It’s all linked to my Home Assistant/Hubitat/Homekit environment and the colour accuracy is plenty good enough for me. Plus the T3 doesn’t seem to have 75 inch support yet. Tip: Use the RUclips calibration video which has the 4 orange squares in the corner to save sticking the physical ones on your screen during setup.

I have a similar backlight and I recommend adding an additional cheap white backlight strip to the tv. I find that when the backlight turns off during a dark scene it is distracting. The effects are certainly more subtle with the extra light but it makes everyday usage so much better and you can always turn off the extra light strip when you want the full immersion.
Another pretty big CON of the Camera vs HDMI sync is aspect ratio. If you watch nothing but 16:9 on your 16:9 screen it's all good. But if you watch some movies that have a much wider aspect ratio, you end up with black bars on your screen and the camera doesn't know how to handle that because it sees black on the top and bottom. HDMI sync analyzes the video signal before it's ever output to a screen so you won't have that issue.
The Govee 3 covered in this video has “black bar elimination for precise color extraction from screen edges” according to the press release - most of the reviews coming out mention it. Although it’s not mentioned on the Govee product pages.

But, I still have a great old plasma from Panasonic which obviously doesn't have ambilight, so I'd love to add this. My TV is on a green wall, so does this have wall colour adaptation, or was it the bit in the video when the white balance is adjusted? I hope it's a yes, pretty good Black Friday deal on this today ;-) Thanks.

Thinking of switching out to this brand but I’m afraid it will come out like the Best Buy one. On the video are saying to NOT buy the sync box or yes to buy it ? Because with the Best Buy one I had to buy the sync box and stripped lights and a bridge and another light bar so much.
Hi there, can you share your app settings please? I must be doing something wrong cause the colors are not that close to what they should. Only thing I can think of is when doing the calibration I could barely see the top left and right orange dots (even after moving the camera). So here I am thinking if I mirror your app settings I may get better results. Thanks in advance
Great review, thank you. The colour delay really bothers me...and who really watches TV directly these days? Viewing is almost always done via fire sticks, consoles, apps or external boxes like Virgin or Sky. However, if you've got Sky Glass, a camera-mounted system like this one could be a great alternative to sync boxes. Personally, after researching similar products, I find FancyLEDs to be the most reactive, and that's the level of accuracy I'm looking for. They also offer products that can sync via an app to enhance the ambiance in the room. I'd love to hear your opinion on this brand, in comparison to Govee
All of the tv leds I see are on wall mounted TV’s. How would this do on a 65” tv in the corner of a room on a unit? The top centre of the tv is nearly 70 cm from the wall. Would I lose most of the effect?
Got one! I’m impressed so far. However, I noticed that sometimes the colours are “all off” on the side where the camera can get a reflection of the chimney breast on one side or the window on the other.
How does this compare to the T1? I have it and been struggling to get it to accurately show the colours on every area of the bottom corners. I've also messed around with the colour balance and saturation settings a lot but constantly feel it's not quite right
So I bought this some time ago and have never been happy with it. If I set it to a single color it is blindingly bright but when I switch to video it's like it goes into half brightness and if it's a dark scene it looks like it goes off completely. And don't get me started on the fact that I have to have all lights off in the room for video mode to do anything other than "bland yellow". I've been through all settings multiple times and never found a fix. Could I have done something wrong during calibrations?
Not sure, but if you can't get it to work like others show in their videos (even with lights on), then it's worth recalibrating. You can try changing other variables too that you haven't looked at.

It'd be nice if TV OSes would build in this functionality, and just output a tiny image (like 16 × 16) of their display contents, over USB or the network.

@ Yes. That could work. Like a "Video Return Channel". Except you'd still need an additional sync-box. And studios would inevitably insist it's heavily DRMed.

