    As a quick note. In the video I mentioned you can't remove items from shopping lists. If you create an automation using wildcards and the sentence trigger - you can achieve removing and completing lists.

      I have no clue and I guess a lot noobs either. I got an error since yesterday after the upgrade I simply clicked on cause in the past 3 months since I had restarted a new ha installation I must have had luck with not issues after the update.
      This time it was the opposite and if way the psyscript or so. I went to github 2 times, no ones else complained, so I wrote my message with log and what not till somebody replied with the hint which version. I had instantly thought: the right one of cause
      every time I got a notfication about updates i had done them carefully with a backup first, update and usually a restart to make sure it is in proper state.
      But what I have not know and i guess many others too is that HACs has no notification about its updates. You only can get behind it like i did when I visit the HACS pane today and the suddenly 3 more updates I had not seen before.
      Might be worth to remind people in case of an update to check all other integrations cause these upgrades had been there as preparation for the 2023.08 release .
      Maybe you know how to get the notification right that even hacs will appear in that centrall notification sport or somewhere else.
      First I was a bit disappointed cause all the nightmare 2 years ago seem to come back cause back then 2 updates of HA had killed my installation or were too much for me to sort it out and I had given up back then.

    I have done HA 2 years ago quite intensively and when the update killed my installation with all the errors I gave up for 2 years, but now i am back
    back as a noob.
    But I guess xiaomi integration cause further than the scale alone, that body fat and what not scale. I have found out that
    Dimmer Switch 359C (YLKG07YL/YLKG08YL) seems to work too if you have found out whatever key I have had no time to find out.
    At least this one appears and was not really mentioned in the documentation I had found. Might be worth to remember too.

    Looking forward to integrations like Reolink switching to using events rather than entities for things. I just hope that there is a transition period where it does both but has a warning to switch over rather than just a breaking change and entities just stop working. It makes so much more sense for a doorbell press to be an event rather than an entity IMO. What is everyone else's favorite feature in this months release?

  • @adibbins
    @adibbins 11 месяцев назад +1

    A new feature release is always welcome, however isn't it time for a stable/reliable LTS version, as every new release seems to break existing features or plugins, e;g; the tp-link kasa smart plugin seems to be broken, what about a slow down in development and concentration on stability?

  • @MAMDAVEM
    @MAMDAVEM 11 месяцев назад +2

    Mark I was hoping that you were going to say more about the MQTT breaking changes. I usually check the breaking changes but normally they don't have a big impact on me. However when I updated to 2023.8 it highlighted problems with the naming of all my MQTT entities. So for the first time I rolled back to the previous release whilst I find out what I need to to do with over 30 MQTT entities that HomeAssistant has a problem with. I am using the Zigbee2MQTT integration., am I the only one with an issue here?

    • @timbo8000
      @timbo8000 11 месяцев назад

      I had the same experience as you but I didn't roll-back because it won't become a problem for a few months yet. I think it's something that Zigbee2MQTT have to fix but the linked documentation wasn't much help so who knows? @MarkWattTech do you know what's going on and what we have to do or not do?

    • @MarkWattTech
      @MarkWattTech  11 месяцев назад +1

      Hey both. The issues are just a warning for now and they will be fixed in the September update for Zigbee2Mqtt. This is the addon update (not HA update).
      You are safe to continue and just ignore the issue for now. It won’t have any effects.

    One new feature that has just recently been fleshed out is the ability to cut, copy and paste any trigger, condition or action to any part of an automation or script. This has made things WAY EASIER when testing and editing your automations. It was also adopted after I made a feature request to the developers (my first successful feature bid!) so to those who would like a new feature incorporated into Home Assistant, don't hesitate to drop them in the suggestion box because our awesome devs do read them and will get around to ticking off the most useful ones relatively quickly 🤩

      One of the best things about HA is how community driven it is and how down to earth the developers are 👌🏻

      @@MarkWattTech The cut copy and paste feature has been such a time saver. What used to take 13 steps now takes just two plus you can now very easily reproduce an input select inside a Choose action.

    Be honest mark. This are not significant changes. A video was not really needed and so far this year it’s a lot of things that might be interesting for nerds, but not for normal users. The voice thing is a waste of time. There is no hardware for it and nobody will really use it. Make a video about that

    • @matthewmalpeli
      @matthewmalpeli 11 месяцев назад +1

      I have to agree here. One of the things that spurred me on to use home assistant was the near uselessness of Google's nest speakers and assistant. I only ever say the magic words when I need a countdown for a stew or clarification on a factoid.
      I might be persuaded to make more of Assist if there was a clear instructional pathway for adding a microphone and speaker to my ESP32 dev boards littered around my apartment but so far my search has produced nada

    • @MarkWattTech
      @MarkWattTech  11 месяцев назад +3

      This video (as with all my update videos) are 5 features that I personally like in the update. It’s not a coverage of the whole update. If they make an update where I don’t like some features then I won’t cover it 😂.
      As for the voice stuff there isn’t any hardware (yet 👀 - watch this space) but this really is just the beginning.
      The features and services that are being added might currently sound boring or just interesting for nerds but they are important foundations for what’s coming. Take the change to service call responses for example.
