The Chromecast device I'm using looks like the Miracast device in this video. That's how old it is! But, it still works on my "dumb" TV so I have no intention of replacing either. I have never heard of Miracast before watching this video though, so I might just do a bit of RUclips research on it. :)

Chromecast is great if you're using an Android phone and only an Android phone. There are Google Chrome (for Windows) extensions that sometimes work and sometimes don't and let you cast from your PC to your Chromecast.
But, overall, Miracast is what ya want to use for your PC. That's what is built into it from Microsoft.
I bought a cheap one off Temu (hasn't arrived) that supposedly supports... well, here's the name "Wireless HDMI Display Adapter,Dongle HDMI WiFi Display,1080P WirelessAdattatore Fire Stick Tv Supporto Miracast IOS DLNA Google Chromecast"
So, we'll see how that works out lol. As long as I can get Miracast to work, I'll be good, because I already have a Chromecast. Everything else will just be a bonus... IF it works lol.

Explained it nicely. It would've been nice if you had explained why someone with a smart tv would need any of these devices in the first place - is it because their android version is outdated (lets say 4.1 etc) and hence their tv doesn't support apps that can connect your mobile and tv directly without using an extra device?

I use my hotspot to make Chromecast work. I thought I was one of the only 2 people who figured out how to make that work. Google says it doesn't work lol.
Just gotta type in the SSID and Password while connected to the Chromecast, then when it stores that, you should be able to turn on your hotspot and it will pick it up.

So that's why I can't cast Netflix from my iPhone's Netflix app to Fire TV (or even missing in the iOS Netflix cast button) because Fire TV only supports miracast? Am I right?

We're looking for a solution to replace the HDMI to our projector. The new projector supports Miracast. Is there a dongle we can have on the conference table that is as simple as plugging in the HDMI cable, or do they all require setup to connect to the display? Looking for a plug/play solution that won't cause headaches during meetings. :)

could you please explain more , I want to replace projectors with TVs in meeting rooms but I saw that you said that cause headaches !

    • @byerenny

I have a projector that supports Miracast. I also have a Samsung A52 and an older Samsung Tab A tablet. Both have a feature called " Smart View" when I place the projector on the Miracast setting and then turn on smart view with either phone or tablet, it finds the projector and connects in about 6 seconds then your phone/tablet screen is displayed. Easy peasy but many, many devices don't work in that fashion. Most are deliberately 'disabled' by manufacturers. Motorola is complete shit as one example. The newer Chromecast devices with Android TV interfaces are another unless you have them hooked together via internet. Google won't do nothing for you that they can't watch. I can't even get the Google Home app to load properly unless online. Which is needed to cast screen to their latest Chromecast devices.
The projector/phone set-up mine does requires no internet or wifi router middleman. It's a direct connection between the two devices solely. The way Miracast is meant to be.
They've butchered all this because they think someone is going to try and skip out on home wifi and just use mobile and cast it to the TV. Even though pay services like Netflix, etc. blocks the stream from letting that happen. Don't want Wifi at home, deal with watching on your small phone screen with mobile data is the prevailing thought from them. Try to keep you locked into paying for internet twice monthly.
I have a Vizio TV. Same story, no luck. If Samsung TV has Smart View it may work. They really need to leave the software be. It took awhile to develop and now they act like it's an unpopular feature that just needs brushed aside now. My damn home wifi is out and will be for at least two weeks. Yes, I want Miracast to just work like it should. I have movie files I can cast to my cheap projector which will suffice but casting to TV is a bust.

Great for casting particular apps that support it AND it has the 4K support...
But it won't work like Miracast when it comes to easily casting your PC screen. Plus a lot of these Miracast devices support more than just Mircast (like Firestick DLNA and Chromecast, too).
But, yeah, you'd need a 4K model to compete with Chromecast Ultra.

About the fatest device in this scenario, i have a notebook and i need to share my screen to use seeing a lot of videos.
What is the best Miracast or Chromecast? Do you know if Fire Stick Tv can also share and work well with this scene?
