Paul, what settings (brightness saturation etc). did you use please? I have upgraded from the T1 and I can't seem to get the black scenes to not show red. :-(
I made my own about a year ago. It was a nightmare getting hold of a Raspberry Pi 4 at the time, but I genuinely wouldn't live without it now. I have more LEDs per meter. Them ones look like 30ppm, I went for 60ppm myself. I use an esp32 connected to the strip with WLED installed, and that interfaces with the Raspberry Pi with HyperHDR installed on it. @@paulhibbert I’m tempted by the lytmi fantasy 3. It looks amazing and has ai to work out scenes from audio without hdmi for built in tv apps etc. hdmi 2.1 4k120hz looks great although quite expensive. I do like the Govee but don’t like a camera stuck to the top of the tv lol
Dude! If you could create a video, detailing your setup (kind of idiot proof), and how to get it running, I'd be ready to pay some amount of money. That's the kind of setup I'm looking for. I'm not joking btw! I'm just not smart enough to figure this out on my own from scratch.
Great Video as always, love your reviews, I have a question can the camera be put at the bottom? why does it have to be the top? it would be more out of sight at the bottom
Can the camera be mounted or positioned at the bottom of the TV? If there was several inches of clearance between the TV and the cabinet it's sitting on?
Probably a silly question but could you put the camera underneath the TV. I would have thought this would be a lot less noticable, especially if your using a stand.
Checked the link and am I getting the right thing, it looks like it's £149 reduced to £89. Am i looking for something less than £75? Sorry if i am being daft.
So if I buy a govee backlight, I can put it around things and will make things look bigger? Is there a risk of electric shock? Great video - good to know the good and the bad!
Another pretty big CON of the Camera vs HDMI sync is aspect ratio. If you watch nothing but 16:9 on your 16:9 screen it's all good. But if you watch some movies that have a much wider aspect ratio, you end up with black bars on your screen and the camera doesn't know how to handle that because it sees black on the top and bottom. HDMI sync analyzes the video signal before it's ever output to a screen so you won't have that issue.
The Govee 3 covered in this video has “black bar elimination for precise color extraction from screen edges” according to the press release - most of the reviews coming out mention it. Although it’s not mentioned on the Govee product pages.
I've got a Philips TV in the kitchen with built in Ambilight which is fine, then I bought the Philips add-on lights with HDMI Syns Box for my main Samsung TV which works great except when using Samsungs Smart Hub to watch BBC iPlayer or other apps like Netflix or Amazon Prime, the lights still react to whatever is playing through the Sync Box. My next tellybox is going to be the ginormous TCL 98" and I'll try the Govee solution as using camera detection will also control the lights when using the apps. Just hope the Govee 85" kit will be enough as I can't see they make a 95" - 100" rig.
Whoa! Hang on a minute... So much to discuss about this video, more so if anyone here is a new viewer of Paul's productions. Maybe it's just me, but did anyone detect a difference in this production? A more aloof manner in the way things are presented, and the subtle words and storytelling done in the way that a potential politician might use? Yes! I think Paul's working on becoming an independent political candidate, and we are seeing this subtle change happening in front of us. Now, the story of Paul giving his father-in-law a 3 Grand TV... now, technically that is true, but a newcomer to this channel would be unaware that this TV was given to the father-in-law as a payment for forcing his daughter to marry Paul! Now, politicians do this thing all the time, and this subtle hidden backstory not being presented just confirmed that to me! Not only that, Paul upset the Twitteratte with his disgusting habit of putting the toilet roll on the hanger the wrong way around!! I mean, some things you can overlook, but never such a disgusting thing as this! Now, in thinking about it, it's possible that his bought and paid-for wife may be doing this as a way of sending a message to the outside world to save her!!!! Heck, this story is getting wild... potential politician pays for a child bride who wants to be rescued by subtle coded messages! Heck! Why waste this story here!! I'm off to the SUN to make a few bob here!!!! - Oh, and nice video Paul! :)
I don't like this channel, less bad jokes and distracting skits. A few jokes are fine but this is too much and he layers them on top of each other, and I never laugh. . .Never. Not hating, I appreciate the content, I'm just being brutally honest.