Thanks for your review, for soem movies that dont fill the screeen (top and Bottom) were you would have dark bar top and bottom, how does it cope with that, does it duplicate the dark bar assumign tjhats the colour to display or otherwise
I just installed mine last night. There’s actually a mode specifically for those black bars. It makes the back lights a bit brighter. It does not think the black bars are the screen color
needs to be on the bottom pointing up, being on top of the screen is in eye sight and is a black spot in the ambilight. TV manufacturers need to implement a HDMI clone output of what is on the screen, first one that comes up with that will take a share of the TV market.
We have a Philips Ambilight TV in one room, Mrs loves it I turn it off. Thing that bugged me about it was that its just 3 sides, they did do 4 sides for a year on their top end TVs but have dumped that idea now and gone back to 3. Cost em at least 1 sale 🤦
We've got a 4 sided Ambilight Philips OLED and like you, I turn it off. I just find the whole thing distracting and struggle to see the point of it for 95% of the time.
Is that the 65” kit on a 75” tv? I don’t see a larger kit in my marketplace? And given how many products I end up buying, maybe consider more Amazon markets 😀

Whoa! Hang on a minute... So much to discuss about this video, more so if anyone here is a new viewer of Paul's productions. Maybe it's just me, but did anyone detect a difference in this production? A more aloof manner in the way things are presented, and the subtle words and storytelling done in the way that a potential politician might use? Yes! I think Paul's working on becoming an independent political candidate, and we are seeing this subtle change happening in front of us. Now, the story of Paul giving his father-in-law a 3 Grand TV... now, technically that is true, but a newcomer to this channel would be unaware that this TV was given to the father-in-law as a payment for forcing his daughter to marry Paul! Now, politicians do this thing all the time, and this subtle hidden backstory not being presented just confirmed that to me! Not only that, Paul upset the Twitteratte with his disgusting habit of putting the toilet roll on the hanger the wrong way around!! I mean, some things you can overlook, but never such a disgusting thing as this! Now, in thinking about it, it's possible that his bought and paid-for wife may be doing this as a way of sending a message to the outside world to save her!!!! Heck, this story is getting wild... potential politician pays for a child bride who wants to be rescued by subtle coded messages! Heck! Why waste this story here!! I'm off to the SUN to make a few bob here!!!! - Oh, and nice video Paul! :)
I don't like this channel, less bad jokes and distracting skits. A few jokes are fine but this is too much and he layers them on top of each other, and I never laugh. . .Never. Not hating, I appreciate the content, I'm just being brutally honest.

My next tellybox is going to be the ginormous TCL 98" and I'll try the Govee solution as using camera detection will also control the lights when using the apps. Just hope the Govee 85" kit will be enough as I can't see they make a 95" - 100" rig.

