This in-depth guide has completely changed the way I see and use XO. Feels like I have a whole new VI to work with. And yes, the MIDI export function is the key to keeping it fresh; a different fill every time, or building/layering as the track progresses. So good - Thanks!
XO felt already like my favorite drum tool. But thx to your fantastic walkthrough I just realized, what a beast this plugin really is.
THX!
Wow man... SUPERB TUTORIAL!!. Maybe one of the longest and best explained of all I have seen.
Thank you so much for taking such time to show us the functioning of this amazing plug in.
One thing you didn't mention was that you can also use the exported MIDI on XO instead of a different drum sampler. That way you're also not limited to a/b variations. Basically you just use your DAW once you're done creating your drumloop in XO - which helps especially with genres that rely less on repeating drum sequences.
Besides that, amazing guide! Truly a deep dive, thank you for that! :)
It looks like it's limited to 2 bars via the AB feature. How would I create a 4 bar sequence? (the AB and AAAB feature is too limited) Am I limited to composing 2 bar patterns? If you export MIDI then you're back to using new samples aren't you?
@TheAisleOfPlenty I dunno if you ever got an answer to this, but you can actually use xo as a midi player.
So you can use it as a sampler and just create beats in your piano roll.
What I do with it is find an a/b to get things rolling and then I'll export that as midi with all tracks routed out Indiviually. And as the track goes I will edit and tweak those settings. Maybe make some fills in xo and then bounce those out.
So I use XO to find samples and get a starting spot set up with my groove, then I turn off its auto play and start making my own beats using what I made in xo as a starter.
I actually have my main template in reaper come with XO already routed out to all 8 tracks so I don't hace to map everything every time
At first I thought the sequencer was too limited, then yesterday I started playing with it and realized it's a great starting point for getting a fun groove going. Then, you drag and drop the MIDI into your DAW for proper composition. Great stuff in this plugin. I ended up adding all of Maschine's sample folders into XO and I'm having a blast.
Yeah, it's a really complete plugin. You can do a lot of things, what if find great is that you can get something really usable by fooling around with the controls, and you get something cool almost every time. It's hard to make it sound bad.
@@XNBeatsMusic how about comparing with atlas?
this is the most inspirational plugin ive ever seen and an infinite source for new drums and midi

I love the Spinal Tap reference when you turn the crunch up all the way on the master.
Never thought someone will mention Spinal tap. I need to re watch it. Classic.
Best tutorial teacher I've ever heard. Subbed. Perfect job. More please!
Great overview. I have used XO as my primary drum module for more than two years and still learned a few things.
Thanks Alex :)

Perfect ! Excellent tutorial ! Exactly what I needed👍✨
Game changer. I was just thinking about how unbelievable some of these tools are. We truly live in a time of everything being at our finger tips. If you want it bad enough, there is no reasons why you cant create the music of your dreams.
One of the best tutorials I've seen in my life
Damn, thanks !!!! Glad you liked it :)

Thanks for the comment !! :) XO is a great tool.
Fantastic job! Incredibly helpful. Really expands the way to think about and use XO. Thanks!
Been using this for a few months as my main drum sequencer. I watched this video before buying it and wanted to come back and watch it fresh after working with XO for a few months to see if i missed anything. Great video wicked helpful. I just wish the XO packs were a little more affordable for me cause making my own presets is time consuming
Excellent Tutorial! Great stuff for an indept tour into the plugin. Well worth the hour it takes to watch it all but in the end it will safes you so much time. Thanx a million ;)
Thanks so much for taking the time 🍻🥇❤️
Thanks for that. Your tutorials are some of the best
Absolutely. I’ve learned a bunch on this channel over the last few months!
Excellent tuitorial. Thanks!!
Amazing plugin and amazing explanation... Thank you !!
Really appreciate the time and effort you have made creating this video, thank you
great tut
Got this plugin today, you've been a great help, thanks a lot and I'm now subb'd.
Thank you for this great tutorial!
I'm still trying to figure out whether this thing can handle anything other than 4/4. Is the sequence length always set at 16 steps? Does that always map to one bar in the DAW? How would the 5/4 and 7/4 grooves be used? Is it possible to use 3/4? So many questions...
Great video once again. Since you also covered the beatstep pro, how do you feel about this plug in controlled by the BSP?
Great stuff XNB keep it up and comin .... Greets Thx for sharing your knowledge :)
thanks man. I'll try to keep it up.
Fantastic! Cheers for a great tutorial - really useful to me that
just bought the plugin and this tutorial was very helpful frm start to end, thanks for the great work on this!

This is an outstanding tutorial. Thank you Sir
That was a perfect tutorial. Thank you!
Crazy, hope they keep it going into synths and bass n stuff…we’ll maybe it does…fingers crossed
1:06:25 is it still same when you change preset XO also change samples?
I simply cannot thank you enough! SO appreciated!!!!!!!
WOW MAN! THANKS! You are in the top of the list of best producer tutorials maker bro;)
Which computer do u use? Pc? Mac? Please if you can do a tutorial on your computer and audio optimization i would be so greatful mate!!
Hey, thanks !! Well the plugins is fantastic.... Well, if you want good sound and processing power. There is not much to explain, you need to spend money. Good interface, good cables ( you wouldn't believe how much a cheap cable takes our of you source signal ), 16 ram minimum. But the most important thing is the Processor. I don't use laptops anymore because they always underperform after a couple of year or less.
Learned to build PC's so I don't have to pay anyone and make my own upgrades when I needed. Best investment I made in years, learning to do that.
@@XNBeatsMusic thanks 4 all this knowledge bro! Can you send me the spec so i will have a reffernce? Which audio interface?
@@floatinganarchychannel3204 RME are among the best.
@@Hexspa thanks bro
Excellent overview - Thank you so much!