@@brent829 easier to just stop visiting the site, since clearly your needs are not being met by Paul. But, I bet it’s him not putting toilet paper on the holder correctly behind this bad feeling… depart from this den of despair and go and watch gaming channels instead. 😎🥸
Loved the musical accompaniment to the on/off segment. I usually don't laugh at musical accompaniment, but I did this time. I do like that it works with a whole slew of smart-home platforms, including Home Assistant(!) The only problem is that I'm just not in the demographic for this product, though my daughter might be for those times when she has friends over for video games. It clearly adds some zing to the normal presentation. Once again, Govee shows that you shouldn't have to spend huge amounts of cash to get excellent results. Thanks once again for the "what's wrong with it section." It's really helpful and it's also what sets your reviews ahead of the others. Thanks also for a great and entertaining review. Keep up the good work.
thank you, thank you, thank you for always telling me it as it is with any product you review. I will definitely be picking up one of these new govee dreamview backlight 3 tv lighting systems!

Hi there, can you share your app settings please? I must be doing something wrong cause the colors are not that close to what they should. Only thing I can think of is when doing the calibration I could barely see the top left and right orange dots (even after moving the camera). So here I am thinking if I mirror your app settings I may get better results. Thanks in advance
Do you prefer this over the Govee hdmi sync box? I would be using with Nividia shield . Also can you mix hue and Govee lights together with Alexa? Any help would be much appreciated
Thanks Paul, hope you've had a great Christmas. I got this as a present and came to install it but didn't have enough clearance between the front of the TV (I have a Samsung QLED from 2017 with the slim Samsung wall mount) and the wall to fit the camera. I will try to buy a right angled USB-C adapter to see if this will allow it to fit and post the result here in a couple of days. For reference you need 75mm from the front of your screen to the wall to fit the camera in.
Great Video as usual... Just a quick question...is this the "Govee TV 3 Lite"? That appears to be the only thing that pops up if I search on Amazon in Germany for a 3rd Generation and it confused me a bit since "Lite" seems to indicate some kind of entry level budget thingy...

It is indeed the 3 Lite. I’m assuming there will soon be a 3 “full fat” bringing the 3rd gen features of the lite and the extras the T2 has (dual lens, double the LED density etc).

We have a Philips Ambilight TV in one room, Mrs loves it I turn it off. Thing that bugged me about it was that its just 3 sides, they did do 4 sides for a year on their top end TVs but have dumped that idea now and gone back to 3. Cost em at least 1 sale 🤦
We've got a 4 sided Ambilight Philips OLED and like you, I turn it off. I just find the whole thing distracting and struggle to see the point of it for 95% of the time.
I recently bought one but it seems to have a problem it can only do one color at a time, tried the ambilight color test and when it was only one color worked like a dream but two colors an it was just white all around, would love to hear some advice😢 And great video by the way
Awesome review! One question I have is….When applying the light strips to the back of the tv, how do they stick seamlessly specifically at the corners?
Nice. So tempted. The camera really bugs me though. Maybe one day there will be a software upgradable hdmi box which delays both audio and video output to the tv thus enabling a 100% exact match of signal light/colour intensity to the led as it appears on the tv. One day. Soon.
In the mean time Philips Ambilight TV's are your best option. I just bought 2 on Black Friday deals, one for the dining room and one for the living room
The issue with your idea is that it won't work for streaming video directly in the TV, like I do for everything. I literally never use HDMI. I either stream from the net or from my NAS.
@@paulhibbert Fifty and more years ago, when I was growing up, my mother did not allow television viewing during meals. Now, the misses and I plop ourselves on the couch, dinner plates in hand almost every night. I thought the camera would really annoy me (I have the T1 version, but I stuck it at the bottom instead of the top and I barely notice it now (the soundbar hides it anyway) The trouble with V1 is that when there is a dark image on screen it decided I want bright blue around the edges. which is annoying.