How does it compare to the v1 in dealing with the ambient light in the room?
Do you need to have a white walls for this to work? I have dark grey wallpaper behind my TV.
All of the tv leds I see are on wall mounted TV’s. How would this do on a 65” tv in the corner of a room on a unit? The top centre of the tv is nearly 70 cm from the wall. Would I lose most of the effect?
I have it like that on a 77 inch. And it is just fine. Really good
Got one! I’m impressed so far. However, I noticed that sometimes the colours are “all off” on the side where the camera can get a reflection of the chimney breast on one side or the window on the other.
The color accuracy thing, it seems blue sky is an issue and always displays as purple. Have you found this to be the case?
I understand this is the TV 3 lite and you compaired this to the T1 BUT I have the T2 Install .... so Should i Upgrade to this one insteed ?
Sony A95L TV has Bravia Cam on top of the TV. Would that make this incompatible with the this product?
wqit my tv has a camera built in? i thought it was an option?
@@jalofanclub It's a plugin camera provided with the TV. I ended up sticking the Govee camera to the Bravia camera with a self-adhesive rubber spacer. Govee 3 works great that way.
Will this work with the frame damming tv if wall l mounted? Thank you
Excellent video as always clicked on link to buy but its for 55 inch up tv am i being stupid as cant find any for smaller tv do you just cut them down or is there different kit that i need to buy tried looking on there shop but cant seem to find one
It'd be nice if TV OSes would build in this functionality, and just output a tiny image (like 16 × 16) of their display contents, over USB or the network.
Philips have had built in ambient lighting for years!
@ Yeah, but I want the raw data!
@@andybrice2711 the answer is for TVs to start adding an HDMI “monitor out”. Then any existing HDMI sync box can make use of the standardised signal.
@ Yes. That could work. Like a "Video Return Channel". Except you'd still need an additional sync-box. And studios would inevitably insist it's heavily DRMed.
The T3 is 24V how do you connect it to your 240v mains supply?
I have a 55" samsung CURVED tele...do you think the curved screen will throw off the camera?
Try it and come back and tell us.
Can these still work if I stick them to the back of vinyl shelves to use alongside my turntable and amplifier ? Or only work on a tv with the camera ?
Am I correct in thinking this camera can't be mounted under the TV? I'm looking at this product or the T2 and leaning more for the T2 as the camera can be located at the bottom of the TV
When do think tele manufactures will start building ambient lighting in?
Like Phillips 🤔
I'm afraid HDMI clone output won't happen because of the HDCP.
What is the minimum height above the top bezel when the camera is mounted? My "tele" is within a wall unit and has limited clearance
Hi Paul, how did you get the calibration to work? the camera wont connect in the android or iOS app
can we test the camera from the bottom position of the tv
Why no word about the actual predecessor to the T3, the T2? 🤔
Can you put the camera upside down at the bottom (i.e. hidden behind a sound bar)?
Just bought this on the back of this review. It better be good Paul!
You won’t be disappointed! 😁👍🏻
So where does the T2 fit in?
I'm interested in this kit but it would be on a 75" Samsung QLED primarily for video games. Do these lights translate well for gaming? Thanks
What does the presentation look like in B/W movies such as "Schildler's List"? T2 is not able to display white light. What about T3?
how does this work if your tv is mounted on an accent wall thats blue? also if your tv in mounter very close to the wall?
Hello! I bought T1 year ago. I didn't realise that camera doesn't match OLED TV... Now I'm thinking about buying T3. Is it worth to change T1?
We have a Philips Ambilight TV in one room, Mrs loves it I turn it off. Thing that bugged me about it was that its just 3 sides, they did do 4 sides for a year on their top end TVs but have dumped that idea now and gone back to 3. Cost em at least 1 sale 🤦
We've got a 4 sided Ambilight Philips OLED and like you, I turn it off. I just find the whole thing distracting and struggle to see the point of it for 95% of the time.
Which option is better. The T2 or this the 3 Lite? Confused to which one to go with.
Do you need ALOT of space around your tv? My 77" is two inches from ceiling and 4" from Ledge. but ample space on sides.....
When it was said it is better than the last one, which one is that? The T1 or T2?
Is that the 65” kit on a 75” tv? I don’t see a larger kit in my marketplace? And given how many products I end up buying, maybe consider more Amazon markets 😀
hmm, you're right! I guess they're not stocked up on it yet 😳
Spotted that as well ... Need a 75 inch version 😢😢
@@albie9999 ditto. Had hopes the 65 worked that well on a 75
Ordered one. Sale price was $59 usd. I will post impressions when I get it going. First movie will be Godzilla Minus One for the nuclear breath and then a couple episodes fromnthe first season of Demon Slayer anime. (Which is famous for its use of color) UPDATE- Demon Slayer demo in on my channel. Very cool looking!
Have you tried the t2 version? If so which is better.
I haven’t tried it. I think the Govee website breaks down the comparison, but honestly, I don’t see how it could be better than this. It’s is absurdly good
So if I buy a govee backlight, I can put it around things and will make things look bigger?
Is there a risk of electric shock?
Great video - good to know the good and the bad!
This comment is worryingly accurate! 😂
I think a Sun reporter may be in touch soon :)@@paulhibbert
I don't like this channel, less bad jokes and distracting skits. A few jokes are fine but this is too much and he layers them on top of each other, and I never laugh. . .Never. Not hating, I appreciate the content, I'm just being brutally honest.
@@brent829 easier to just stop visiting the site, since clearly your needs are not being met by Paul. But, I bet it’s him not putting toilet paper on the holder correctly behind this bad feeling… depart from this den of despair and go and watch gaming channels instead. 😎🥸
@@brent829you are incorrect
Does this support gaming???
Yes it adds immersion to your game play
@@pimpstick9988 why do people care about gaming support?
Yes it does and it works pretty well. I was running through some trees in Ghosts of Tsushima and it accurately portrayed the colors so it looked like I was passing through the trees on the wall behind the tv. Pretty cool
@@Izthefaithful you have any issue with adjusting the color to match mine simply doesn’t match at all.. I even calibrated the thing multiple times.
Hi Paul getting a 65” TV soon would I get the 3m or 5m version for it this?
I’m assuming the 5m version.
Cheers
What if my tv is inside a built in entertainment wall with an inch of clearance on all sides would this be worth it ?
Can I put the camera under the tv and not on the top? Would be less visible.
I accidentally purchased a govee kit for a 75-85 inch tv but my tv is only 65inch. could i still use it somehow or would it not function properly?
Yup! I've seen Reddit threads where people have doubled up the strip by applying it in a wave pattern: www.reddit.com/r/Govee/comments/o1piqo/govee_immersion_on_43_inch_tv/?share_id=gaguVpP3LixGtK0S9rTcL&
So, if my wife is watching RUclips, and doesn't want the sync on but just wants a static color. Is that a possibility with this unit?
Hello, would this work on a pull out tv? One that is on a stand and comes away from the wall? Im worried that the colours wont look as great if the tv is away from the wall
I've got a Philips TV in the kitchen with built in Ambilight which is fine, then I bought the Philips add-on lights with HDMI Syns Box for my main Samsung TV which works great except when using Samsungs Smart Hub to watch BBC iPlayer or other apps like Netflix or Amazon Prime, the lights still react to whatever is playing through the Sync Box.
My next tellybox is going to be the ginormous TCL 98" and I'll try the Govee solution as using camera detection will also control the lights when using the apps.
Just hope the Govee 85" kit will be enough as I can't see they make a 95" - 100" rig.
I recently bought one but it seems to have a problem it can only do one color at a time, tried the ambilight color test and when it was only one color worked like a dream but two colors an it was just white all around, would love to hear some advice😢
And great video by the way
He'll wondering where do you get the demo videos you have at the start of your video I've searched on you tube but can't find much thanks in advance
Hi! Can you actually put the camera at the bottom screen instead at the top so it is less noticeable? I’ve been planning to get one of those.
Yes. I did mine at the bottom. Be sure to use the setup to invert the color matching step. It’ll be opposite.
@@traceymalonedid you find the color matching/coverage to be better at the bottom than the top?
Sometimes it matches the scene of a video game or movie very well and other times not? I’m not super sure what this is due to. I feel like my calibration was pretty good. It’s currently mounted at the top
I work in a callcenter. - It cracks me up every time you say that 🙂
I don't miss it

