Dude I altered a George shirt from Walmart that had potential but fit like a garbage bag. I used your tutorials and this is most fitted shirt I have ever worn. Thank you man 👍 you have helped me out alot.
@natedawid Get an old Kenmore with metal gears/innards. You can pick one up for like $20, it'll do all of the stitches you'll need, it'll sew through things like denim, and it'll last for decades. Just oil it and keep the lint from jamming up the bobbin.
I watch a lot of RUclips just like everyone else and it's SUPER annoying when I'm doing research on like Macbooks lets say and it takes like 3 minutes to get into the content.
totally awesome. I just learned to sew with my mother-in-law's sewing machine; I had to hem some jeans. Now the husband is asking me to alter sleeves on this t-shirts. The process is very similar to hemming the jeans. Thanks for posting this, I really feel like I can easily tackle this project. Thanks.

Hi Stylish D! I love your videos! They’ve given me confidence to try tailoring my clothes ❤. Could you do a video like this on tshirt sleeves that taper in? I dont have enough fabric on the hem to shorten it because its a bigger circumference now. Thanks for the help!
Hey Stylish D! I'm a huge fan of your videos! I've always liked the idea of tailoring my own clothes but I've never dared do it. I have a running t shirt that I really like the design of but it fits like a big boxy bin bag, including huge flappy short sleeves. Is it possible to do this on a shirt with technical material and elasticated sleeve cuffs?
First off your videos are great I literally alter everything I own thanks to your videos. I'm a longshoreman and have to wear safety vest and I even alter those to fit my tall lanky frame since they usually come in fat, fatter or fat as F, just bc I'm working doesn't mean I have to look sloppy am I right. Anyways I'm guessing it I wanted to shorten the length and the width, I would start with the length first right and its the same technique for a short sleeve button up?
I need a sewing machine asap. I got theeee dopest T shirt but its a mens and the sleeves are so long but i dont want it to be all cut up. This is so amazing!
Somehow I got the unconscious impression I have to subscribe this channel ;-) But wait: I am already subscribed long time ago. Greetings from Munich, Tom.
Love how you explain things. Could you show me how to fix the shoulder line of shirts? My husband wears 3xl only because of the length these shirts are, but the shoulders are always awful. His actual size is XL Tall but “Tall” sizes are hard to find. I fixed his shirt sleeve to make them tighter thanks to you. But now I have no idea what to do with the top of the shoulders that line is so low.
@@StylishDTailors did you ever get to make that one? I have a tshirt I need to fix the shoulders and sleeves on. I can’t even believe how huge the shoulders are on this thing. Just found you and am loving your videos - thanks so much!!!
or avoid this whole solution by buying a 1/8" double needle. Trim hem, sew flat on top, guiding as close to the edge as you can...this needle provides a zigzag on the back when you sew STRAIGHT...so the appearance is the same, the stretch is there because of the zigzag on the back and there's no lump of fabric under your hem.
So you're saying cut the factory hem off, fold a half inch or so, then sew around sleeve once as close to the edge as possible then another below that first one?
@@R-Lee- thats how I assumed it should be done before watching this video... Also I'm not sure why it is important to be particular about the distance of the pins from the edge of the sleeve- it doesn't seem to make a difference where you pin it as long as fold is the same width all the way around.
You pin and sew the shirt right side out but below you advised to sew it inside out. Neither looks right. Where does the "lip" come in also? What am I missing? Thank you.
Can you make a tutorial on how to make a long sleeve tshirt into a 3/4 sleeve? Thank you! Also, I used your tshirt length tutorial to hem one of my favorite band’s tshirt that was too long, now it fits perfectly thanks to you!

First video to show up and last I had to watch. Thanks! you didnt mention thread color? is it assumed to get the shirt's color? Also, do you have a video shortening sleeves where Lump can be avoided?
You can match the thread yes but it isn't mandatory. It would actually be a cool way to personalize your shirt by adding red thread to the sleeve ( or any other color!)
I'm brand new to a sewing machine and really struggled with this. I ruined around 10 cheap shirts from goodwill before I finally got the hang of it, and I almost gave up several times. If, like me, you are a total beginner, here are a few tips: * buy a bunch of the same shirt. instead of the math at the beginning (didn't make any sense to me), just try shortening by 3/4" or 1" or whatever. if you took too little off, increase the amount taken off by doing the whole process again. trial and error is easier than math. * many shirts taper towards the armpit. so if you're taking 1", you won't be able to get the 1" all the way around. in fact, on some of my shirts, at the armpit seam, the amount taken off is 0! I spent wayyyy too long before I realized this. * not letting the shirt bunch up is huge. D mentions this in the video but you really gotta pay attention. * be extraordinarily careful when cutting away the excess at the end, otherwise your work was for nothing (unless you wanna learn how to patch). remember, the excess is hidden from view, so the only person who will ever see your cutting job is you (or whomever does your laundry). it's better to cut away too little than too much, otherwise you'll have a visible hole. best of luck gents, and thank you D for the content.
I just picked up 3 shirts from the alterations shop. They shorted the sleeves, but what I wasn't expecting when my husband tried them on was that the sleeves seemed wider. I guess I assumed they were the same width down the length of the sleeve. What's the best way to make them more narrow?
Respect for not wasting my time lol also not telling me to mutilate my shirt like everyone else is 😂 every fuckin yt vid says "just cut it with scissors yolo"
Do you have a more recent video explaining the math on this? I'm a bit confused. At 1:35 the screen shows .25 inches but measuring tape looks like .5 (half an inch).
I need to shorten a jersey short sleeve shirt 3 inches and the under arm does not match with the stripes on the shirt. It is a Cubs shirt. What are my measurements and what do I do about the under arm and matching the stripes? I am figuring 1 1/2 in from the bottom of the original hem. Is that correct?
What's the purpose of having the pins exactly 1/4 inches from the original hem, when you are actually measuring 1/2 inches for the fold? Took a minute to just give up on the math and do it in practice. I found that it didn't really matter that the pins were exact as that wasn't the guide, it was the first stitch of the existing hem that needed to be followed.
can you make a video on how to shorten a long sleeved shirt without losing the factory hem? i have a long sleeved shirt i love but the sleeves are way too long and go past my hands, but they have a cute like cuff at the end i don't want to lose :( can you help? 🥺
Since I don't have a sewing machine, I'm going to fold it like I'm going to put a cigarette pack in it, put a few hand stitches in to hold the fold, and wear it like my name is Joey.
@@StylishDTailors but didn't you fold a quarter inch, so multiplied by 2 for both sides would be a half inch right. Where else did you take in the fabric?
I'm terrible at math, but i do sew--wouldnt you measure .5 inch from the fold if you're taking it in 1 whole inch? Because... aren't you taking out an inch, or are you MEASURING an inch up FROM THE HEM when worn?