Warning for those with a 65" TV the govee strips are 122cm by 59cm .. a 55" TV has side lengths approx 121 cm by 69 cm a 65" TV is approx 145 cm by 82 cm So its clear that it is designed for a 55" TV only and using the strip on a 65" tv would be totally inappropriate. the gaps in the corners where there are no LEDs are painfully visible. 😞

Do they have a hdmi sync box option? I couldn’t put up with that camera arm. Don’t really think the future hdmi capability is a big deal, after all the TV itself has the same problem?
@@paulhibbert Govee does have an HDMI sync box but it's not meant for TV and somehow only monitors? I never understood that. Paul, with your connection to Govee, that might be a good question to ask them.
About 7 years ago i got a dreamscreen (and then the 4k version later) which is a sync box thru hdmi. Unfortunately due to lack of demand and some other issues, the creater decided to ditch dreamscreen. (Apparently they sold their design to phillips which is now the over priced but not as good hue sync box) it still cost around 300 something and i got 4 sidekicks with that (side kicks were finicky tho) So dreamscreen is no more. Its an amazing product that is still going strong. However because my receiver is not 4k i had to add a 4k splitter into the mix and run 2 seperate 4k lines (one to tv, other to sync box) and it was a tedious setup process. I do have other govee lights that i love as well (floor lamp, 2 glides, and some 64 footers) i also have a bunch of hue bulbs. My house is pretty chaotic haha I just got the t3 lite today in the mail because i want to compound the tv backlighting and sync the other govee liights in the room with the tv lol. Going to be fun
Hi Paul, Great video. As well as providing great straight forward information it was funny. I purchased the Govee 3 Lite after seeing it.. I just want to ask you one quick question . I'm just about to fit the Light strip to my 55 inch Lg Oled and my question is how far in from the edge of the TV should I fit the Light Strip ? Thanks
Is that the 65” kit on a 75” tv? I don’t see a larger kit in my marketplace? And given how many products I end up buying, maybe consider more Amazon markets 😀
I had the previous edition of the govee ambilights but i ended my adventure by selling the tv with the govee camera and ledstrips still on it and buying a philips tv with ambilights built in from the factory. No more dissapointments, better then an hdmi box and the tv itself also has ambilight when watching. Maybe this new version 3 of govee could have made me happy for a cheaper price lol

Great review - I'm buying one. So true about Axl and such a shame. I saw GNR at Wembleyon the 1991-2 tour and it was the best gig I ever saw. I avoid him now ... makes me cry :(
First time watching your videos and first 2 minutes made me subscribe and also because I am too frustrated with RUclipsrs who don’t specify the things the device is not good at. They are just advertising at the end of the day.
needs to be on the bottom pointing up, being on top of the screen is in eye sight and is a black spot in the ambilight. TV manufacturers need to implement a HDMI clone output of what is on the screen, first one that comes up with that will take a share of the TV market.
Having watched this video and being impressed I bit the bullet and bought one, after 5 days of attempting to configure it with the help of Govee I have had to reluctantly give up. The colour accuracy particularly at the bottom of my screen was way out, almost displaying random colours. Govee told me they had done a firmware update yesterday but this did not help I am now seeking a refund. In the mean time I ordered the Philips Sync box and yes it is ridiculously expensive but it blows the Govee out of the water, simply no comparison, I guess the Govee might work for some depending on your TV size etc but it will be a gamble so be warned.
Maybe other light sources are disctracting the picture the camera takes in and interpretes? In another video the PS5 stood next to the TV and the LED light of it was responsible for the inaccuracy.
I have the first version, and I'm looking to replace it. When I got it, I had a 60-inch TV, but now I have a 70-inch, so the camera just doesn't work as well. Because the version I got was designed for the smaller screen, when it was put on the larger screen it's not picking up all the edges. It works, but not as well as it did on the smaller screen. I like Govee and trust their products, and I wish they offered an HDMI box because I'd like to move to that technology to get rid of the camera setup. Also, it looks like the two camera models they have are 55-65 and 75-85, which puts my 70-inch TV right in the middle of not being well suited to either of them. When my wife saw the 70-inch I brought home about a year ago, she said it was too big, but now that she's gotten used to the size she wants a bigger one. Women. Looks like 75-inch TVs are around $1K and 85-inch TVs are around $2K, so maybe it's time to upgrade that and then get the Govee camera for the larger size TV.
