I love your mix of a tad of humor and technique. I’m a visual learner and you have helped me with a lot of sticky little problems ❤️
Awesome! Thank you!
Awesome. Thank you ❤️
I just signed up, congratulations, it's a beautiful work
I love it Paul. Its my favorite color
Sir, you are a good teacher but I am not good student .i had drawn this for seven time but I can't draw this yet.😭 Could you tell me how to train for beginner?🙏 I think I have to train my hand .😥and thank you for this video☺️
Greetings, Paul! I can’t express enough how much joy and inspiration your lively teachings provide. I’ve learned more watercoloring tips from you than anyone else. I now watch your videos more than the news - you have saved me! Thank you from Dave in Florida.
Totally agree my painting has much improved thanks to Pauls videos , admire his style immensely .
Wow, thank you Dave - so pleased to help! - keep in touch. Do you know my sister? - she lives in Florida!
Margaret Butcher. As always a great tutorial. Such fun to watch but, oh dear, the splatter goes everywhere usually up my walls
@@ArtbyPaulClark Is she in The Villages??
Where in Florida, I’m in Orlando
Another great painting Paul which I’ve saved in my RUclips folder to do at a later date. Well you asked for suggestions so I’d love a tutorial on a french cafe street scene. Looked through archive and can’t see one. 😊
Great suggestion! - I've done a few in my time but not as a tutorial - noted!!!
I 2nd that motion 💯🎨
Amazing tutorial Paul. You're such an inspiring tutor and there is so much to learn in all your videos. I really love this one and I really want to thank you for your generosity in providing us with downloadable drawings. Without them I just wouldn't be able to tackle a lot of the work you show us so it is really important and a kindness that is rarely, if ever, shown by other tutors.
He is very generous. Full tutorials and drawings. So thankful.
Happy to hear that!
Paul you do not need this white colour adding it is already perfect. sorry this is my opinion. Keep it natural. The non watercolour media makes itartificial, believe me
Beautiful Paul. Could we have a sunrise /sunset tutorial please ?
Thank you for another fabulous tutorial! I appreciate your humor and how easily you explain your processes. Hope you bought all your necessaries before your ❄ 😉
Thank you so much!
@@ArtbyPaulClark I picked up your book on Kindle. It seems to be out of stock everywhere! Good for you 👍
Wow this is stunning! I love watching you work your magic. I love lavender fields and nearly squealed with excitement when this popped up and it didn't disappoint. I can't thank you enough for these tutorials.
Thank you so much Jill!
Greetings from snowy Finland! Great video as always. Me and my wife are already big fans.
Could you perhaps make a tutorial about how to paint snowy landscapes? (We have about 50 cm of the white stuff!)
Thanks very much - I have several snow scene videos: link below to my channel: ruclips.net/channel/UCC2uMZ7qWrsCUorYdZbi8OA
Good morning, from Texas! I’ve never really tried watercolor, but you’ve inspired me to give it a go!
You should Lou!!
I must have a go at this painting, it is just the sort of art my wife would have hanging in the bedroom reminding her of the summer months to come. Thanks for the in depth knowledge you share with the world, a true inspiration to us all.
Thank you Kindly Steve!
@@ArtbyPaulClark Hi Paul, I am a total novice to watercolour painting and have been painting trees, people and the odd landscape to varying degrees of success. I was a technical engineer throughout my working life so everything was controlled to the thousandth of an inch and trying to let go of that has become somewhat a hindrance (I think I’m trying to be too precise). Again your tutorials are explained very, very well. Thanks
I agree!!!
Beautiful, I’m looking forward to spring here inNorth Carolina when the lavender fields are in bloom.
Hey! Fellow NC!!
Can't wait! - Thanks Christine from NC!!!
I was just scanning my RUclips analytics to see what other channels my viewers are into and stumbled on yours. Lovely!! This is great. Your intro made me laugh. Love the lavender field. Excellent stuff!
Thank you so much Jenna!! - Love your channel too!
Love both of your channels!!! ❤I’m improving so much watching both of you. Would love to watch a live video or collaboration with you both painting side by side.
