Thanks so much for watching! Were you a fan of Godzilla: The Series? What were your thoughts on the live action 1998 Godzilla?
I watched it on Fox Kids.
I was a big fan! Never watched the live action movie tho.
I loved that show as a kid and was actually planning on rewatching it
Yes I love the show on Fox kids and would catch every single episode as much as I could! It's super good and brings this iteration of Godzilla into prominence unlike his movie counterpart!
I honestly liked it.
The best part about Zilla being killed in literally the shortest fight in Godzilla history is the creator of Zilla was very happy that his creation made it into an actual Godzilla movie. He didn't care that it was being made fun of.
That's actually awesome that the original creator enjoyed it
oddly wholesome
Nice to hear he was a good sport about it.
It is so sad. They made SOOO many better designs before choosing that one. And all of them were better.
Hopefully the original Godzilla did the same to Godzilla minus one .
No matter what anyone says, Zilla, it's movie and this show, will be the origin for my love of Godzilla and Kaiju. Without any of them I wouldn't be such a big Godzilla fan today. So no matter how much it gets shit on, Zilla will have a place near and dear to my heart.
the main reason for that is that the Japanese Godzilla movies never came on tv on the west during the 90s and 2000s but this stuff did .
Monsters were meant for New York, its inevitable! 👏🏼 👏🏼 👏🏼
Hey sometimes that’s all that matters. I’m sure it’s the same for many other people
Same
Why would anyone debate your origin?
Zilla: “who are you?”
Zilla Jr.: “I’m you, but better.”
Yes
Zilla Jr: “The future is now old man.”
The human characters were beyond awesome in this series. Their personalities and how they played off of one another definitely carried the show.
Monique was my favorite
Such a cool butt kicking babe ❤
But Nick was a cool leader and good character in his own right
Being a genre where the humans often feel like they're in the way, that's quite the feat..!
I swear this animation studio did some amazing animation but with some grotesuque monsters and enemies... from Godzilla, MIB, Extreme Ghostbusters, Big Guy and Rusty, they had some fantastic designs!
Yeah the show original kaijus were awesome desings
It would be cool to see some of the wierder desings adapted in a movie or a videogame
I love the one that was manifested from the mind of some dude, name's the Crackler or something like that
Those designs where by Fil Barlow (with some input by Patrick Tatopoulos for Gozilla, I believe).
As someone who is deep in the Godzilla fandom I can actually tell you how the fandom thinks of this show!
Its seen as an absolute masterpiece!
The movie has stayed a bit divisive though its not uncommon now to hear someone saying they really like it! And the general consensus for the design is that its not a good fit for Godzilla- but very good as its own thing and people would like to see it reappear! But that show is on a whole different level! Its held in extremely high regards and even people who HATED the film really loved the show. People love it. People miss it. And people want to see it come back! You would actually be the odd one out in the community if you didn't like it!
As for myself I love EVERY version of Godzilla and this giant Marine Iguana and its kid definitely have a very special place in my heart for them! Jr is great and definitively more ¨Godzilla¨ like though I just slightly love his mama/dad more! They are the highlight of the movie for me and that scene at the end always hits me like a truck! Or I guess a missile! ^^
And now if you excuse me im gonna go watch some MIB! If you know you know ;)
I couldn't have said it better myself. I don't hate any iteration of Godzilla and THIS was how I, and MANY of us in the US, actually fucking got into Godzilla! This movie, capped off the one of the greatest movie to tv series adaptations ever, really are the reason why so many of us went and sought out more Godzilla content and why its so damn popular now that we have the versions we DO have. But regardless, this will ALWAYS be my Godzilla and I'm thankful we got it. Be damned what negative comments may say about Zilla. Aint never did me wrong but get me more interested in Godzilla content and that to me is a goddamn win baby!
That’s really cool to know as a fan of Big G myself. :) I love the heck out of this series, so I’m glad to hear the reception is positive despite the movie’s lukewarm impression.
Thank you for this comment. I think Godzilla 98 gets hated on more because people think it's the cool thing to do rather than for any substantial criticism. Is it flawed in some respects? Absolutely. But damn if this isn't the most empathetic Godzilla has ever been and I think that is an accomplishment.