This tutorial is GOATED
this guide is true one.THNX a lot
Now I know how powerful XO, thanks!
Powerful indeed :). THanks for the comment.
you are an absolute god.
Man thanks for this amazing tutorial well explained 👍🔥🙏
Finished watching it. Overall good primer course. Cheers
Thanks !!! The plugin is great it deserved a good guide.
Brilliant...how would you use XO with odd meter beats...say 3/4, 5/4 or even 11/4 for example...anyone?
I am just uncovering the possebility's with XO when layering them you get really magical with automation
Wow amazingly useful and well delivered ! Thank you.
dammm this was so much intresting to watch Thanks you, I watched full video
most useful thank you!
Thanks for the comment :)
Great video. My host sync button won't light up. Ableton Live 11 is my DAW. Any help greatly appreciated. Wonderful resource, best for XO. Thank u.
Great video. This was a huge help. TY
super helpful walkthrough! Thanks!!
Thanks for making this. I have XO and I’m barely touching the surface
Thank you for this nice tutorial. One thing I was missing: How do you deal with the limitation of only two patterns? What is your workflow to get around this?
Just go back to the Beat Combiner choose a new beat (random or programmed) and export it. You can always go back to your original sample if you dont safe it.
Nice thank
Thanks for the great tutorial and reference.
Thanks !! I really put myself to work on this one.
Awesome - thanks 🙏🙂
Extensive & brilliant !!
Brilliant!
Thanks for making this, it will help me make more or less when to buy it. Priorities and such.
So Good. You are a great legend. Thanks!
Thanks !!! I really enjoyed making this guide, it is a great plugin.
Good video. What if you want to play your beat and not step sequence it in?
Hey...you mean using it with midi ? I don't remember, because I dont use it that Way...But i thinks it works like a drum machine, you can put your midi clip and it will recognize the midi. Not entirely sure, but I think I did that once.
You can just hook up a controller. It maps the kit two octaves down from middle C. If you have MIDI in your DAW, it'll play that but make sure XO's local playback is off or it'll play both the DAW MIDI as well as whatever sequence that might be programmed into XO's sequencer.
@@Hexspa Do you know if there's a way to map the MIDI the way I want? For example, if I'd like to assign my snare to be C2 instead of D1.
@@drezar I don't think so. With MDrummer from Melda you can remap midi. You'll probably need to use an external plugin or just make a new kit with the samples in the slots you want them. That seems like a good feature to add to the context menu so I suggest emailing xln with your idea.
that was completed thanks u Bro. but i have a question for example if i need to make a different compas like 6/8 how can i do it
great tutorial!
Brilliant tutorial❤
incredible video!
Thanks, I really went to work on this one :)
Awesome video. I've had it for about a day and I'm surprised I already knew as much as I did. But you filled in ALL the gaps, so I really feel like there is nothing I'm missing. Can you recommend any good sample packs to add to this if you like more acoustic sounding drum samples and 80s sounding stuff?
Hey, yeah, te interface is intuitive but you need to dig a bit more to know the tiny parts.... oh, no I use superior drummer 3 for realistic drum samples. Thanks for the comment.
@@XNBeatsMusic thanks. Yeah, I use EZD3 and Superior too. Maybe I’ll just sample some of the hits and put them into XO!
Really Imformative.
Many thanks!
Thank you
Thank you back for the comment :)
this is the best XO guide!
Is there a way to navigate or sort patterns by genre? how do I find i.e. lofi patterns?
super video 🤌🤌
Мужик, ты крут!
wow, that was well explained.
Hi! Is there a possibility to extract or export all samples to .wav in one go? Rather than one by one (or 8-sample-drumkit) drag'n'dropping? That would be cool, because I don't want to use the sequencer, which limits me down to create my own drum tracks in Cubase. Thanks!
Thanks few bits I'd missed 👍
Hey boss. Thanks for the tutorial. Is it possible to tag samples to other categories if XO has analyzed in wrongly? For example, a sound might be in the kick category while it's really a snare.
Can you tune the key of the drums?
Its the best !!!!!!!!!!
Yes I am the BEST !! ...... wait you were talking about me right ? :)
@@XNBeatsMusic Yes you did a good job , still in love with Xo
Thanks
Thank you for this incredible video !
Quick question : I am facing a problem with xo : when i export processed samples (with effects applied in xo, for exemple filters or pitch correction), the volume of the exported samples never matches the volume directly heard from XO (from output busses), even with the differents normalization settings. This is very annoying as I usually tweak the sounds and mix them within XO before exporting them. I was wondering if you came across this issue and if you found a way to correct it ?
Thank you if you take time to answer :)
Fantastic tutorial - thanks so much!
This thing has been on my radar for a while. What's putting me off is that I like to experiment with time signatures... it looks like this is not only limited to 16-beat bars but also only two patterns per preset. Am I right? I know you can export the MIDI and work within the DAW, but then you lose the amazing features that live in XO like the beat combiner and the accentuator etc. It's a bit frustrating that there's so much packed into it, yet it has those limitations.
TKS, GREAT !!!!
Great tutorial! One question: is there a way to cycle through different drum patterns WITHOUT changing the sounds? Would be cool to be able to select your sounds and then toggle between different patterns with those samples.