I'm in to drawing historical buildings nowadays. How about a tutorial on Colosseum, Hagia Sophia or Tower Bridge etc.?
Good suggestion!
@@ArtbyPaulClark Hagia Sophia is my vote!
Hi Paul, 😂🤣😂🤣...for a minute there I thought I had clicked on the wrong link....penguins in Sussex!!! .😲.....lol.... did you know....here Up North we have polar bears 😉.....
Seriously though... this is beautiful and has inspired me to compose a lavender field in Norfolk...with a little cottage I think ☺️.... all the best to you and yours Paul. 🌷🦋 Thank you 🙏🏼
Thanks for that Chazz - much appreciated and now those penguins are trying to get into my studio!!!
Chuckling and giggling, you make me laugh, so happy to see you again.
Cheers Karen!
Funny, as always. I am afraid I have a bit of US Southern Boy in me; those two thumbs-down marks make me want to invite them to Nashville for a good ol' Tar and Feathering! Actually, I don't even know what the hell that is exactly. I think you have a couple of jealous, angry former loves out there; happens to me all the time.
That's hilarious Joseph - ever thought of writing comedy novels?
Oh man!!!!! Absolutely smashing tutorial!!! Thanks for getting out of your warm blanket to shoot this tutorial for us. I am definitely going to try this!!!
Go for it Ritu!
Love the whole process of making this painting Sir 🙏
Please 🙏 make a painting on BANARAS GHAT OF INDIA.
Thanks and great suggestion 👍
Simply stunning painting, really enjoyed watching this one, Thank You for the inspiration you provide:
My pleasure 😊
love this piece. i love lavender i guess. QUESTION: What does 50-50 mix really mean? if you start with paste from the tube, then you add water, then you add the watery mixt to the palette how watery is it? (yeah, im the annoying student in the back that just doesnt get it some times :P ) maybe you have a video explaining it maybe? thanks
Love it with me and I'll do it in a video!
This is really lovely Paul. I will add it to the ones I want to try. Makes me think of summer, can't wait.
Please do!
Thank you, muchas Gracias, muito abrigado, arigato gozaimas. There are no words to thank you for sharing your art and expertise. Desde Melbourne Australia
Thank you very much!
Soo good. The use of pastel has been a revelation for me. Thanks Paul.
You're very welcome
This is lovely! Lavender fields are difficult to find in Maryland US. I can almost smell lavender in the air. Thanks for sharing your instruction and tips in watercolor painting .
You are so welcome!
Excelente!!! Gracias, saludos desde San Luis Potosí, México
Gracias too!!!! Victor from San Luis Potosí!
Why scrape instead of white gouache?
Hello I bought your book and it was a huge help! I think I'm confident enough to try this tutorial thanks to you
Hope you enjoy it! - and thanks for buying my book too!
Lol, love your humor. Excited to try this one. I tried a lavender field when I first started my art adventure about 16 months ago,,, it didn’t go well. Your video instructions give me hope that I will succeed with this one. Thank you!
You can do it!
So beautiful!
I know the sky is not the focus of this painting, but I still wanted to ask you. I never seem to get a grip on my skies. I use a big flat brush with goat hairs to wet the surface, and I noticed that you always use a mop. Could that be the trick? Maybe a mop makes the wetting more even?
Hi Lars - your big flat should be fine. Just make sure you soak the entire area and let it soak in for a few mins - with no surface water - then in you go!!!
@@ArtbyPaulClark thank you!
This channel is a dream to me .. thank you so much for these beautiful videos
Glad you like them!
What will Paul drink painting lavender? Let's watch the video to discover it :) P.S. - my suggested future subject: food. Some local food that you love :)
Great suggestion! - and noted!
Fantastic! Beautiful! Thank you! I especially like the tip about changing the color of the shadows on the lavender! Yes, that is just a dusting of snow here in Colorado! 15’F here this morning! I would move back to sunny So. Cal. In a hot second but need to stay here...so I am learning to paint!! Thank you for helping!💕
Thank you so much Donna!