Dude summed up the G fandoms thoughts on this entire era in one comment. Kudos
I love the 1998 Godzilla film and this animated series is beyond underrated and underappreciated.
Plus, Dean Devlin directed and/or EPed a number of "Leverage" episodes as well as "The Librarian" films as well as episodes of its TV series adaptation.
@@JohnJacksonJohnson🥹 oh my god. Now I HAVE to watch it because I adore the librarian movies and the show 🤩
Man the creature designs were so interesting. They didnt need to make them that unique but they did. Nearly every monster in this monster of the week show is memorable. I loved this show as a kid
Great series. It showed how this iteration deserves the name Godzilla. I loved all of the unique designs and I really wish the toy line could’ve been made.
I was obsessed with the movie when it came out in 1998. I didn’t care how bad it was, a giant mutant lizard destroying sh!t was all I needed. I had the action figures, the backpack, and… the chapstick 😅
This was my introduction to Godzilla, I still have the Fox Kids promos permanently ingrained in my head, this is some strong nostalgia here
Was definitely 10x better than the film honestly. Really hope we get an animated show like it in the MV
I unapologetically love 98 Godzilla and the cartoon. I think the cartoon redeemed itself with how great the writing was. So many cool monsters and side characters, plus the monster wars arc was sick.
What I loved about the series is that it also pays homage to the Hanna Barbara cartoon series as well. It had a similar premise minus Godzilla imprinting itself onto a human. In that cartoon Godzilla did team up with a group on a boat.
Godzilla the series was definitely awesome! Unlike his movie counterpart, THIS version got to battle monsters, use his Atomic breath, and taking hits like a champ! This Zilla is Definitely a Godzilla!! It's a shame Pokemon and the surge of kids with monsters took its spot, (I'm looking at you monster rancher, metabots, digimon, Etc) but still love it! Glad i got the whole series on dvd!
As a Godzilla fan, I have not seen the 1998 movie. But I have the entire show on DVD, and have watched it in its entirety.
I actually enjoyed it! Despite the repetitive nature of most of the episodes, it was entertaining enough for me to be invested in it.
Sure some, if not a lot of people, don't like Zilla but this was my first introduction to Godzilla as a kid and I loved the animated series. I actually re-watched the series a few months ago. Totally recommend.
Kid me actually found the movie Zilla pretty cool looking, but was disappointed it never had any atomic breath. Just one scene where it roared at exploding cars kind of reminiscent of atomic breath.
This show made up for that in spades, and I loved it. Heretical it may be to some, but this is actually one of my top favorite versions of Godzilla.
The Zilla from the cartoon is one of the best kaiju ever created imo. They breathed life into that design in a huge way. And they even brought back the elder Zilla from the movie as a sort of mechagodzilla that looked awesome, more of a cyborg look than full-on mecha. I'd put this in the top 100 SatAM cartoons of all time, personally. It's highly enjoyable start to finish, and you come to really like the human team as well.
I watched that movie and cartoon series. I saw the movie in a theater. The guy running the projector messed up and closed the curtains while the movie was still playing. Then the lights turned on. People were pissed.
The Zilla design is peak godzilla and i prefer him being separate from Godzilla himself. I hope we see him in a future godzilla fighting game.
I loved this show as a kid, it has great animation, the monster designs were awesome and it was very different from any other show at the time
Unpopular opinion but I absolutely LOVE Zilla😂 I thought the Broderick movie was pretty good actually, ( even though it was my first introduction to the Godzilla franchise as a kid)
But I greatly enjoyed this cartoon when it was on back in the day and occasionally watch the reruns.. only problem is I wish the toy line for this cartoon was released.. they only exist in prototype and they are wicked cool!!!😂
I'm a huge Godzilla fan, but I always have a soft spot for Zilla. How can you not? He's got a cool character design❤😂
I'd have loved the Cyberzilla toy. SO frustrating! I'd also love to see Zilla brought into the current US Monsterverse.