Am I correct in thinking this camera can't be mounted under the TV? I'm looking at this product or the T2 and leaning more for the T2 as the camera can be located at the bottom of the TV
Went to start this video and my TV said it was in restricted mode(because can't log into the TV on RUclips Chrome for some reason). So I had to go in and turn off restrict mode(witch I have to do cause it turns itself on 🤷♀️) to watch this video. What's up with this vid being restricted homie? ETA: I HAVE YET TO BE BAITED, WHY WAS THIS VIDEO RESTRICTED...(not really mad was just kinda hopeful. 😭) ETA again: Okay, I'm going to say that unedited clip of G&R is probably what caused the content warning... PS: And more bloopers at the end.. love the bloopers... 🥰
Can I suggest you move those Atmos speakers to "front height", to the very top of the wall? The result is way better than "upfiring", if the ceiling placent is not an option.
How does this compare to the T1? I have it and been struggling to get it to accurately show the colours on every area of the bottom corners. I've also messed around with the colour balance and saturation settings a lot but constantly feel it's not quite right
I've had two govee kits and both were rubbish. I got the Lytmi Fantasy kit and it's a lot better. I will never go back to the nacklight kit that relies on a camera to match the screen colours. I bought a Philips Ambilight TV a few months ago and the lytmi kit is still better than the TV backlight.
Badly. This is just T1.5. It can't match the T2 dual camera system. The strip on the T2 have double the led amount, and that alone makes huge difference.

Can you sync any lights to the Govee Lite 3 in dream view. I currently have the T2 camera with lights that sync to T2. Will those same lights link to the new Govee Lite 3 in dream view or do I have to buy all new lights
Ahhhh your conclusion omg. 1. Some higher end tvs do have tv out. 2. If the tech moves on guess what you going to need a new tv so when you sell the old one are you peeling of the ambilight leds? NO your selling the tv with them attached. So might as well give them the sync box too. If you don't want too, guess what these are just normal addressable led strings you can mix and match. 3. There is a good chance that 3rd parties are going to open up more options on these units. Seriously I cannot understand why the camera units still exist unless there is a patent issue.

Do you have plans or could you point me to to a self build link please? It's going to be a long winter and I need a project! 🫤
Is it possible to put on the bottom?
Can the camera be mounted or positioned at the bottom of the TV? If there was several inches of clearance between the TV and the cabinet it's sitting on?
Sadly not 😔
They really should do this. It must be fairly easy just to rotate the image in software. And many people's TVs are on a table.
Probably a silly question but could you put the camera underneath the TV. I would have thought this would be a lot less noticable, especially if your using a stand.
Yeah it works better but then flip the pic in the settings
@@dmo848how do you actually flip the pic in the setting?
What I learned is my HTPC needs a sync box. I would go crazy seeing that camera stick on top of the TV.
I work in a callcenter. - It cracks me up every time you say that 🙂
I don't miss it
Another pretty big CON of the Camera vs HDMI sync is aspect ratio.
So the justice league Snyder cut is out of the question 🤣
@@stwlaidler correct
The Govee 3 covered in this video has “black bar elimination for precise color extraction from screen edges” according to the press release - most of the reviews coming out mention it. Although it’s not mentioned on the Govee product pages.
@ Oh wow that's great! Solves 1 of my biggest restraints from trying it.
What's it like compared to the Envisual T2?
This comment is worryingly accurate! 😂
I think a Sun reporter may be in touch soon :)@@paulhibbert

I do like that it works with a whole slew of smart-home platforms, including Home Assistant(!)
The only problem is that I'm just not in the demographic for this product, though my daughter might be for those times when she has friends over for video games.
Thanks as always Russell!
