Just for me the new album I feel like he stepped it up a notch. Lol he’s the 2nd best drummer behind buddy rich but hey you can never go wrong with this guy. He just blows me away still after almost 30 of listening to theses guys.
Getting to hear this song in concert was a religious experience. The moment where the song relaxes in the middle and builds up again, combined with the lightshow and the energy of the crowd was amazing. Never had a moment like it in a concert.
You can see him playing one rhythm with his left hand, another rhythm with his right hand and another with his foot... Oc-to-pus Rex is all I gotta say.

My life was complete the day I saw TOOL in 2006 at The Palace. Well, semi-complete...my kids came later. And now I can share this with them. Life is amazing. Happy New Year, everyone.
I feel like this is a big Justin song, the bass carries a good portion of this. Justin is unreal, but this entire band as a whole doesn't outshine eachother

His dexterity with all four limbs is absolutely crazy! They haven't recorded an album in 13 years and he comes out playing his best on this album!! He's unbelievable!
Digging the reactions man. I'm closer to 40 than I am 30, and Tool were recommended to me all my life...somehow I didn't check them out until about 3 months ago. Never heard anything like them. One of those bands that change the way you hear and feel music. Slainte.
Watch any of the greats, they know their kit and placement of each tom and cymbal with their eyes closed, it really becomes instinctual after a while, playing the kit is the funnest instrument a musician can experiment with, as Danny most often does, without you even noticing.

This is my third time watching. Such a treat! It’s definitely my favorite song off FI. I got to see them at the right time. They played in Portland, OR the night before our governor put a ban on gatherings of 250 or more. The number has been dramatically reduced since then. So thankful!
Their Lateralus tour was epic, far surpassing any live performances before or after, it was the first time witnessing the blending of Alex' artwork and visuals with their playing, pure wizardry.

Mr. Danny Carey is a huge basketball fan. That's why he wears a jersey every show (usually a jersey to represent the city where they are playing). He actually turned down a basketball scholarship in college to pursue music. Thank the octopus gods that he did.

I saw this a few days ago, really amazing. There is a youtuber (Johnkew) who does Tool drum covers. There's some of his videos that looks crazy hard. What impresses me is how drummers can keep different rythms on all of their limbs.. =)
8:24 I get it dude. The short staccato hits of the guitar and lyrics create tension throughout the song. Then 8:24 hits and its just release. It's so crazy how music pinches your heart.
You should watch the video of him playing along to lateralus. That video is what made me want to play drums and made him my favorite drummer. At the end he talks about how he tunes his drums and what that kits was made of. It was made of melted down paiste cymbals. It was pretty awesome.

It's taken from several different live performances with multiple angles, overlayed with the studio recording and synced to the video. It's really well done and definitely worth your time. It gives you an idea of their concert set up and shows how Maynard sings and plays from the shadows.✌🤘🤘

When I watch this video I use to think at one very important fact. One thing is be able to play this track for example, but another one extremely different is to CREATE something like this. we should be honored to be contemporaneous with this masterpiece called tool. ❤ Saludos desde Argentina
at parts like 11:00 the trick to that technique is basically to hit the drum and have just enough resistance to the rebound that you hit it again quickly after. Thats how he manages those quick pairs without alot of movement. (source: I've been a drummer for 12 years)
Daney Carey is a serious weapon. Best there is. Once the pandemic is under control you need to get to a gig Drew. This Tempest and Jambi were master pieces at the Brisbane (Aus) gig.

unlike most lifelong drummers his age, Danny plays in a semi pro basketball league, he has no tendonitis, no belly, doesn't do or has never done drugs, contrary to what most think. What's really funny is there is an actual quote from him saying "My drum parts aren't actually that hard to play"
@@capo_di_capi He has done acids before but hasn't in the last 10 years or so. He has never done drugs that cause addiction or that mess with health. All the guys in Tool have never done those kind of drugs. Just psychedelics and some pot I think.
@@thebatman1482 Danny once told me, while sitting right beside him, that one thing Tool will never give up is their complete privacy, and what is said to the public is mostly to just let fans make up their own minds, so if you think they did a lot of drugs, they don't care what fans think about rumours.....idk maybe you've noticed?, Tool like to play games with their fans.
@@capo_di_capi No they never did A LOT of drugs, they just had their experiences I think. Adam and Danny both confirmed that on podcasts in very friendly conversations so I don't think that they were lying, they just have done that a few times probably, but still they have said multiple times that you must have responsibility and control over what you do. BTW I'm quite envious of the fact that you met Danny, he is an absolute hero.
Around 9:50 you can see Maynard switch from one side of the stage to the other behind Danny. Saw them in New Orleans last month and yes, it was this good.😍

@@capo_di_capi He has done acids before but hasn't in the last 10 years or so. He has never done drugs that cause addiction or that mess with health. All the guys in Tool have never done those kind of drugs. Just psychedelics and some pot I think.
@@thebatman1482 Danny once told me, while sitting right beside him, that one thing Tool will never give up is their complete privacy, and what is said to the public is mostly to just let fans make up their own minds, so if you think they did a lot of drugs, they don't care what fans think about rumours.....idk maybe you've noticed?, Tool like to play games with their fans.
@@capo_di_capi No they never did A LOT of drugs, they just had their experiences I think. Adam and Danny both confirmed that on podcasts in very friendly conversations so I don't think that they were lying, they just have done that a few times probably, but still they have said multiple times that you must have responsibility and control over what you do. BTW I'm quite envious of the fact that you met Danny, he is an absolute hero.
To me Maynard sounds really flat in parts of this live version, which is really odd
Around 9:50 you can see Maynard switch from one side of the stage to the other behind Danny. Saw them in New Orleans last month and yes, it was this good.😍
