So I've been training BJJ for 1 months and a half. Never done a sleeve choke before, watched this video last night, went to class today and submitted 2 guys who have been training for well over a year!¡ You my friend have a new subscriber!¡ 🙌🙏🔥
Did this during rolling, for some reason it's considered a "dirty move", however when I questioned why, no one was able to give me a straight answer apart from "it takes no skill". I started Jiu Jitsu because it was functional, avoiding a move because it's not fancy or honourable seems silly if effective, which this is.
Thanks you so much such comprehensive video! This is another example of simplicity when explaining but still very detailed. Well done! I just got into BJJ, I'm on my 4th lesson, but I'm sure your videos combined with my determination and respect for the art and teammates will accelerate my learning. I've no words to express my gratitude!
Easily my favorite choke for when I just want to end the match fast and dirty. I usually go with the more humane vascular choke instead of the fist on the larynx, but I have had to resort to this one once or twice. I've been put to sleep with it and put others to sleep too. Great choke wonderfully taught. Thanks for the pointers. I'm going to work on cleaning it up tonight.
Interesting. This is the first time I've actually seen the sleeve choke demonstrated outside of a tournament. In tournaments I never had a good view so had no idea how the choke was being applied. I actually thought before this video that you used your sleeve as a garotte, somehow wrapping the sleeve around the opponent's throat, strangling them with it. Now I see you're just using your sleeve for leverage, and actually choking them with your fist. Thanks for clearing that up!
Thank you Stephan! The head part is really important. Before I did not (cite) "keep his vision turned away" and sode guruma jime sometimes worked sometimes not. Now it mostly works because for the opponent is usually to late to defend. Once again thanks for that.
I was trying to setup the ezekiel in a competition last weekend. The guy was concentrating on sweeping me from half guard. I got it but couldn't get my hands all the way in. Then his instructor started calling watch for the ezekiel, he is going for the ezekiel. I was like dafaq. How would I set it up if a third person keeps reminding him that? Not cool! I lost the match coz of points but brought bronze. :(
Thanks So much for this Video! I've successfully used this technique while rolling several times while rolling. As this new guy at the gym it has taken opponents by surprise. I was told that putting the fist in the throat is a no-go in competition though. Thanks Again!!
This is my #1 choke that I catch so many people with. Even if someone knows you like to do it and they keep their chin down to prevent you from getting under it, you can grind your knuckles (while making a fist) into the nerve bundle directly underneath their jawbone to get them to lift their head. I especially like doing it in someones guard as shown in the video. As they go to sweep you they focus on completing the sweep instead of defending the choke and then it's too late for them.
Hey Stephan , i love your vids! i'll try this choke from the half guard. one of you next vids could teach quickly different kinds of Hadaka Jime and if they attack the windpipe or the charotids, and if they can include any kind of necklock, if you wish.
thats true! I'm a white belt. dont have alot of experience haha. I'm the guy who gets tapped constantly in the gym. had to stop sadly due to school but will be back once schools over I like the no gi Ezekiel because on people who dont have alot of experience its so easy to get. so so easy. Believe it or not i actually got it once from bottom of mount!! Of course it was on someone with even less experience then me haha.. But i agree. You get rolled too easy and itll be only finished from closed guard if you have it super deep i find. its not a move id like to make my go to move because it seems very easy to block once ya see it. and it doesnt seem to be the best for self defense as well
I've been working on this for a few rolls but haven't landed it. My teacher has taught us all to protect our necks so well that it's hard to land this type of choke. Is there a way to get this when the left hand is protecting the neck or should I just go for something else? I try and bait with an Americana however to no avail. I know that I'm not going to land every submission every time, I was just curious if there is a sneaky way to get that left hand block out of the way. Thanks. Kris.
was told the same bc it's a trachea smasher, not bc it takes no skill. We still use it but we just don't crank it too hard . I have a few subs using this from half guard and mount
Sort of. The guy on top is halfway to passing to kesa gatame (he just has to bring the knee through). It feels like you should be able to get the back from the bottom but it's harder than it seems.
this move could lead your opponent to Lose consciousness for a few seconds :D in ym bjj training class i did this move twice and twice they never tapped but went unconscious for a few seconds
Hilarious. It's a perfectly fine choke that works well if you practice it. Tell them to get better - they shouldn't be letting you get your arm underneath their head.
For people wanting to look more into this move such as Judo tips and tricks. The japanese name is Sode guruma jime

Kesting, you've helped my game a thousand fold.
I like its practicality and how easy (lesser steps taken) it is to execute. Thanks again, Stephan! You da man! 👊👍💪

Definitely the most versatile frontal choke

Man, I love this choke, learned couple weeks ago and already used a lot of times.. :D
As old as this choke may seem, it is extremely effective when you get sneaky with it.