Why no word about the actual predecessor to the T3, the T2? 🤔
thank you, thank you, thank you for always telling me it as it is with any product you review. I will definitely be picking up one of these new govee dreamview backlight 3 tv lighting systems!
That Gun’s N Roses bit has got me howling 🤣🤣🤣
That was far too easy create. I put the family guy footage in and it immediately sync’s up almost every word I had it finished in about 2 minutes 🤣 xxx

End of the video he talks about it
The color accuracy thing, it seems blue sky is an issue and always displays as purple. Have you found this to be the case?
the top camera does it give any trouble - in terms of feels distracted OR keeps bothering in day or night view?
Thinking of buying a lite 3 to see if i like the effect before dropping big coin on a 2.1 box
@ Thanks.
I read up on it, and sadly it's only for TVs up to 65" so not for me unfortunately.
@@rolandrohde I think they will add a larger TV version to the Lite soon. But if you wait a bit longer you will be able to get the 3 Pro or whatever they call it. They are clearly creating 2 tiers of this product line for entry level and high end users.
I recently bought one but it seems to have a problem it can only do one color at a time, tried the ambilight color test and when it was only one color worked like a dream but two colors an it was just white all around, would love to hear some advice😢
And great video by the way
Just bought this on the back of this review. It better be good Paul!
You won’t be disappointed! 😁👍🏻
Awesome review!
One question I have is….When applying the light strips to the back of the tv, how do they stick seamlessly specifically at the corners?
Question... T2 or t3 lite ?.. whats the main differences??... please 😊
I believe I can answer this. More LEDS bulbs in the T2 600 vs 200 or so I believe.
Nice.
@@paulhibberthang on.... You bought something from "ph, ph, pH Phil, Phillips"?
The issue with your idea is that it won't work for streaming video directly in the TV, like I do for everything. I literally never use HDMI. I either stream from the net or from my NAS.
@@paulhibbert
Fifty and more years ago, when I was growing up, my mother did not allow television viewing during meals. Now, the misses and I plop ourselves on the couch, dinner plates in hand almost every night.
A part of me wants to invoke my mother's rules and go back to eating at the table with no television allowed. Just appropriate background music. 🙂
I thought the camera would really annoy me (I have the T1 version, but I stuck it at the bottom instead of the top and I barely notice it now (the soundbar hides it anyway) The trouble with V1 is that when there is a dark image on screen it decided I want bright blue around the edges. which is annoying.
Am I missing something?
I can’t see this model available for 75” TV. But was installed on one in the video? Does the 55-65” still work?
Is the t2 better though?
I understand this is the TV 3 lite and you compaired this to the T1 BUT I have the T2 Install .... so Should i Upgrade to this one insteed ?
Warning for those with a 65" TV
the govee strips are 122cm by 59cm ..
a 55" TV has side lengths approx 121 cm by 69 cm
a 65" TV is approx 145 cm by 82 cm
So its clear that it is designed for a 55" TV only and using the strip on a 65" tv would be totally inappropriate. the gaps in the corners where there are no LEDs are painfully visible. 😞
£62.49 direct from Govee...... I'm going to give this a go!! (What will the better half say about the overing camera above the telly?.....)
Excellent video as always clicked on link to buy but its for 55 inch up tv am i being stupid as cant find any for smaller tv do you just cut them down or is there different kit that i need to buy tried looking on there shop but cant seem to find one
Do they have a hdmi sync box option? I couldn’t put up with that camera arm.
Don’t really think the future hdmi capability is a big deal, after all the TV itself has the same problem?
Check out lytmi if you’re looking for a hdmi sync box, really cool
@@paulhibbert Govee does have an HDMI sync box but it's not meant for TV and somehow only monitors? I never understood that. Paul, with your connection to Govee, that might be a good question to ask them.
Hello! I bought T1 year ago. I didn't realise that camera doesn't match OLED TV... Now I'm thinking about buying T3. Is it worth to change T1?