Hello, do you know if Govee still do this matter enabled? I can't find it on their web any more.
Does the new version still show blue instead of black or is that sorted now? Its the only thing that upsets me about the T1
Can you sync any lights to the Govee Lite 3 in dream view. I currently have the T2 camera with lights that sync to T2. Will those same lights link to the new Govee Lite 3 in dream view or do I have to buy all new lights
I have an insanely bright tv so i was wondering which one has the best brightness level ?
Your TV I would imagine, projectors are starting to catch up, but TV's are still brighter
@@paulhibbert haha yeah my TV is 2000 nits so I'm just a bit worried that the backlight wouldn't look as good compared to a dimmer tv
It’s swings and roundabout, with TVs now getting bigger for cheaper you would only really want a projector like this if you were going for 120” and up, or you wanted a roll away screen I guess
Thanks Paul, hope you've had a great Christmas. I got this as a present and came to install it but didn't have enough clearance between the front of the TV (I have a Samsung QLED from 2017 with the slim Samsung wall mount) and the wall to fit the camera. I will try to buy a right angled USB-C adapter to see if this will allow it to fit and post the result here in a couple of days. For reference you need 75mm from the front of your screen to the wall to fit the camera in.
So my tv is a 70”. So do I get the 55-65 or 75-85? I can’t really seem to find any answers.
I know you hate philps hue Paul but what about the Samsung tv hue app, is that any good
Will this work on a smaller 42" tv? the listing says 55"+
Thanks for the great video Paul! Do these kind of things also work for a coloured wall? I have a green wall behind ny tv
I mostly use my tv for gaming, should i get a sync box?
Im curious how the Nanoleaf 4D immersion strip compares