I loved this movie and the series. Obviously, I love the Toho godzilla movies too (rented those all the time from Blockbuster), but Zilla has a special place in my heart. The movie's effects actually hold up alright considering the age and the series (like Clone Wars for the Star Wars prequels) helped turn a movie with problems into a beloved classic for me. The creature designs on all the enemy monsters in the series, just chef's kiss.
98 Godzilla is my Godzilla, and I love the other version of Godzilla, but this was the one I grew up with. I even just rewatched it and now I see you upload a video about its followup series, how fun! I hadn't seen the series until only a couple years ago. I remember seeing it advertised on the VHS, but I just never watched it. I find it online, but the episodes are all out of order and there's some duplicates, but then I find that the whole series was release on DVD, and in production/chronological order, and it's great! While it ends a bit like any other episode of the show, it also has a bit of closure to it, too. The world will remain safe with HEAT and Godzilla in operation, and each character kind of couples up, so you know, everyone's happy (Until Season 3 where they would probably all break up and hate each other again, glad we got the good ending. XD).
I hope one day that 98 Godzilla returns and it's more as a celebration than out of petty spite. I'm curious if Sony and/or Toho would allow that. There's definitely a fan following, and especially with what we see from this show, it would be fun to have some of these creatures and their abilities carried over into a new universe. Although their origins are from toxic spills and such, the Hollow Earth of the Legendary Monster-Verse needs populating, and there's plenty of great creatures to pull from. Heck, given how insane the Monster-Verse is getting you could just bring in the multiverse and have 98 Godzilla and HEAT and everything come flying in for even just a single movie, and it wouldn't even not make sense since we've seen aliens and time travel in that universe, and we're just waiting for it to happen in the Monster-Verse, too.
It was 100 times better than the movie it was tied to. I love it
WAIT... Remember Godzilla, the Hanna Barbera produced cartoon from the 70s that would later be rebroadcast in the 90s on Cartoon Network and TNT?
It’s weird to think how many blockbuster movies from the late 90s and very early 2000s got their own tv series. Godzilla 99, MIB, The Mummy, Evolution and many more. It’s sort of a lost art in a way.
I think I might be the only human being that actually liked that movie. Yeah it wasn't the traditional Godzilla and was goofy at moments, but I enjoyed it.
Zilla was my first exposure to the Godzilla franchise. It will always be special to me. I have fond memories of the cartoon as well as another series called Evolution that I watched alongside it.
I've got big nostalgia for this and the Jumanki show - I remember both wy more than the movies that they're based on. Your on camera sections have really gotten good by the way.
This is one of the few monster shows where humans actually get to use their brains and find creative solutions to the problems, instead of just the monster protagonist showing up, beating up everything and saving the day.
I haven’t seen your videos in a little bit cool to c this and stuck in the suburbs hopefully there’s even more I watched!! Keep up the good work mane
I loooved this series as a kid, thanks for the video ❤ Seems series of this same studio like Ghostbusters and Man in Black had more success in latin america (i am from Brazil) than the us itself. It was always on tv during lunch time, so much nostalgia, and such an amazing creative design on the creatures ❤❤
Remember it? Dude this was my childhood! I hope someone of the monsters in this joint the monsterverse. Also oh my gosh I had that costume. I also heard Roland tried every thing he could do to get fired
I’ve been waiting for you to this show. I loved this cartoon and the Gameboy game that went along with it.
I love how much love this show has been getting over the last few years it's a serious comfort show for me.
This is my all time favorite cartoon. Thank you for covering it. I still have really fond memories of this and MIB the series. I just watched Godzilla -0.1 in Imax and I took my old Taco Bell Godzilla 98 cup, baseball cap, and t-shirt. I love the classics and the modern renditions but 98 was my first. (I had the chap stick, I also have a school eraser set from the same line too)
I love this show. Throwback Toona ran a few episodes on their channel not that long ago.
A new fringe video what a wonderful day! And it's about Gojira himself, I've been huge into the Monster verse movies and Goji Centers content so I love seeing more channels paying attention to the media
It's funny this Godzilla is nicknamed Zilla Jr, some joke and say unlike its parent Jr deserves the God part of their name.