This is gorgeous Paul - I can smell the lavender. It looks like one I could make a fairly good attempt at to. Thanks again and keep warm! It's bitterly cold here in Pembrokeshire but no snow.
Thanks Rowena - still cold here too!!!
Going back to rewatch videos and saw that I had not watched this one yet. How did I miss it?!?! 🤷🏻♀️ I’m gonna try combining this with the Van Gogh tutorial (fingers crossed). I think it’ll look lovely together. Enjoy your trip and I look forward to seeing video of it when you get back.
Hello from Kelowna, BC, Canada, Paul. Love your videos and that one was absolutely brilliant. I’m going to try one with this colors. Thanks for ALL of your videos 🙏🏻👍🏼
This is Fantastic beautiful landscape Paul !!! I would like to Thank You !!! From Hungary.
I love your tutorials. Please look up Crystal Cove southern California. Beach cottages built during the 1930's. Currently being restored by the state of California. A delightful gem from a long time ago. Seaside mini beach town. Original restaurant and bar on site. I can send you photos or you can google. I intend to paint this myself. But I would love to see you do this as well. I will be photographing this next Monday. Your the best.
I enjoy your tutorials so much. Learning, and at the same time having a laugh. What could be better!
Great to hear!
Thanks Paul. Great tutorial as always. I seem to be struggling with decent watercolour paper. My wife works for Daler Rowney and she is able to get some materials at a reduced rate but when painting skies the water is cockling the paper really badly and spoling the effects. What would you recommend?
너무멋져요~♡
아름다운그림 알려주셔서 너무 감사합니다~
I am new to watercolor and have learned so much from the two tutorials I've just watched, this one (I love lavender fields) and the one on perceptive. Thank you for the time and effort it takes to put these together.
You are so welcome!
Maybe my favourite yet Paul, itching to have a go, thank you for such a warm sunny subject on a cold day.
Glad you enjoyed it
Grazie Poul, sei un gran maestro, generoso, bravo e simpaticissimo.
Thank's for tour art, a vert Great theacher, every time i learn and laught so much for your simphaty. Sorry for my english
Thank you! I love how you explain each step; it gives me a lot of confidence to give it a try!
Lovely Paul
I will definitely try the Lavender field
Please do!
You are the best painting teacher. I love the way you paint!

Oh my heart❤️ This is so beautiful!!! Thankyou! Stay warm! We are expecting ice and power outages today. 😪
Good luck Shirley!!
Lololol!! I just love your humor😂And as always, a lovely video. Love your work, it helps me alot 😀🦋
Hello and good afternoon. I just want you to know I love your tutorials and your sense of humor. As any good artist, you make it look so easy.. Since I am from the states I love your European scenes.I am waiting for your book to arrive and am looking forward to learning as much as possible.
.
You are amazing! I really enjoy watching your video tutorial. It makes me love watercolour more and more every day. Thank you for your generosity in sharing your knowledge and skill to the world. You make the painting more fun and easy. I just started learning watercolor a month ago. I learn a lot from you, you really inspire me to continue watercolor drawing. I love it.
I really enjoyed my first loose attempt at this.. I'll have another crack at this scene soon hopefully.. very nice..
Thank you so much, I had fun watching the video with lavender flowers
You are so welcome!
@@ArtbyPaulClark I draw with pencils from koh-I-noor and also HB pencils, thank you very much for the help in drawing
I painted the lavender flowers, sent to the "anyone can paint" group and thank you for learning how to paint with better art. How do I send you the painting I drew and painted, to paint I am a champion, to paint, need to know the colors better in names, thank you very much
Magnifique aquarelle de la Provence; mon coin préféré en France...cela me fait rêver 😍...comme si j'y étais ! Merci beaucoup pour ce partage et bonne continuation.
Thank so much. Absolutely beautiful and helping us learn to paint. Oh does starching the paper tare the paper?
Hello Paul, I love your tutorials, Thank you so much for them! I was wondering if you would paint an old pirate ship?
Great suggestion! - noted!
no se mucho ingles...PERO ...se entiende todo pues nos transmite ARTE...GRACIAS PAUL
No sé mucho español pero ¡gracias por comentar!
