the same attribute that kept cars like the Mustang, 3-series, 370z and other heavier cars behind machines like the S2K, Boxter, RX-8, and Z3/Z4 on the track.

    So my 2011 Genesis Coupe 2.0T with 210 HP is a ricer car?

  • @FerninKer
    @FerninKer 12 лет назад

    I still fail to see a reason here. How does a 200hp mark make it a ricer? A light car with subdued styling and 100whp per liter, and good handling is about the polar opposite of what anyone would consider a ricer. If it's just in straight line speed then consider the BRZ has been shown to be barely half a second slower than the V-6 Genesis coupe. If you're going to call it a ricer then could you at least explain HOW it qualifies as such reasonably?

  • @bliglum
    @bliglum 12 лет назад

    You can't just go by the numbers developed on a perfectly flat skidpad.. Because in the real world (with it's uneven sections, broken pavement, bumps and whatnot) a solid rear axle will fall well short of a Fully independent setup.

    any car that canbreak traction is worthy of being called a spirts car. the miata has been long considered a drivers car. the gen i test drove once and it is nice but heavy... an echo can be a sports car ifyou firm up the suspension and more hp.. its like and tight.

  • @FerninKer
    @FerninKer 12 лет назад

    -_- Referring to something that is a legitimate driver's car is in itself offensive. Another thing to consider is that however 'weak' such cars may be, many of them still performed better than cars far more powerful. The S2K's dominance in it's time in particular comes to mind. Further more your pairing of lighter with weak, as if being light is a bad thing is puzzling to say the least. Also, not considering the Genesis a ricer if you're basing the term on location alone is odd as it's Korean...