Also in some comics they show Zilla as a fast and cunning monster as he ducks around Godzilla burrowing underground before popping up elsewhere to jump Big G
Just gotta say, spirit to spirit dude, I love you. Keep it rolling, you're a beast in covering a lot of nostalgia.
So glad you reviewed my suggestion! Love this series and genre to death.
This series was soooooo good! One of the best things on Saturday mornings! 😊😊😊
I do remember, I saw a dvd of the whole series at Walmart a few years ago and snatched that shit up instantly
I still remember this series, I even have it on DVD. monster fights, aliens, everything a Godzilla fan at the time would want
seriously watched a few episodes online a couple months back cause I had the urged to watch this series again. I remembered it a lot not because of any storylines or characters. It was the art style that was always stuck inside my head, cause it was so crazy with their monster designs. I mean, these are some insane designs for the monsters and think that is why I still remember MiB the series and Extreme Ghostbusters cause the same people did the animation and the creature designs are insane!!
..and you unlocked a memory with that chap stick holder cause I swear I played around with that thing.
Remember when you said you did this to "get back into the Christmas 🎄 spirit"? Well, now its a part of some of our holiday traditions!!! Excellent work, and thanks for helping amp up the festivities! As for godzilla, MECHA-KING GHIDORAH RULES ALL!!!
had the sucker holder that spun and the jaw opened and closed, very fun. a kid in class had the backpack and i was super jelly. I think taco bell had some toys as well, good times.
I loved this growing up and this is what got me into the series as a whole. I always thought that if this Godzilla was different then it was probably normal all the other Godzillas looked different. I really feel like this huge appearance change allowed all studios to relax and form their own personal Godzillas! Gmk, final wars, hesei, showa, and monster verse included! So many wonderful designs
I actually did watch this whole show, I discovered it when I was in either 8th or 9th grade when I discovered a DVD case of the whole series at my local library, so I rented it and watched the whole thing. I loved it. Definitely better than the movie, especially now that I've done more research on Godzilla as a whole and watched basically every monster verse movie thus far. I plan on watching Monarch Legacy of Monsters soon.
The timing! I JUST started watching this again following the announcement of the new monsterverse movie
Wow this video helped me remember a core memory ...
There use to be a kids play place called "discovery zone." I want to say the last theme they had was actually based on this very cartoon series!
I love Kaiju so much! This video was a perfect addition to massive hyperfixation and current special interest!
Love the teen toon era of the late 90s and early 2000s, adapting comic characters but as teens and adapting PG-13 movies. Batman Beyond, Teen Titans, X-Men Evolution, Extreme Ghostbusters, Men in Black, Godzilla, what a time to be alive
Ey, im all here for it. Love hearin bouta ur childhood godzilla chapstick dude.
I honestly love this version of Godzilla the most
This series is what make me love godzilla!
Hope u make a video about the men in black cartoon, it was really good
I loved this as a kid
This show was my introduction to Godzilla, and holds a special place in my heart right next to Spider-Man: TAS. Glad to see it's still remembered. ❤
Haha, you're always pretty funny man! 👍😁
I connect to this one brah. On of my favorite of yours so far.
Oh my gosh that chapstick figurine unlocked so many old memories! I had it as a kid and I loved the movie and TV show. It was one of the few films I ever remembered my parents renting at Blockbuster and I was so into the series they gave me a VHS of the film and a big remote control Godzilla. I still have the robot and the VHS but haven't seen my chapstick toy in decades!
I wished for this video and it came true, you're awesome
I remember playing the game boy game while waiting for my mom to get off work. Watching this makes me want to go buy it on eBay somewhere. Thank you for having me remember this.👍
I remember watching this show on Netflix years ago and I remember loving it when I was younger it felt like a fun godzilla cartoon
I knew about it but never watched it. I always saw it while watching reruns or recordings (ones we made) of Roughnecks: A Starship Troopers Chornicles. Finally saw a few episodes on youtube and wow it was dope. I love how it has similar music to the previously mentioned Roughnecks and the guy who voices Rico (the main Character of Starship Troopers) also voices a char in the Godzilla show is funny.