Thank you. I was telegraphing my choke and now will work on turning his head.

using the head to drive the choke? awesome detail!!! thanks Steve!
i love the tip at the end about pushing the hand in with your head. always great tips mr kesting. cheers and thanks again sir.
Ass kisser.
Im a white belt noob (Japanese JuJitsu) and after seeing this video I tried it... AND IT WORKED!!
awesome video. just taught my 9 year old this choke from watching this.

i love this choke. really gotta watch out for getting caught in the armbar when youre applying from inside the guard though! awesome video as always!

Same here! Oh, and you can use it in comps 👍
One of my fav choke, have caught few ppl in their guard with it, also sneaky when on side control going to mount.
why have i never seen this technique before? seems so good!
I like the look of this choke. I can't wait to drill it and get it down pat!
Love your video's Stephan very easy to follow along
Stephan is seems to be such a nice guy! Keepin it real
It doesn't have to be on the trachea. If you rotate the head, your pressure goes on the carotid, which makes it a blood choke.

very nice video and information, thanks a lot!
i already knew this move... but nice video as always stephan !
Great video!
Awesome tips
I'm a newbie and this is choke that I have got my first submissions with.
Nice! I've been doing it for 6 months now, absolutely love it. I think my first choke was a rear naked choke
you should do a video on tips on the sleeve choke with no GI :)
thats true! I'm a white belt.

mate dont worry about being tapped you learn from that choke is amazing though one to keep up your sleeve for sure man
Pretty cool, pretty good to know stuff right there...
My 6 year old just figured this out on his own and used it to tap out a kid in practice today. 🤙🏻
excellent lol..love the last one
easy and most effective !!
I'm looking for tips for when I'm in full guard and think I might try this
very good thank you for sharing
Modified ezeikl choke aint it. Really enjoy stephans videos though. Top job.
Great Stuff! Thanks for sharing!
Ji steohan, I love the ezekial choke and find it a very high percentage move for me. Do you have any tips for using it or a variation no-gi? Thanks!
great one
@stephanking this is a very high % move that ive adapted to my game. Is there a defense or counter for this move? Thanks for all of your expertise.

THANKS!!!!
so, this is a blood choke or an air choke? the fist is pushing down on the trachea?
very nice
"I'm gonna use it, and now you can use it too" over and out -Stephen Kesting
which way do you sag when you're in side control?
Question - Any danger of giving up your back at 2:20?
how do you counter it in the close guard?
is it considered illegal grabing your sleeve from iniside even if its your own?
Sort of. The guy on top is halfway to passing to kesa gatame (he just has to bring the knee through). It feels like you should be able to get the back from the bottom but it's harder than it seems.
Dope
You and Richie look so young!🤣
Ouch
He should give Richie his black belt, hell he deserves it just from taking punishment so that many of us can learn tiny details.
No because the grinding elbow guard pass rarely works
1:02 that's what she said
Radostin Panaiotov underrated comment
Is this bad form to use it during light rolling in class? I'm new and I've never used a trachea pressure submission and it seems like a dick move.
this move could lead your opponent to Lose consciousness for a few seconds :D in ym bjj training class i did this move twice and twice they never tapped but went unconscious for a few seconds
i did that to my partner and he didnt tap fast so he went out for a few seconds :/
thanks man :)
1:05 that's what she said 😎
I live thousands of kilometers from you but I want to be your student
grabbing inside your own sleeve is okay, grabbing inside your opponents is not.
Hilarious. It's a perfectly fine choke that works well if you practice it. Tell them to get better - they shouldn't be letting you get your arm underneath their head.
Found it hahaha
so...digging elbows into the opponents knees to pass guard is no good, but driving a fist into your opponents throat is legit? mmk..
