So happy to see NAS option for backups. The work-arounds never worked for me
Works really well natively!
Only works in hastío. Not in docker, I am disappointed
Love to see the network storage-integration (although I recently upgraded my standard disk to a bigger SSD because I thought this wouldn’t happen anytime soon 😅). Thanks for giving us a good overview of an exciting new release 🙏🏻😊
Can't go wrong with an SSD upgrade 😅 thanks!
Thanks for this update on the update!!! I am looking forward to attaching NAS storage, drag and drop will be really useful for when picking the wrong setup. The cleaner look and showing more relevant information is very helpful.
Thanks for watching!
Great video as always Lewis! I'd love to see you do a video on how to setup NAS storage and use it with Frigate and/or Plex
Appreciate that, will look into it!
@@EverythingSmartHome Please include Unraid setup as well.
Brilliant!
I'm just in the middle of setting up Frigate so this is a God-send if it works!
That's why I'm not mad about paying the cloud access each month. It's worth the money when we see all the features added and changes made keeping Home Assistant constantly evolving in the good way.
How much is the cloud asses?
Maybe this has nothing to do with your video, but:
I simply just love how you explain things on how to do this and that in Home Assistant! You go over it rather fast, so fast that I many times have to pause the videos many many times so that I can see what I need to do.
And that is a super great thing! Many other youtubers, most of them I've stumbled upon, go so slow that I can hear myself ageing and see my gray hairs come to light. On top of that many of them even take their time on their slow videos even more to ask for likes and subscription. Maybe you do that also, but if you do then your as fast about it like everything else. And if you do that, then I didn't notice.
And this crap from others: "You can download my code so you don't have to read it from the screen, link is below" and then its behind a fu***ng paywall!
That kinds of thing are not here, thank you!
I simply subscribed because how good and fast you describe what you're doing. Thank you for that, and please don't change that!
Sincerely, a Home Assistant armature.
Appreciate the kind words and glad you like the content 🙏🏻 thanks for watching!
Awesome update and video Lewis!
Next up, ability to group automations. I want it! I need it!
I still think it'll happen 👀
As always Lewis, thanks for the video!
And as always, thanks for watching 😅
finally the integrations are not hyper crappy
I saw the NFS entry in the 10.0 Home Assistant OS release notes but could not find a good way to make use of it. Great they got it into the GUI, will try to update it this weekend and see if it can be used with Frigate. My main reason for wanting it.
OMG the integrations page is SOOOOOOOO much better.
That's amazing. Can you do a video about how they're financing everything and who is programming all this nice stuff?
The persistent notification breaking change is a big one. Not being able to reference persistent notifications in automations by default.
Классное видео, каждый раз жду новых видео с нетерпением. Лайк!
I have HA in a docker container, I just upgraded to 2023.6.0 and when I go into System there is no storage.
Oddly mine didn't restart after installing the update, just told me I needed to. When I tried a normal HA restart it didn't seem to want to so ended up doing a machine restart which seems to have gone OK... 🤞
DateTime looks exciting. Finally something close to cron functionality. May be the end of Simple Scheduler addon.
Agreed, sounds useful!
I'm running HA in docker on CasaOS on a Zimaboard. I updated to the HA version supplied in the CasaOS "apps". Now, I no longer have access to the Remote UI Configuration in HA, several integrations won't load (smartthings), etc. The new version of HA says it needs Python 3.11. How do I update this on the stock CasaOS running on a Zimaboard? Or is this something that Icewhale needs to do to their provided "app-list" version of HA?
for some reson 2023.6.1 refuse to install any ideas
nice ltt shirt :)
Does the NAS feature mean that I can switch from using OpenMediaVault with HA running as a docker container to fully running HA OS and setup my NAS through HA? If so - awesome!
HA OS will not spin up a NAS by itself. You'll need an external NAS or an instance of OMV.
@@B-a_s-H ah okay, thanks for the clarification!
Do you know of a Home Assistant for Dummies type of learning guide? I am debating whether to go the route of Apple Home, HA or something else. Previously I used Amazon and various separate apps and I had a mess on my hands. TIA.
This release had two breaking changes that got me; the first time that has happened. The Command Line YAML configuration has moved error was particularly annoying and caught me by surprise.
NAS!! This is a good day :D
GLORIOUS
does the matter integration finally support thermostats now?
I don't think so. That's something I was hoping for in this release as well but I haven't found anything in the release notes about it.
Love the network storage, I will stick with the google backups plug-in as it’s saved my ass more than once.
having a backup location would be awesome. For me, no worky.
Love the t-shirt
Me too!!
Yes yes yes! storage integration is one I've been waiting for for a while, super nice!
Me too! 🙌🏻
At 4:55 you have a typo haha. You mention "2023.5 - Shows" (for unsupported) and "2023.5 - Shows" (for supported) when I believe you mean "2023.6 - Shows". Just lettin you know.
I am really looking forward to a local wake word engine.
That'll be cool!
Glad to see that they have made changes to the previously unusable light dialog
Unusable is a bit of a stretch 😜 but it's a nice addition for sure
0:53
I'm listening while doing something else, and this moment makes me realize that "a NAS" and "an ass" sound very much the same.
Haha I thought the same when I was editing 😂
NICE.
🙌🏻
I may just be dumb here, but could someone very kindly show me how to enter details for connecting my backup folder to a shared folder on. my Mac? No matter what I try, I can't seem to get it to connect.