About 7 years ago i got a dreamscreen (and then the 4k version later) which is a sync box thru hdmi. Unfortunately due to lack of demand and some other issues, the creater decided to ditch dreamscreen. (Apparently they sold their design to phillips which is now the over priced but not as good hue sync box) it still cost around 300 something and i got 4 sidekicks with that (side kicks were finicky tho)
So dreamscreen is no more. My house is pretty chaotic haha
I just got the t3 lite today in the mail because i want to compound the tv backlighting and sync the other govee liights in the room with the tv lol.
And given how many products I end up buying, maybe consider more Amazon markets 😀
hmm, you're right! I guess they're not stocked up on it yet 😳
Spotted that as well ... Need a 75 inch version 😢😢
@@albie9999 ditto. Had hopes the 65 worked that well on a 75
I had the previous edition of the govee ambilights but i ended my adventure by selling the tv with the govee camera and ledstrips still on it and buying a philips tv with ambilights built in from the factory. No more dissapointments, better then an hdmi box and the tv itself also has ambilight when watching.
Maybe this new version 3 of govee could have made me happy for a cheaper price lol
@5:02 Being taken thru a wizard sounds a bit messy tbh Paul
Also as a fellow midlander, @7:12 "Dunt it?" made me homesick lol
I have a DIY sync box based on hyperion, but this vid is making me seriously consider buying this!
That hoverboard from Back To The Future. Spotted that. 😎👍🏾
I think this will be my next purchase. Still have one question left: which game where you playing? Seems a nice game and cannot find it...
Do you need to have a white walls for this to work? I have dark grey wallpaper behind my TV.
How does it compare to the v1 in dealing with the ambient light in the room?
ETA again: Okay, I'm going to say that unedited clip of G&R is probably what caused the content warning...
PS: And more bloopers at the end.. love the bloopers... 🥰
Hi Paul getting a 65” TV soon would I get the 3m or 5m version for it this?
I’m assuming the 5m version.
Cheers
Can I suggest you move those Atmos speakers to "front height", to the very top of the wall? The result is way better than "upfiring", if the ceiling placent is not an option.
When it was said it is better than the last one, which one is that? The T1 or T2?
Which option is better. The T2 or this the 3 Lite? Confused to which one to go with.
Great video, very informative and funny, thanks I'm now going to purchase this kit with more confidence and all while it's on sale. Thanks mate 😎👍
I would personally give Paul my vote for him to become the leader of the free world just for his use of memes and old skool tv theme tunes
The T1 supports blank screen detection now too - it’s just a software/firmware update
I mostly use my tv for gaming, should i get a sync box?
One thing you didn't mention is that, the usb cable and the power cable are very short
Do you need ALOT of space around your tv? My 77" is two inches from ceiling and 4" from Ledge. but ample space on sides.....
I'm interested in this kit but it would be on a 75" Samsung QLED primarily for video games. Do these lights translate well for gaming? Thanks
When do think tele manufactures will start building ambient lighting in?
Like Phillips 🤔
Happy Saturday Paul. These lights look great. Thanks.
Does it leave sticky suff if u take it off the strip??
Great video Shane!! Still no matter for me. We (my wife) use Alexa and Apple Home
How does this compare to the dual camera system Govee sell?
Badly. This is just T1.5. It can't match the T2 dual camera system. The strip on the T2 have double the led amount, and that alone makes huge difference.
Long Time viewer from Cameroon. Delightful content, as usual.
Thanks dude!! 🥰
Thanks for the honest review Mr. Johnny Sins! I subbed now!
I bought the govee T1 backlight. And it's ok. I might get the t3 next

1. "Some"
2. Yes 🤷♂️
3. Huh?
How do you do that a black parts is not backlighted? I mean like 11:19
My backlight always light white on dark scenes..
So, if my wife is watching RUclips, and doesn't want the sync on but just wants a static color. Is that a possibility with this unit?
If you don’t have the control box… does it still function?
I switched from 3M tape to JB-Weld. Now stuff is stuck to the walls even after the walls are gone. :)
Hey ... US is sold out (as of 6:20 am UTC-6 .. 25th) .... you might want to change your aff link to something that's available ..
