    I was waiting for you to say to just apply the choke on the jaw. my instructor taught us a few months back how tucking your chin in doesn't protect you as much as you think and we practiced this finish and man is it effective. my mouth was in so much pain after

    • @goemon9378
      @goemon9378 7 лет назад +3

      yea, they can just physically bite your arm tho

    • @somefuckstolemynick
      @somefuckstolemynick 7 лет назад +19

      goemon9378, try it. It seems like a good way to get a dislocated jaw to me.

      John Lauland tucking the chin just takes it from a blood choke to a pain choke

    • @trytry9992
      @trytry9992 7 лет назад +1

      they can bite you the moment you put your arm next to their mouth before you applying any pressure.

    • @somefuckstolemynick
      @somefuckstolemynick 7 лет назад +24

      rodrigohk1992, again, all I can say is you should try this. If you bit my arm I wouldn't let go, I would choke as hard as I could. All the biter can give me is a bite mark, I can dislocate their jaw.
      People seem to have this idea that if you bite someone they just instantly give up. In a real fight with adrenalin numbing the pain, and with lives potentially on the line, I seriously doubt it will have this effect. At least against anyone who knows that a bite might be coming (most people who have trained sort of martial art, and probably quite a few other people as well), and have made up their mind not to let go.

    "Should you do this to a new guy?"
    Yes. Dropping the chin is not a valid defense and this should be pointed out early on. Letting them get away with it will give them a false sense of security about their defense.

  • @davidweiss4765
    @davidweiss4765 7 лет назад +3

    Thank you so much for mentioning the forehead pull. It's been an ongoing source of frustration for me whenever I would see a defender drop the chin and the attacker get nowhere. "All he has to do to expose the throat is pull the forehead back" I don't know how many times I've said.
    I learned firsthand that the chin crush definitely works--when it was used on me and I tapped. ;) After that I crushed a few chins to get the tap until the day it occurred to me to just pull back the forehead. It's the only technique I use now to defeat the dropped chin because I've never had it fail.

    Also a tip for the move at 4:45 instead of using your hand, use the inside of your elbow just like doing armbar or a rear naked choke, you will use more of your bigger back muscle instead of using your bicep when using your hand.

    Caterpillar is basically the method used by constricting snakes. Takes advantage of diaphragm activity in its prey. Except this is blood to the brain and snakes take advantage of air to the lungs. Sometimes both of course why not.

    No.5 I as a black belt in Judo I had this done to me by a guy who was a super strong green belt, I thought there was no way was he going to get it, he hasn't even got it on properly, but the pressure was so immense after some time I did start to feel my jaw dislocating & had to tap. So I can personally vouch for it, it does work.

  • @mjolnir9855
    @mjolnir9855 4 года назад

    Annoys me every time I see a tutorial teaching people self defense where they merely put the chin down thinking they can’t get choked - they can.
    Or when they put their fingers in to pull the elbow down - your fingers become part of the choke and you still get choke out.
    (The fingers inside the choking arm are merely to endure less pain while you do a real defense. Also it gives you grips to hold your attacker when throwing them or weighting them down)
    Awesome vid!!! Love this whole vid.

    My go to move that seems to work for me is putting the inside of my elbow on their forehead instead of putting my hand on their forehead to force them to look up. It feels much stronger to me than using the hand, I have super long skinny arms so generating strength in the hands is difficult, i find that if i kinda lock their forehead into my inner elbow i can use my whole body to straighten their neck and back rather than relying on arm strength.
    But i am curious, is there a downside to that approach? Maybe it doesn't work at higher levels for some reason it would be good to know.

    • @kyledavis2302

    I used number 5 in competition and it worked every time, they would tuck their chin thinking I couldn't choke them and tapped them out every time. In my opinion it is better than trying to worry about getting the arm under the jaw just be careful to carefully slide the metallion so that they don't grab it. What I would do before all of this is smother their mouth with my gi and make them very tired and hyperventilate then go for taking their back.

    Hi Stephan I am a fan of yours and I have learned new moves from you, but I dont think you should have tell ppl to do a choke over a the chin. That will not choke, the pressure will go into the persons neck and will end up cranking it (hurting it). If you had a hurt neck while grappling you know you dont feel it right away u feel it minutes later maybe even hours. Also some people are really tough and theres a lot of adrenaline involve. In a real life situation you do not want to burn all your energy squeezing a perso chin and then not much happen. Scratch last 1 for those who read this, besides that great job!

    • @derekbaker4942
      @derekbaker4942 3 года назад

      I just open my mouth when guys do this and they always stop. I find an open mouth releases the pressure on my jaw. If they break my face I find them another day. It is f-ing bjj in a gym. I don't need to have my nose or jaw broken before I can tap.

  • @thealldaypker
    @thealldaypker 7 лет назад

    Top tip: You don't even need to get under their chin. For self defence purposes what also works is just tightening the choke around their chin/teeth/nose area as hard as you can and it inflicts excruciating pain which will lead them to tap out or cry for their mothers. Try it out and see for yourself.

    • @thealldaypker
      @thealldaypker 7 лет назад

      and if they try to bite do it even harder and they will regret the decision to open their mouth very quickly. They will most likely surrender if it's a street fight or something
