I adored Duck Dodgers as a kid, and I think it's part of why Daffy is my favorite Looney Toon even over Bugs. Though I will admit, they make a great duo and elevate each other even higher
Finally! People are talking about this show. I was marathoning it weeks ago. It was my favorite Looney Tunes series as a kid. Joe Alaskey was the Daffy Duck voice actor I grew up with, and they did a really great job implementing the Looney Tunes flare for a new Millennium. I forgot how short this series actually was, but it got 3 seasons and a theme that absolutely slapped by Tom Jones, who Dodgers also paid tribute to in the show, even dressed like him. The crossovers like Samurai Quack was also awesome. This show went wild in the best possible ways. Show much to enjoy about Duck Dodgers, one of them being that despite Dodgers being an arrogant, selfish, lazy goofball, he can actually be a pretty competent badass. He is even a master of the nunchaku.
the thing that makes doger miles above other 'dumber character spinoff' is that, while he's in-universe overhyped as a hero, in reality he's just below average, and will still try to rise to occasion when the chips are down, usually failing, but giving an opening for his teammates to save the day
I think the martian queen became a popular character in this series. The fans gave her a proper name "Queen Tyr'ahnee" and her attractive design caused her to fall victim to a particular rule of the internet.
@@yardslammer009kennedy2dear god And I look at deviantart in hopes of finding a side that ain’t what we know it for so far I got nothin but when I searched for that particular queen I didn’t sleep that night😰
I was a Boomerang kid, more so than any other kids cable channel. Subsequently Duck Dodgers was a huge influence on my childhood and I remember vividly experiencing the third season while it was still airing. It cemented Daffy as my favorite Looney Tunes character for eons (although the Looney Tunes Show usurped that slightly by making me adore Lola), and it inspired my love for animation as an art form and my desire to become a cartoonist as an adult. It’s an unsung gem of the early 2000s.
To this day, I believe the Megadeth episode of Duck Dodgers is one of the best celebrity cameos in a show. I was in my early teens when that episode aired and it absolutely melted my brain. It was so cool.
That episode is literally the only reason why I remembered this show lol. I know for a fact I've seen other episodes as a kid, but didn't find the show interesting, and can't recall many other specifics. But I vividly remember seeing Dave Mustaine on that episode and being like "what is going ON here" 😂
The way that this series cemented both the "Enemies to Lovers" trope, as well as introducing me to Megadeth, and also the Talent show where they both ended up singing? So many moments from this show that live rent-free in my mind
One of my favorite shows of all time, unashamed to say I had a crush on the Martian Queen, so many sci-fi parodies done right in one show, sadly nothing of that quality has been done since.
I had a crush on the Martian Queen too. I was only like 6-7 years old when the show started but i think she was my awakening. That see through clothes she wears is a tease
2003 was my year of cartoon crushes. 11-year-old me had crushes on the Martian Queen, Jenny from My Life as a Teenage Robot, and Starfire from Teen Titans.
I loved this show as a kid. It turned me from a childhood of being a Bugs fan to a teenager being a Daffy fan. Had no idea there was a re-release, I always figured that the show was so short lived because it was that classical cartoon niche in a time where everything was leaning towards dark and more mature stuff. This show was great and an instant classic, it deserves more recognition alone.
Im not gonna lie, as a 9 year old kid in 2003, I actually wasnt much a fan of Duck Dodgers, but then one day I was bored, checked it out, and the particular episode I saw had the Martian Queen as a central focus and uh, yeah, she is what got me into the show. and even to this day, the Martian Queen is still one of my highest rated, non-anime, animated women
You gotta commend the staff at the time for experimenting with the Looney Tunes in the early 00s, proving they can work in different genres. Duck Dodgers, The Looney Tunes Show, and yes Loonatics, were all gems. For their so called “evergreen” IP, I wish they did more with them.
Ikr? Like, I love how WB was like "hey, you know these 50+year old cartoon characters that are traditionally used in comedic shorts? Let's do something, like, super deep and creative with them. Sci-fi, fantasy, procedural drama, aliens/basketball, DITL, Christmas spinoffs, let's just work with what we have and, well, do it!" Like, the people on the creative team in this era were literal geniuses. Unfortunately WB is becoming more self-aware and trying too hard to be the "Golden Age". The "Evergreen era" actually tried to be it's own thing while honouring the LT legacy, that's why it worked so well.
thank goodness for this series being released on Blu Ray and I have your channel to thank for giving me all the motivation I needed to revisit a childhood favorite like Duck Dodgers so to you Jordon Fringe I say thank you for this awesome and well thought out video dedicated to Duck Dodgers a beloved favorite Warner Brothers cartoon from my childhood
Used to watch this all the time! The Green Loontern episode was my favorite episode ever and strangely the Martian Queen was one of my early animation crushes lol. Daffy as Green Lantern even appeared in Lego Batman 3
I remember watching this show years ago when I was a kid, and while I liked it a lot, my 5 year old brain thought it was more serious compared to other Looney Tunes shows, especially with the martian queen involved.
I absolutely love Duck Dodgers! To this day I still watch it especially when I have nothing better to do!!! In fact two of my all time favorite episodes of this show is "Diamond Boogie" and the one where Tom Jones guest stars even though he sings the shows theme song.