I was so excited about this update that I ran to update my instance, only to find that 2023.6 isn't GA yet. 😢
Check again 😅
Goos job Lewis. Sadly HA is regressing towards what Google ,Alexa, Smarthings have done years ago with all the UI and voice focus which really is remote controlled home. Having to build an automation for every single desired action for a device of a certain type rather than a matrix based ,self replicating and lerning neural network automation engine is dissapointing. I would build it myself if I knew how 😂 . Maybe node Red is the answer .
I do all my automation in nodered, I use HA only as an input/output dashboard, for which it is excellent
Hey Lewis, Been trying to setup my qnap and I keep getting a mount error any ideas? I have qnap sensor yaml setup and that works fine
What's the error? 😅
@@EverythingSmartHome hey thanks for getting back. The error probably help..lol "Mounting JZNAS_Share did not succeed. Check host logs for errors from mount or systemd unit mnt-data-supervisor-mounts-JZNAS_Share.mount for details." trying to use Samba share for it.
And what about the real error under the logs it mentioned? 👀😅
@@EverythingSmartHome That's just it I have no clue don't see anything like it even after digging around on QNAP and HA
HA Host finally showed this, maybe I wasn't quick enough to look there at first

Automatically vs automagically?
Question for this Community - I run a lot of my devices off wifi (Connected Kasa Plugs, Wiz Lights mostly) and starting to get device drops on the few plugs, then every few weeks the Router just drops everything and needs to be reset. Now I'm running a beefy router IMO - Netgear AXE11000 Tri-Band WiFi Router. Should I start looking into a secondary router to run IOT stuff off of? All my research just runs into the security aspects via connectivity, thoughts?
Depends why it resets, it might be doing some "AI" channel scanning to optimise the usage and that's why everything drops
@@EverythingSmartHome I thank you for taking the time to respond yourself
I try to avoid wifi and use zigbee or zwave where possible so as not to overwhelm the router.
@@lorgerdat I agree as I have all my sensors and other input devices on zigbee. One would think that a $500+ router rated for 200+ devices would be ok with 60 attached
Great video, thanks a lot!
Unfortunately no NAS storage here:
"The operating system does not support network storage
Network storage is not supported on this host"
You need to update OS to 10.2
@@EverythingSmartHome have the same problem. Which OS should be updated?
I have HA installed via the supervisor way, so not as HAOS. How would I update the OS alone?
Ah then that's why, it's only supported on Home Assistant OS, because they need full control over the OS to be able to do it, which they don't have with supervised
@@EverythingSmartHome For some reason my reply didn't get posted, but I luckily found out that this is not true. Updating both the OS-version to 1.5.1 and the Supervised packeged to the most recent version solved the problem!
Thank you for the video. Request: can you please/consider to remove the background music? It is a bit annoying to concentrate to hear you. 😊
Thanks for the feedback
I've been waiting for this NAS option forever. I wasted so many hours trying the various hacks without success.
coming here > reading change log
😂 I'll take it!
@@EverythingSmartHome ive degraded past needing visual aides to needing video aides
Disappointed to see they still haven't brought full settings panels available for each integrations (i.e. unable to change IP on a TP-link device without delete & reinstall). Many such settings simply disappear after install. Otherwise another great update.
Probably take some time to work through them all but hopefully be fixed at some point
For the life of me I cannot get HA to actually connect to my NAS via smb or nfs
What error you getting?
@@EverythingSmartHome I stand corrected. User error, looks like it was just a bad share location and now everything is connected pefectly
I think people should definitely hold off on this update, at least until you've got time to troubleshoot. I had several integrations fail completely after the update.
Like which ones? Usually a reboot is enough to fix. Didn't have any personally
@@EverythingSmartHome All my AndroidTV, Lightwave, Samsung printer and Zigbee2MQTT stopped working for me. Plus some HACS stuff. Didn't bother to try to troubleshoot, just restored last night's back-up.
I'm sure some of it is documented or maybe even my own silly fault, but never knowing if an update is going to break everything is my biggest frustration with HA.
@@domramsey Zigbee2mqtt isn't an integration though? The integration is MQTT, Z2M is a separate system. Were you running it as an add-on and did the add-on fail, or something?
I think those two things don't go together, you can't really say you worry about updates breaking your system, while simultaneously updating immediately as soon as a big update is released within hours 😅
If updates breaking things are a big deal for you, hold off on updating till at least a few minor versions have been out would be my advice
@@EverythingSmartHome Why not? I want security updates. We're always told to update our devices to stay safe. Why does the same not apply to HA? And how long is the correct amount of time to wait in order to stay safe but not have things break?
I understand what you're saying, but where is the line? And do things really NEED to break every month? Or are we just so used to it that we blindly accept it? I know I'd be pissed if parts of my computer stopped working randomly with each security update...
first
automagically lol
Things just happen automagically 👀

Knx gang rise up
@@EverythingSmartHome indeed, kudos to marvin-w and farmio
What’s with the music? Not sure I like that.
Is it too loud or the style do you mean? Feedback is welcome
@@EverythingSmartHome I’m not a fan either. You have a nice enough voice mate, no need to fill the sound track with anything else.😊
Yeah I just don't like pointless music under useful speech. Different if it's over a montage or whatever but when I'm trying to listen to the words it's just distracting.
@@EverythingSmartHomeyeah it’s slightly distracting even though it’s in the background.
@@EverythingSmartHome it’s just to loud and just not required. Your talking. That all we need hear. Great content as always.