Loved watching this. I went out and bought a few faber castell watercolor pencils for the white touches. Can’t wait to try.
Brilliant tutorial. After a few attempts I’ve realised that maybe my patience isn’t cut out of watercolours ha ha
One of your most beautiful paintings on the channel so far, and that is saying something! Thanks again Paul!!
Thank you so much 😀
I just finished this watercolor for my wife for Mother's Day. Of course it was not as nice as yours but, it was a great learning experience and tons of fun. Thank you for the lesson. You have been extremely helpful. Thank you so much for your time and videos. Cheers!
My pleasure 😊
Good afternoon from a small town in the west of Russia. Paul, you explain everything so easily... If only I had such a teacher in an art school when I was a child! And now I work at an art school myself. And we really need such a fun and very talented teacher))) Our students would like you very much! Thanks for your tutorials 🎨🖌️👍
Wow, thanks Anna - very kind!
Absolutely perfect! Is there an alternative to the white pastel?
Thanks Janine - yes you could use white gouache or any opaque paint.
@@ArtbyPaulClark right! Thank you 😊
Beautiful painting as always! I look forward to each one! As far as my painting suggestions, I would love to see how you paint an old stone country bridge with a large tree along the banks, or an English flower garden and cottage. Either one would be lovely!!
By the way, how do you get your splats to stay so vibrant? No matter how concentrated my paint mix is, my splats always seem to just fade into the background and I end up needing several layers of splatting.
Thanks again for a wonderfully inspiring video!!
Hi Lisa - not really sure? - as you say it needs to be quite concentrated.
Thank you so much for this lovely tutorial You are an outstanding artist and I learn so much from you. Love every one of your excellent videos. Keep warm and healthy .Love from South Africa.
Thanks Veronica!
Oh I love this tutorial! Thank you so much. I have a fabulous picture of a lavender field taken in France - where I come from - by my brother who is a super talented photographer. I made such a mess from my two first attempts. So, your tutorial is definitely going to help me. Great! 😊
Great to hear Emma.... and happy to help!
Beautiful lavender field! I have to try this one. Thanks for sharing your watercolor wisdom. May I suggest painting sunflowers or a sunny landscape? Greetings from (a warm summer in) Chile.
Great idea Lily - thanks!
My happy day, Wednesday when Paul demonstrates. So excited to try. Thank you Paul you are awesome....and funny 😄
Thanks as ever Misty!!
"a little hedgy type thing" and I laugh out loud - I need to be less serious about the details of painting and enjoy more - thank you.
There you go, enjoying your hot chocolate beverage :-). I was about to say that I missed that part while the paper is getting dried :-)
Lol! - needed it!
Thank you Paul for the great lesson on painting lavender fields.🙏👏👩🎨🎨 perfect tutorial to prepare me for Margots challenge this week on your facebook group page. 👩🎨👨🎨🖼🚶♀️🎶❤
Glad it was helpful!
I've really enjoyed watching your Lavender field video and learned so much. After a few unsuccessful attempts to paint a lavender field,I' ll try again.Thank you for the inspiration you provide us.Learning from a very professional watercolor artist ,as you ,a great chance....I also thank you for providing us with your downloadable drawings , for your time and your perfect videos....
delighted to help - thanks very much!
Thoroughly enjoyed this thank you Paul. I’d love to know how you don’t get covered in splatter though. I’m somewhat purple and spotted after that lol
I’d love to see a nice castle type landscape if you are thinking of doing any soon. I’ve so many castle photos but not sure how to approach it
Great suggestion Laura - on the list! - thanks and I do get splattered sometimes!
Loved your opening...funny...another great tutorial...always learning from you...beautiful painting...a thought as you asked..a Venice canal with or without a bridge and with buildings would be great sometime. Whatever the mood strikes..
Thanks so much 😊 Venice noted!
You looked a little bit cold 🥶 there Mr Clark. That’s typical weather for western New York where I live. Snow ⛄️ and icicles abound. Thanks for sharing your summery lavender painting 🧑🎨. Stay warm and have another hot chocolate, maybe with a shot of Bailey’s ☺️
Bailey's it is!!! - cheers Nancy!
