A6 C7 fuel tank flap issue with solution

- Car model is Audi A6 Saloon C7 from 2011.
*update june 2020* On a hot day I could not open that flap using the workaround.. I hear very faint noise behind the flap when unlocking.. same on cool days now - so I just forced it open with sharp moderate force...
SSUE: the car is unlocked but pressing on the fuel tank flap door won't open it.
FINDINGS: emergency release cable (access from the boot) do not work. when you unlock your car there is no click behind the flap door, so central locking do not release the flap. Nothing is wrong with locking mechanism (rust, dust, sticking) I suppose its a central locking or computer fault.
WORKAROUND: so you are at the garage outside your car. Lock it from the key. Unlock it. Wait 1 minute or more. Press unlock again - you suppose to hear a click behind the flap. Open it as usual.

I have found repeatedly prodding / pushing the fuel flap while repeatedly locking & unlocking via the fob eventually releases it. Going to have to get it repalced or fixed by garage though - too risky to leave like that and be strnaded!

This happened to me last week on VW Jetta. I took it to a panel beater. He was able to lever it open. There was rubber shredded on the release. Works well now . No damage done.

Maybe Audi wants us to bring the key out for safety reasons and press the unlock once again just to ensure you want your fuel tank unlocked? Makes sense if it's gonna work each time.

It could be broken if it closed or open. The trick to wait is the placebo. If you disassembly the lock you will see the rusty one and will understand way :)
I think in my case the rust is not an issue as otherwise I would not be getting consistent results from the workaround I found. but who knows...

B8 A4 actually got similar problem. But it does not need to wait. Just lock and unlock the car with the key fob and it will unlock instantly. I think this is a software bug. It is not an aging or rust problem as this starts pretty much from day one occasionally. In fact, the keyless entry is also buggy which is not working every single time. Like one out of 5, you need to take the fob out to unlock manually.

Another bulletproof solution is to rip the locking mechanism out completely and glue a few magnets to keep the door shut
I had to rip it off in the end.. no need for magnets thou, the hinge is quite springy already! just have to use a bank card to open it :)

So you have to hold the key fob in front of the gas cap? This worked for me weeks back and went to get gas last night and it’s now locked again . There is no pull realase on this a6
yes, same happened to me, the trick works only temporarily. the lock just got more rustier (corroded). The pull release wont help here...
