    Semi-tangentially linked to one of the new things, having an Alarmo alarm is my single most valued automation jigsaw piece - not because I need an alarm per se but setting my alarm status as night mode for when I go to bed, home for when I'm home, away for when I'm out etc drives vast amounts of other automations through my house like making sure lights and certain sockets are off, closing Velux windows and blinds, and setting my thermostats and TRVs to their use/setback temps. Which isn't to say you can't do that anyway but being attached to the alarm forces you to get into good habits with it. I do wish I could arm/disarm it with the web ui/app without a pin and still force my keypad at the front door to have one though.. Sun stuff I'm not entirely sure I'll use because I go by sun elevation because you're not for example going to switch your porch light on when it hits dusk for example because that isn't basically ever going to be the point where it becomes useful, gonna be difficult to judge without playing with it though - I guess it simplifies it but I tend to use elevation of below 2, which isn't dusk. In re reolink: dying inside because I went Aosu doorbell because everything in that space is complete trash but at least local storage that can't be taken by stealing the doorbell itself is a thing. I wish there was an integration for that but I'm not going to hold my breath - though I'm still holding out hope that localtuya will some day solve my camera/doorbell problems.

    Hello Mark, thanks for the update. Would you consider a project for some of us that desire to become power users? Something directed at the beginner to intermediate levels. I think this would be great for many of us to move from the GUI into YAML scripts, directories of items, troubleshooting, templates, etc. Thanks!

    • @MarkWattTech
      @MarkWattTech  Год назад +2

      Specifically for writing scripts and automations in YAML or something on Templating and Jinja?

    • @anotherledfreak8649
      @anotherledfreak8649 Год назад +1

      Yes please! Ive used one template in my setup to calculate the week number and from that what shift I'm working. This in turn then turns on certain lights at certain times... I'd love to do more but just get confused.

      I've noticed some improvements with the built in assistant they added to the app or when accessing via a web browser. I noticed with scripts you used to have to say"turn on script name" and now you just have to say, or type "script name". Small change but still useful.
      Still wondering what they are going to do for a true assistant similar to an echo (without the data collecting) as I'm still using Rhasspy with a USB speakerphone hooked into my NUC running HA. After finding out about Amazon Sidewalk I had to get rid of my echoes. Sorry, Amazon building their own closed network that uses other people's wifi was just too much of a security risk IMO. Never knew they started putting in 900 Mhz radios, same used for LORA, in their newer devices and making it opt out instead of Opt-In for Sidewalk was another huge red flag to me. Sidewalk is US only at the.moment.

    Is it just improvements for the standard database or does that work for third party databases?

    • @JoshFisher567
      @JoshFisher567 Год назад

      Wondering the same thing as I use MarieDB as it was highly recommended over the default database when I started out with HA 5 years ago.

    • @JoshFisher567
      @JoshFisher567 Год назад

      Just got the update and after the reboot I got a notification that a database refresh was in progress and to not reboot and I use MarieDB so seems that this applies to 3rd party database systems also

    • @MarkWattTech
      @MarkWattTech  Год назад

      The improvements are all structural. So any other database that inherits it will also reap the benefits.

    • @MarkWattTech
      @MarkWattTech  Год назад

      That was definitely the case a few years ago. But I would disagree with it now :)

    Do like the tile cards but still not like the device/entity details, if I open a device or entity I probably don't want to turn something on or off. Most of the time I want to see history or log for that entity. Before 2023.3 was more useful to me.
    The new device switching is only useful as a card on a dashboard imo.

      Yeah, makes no sense at all... Cannot imagine what on earth was the designer thinking: huge switch buttons like those might be useful on a mobile phone or tablet, but makes no sense whatsoever if you have to touch the tiny regular switch first, and only then comes the huge button...

    Node-Red is still FAR Superior to HA Automations/Templates/etc, Blueprints are neat i'll admit, but still go to NR :)

    • @MarkWattTech
      @MarkWattTech  Год назад +1

      I make use of all of the things :)
      Personally I love using NR for anything time based. It’s just nice to see things visually

    • @AtracBreezy
      @AtracBreezy Год назад

      There’s nothing you can do in NR that you can’t do in HA. One is just visual and the other is more text based.

    • @marcusone1
      @marcusone1 Год назад

      @@AtracBreezy lol... there is a TON of things! test your automations is the biggest... but a ton of things you can't do (less if your a master programmer). Nesting of commands, complex state condition, the list is huge.

    • @JoshFisher567
      @JoshFisher567 Год назад

      I don't use NR but the new GUI for automations is much nicer than YAML. Still, if you aren't a developer even the automation GUI can get confusing with all the options for different types of logic for triggers, conditions and actions.
