    Feels weird years later passing through these stations 🚉

    If the flooded stairs lead to the platform, I can only imagine swimming down there.

  • @LadyAmanita
    @LadyAmanita 11 лет назад +9

    wow..To heck with the trains, if this sort of thing keeps happening, the MTA's gonna have to invest in Gondolas! But joking aside, I hope this can be fixed soon, you never realize how much you need those trains until something like this happens.

    Still incredibly creepy to watch.

  • @cdubbleyoo
    @cdubbleyoo 11 лет назад +1

    In case one doesn't comprehend, the hand rails you see at 2:17 are for the FIRST flight of stairs that lead down to the train platform. That room itself is HUNDREDS of feet long and about 20 feet high from the tracks to the ceiling. Tomb Raider. Straight up. So that's at least 40 feet of water depth before you have the ankle-deep water this camera person is wading through.
    That's a lot of fricken water.

    imagine going scuba diving in that station

    Nah but in all seriousness.this is really sad.people reall doubted this storm.people out of work and cant go back because of the train damage.people cant go back home because planes arent going nowhere.people lost homes to fires,water damage.i think most people didnt think it would do this because its new york and just seems unusual but that next one that comes everyone gonna be ready a week ahead i bet.

  • @hummingfrog
    @hummingfrog 11 лет назад +1

    If you had gone scuba diving in the station the water would have been cold, black, and muddy, and there would have been no visibility at all, even with a lamp. You would have had to navigate entirely by touch. Not exactly an afternoon reefing off the Cayman Islands!

    This is stupid. They refused to install protective measures like platform screen doors, and look what happened now.

  • @MrLucifer92

    Fun fact those mini-submarines they used exist and they are somewhat cheap when you consider that they are millitary vehicle`s(there exist a few civil versions to used in dolphin photograpy/filming movie`s underwater scenes) the suit that they use sometime cost more than the sub because of the life monitoring system some require

    The last presidential debate mentioned Israel 31 times but they can't keep the NYC subways from flooding. Our priorities really suck.

    I agree with you, BUT, the last debate was planned to be about foreign policy. As a former New Yorker (lived there 16 years) who was there during The storm of '91, I know New Yorkers are the best, & come together to help each other. Giuliani's boastful "New York: Capital of the World" was "mostly" correct. (As much as I disliked the man.)I'm concerned what happens in the financial markets come Wed. Will definitely have impact not just 4 NY, but the rest of US, and the world's economy as well.

    Every transit system in the greater NY area is like this. NJT, LIRR, Metro North, and Path are all in the same jam. Track is all messed up everything is just messed up.

  • @KillerChair1
    @KillerChair1 11 лет назад

    The entire station platforms were flooded. You can literally go scuba diving on the number 1 train platforms. That is not "nothing". This means the entire tunnel for the 1 train are flooded downtown.

    1. London Underground Jubilee Line extension
    2. Paris Metro Line 14 (1999)
    3. Tokyo Metro Namboku Line
    That's about it, I agree with the fact that it actually makes it a little worse.

  • @ryanng5877
    @ryanng5877 11 лет назад

    They probably don't exist because they all have seams between the panes between the doors, but they are supposed to wrap around the entire track to be waterproof

  • @manufactured1987
    @manufactured1987 11 лет назад

    600 feet long.
    And then there's the tunnel. A string of water 5-8 thousand feet long (two tracks) going 100 feet below sea level under a wide river. Times a dozen tunnels.
