@@getoverit3773 Install your new AMD card and go through this process the same but clearing the Nvidia when asked. It will still clear it down.
So many people have issues because they don't know to DDU before switching cards (especially when switching between AMD/nVidia). Great video, very helpful

@@TechLabUK Can't you just do a regular uninstall of the drivers?
Worked for me twice as I swapped back and forth.
@@Armendicus sometimes it’s fine. Sometimes it’s not. DDU just does a complete clear down.

Great video, very easy to understand and follow. There is an easier way to get into safe mode though. If you hold the Shift key while clicking the reset button, the computer will take you straight to the Troubleshoot step of your guide. Not a huge difference but it does save 4-5 clicks.

I went from nvidia to amd today actually. I picked up a used 6800 for cheap and did this driver cleaner. Worker like a charm. Now I have amd drivers and am very happy. I’ll fine tune it to get maximum performance

thanks for the vid. been on nvidia since my 1060 3gb, currently on 3070 and just got a deal on an asrock 6800xt. didnt want to do a complete PC reset and this way should work great. i'm not into raytracing and the 16gb of vram should keep me gaming for a while. side note: liked checking the other comments and noticed most recent gamers switching from nvidia to amd cards. not sure if it was due to cost/value or performance, but all seem happy following your tutorial. great job.

I built my computer a couple of years ago, and like your son, just couldn't afford a new gpu at the time. I've been running a GTX 1060 for years without too many problems, but it's finally showing its age. I cracked and bought a new card a couple of weeks ago, deciding to switch to a MSI AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT (since I run an AMD cpu on a MSI board already). Obviously, I have no problems messing with hardware, but I was unsure about the software side, as I'm switching brands. Very glad I found this video, and I've finally got the free time to do the install and set up. Thank you!

@@TechLabUK Thank you! I'm excited to see all the frames I've been missing! 😄 The upgrade is now done, and I followed your directions. I did run into one problem; when trying to boot into safe mode to use DDU, the screen would stay black, and would never give me the option to choose safe mode. After doing some searching, I found a post by another person that had this problem. Turns out, safe mode on Windows 10 doesn't like HDMI connections. Luckily, I still had my old monitor that has a DVI connection. Disconnected my good monitor, connected the old one, and was able to boot into safe mode to uninstall my old nVidia drivers. Everything else went smoothly, even though I had to open the other side of my computer to attach the dual 8pin cable to my PSU (I have a semi-modular 750w). Gave me a chance to do a dust up, so bonus, clean computer.

No Problem. It's a pretty good utility for making sure everything is cleared down correctly. Saves a lot of time as well :)
Thank you so much, I was thinking about returning my 6600 XT which I only got around last week, Playing games like PUBG would be completely unplayable from the constant 5-10 second freezes and then stutters on top of that, And now after doing this I could play with 0 freezes but a little stutter here and there from loading assets in the game.

What step did you miss in your install that fixed the stutter?
Literally was about to be me have mine installed and booted it up and was like crap I still have NVIDIA on here Ty for commenting what happened in the situation tho seriously thought my new 6600 was about to be done for
@@youngsnitch1915 it wouldn't have damaged it, would've just heavily limited it, and you'd get bugs and all that
I am extremely knew to computer and this video helped me so much to upgrade my first card. I haven't even tested it yet it's still finishing installing everything but this was so much help esp with taking it out lol thank you

Great video accept you need to switch the order of the phases because the only people that will have issues are the ones switching brands that didn't uninstall the previous drivers.

This helped a lot. Only thing i would add is that you can right click the background and then display settings to change the resolution while you are downloading the new AMD driver. Went from an nvidia 1080 to a 7800. That older card was starting to give me issues. So i am giving it to my brother for hoever much longer life it has left.

Thanks man. Just upgraded my PC GPU from Nvidia GTX 1070ti to AMD 6800xt. Uninstalled the Nvidia driver using DDU then changes the GPU and then downloads the AMD driver. No issues so far.

@@AnonymousSpidey any tips for me so my current gpu “went out” from it falling and I’m looking to buy a Nvidia card today but I can’t uninstall the drivers since my current gpu is yk not working so will I be fine even if I just switch gpus without removing the drivers?
@@slumberslime6540 You would have to get the same gpu as the the drivers because even know the old one gave out you wouldnt be able to just plug and play sadly so if you had a amd card you would have to go with AMD

Most of the time it's just plug n play as drivers don't load on hardware that doesn't match the Hardware IDs and once you make the swap just remove any software and drivers you aren't going to use has worked for me and i've switched between brands back and forth quite alot

Do i need to uninstall any Nvidia software or does ddu do this automatically? By this i mean software such as geforce experience etc..
Is it possible for DDU to go wrong and cause the computer to be unable to boot? Im a little concerned about that as its my first time using a AMD card :)

DDU should remove everything from the GPU selected. DDU can't go wrong but sometimes systems wont display with the new cards until you reset the cmos on the motherboard. Seems rare but just in case.

the other day i switched from 1050ti to rx590 and i’ve been having lots of problems, i didn’t ddu until after i installed the new amd drivers.
Try reinstalling Amd drivers.