My brain for some reason mistook the guy who voiced Rico in the show as Casper Van Diem and was like "Holy Crap he was in this???" lol
After hating the movie, this is actually what got me interested in kaiju to start with, glad to see you covering one of my old favorites
I totally forgot about this show, but it was pretty cool. Thanks for the video.
Oh my god. First yesterday with the speed racer one, and now the Godzilla one! This is amazing.
I never pictured you looking that awesome
I completely forgot about this series, I loved it as a kid 😂
Never watched this series growing up, but when I did get into it a couple years back, I really enjoyed that, the monsters, and characters!
Yesssssss I still watch this every now and then
I remember getting up like an hour or two before school started to watch this and then the magic school bus on another channel. I was obsessed with that version of Godzilla
Great video! I love Godzilla the Series!
I love this show, and I have downloaded on my computer, for the occasional yearly rewatch,
But I believe that in the original run, "CASH OF TITANS" was the final episode, but while it does not provide an actual ending to the series, it does brings a resolution to some of the character relationships.
i really enjoyed this series as a kid and i was fortunate enough to find it on dvd recently
YES!!! THANKS FOR MAKING THIS ONE!
I remember going to this out of the way lazer tag place and instead of going and playing I sat in the lobby/eating area watching this on the tv. I regret not going in because apparently the lazer tag arena was completely based on the show. I had an inflateable Zilla punching bag, the books, toys, and a lot of other stuff still have some of it.
i used to watch this cartoon after coming back from school everyday way back in 2000s. thats how i fell in love with Godzilla movies.
I love this show, but it was competing with Pokemon and Digimon at the time, so it only lasted two seasons. Zilla Jr is the best Godzilla I've ever seen and will always be my favorite.
I remember watching the older animated Godzilla show with Godzooki .
Been rewatching this show recently with my daughter she absolutely loves it
I accidentally found this show either earlier this year or late last year, and I’ll admit, I had fun watching it. It was just a show trying to have a good time. And when I found out Jeff Kline (is that how you spell his name. He’s the guy who was an executive producer on Transformers Prime) was part of the making of it, I was willing to give it a chance. I know if I watched this as a kid (with a less critical and animator mind as I do now) this would’ve definitely been one of those shows that was a big staple of my childhood.
I was 4 years old when the movie came out, and I remember loving the movie. I was so beyond thrilled when I found out there was a cartoon based on it, and watched every episode as they aired. Skip forward a couple decades, and I own the complete series on DVD. Sure, it's not the best Godzilla content ever, but it holds a special place in my heart. And some of the episodes truly stand out for their time. For kaiju action, the Monster Wars arc is right up there with Destroy All Monsters and Final Wars for me.
This show is so amazing. I love it so much. Local bookmans had a dvd set for like 8 bucks now I’m set for life🙏.
bro I loved this as a kid, I remember having the action figure/ toy too
I loved this show as a kid man! Also had the same Halloween costume back in the day haha 🤘
I didn't watch this when it came out, but I have watched some of it since then. It's good.
I remember when this series used to be on Netflix where I fully watched it
But my introduction to it was when I rented the dvd version of the 1998 film and it had special features with like 3 episodes from the series and I loved the opening theme 😌
MY MAN IS TALKIN PEAK TODAY?!
GTS is my first exposure to Godzilla (and kaiju in general).
It's one of my favorite cartoon shows.
This was one of my favorite shows growing in fact I believe this was my first introduction to Godzilla. If it’s possible for a future video could you do one of Star Wars the Clone Wars series?
Just finished a rewatch a week ago. Crazy.
I love the Zilla design and he's dank imo
This ruled my childhood. I finally found the box set and watch it often. As a Godzilla fan I’ve seen every movie from 1954 to Godzilla V Kong (haven’t seen minus 1 yet) but I never understood the hate for the 98 movie.
Now I need to rewatch this show, the men in black cartoon, and the ghost busters cartoon that was in this animation style
Favorite show growing up
❤ Awesome as always thanks
