    You taught a lesson and you didn't know it. You were satisfied with the drawing you did. You then looked at the audience as though you were going to be judged. You like what you did. THIS IS CRITICAL TO BE A HAPPY ARTIST! Screw everybody else. I must learn to like my own work and drop the critical internal narrative. Thankyou!

    You could refill the cartridge using a blunt inking syringe. Dissemble the pen, removing the cartridge, put a couple of ml of your chosen ink into the syringe, then inject this into the cartridge through the open end. Reinsert the cartridge then put the pen back together.
    This is a trick used by fountain pen fans.

      That's what I do but I just go to the pharmacy and buy a pack of insulin syringes cause it's way cheaper.

      Can you use regular fountain pen ink?

    • @vitriolicAmaranth
      @vitriolicAmaranth 4 года назад +4

      @@harryleasure2077 Brush pens are apparently slightly more prone to clogging than regular fountain pens, but in general, any dye-based ink (most fountain pen inks, especially non-waterproof ones or noodler's, which use a different technique for waterfastness) should be fine. A lot of people report good results with Platinum Carbon Black in the similar Kuretake no 8 and no 13 synthetic brush pens (which are compatible with the Platinum fountain pen converter, though they normally also use disposable cartridges), including this channel I'm pretty sure.

    This pen is a game changer for me... I love it... I actually started with Indian ink and paintbrushes, but stopped because of the inconvenience... then I drew with fine liners... then with various fountain pens... then to dip pens... this feels like coming home for me because its how I started.

    I've used these as an illustrator for many years. I'd refill the cartridges with a syringe or eyedropper using laquer-free rapidograph ink or pelikan ink. Thicker inks like Winsor Newton's will clog it up though. Soaking the parts in mineral spirits briefly does a good job at cleaning it.

      Do you just unscrew them and fill up? How’s this done? I don’t own this pen yet, but came here to see if they were refillable with in over constantly more purchasing cartridges before purchasing one.

    • @julldufour
      @julldufour 2 года назад

      @@janetcolornice Sure, it will work, but fountain pen ink isn't waterproof. For inking drawings, that ain't the best. Some of them are, but I've never tried them with the Pentel brush.

    • @julldufour
      @julldufour 2 года назад

      @@BeachMum Indeed, you choose your favorite ink and just keep filling it up. You can't close them back of course, once the ball is fallen in there there's no going back. I'd use a cheap plastic syringe, or an eyedropper above my kitchen sink. It isn't difficult.

    What I love about this pen are the sometimes random nature of the strokes. It forces me to not focus too much on my perception of "perfection," to work around them.
    Of course, I'll probably lose this spontaneity when I get better at handling it.

    You can fit the Platinum converter in it, if you remove the metal ring (same as for the Kuretake brush pen). Be warned, it is a very snug fit so you need to give it a good push and twist. Once it is in, you might want to put some silicon grease on the section threads, in order to make it easier to screw on the barrel.

      Paris D Black Ah. I keep seeing so many different suggestions. Some say India Ink is good, some don't. Some say it's specifically the India Ink with shellac that causes problems, but someone else said as long as you keep the pen's lid on, it's fine. You'd think, with as popular as this pen is, there'd be a more definite answer.
      Thanks for the help. I'll check out some fountain pen ink. I just really don't wanna pay the prices for the actual refills givin the amount I plan to use it.

    Hey Teoh, nice video :) I would like to ask you something: have you experienced a problem with this pocket brush that causes the ink to flow a bit too much? I have had my pen for about four years and lately I am noticing that the brush is over loaded with ink, so, when I make a stroke on the paper, it's impossible to do a thin line unless I do a bunch of preliminary marks somewhere else. There is so much ink in the bristle sometimes that it almost creates a little drop of liquid!

    • @teohyc
      @teohyc  8 лет назад +2

      I actually have the opposite experience. I always find my brush too dry. It could be the way you store your pen. If you can store it sideways, perhaps the ink won't rush to the tip that much. I always store this brush pen with tip downwards because mine is too dry.

      Should last more pages. But seriously depends on how much ink you are using, and the size of your page. If use a lot of ink, obviously the ink will be used up fast. Get a blunt needle to refill with your own ink. I recommend De Atramentis Archive, or Sailor KiwaGuro

    Okay, so I'm interested in buying a brush pen. Is the pilot pen refillable/replaceable ink cartridge? And do these pens work with copics? Will it smear? Any information would be great! I'd like to know price as well..

      Which pilot pen? The Pilot Pocket Brush Pen?
      www.parkablogs.com/picture/review-pilot-pocket-brush-pen
      Those smear quite easily and take a while to dry.

    How do you control the flow of the ink with this one¿ Because with the standard Pentel Brush you can press the soft body of the brush pen for ink to flow to the tip¿ How do you do with this one¿ Thanks.

      There's no way to force ink out. To get more ink, you have to go slow.
