  • Lemon, our Meyer’s parrot passed away on New Year’s Eve of 2018. He was only 2 years old.
He was bitten by Bella after destroying one of her toys, something she has never done before. His regular emergency animal hospital refused to take him as the avian vet was not there at the time. Under the guidance of the vet technician, we applied pressure to his wound with cold gauzes. We did this for 3 hours until he passed away from exhaustion/ shock.
Looking back I remembered that when his blood feathers broke, it would never stop bleeding even with pressure and quickstop/ starch/ flour, and we always had to rush him to the vet to have them pulled out. I wonder if he had a clotting disorder and required surgical intervention.
My greatest regret is not letting him pass peacefully. In his last hours, I wish I held him and made him comfortable instead of forcing the medical intervention on him. At some point my gut told me that this may be the last time we are with him, but we pushed on anyway.
Accidents happen and of course he left a huge hole in our hearts. For many months I don’t think we were quite alright. There were many fights and a lot of tension in the family. In the end we did manage to march forward, with much help from our other 5 babies.
We had many videos including Lemon filmed prior to his passing. We are just not ready to watch them again right now. Please be patient with us as we are trying to gather the strength to film a new video without Lemon. We hope to release one soon.
We appreciate that you find our videos helpful, and love reading your comments and seeing how you are helping each other. It is wonderful that a small but warm and supportive community has been built around our babies. It is heartwarming and humbling just thinking about it.
Thank you so much for everything.

Sorry for your lost, I know the pain and emptiness on loosing a bird. I lost my African Grey 1 years ago, due to covid shutting the entire city down. Avian etc...all shut down and I couldn't get any help for my princess Smokey. Stay strong babe, you got this.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I have begun researching to get a parrot and have recently found your channel as well as a couple of other Canadian ones, since I live in Toronto. I will continue to watch the ones that you have already published. Just know my heart goes out to you and your family/flock. 💜