Just beautiful, really! Love you work,Mr. Paul sir!
Thank you again for your inspiration.. i've had two attempts at this now, second is better (I feel) than the first, so hopefully am heading in the right directon. You did say if you have any suggestions for future paintings.....here is mine... I would LOVE to be able to attempt a 'loose coo' - of the Highland variety, of course! Any chance?? Kind regards and again, Happy New Year to you and Margot x
Wonderful! - thanks Julie and suggestion noted!
Hello my Dear Paul.... really lovely lavanda scene. ... and the best your hot chocolate. Thanks again for sharing your technique. I LOVE IT.
Thank you! Cheers Karola!
Thank you so much for this!! I've been to a tulip farm here and tried several times to paint what I saw (without success). Seeing and hearing your lavender row instructions is such a big help! Thank you for your generosity in showing us all. It is lovely AS IS * White included. 🙂
You are so welcome! ... many thanks Debbie!

Muy chulo el tutorial, hice la acuarela me costó mucho trabajo pero quedó algo decente, contenta pues soy principiante aunque con tus magníficas explicaciones voy avanzando. Gracias
Gracias too Val
I absolutely love your channel and your paintings, congratulations!! Regards from Brazil ☺️☺️
Thank you so much Juliana from Brazil! 😀
Good afternoon from sun shining Greece! hahaha ...sorry. Amazing tutorial Paul. Your videos inspired me!!! I 'll try to paint grass with your splattering technique!!
Yes Ok - I'm jealous!!! - still freezing here!
Wonderful as usual !!!!Very very cold in good old Germany too be the way.Good to See some colours in the painting😁👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you so much 😀
You forgot the leaf cutter ants, pocket gophers, wild boar - oh shit that's my yard. Sorry. Cool painting.
I'm having a bad pest day - painting will be more fun.
Lol! - love that, cheers!
LOL.. I feel you. Here in Oklahoma USA we have been iced since Sunday and are expecting -20F wind chill this coming Sunday with maybe a foot or more of snow right after... and this isn't typical here either. Coldest weather in decades. Everything is frozen. Thanks for bright flowers.. the last thing I want to paint when I'm freezing is snow.
Lol!!! -20 sounds horrific! - keep warm!
Dear Paul! Gosh, this gave me more cold sweat and (almost) nervous breakdowns than I care to admit. It looks so simple and innocent, but somehow I made more mistakes than ever before. But I also worked through them and learned a lot! As an example: phtalo turquoise and opera rose mix a wonderful lavender purple. All my other reds and blues, really don't. Saunders & Waterford paper really benefits from letting the water sink into it before painting (also makes the colour control way easier - first attempt had no visible space between the purple whatsoever). Scratching with a scalpel? Looks easy, needs practise! And so on and so forth. Now, this wasn't my first Paul Clarke Tutorial, I think I followed 8 of yours previously, but none had me as frustrated and doubting myself, like this one. However, thank you Paul, for challenging us! For making us want to improve! For your humour and kind heart! And all of your wonderful tutorials.
Ps: if I could add: I struggle with your tiny details and added on bits. I add details and it looks cartooney. I added stems to the lavender and they made no sense. Do the details and knowledge, what to add when, come with time?
Hey Cordee - great info and thanks for the comment!
Ha ha ha!! Love the opening!!! :) So we currently have a bit more than 2 inches of snow and -10 outside :) Finally we are having The Winter this year :) Thank you for the perspective tip, and by the way the Drawing section in your book is really helpful as well. I would like to ask about painting an object where the light is in front of the observer but completely behind the object. I've heard this is the most difficult to paint in terms of shading. Obviously the object won't be just black because the light gets reflected and is present on the side of the object we are looking at. Could we try a night scene with the moon behind a building maybe? Doesn't have to be in black ;) Greetings from the snowy Warsaw, PL :)
Many thanks Kasia and suggestion noted!!!
