This looks super customizable and very user friendly. I have trouble with creating drums, I'm a musician, I play guitar, piano, and I sing. I think this is just what I need. Thank you for the short tutorial!!!
This is a great overview! One thing that is often overlooked is that each sample/drum channel has its own quantization - which includes options for quintupled swing, as well as nudge to "later" or "sooner" - a la MPC3000. Instant Dilla.
Thanks for this! I already bought it based on a friend's review, but I wasn't sure how to get started. This demo was v. helpful.
Yessir ✌🏾
I’ve had XO for about 5 months and there’s lots to like. However, 8 kit pieces is a bit limiting, as a lot of alternatives have 16 parts. Also, the sequencer with only A part 16 steps and B part 16 steps, is less than the 64 steps in my DAW - and the beat combiner is a nifty feature but I’d give it up for more parts and longer sequencer steps. Lastly, I don’t think you can import patterns, so either you create your own in the sequencer, or you buy more presets that include patterns. I don’t understand the “closed” model for midi patterns, as most competitors let you import and export midi patterns freely. Don’t get me wrong, I think the XO cloud browsing and similarity swapping is excellent and I use it all the time, but when it comes to programming beats, I’m using the step sequencer and pattern regions in Logic.
work around is easy. I run instances of 2 XO to get 16 samples.I trigger them both using another sequencer. I use Geist2. on the 2nd XO I have a midi note transpose to take notes 9-16 from Geist back down to 1-8 for that instance of XO.
A really excellent demonstration of the capabilities of XLN XO Thank You
Glad it was helpful!
I recently purchased XO and I am literally blown away with it. It's a really good plugin. Some may think its a little too busy. To me it's a Knowbrainer. Thanks for sharing AL Be.
Yeah it's FIRE!
No hype, real deal drum creativity! Thanks for the overview dude.
Cool idea looks like a galaxy of samples
Yooo the way the sounds are sorted by colors is so creative! Not only does it look cool, but it’s actually incredibly intuitive and efficient
I am a massive fan of XO by XLN! Been using this for about a year now and it is game changing especially when it comes to organizing your drum samples. Just because I love to share something that I would like them to change is the ability to add more steps to the sequencer so that we could make even more drum patterns with variety Or maybe you want to create an 8 Bar Loop or a 16 Bar Loop. Food for thought! 🤘
My exact thoughts
@@thisisalbe if you know of a work around, please do share! I do think for now, I’ll stick to using it for one shots and exporting it into Logic sampler to create my sequence. Decent(ish)?

@@CAMMYSINCLAIR able to send me a video on it?
YESSIR! looks cool man! The RC-20 is something I might get in the future
It's kind of dope but best for making loops. I don't find it as helpful in the middle of making a track. I will mainly use it if I just want to make some drum loops for later...or want to build kits, stems, and loops for packaging and sharing.
Awesome video!!!! Thank you for such a good overview of the functionality.
Thanks for the feedback! I’m glad you found it helpful.
For anyone saying 8 samples isn't enough and the sequencer isn't long enough. The work around is easy. I run 2 instances of XO to get 16 samples.I trigger them both using another sequencer. Good idea!
Geist is a beast, yet so slept on.
I feel they dont develope Geist anymore?
Really well done review, thank you! liked and subbed!
Thanks for the sub!
so cool to browse a sample library in a completely new way, im about to cop this. I'd also highly recommend the plugin Addictive Keys: Electric Grand Piano also by XLN. They definitely know what they're doing over there! thanks for the review!!
great video man, look forward to seeing more : )
Yo homie XO is straight up the Shiznit! It's been my #1 goto Drum module for the past two years now. I really don't miss having a drum machine so much due to the mad flexibility of the internal sequencer. Now all I need is an MPC 3000 to trigger the sounds. The MPC for that original Akai feel.
Keep up the good work Al Be. I'm a new subscriber so I'll be checking you out.

Hey BiG Pluck I appreciate the feedback. Yeah I enjoyed using it. My only gripe is I wish you could make a longer sequence!
@@thisisalbe Well you could drag the track out as a MIDI file into your DAW, analyze the quantization and go on from there using XO as a slave. Or playing XO from your DAW's MIDI.
This is the best XO walkthrough on RUclips! You have a great style of explaining XO with choice words and references 😁
whoa!!! AKA "YESSIR"
It’s amazing and super deep
ayoooo
Just bought this plugin. Been using atlas 2 for a long time and thought I would see if XO was any better. But question: you mentioned about selling samples/loops. Is there money in that? The market seems to be heavily saturated....
YESSIR, there is indeed a blanket behind you.
Cold world 🥶
amazing the way you made it so simple to use ..Great Content XO Fire
Damn! I'm getting this rn!
I have been pondering getting this using the “rent to own” service on splice. I’m also a student at “point blank school of music” so I get a student discount!!
After this I am for sure going to check it out.
Yessir!
