Shrimp & Twiggy were the first super models. Both stunning. The fashion was revolutionary with Mary Quant & Biba bringing high fashion to the masses without haute coture prices. I was at Art College in London during that era. So much creativity & the music scene was something else. I saw the Beatles b4 they made a record. The Stones & Yardbirds both played in pubs in my hood. Also before they cut their 1st singles. The 60's were iconic in every way. Glad I was there!

Pattie (Pattycakes) Boyd : The most beautiful of ALL the Beatles wives. George Harrison was a very lucky man, even though he didn't appreciate her enough to dedicate himself to make her happy the rest of their lives. If Linda Eastman wouldn't have died Paul McCartney would still be with her to this day.

There was something, though, about the clean shaven, groomed, Hollywood look (of the old days) that did seem to preserve men better. But with the facial/hairy days, and broken down bodies of men today, it cannot be truthfully said, without being biased and blind, that men are now aging more gracefully and preserving their looks any better than their female counterparts, sadly.

P.S. Many younger men today, by decades (surprisingly) are in relationships with much older women. I don't see the appeal they do, but, quite obviously, there must be more to solid, thriving, enduring, intimate relationships than just looks...because these older women/younger men alliances are real...and growing in number in recent years.

He wanted George's position in the Beatles, he wanted his fame even if Eric was extremely successful as guitar star and his band Cream was also extremely successful. I have read countless dozens of memoirs. They are all written from one perspective and the stories told in ways the author wants them to be known. Not one autobiography is 100% accurate--events are omitted or embellished or minimized, making it impossible for the average reader to discern truth from fiction in many cases. I now see these books as light entertainment but not entirely factual depictions of one's experiences.

With age comes wisdom. Having been young myself during those times and also had connections through the music business with my first husband, I heard things. One thing said about George and Pattie as they were struggling was that a child was needed. Pattie had trouble conceiving and continued seeking treatments during her marriage to Clapton. Looking back, I highly doubt a child would have made a difference. Ringo had several and he divorced, John divorced Cynthia, Paul divorced his second wife who had a child with him. I doubt a child would have made any difference in holding the marriage together, not when all four, including most of the wives (Pattie too) slept around. It was the times and the atmosphere of the rock business with the drugs. My first husband cheated on me, sometimes with underage girls. I never did cheat on him, until the end when I knew it was over. Yes, we had children, children were not a preventive factor. I do know Eric had a few out of wedlock before he even hooked up with Pattie so you can imagine how often he slept around. Lots of stories to tell but just a sign of the times. It was chaotic to marriages. Marriages now that we all are older are longer-lasting and more stable, especially when you move out of the venue you mucked around in when younger. I wish Pattie well, she seems to have found love with a businessman who cares about her.

I was advised by an Assyrian woman raised in Iraq to have a baby to refocus my then husband's attention. Evidently, in her culture, this was considered a viable solution. I thought it to be the absolute worst advice ever given
to me---so far beyond ludicrous I was rendered speechless. Bringing a child into an already dysfunctional marriage doesn't improve it, solves absolutely nothing and only subjects the growing child to needless stress and anxiety in what will undoubtedly be a contentious household. We don't need more emotionally damaged adults out in the world raised by parents who should have never
had kids or been together to start with. My experience with this woman was about 25 years ago and I still find her solution completely idiotic.

I know it was the 60s (I was a young teen at that time), but come on. Fortunately for her, she found a more solid relationship with a third man, not someone famous.

Throughout this piece and many similar journalistic accounts, Boyd is portrayed as something of an innocent, passive/inert character, almost a 'clueless by-stander' in her relationships with the men in her life. Given even her modest professional success, I very much doubt that this is really the case. As all women will know, this portrayal of a mousey, demure public persona is often a convenient cover story for the part that a woman will actually play in determining her own path in her relationships with the men in her life. It's what the Americans term 'plausible deniability'. Far from being a mere 'passenger' in this video's carefully-curated tale of so-called 'romance' (I prefer the term 'fauxmance'), there is another term that appears to apply more accurately in Boyd's case, that of 'Serial Monkey-Branching'. An interesting and widely observed feature of this 'social-climbing' phenomena and certainly rings true with Boyd, is that the 'monkey' does not let go of the branch that is currently supporting it, until such time as it has a very firm grip upon the branch it is intending to move on to. Only then does the monkey dispassionately let go (dispose) of the first branch. You have to ask yourself, would Boyd have had cause to leave her then boyfriend, had she not met Harrison? Similarly, would she have left Harrison, if there had not been a Clapton to engage with. Another well-known feature of Monkey Branching, is that the women who serially behave in this way, will go to great lengths to carefully conceal their repeated indiscretions, disloyalty and naked opportunism. One might even go so far as to use the more-obvious term, 'Gold Digger'. Since it is the draw of the access to immense wealth, fame & social status, that is often the single motivating factor behind such 'courtesan'-like maneuvers of low-cunning. Good Luck to her I say. But let's not pretend that this one-sided 'wall-flower'-like portrayal of Boyd's presumed innocence, is anything more than on-going 'window dressing' in the preservation of her public narrative. Beware the Beast Within !!

Before John Lennon was murdered I used to see George Harrison a lot in Henley-on-Thames in the Seventies. He could drink in the local pubs and go about his business as normally you would if you weren't famous. This was in Henley-on-Thames where I attended a Private Boarding School.
He had an absolutely amazing aura about himself, although as a 10 year old when I saw first him (1976), it may be I was projecting that aura on to him. Who wouldn't?
He was kind, he never displayed any inflated ego or self importance.
He obviously is one of the most iconic guitarists ever in the most influential music band in the History of Modern music, but played down the fame part without having to bang his own drum. (He had Ringo to do that for him).
Now here's a bit of a link to Eric Clapton, I have (it's twice removed and a tad tenuous) but I grew up in a Town called Hatfield in Hertfordshire.
In my street a few doors down lived a young man who played guitar (I was a toddler) who went to see a show in Welwyn Garden City being performed by John Mayalls Blues Breakers at a local community centre. Eric Clapton was due to perform that evening but had car trouble and couldn't make it to the gig.
During the interval, the young man approached John Mayall and asked if he could join in the gig during the second half, essentially standing in as an understudy for Clapton.
That guy blew everyone away with his mastery of the blues.
He left the gig with his friends and didn't leave any contact details with John Mayall and by luck the young lad saw an advert in the Melody Maker magazine for a band looking for a guitarist.
That led on to the Teenager joining the Rolling Stones and his name is Mick Taylor.
The, by miles, the greatest Guitarist the Rolling Stones ever had.