If you've not already done it, could you address how to prepare your palette/paints for a picture...I find that I often run out of a color and then, when I need more of the same color, I have to scramble to get it. How much paint do you put in a 'well' of the palette? I realize sometimes you want very wet washes and other times you want a thicker paint. I'm having problems 'setting up' my paints, not necessarily MIXING the colors, but getting the consistency, I guess, to something that will last me throughout the painting. I guess just a good tutorial on how to 'manage' the palette. THANKS!! This is so exasperating and you are SUCH a good (and entertaining!!) instructor. Thanks in adance! West Virginia, USA
Thanks David for the suggestion - I'll look into it!
I do sympathize with your unusually cold and snowy day Paul, but I must admit it’s hard to feel too, too sorry when it’s minus 27 centigrade here in western Canada with a wind chill of minus forty-something. We have to add a little ‘something’ to our hot chocolate just to keep thawed out! Haha. Thank you again for one more beautiful teaching demonstration. Keep warm and safe. Looking forward to all your wonderful videos. Going to check out the perspective one now. Still checking out your website for your book. Marlene from Calgary...brrrrrrrrrrrr!
Wow minus 27 centigrade!!! - now that's cold! good luck with the perspective!!
I enjoy your lessons and try them….. I am a beginner …. Rather late though…. Am 65 years…and have some questions….. my paper dries fast….. how to keep it wet through the painting…. I tried spraying again but it causes smudges n running colour….. plz suggest for me..
Hi there - Climate can make a huge difference but have you tried wetting the paper on both sides. 100% cotton paper will also stay wet longer.
Two inches of snow where I live can also be Armageddon! Cannibalism soon follows! 😂. Can't wait to give this one a go! Your painting was so good I could smell the Lavender (and the "hedgy" and "stemmy" things too😂) . I always learn a lot from your tutorials... Laughter and enjoyment included. You have a way of taking the stress and worry out of the process. Thanks for inspiring and most of all..... teaching! Cheerio Sir! And tip a pint for me🍻😁
Always welcome mate - keep in touch!!! ... now for a beer!
Paul - thank you so much for your guidance - I love your work and your videos! If I was attempting to sign my first watercolor, A Lavender Filed, and do not intend to paint over it - should I go with a White Writing Gel Pen or a Signo Uniball pen as shown in your videos - Thank you!
Wonderful! - I think either will work fine!
I thought you will paint penguins. Would've been more fitting. 🐧🐧🐧😂
(Writing this comment while the outside temperature is -10 Celsius. 🥶)
Wow Moma - keep warm!
Hi Dear Paul, I would love if you could teach us how to paint beautiful city scenes just like you have hanging in the wall behind you, it looks like paris or europe!❤️ thanks for create this vídeos❤️❤️❤️ this painting was really relaxing 🙏🏻❤️
Great suggestion! ... noted!
A beautiful landscape...I will definitely try this. Your techniques and style are amazing. Thank you 🙏
Thanks so much 😊
Nothing relaxes me more, than watching you paint 😊 💕
I have the most expensive Schmincke and Daniel Smith watercolours but just can't seem to start. Afraid I think. 🤔
Just go for it - the worst that can happen is you've lost a sheet of paper and a little paint - but you would have learned something along the way!
Hi Paul, that wa such a pleasure to watch. You give such clear instructions, especially about colour mixing, which I struggle with. Love it! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Absolutely loved it, Paul. It reminded me of my many journeys to Aix-en-Provençe in my youth. I can almost smell the lovely scent of lavender. Will definitely give it a go. Btw, I'm still a novice pertaining to watercolour, so there are still some subjects I struggle with. A realistic rendering of a sky with clouds (in various weather conditions) is one of them. Also, painting long and short fur is difficult to me. Would you mind doing tutorials on these themes, perhaps? Best regards from Anna in Denmark.
Glad you enjoyed it Anna - Have you seen my skies video?: ruclips.net/video/ZDnlFOgd6Fk/видео.html
I followed the picture while watching your RUclips. It's so fun.Thank you for the good explanation
Happy to hear that!
Beautiful, Paul. How about considering a demo with sunflowers? They're very popular here in the states. Thanks for your wonderful works!
Great idea! - just come back from Provence so inspired with sunflowers!!!!