@@thisisalbe bought it and love it. Thanks for the video to help me make up my mind.
Dope-ness Just what I've been looking for.
Great video and awesome plugin!! 🙂
Thank you for this incredible video !
Quick question : I am facing a problem with xo : when i export processed samples (with effects applied in xo, for exemple filters or pitch correction), the volume of the exported samples never matches the volume directly heard from XO (from output busses), even with the differents normalization settings. This is very annoying as I usually tweak the sounds and mix them within XO before exporting them. I was wondering if you came across this issue and if you found a way to correct it ?
Thank you if you take time to answer :)
Thankyou, i looked at quite a few options including DM but your concise and clear explanation has made my mind up! You did a better overview than XLN did.YESSIR
Great review man. Thanks! ❤
YW! Thanks for the comment.
You had me at 4:40. Just bought it.
Awesome mate!
Great video! Thank you 😀
really good tutorial
A lot has changed since the days of the Yamaha RX5 or the LinnDrum Machine....I wonder what Roger thinks of this product.
If you find a sample (colored dot) you really like, what's the fastest way to load that sample into one of XO's 8 channels on the far left? I tried right-clicking and a few other techniques but nothing is working yet.
Thank you sir
How I can change pattern to another one...or IT works only one pattern per song?
Can you drum using keyboard with this???
Awesome video!
Thanks for the feedback!
Have you tried out Atlas 2 from Argonaut? It's really hard to choose between the two (Atlas and XO. Both really awesome.
Not yet!
IT is cool, but it lacks some details like envelopes, fine tuning stuff, like filter movement per hit, fine tune so to make beat more organic
I liked it, just found the premade patterns to be all a little too busy and unusable in the context of a real song. They're very 'show-offy". Would have prefered simpler ones that inspire me to decorate more percussion around etc etc.
This is awesome feedback! I think that's exactly how I felt too. Just need something to set a vibe / bounce then let you take it from there.
Had this thought some time ago. This programs and music pattern algorithms always are often so busy overloaded and when you listen closer to a professional musician you notice they use their drums pretty purposefully and carefully. Less is more. But anyway it’s up to you what you make of the beat suggestions. This app is so well designed and powerful. Can’t wait to load my addictive drums and native instruments sounds in it.
YESSIR
Does XO work with drum loops as well?
thanks 😉
if you pull out the stems 11:30 are they processed or raw?
Powerful Sample Browser. But everything is SO lacking.
Only 2 swing settings?
Can shift ms per step? (Locked robotic)
No parameters to shape effects? Lol
I would have to export the midi to really work. To apply proper sound shaping. I can go on....
So ya its an awesome sample browser. But doesnt come close to GEIST 1 or 2 ...or even my DAW
If geist had this same features as extra, it would be hard to beat it
YESSIR👉👈
🙌🏾
can i do fast hats
can this, creat a beat for me, if i have little to no experience?
Nah it can't make a beat for you but it can get your drums started for a beat. I would find a sample or something if you're brand new and then add drums to it.
does it also uses samples that are within other drum libraries somewhere on my PC like "Superior Drummer" etc? Because within XO I never gave "admission" to that but it directly shows me a lot of samples. Not sure which one are all included?
We can only do 4/4 time signature, what a deception...
That’s every sequencer? 🤣
That's true, that's why I never liked FL Studio built in drum sequencer
Ableton had triplets from the beginning, and divisions of 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, 16, 24, 32, 64, etc
FL only had 4, 8, and 16 just like most drum sequencers
But remember, XO let's you export the midi drum pattern into your DAW, where you can edit it further and do odd time signatures
The band Imagine Dragons uses triplets
and Irish music also uses triplets, and so do other ethnic music genres, they all use odd time signatures.
But XO is focusing on mainstream genres who all use 2 and 4.
Which is fine, because mainstream genres of music are the genres we need to make if we want to make more money, since mainstream genres are the most popular genres that people listen to and buy concert tickets to.
If you want to succeed in the music industry, you have to make some hit songs in 4/4 time signature, because 4/4 is what most people dance to.
Dance music sells the most.
@@vincent3060Dated info. 😂
Aw missed out on the 50% off. Snoozed
Antwon Burg
Yes it s amazing, but you can't play these samples in a real time.
And this is a biggest mistake by XO
Lame. Try Atlas
Dang 😩I will but can you give me some insight why you like Atlas better? Mans just said lame with no context.
@@thisisalbe There is no context needed bro. But, XO is just a copy of Atlas. Atlas has so much more opportunities. Try the demo.
@@101Licious Oh I got you. I will check it out maybe make a comparison video. Appreciate the info.
@@thisisalbe If you do a comparison video, pls let me know.
Seems pretty barebones. Why is everyone recommending this?
It fits most people’s needs 🤷🏽♂️What more would you like to see in it?
Something behind 4x4 beats, randomisation, drum fill programming. 🤷