The first episode alone will get you hooked. It simultaneously establishes the characters and their traits, the main conflict of the whole show, and its tone while also having its own story. And let’s be honest, we’re all still fawning over Queen Tyr’ahnee.
Remember it? I just saw the entire series again a few months ago. Still funny. Still amazing. I miss akus VA mako so much still in the samurai duck episode
I recently discovered Duck Dodgers, unfortunately just missed the demographic to catch it on TV. But this show is amazing! Really captures the edgy 2000's humour of what I call the "Looney Tunes Renaissance". Like, I am just in love with the fact that throughout this era WB was saying "let's just take these comedic cartoon characters we normally do in shorts and do super deep and creative stuff with them!" Like, holy shit. And the dynamic between these three is killer.
I watched the first two seasons a year ago. I love this show. I showed my dad an episode or two from it and he was laughing at some jokes and he really likes the old looney tunes shorts. The theme song is better than it has any right to be This is one of (if not) joe alaskey and bob Bergen’s best performances as daffy and porky respectively. I feel like this show is slowly becoming more underrated as the years go on because of the popularity of the looney tunes show. It’s a show that definitely deserves more recognition and I’m happy it has gotten a Blu-ray release. Great video, Jordan.
I remember being obsessed with this show, and really liking Queen Tyranny's design growing. I never knew it moved to Boonerang and didn't know there was a third season! Guess I should go fix this.
So glad you did a video on this show, I loved it as a kid! It's a big part of why Daffy is my favorite. Rewatched it a few years ago, still holds up imo and I got a lot of references I missed before. Great writing, great cast, such a fun show. Wish it could've lasted longer!
In fairness, dodgers has his moments. Rescuing her with Dr. Doom armor. His talent with laser nunchucks. Preventing the fudd. Heck in the first episode he stopped a martian attack using potatoes.
Fun fact: Duck Dodgers originally was intended to be a theatrical film from Warner Bros' feature animation division, and was pitched immediately after Iron Giant's production was completed. Spike Brandt & Tony Cervone (supervising directors for the TV show) and frequent Brad Bird collaborator Dean Wellins animated a trailer and showed it to WB. WB nixed the idea because they didn't feel the characters could "carry a feature film on their own". Production artwork and footage from that trailer appear in the opening credits of the TV show.
Jordan, thank you so much for uploading your awesome retrospectives. To get a bit personal, in there earlier months of this year, I’d get home from work, smoke a bowl, and enjoy the heck out of each of your new uploads. I’ve recently been placed on probation, and having to suddenly stop smoking after four+ years is hard to get used to. Having ADD, I just can’t vibe or appreciate things like I did with the herb. But your calming voice, bringing me back to the early 2000s is really all I need at the moment to just calm down and be myself. Thanks again. ❤️
I remember watching the intro to the show and thinking "Whoever is singing this does a top-notch Tom Jones impression". My mind was blown when I checked the end credits.
Duck Dodgers! There are 2 very memorable episodes of this series I can never forget - "Of Course You Know This Means War", two parts, where a disgraced Dodgers, a framed Cadet Porky, and a replaced Marvin the Martian move to stop a Martian Plot to invade Earth, and "The Fudd", an off putting episode where characters are inflicted with a virus called The Fudd where they simply give off a creepy laugh - where it culminates to an amazing cameo of Elmer Fudd. This was a nostalgic throwback. I was a highschooler at this time, watching TV just to shirk off homework, and seeing unique takes of characters from the classic Loony Toons were an amazing sight to see. Thanks for this, man! Looking to more throwbacks!
An absolutely brilliant spinoff and one that desrved at least one more season. I remember watching it when i was growing up and it was hilarious. Might have to go rewatch it sometime
Tiny Toons, This, The Looney Tunes Show are the greatest Looney Tunes spin offs. I was and still am a huge sci/fi person and the original Duck Dodger cartoon being one of my favorites I loved this as a kid.
Lol I absolutely loved this show when I was a kid. Duck Dodgers was probably the first show I ever watched that had 4th wall breaking and absurdist humor 😂 And I swear, that Dave Mustane episode alone is the reason I became a metalhead later in life
I think that might have been why I didn’t get to finish this series when it was airing. The time slot seemed to always conflict with something else. But the few episodes I happened to catch, I loved. Honestly, I thought this only had one season! Thanks for reminding me that this exists, I think I’ll binge this this weekend.
Really liked this show growing up, the humour was always a highlight for me, not to mention, even as a kid I was fascinated with sci fi and this show was pretty much everything I wanted. Rewatching it as an adult gives a new layer to the show as now I understand a lot of the references that previously went over my head. Like how there was an entire episode dedicated to Godzilla, Mazinger Z and Astro Boy.
Oh Duck Dodgers was one of my favorite cartoons growing up! I vividly remember watching episodes on Boomerang almost every morning on the TV in our basement ^^ I always loved the Theme Song and how funky and epic it sounded!
A few weeks away from the Tiny Toons reboot, I think it's amusing that you posted this, Jordan. Because the budget for this went all over the place originally, with it originally being a Dodgers movie, and before that it was gonna be a continuation of Tiny Toons that followed the characters into young adulthood rather than the early high school of the original show.
Awesome video! Dude the opening for it is amazing, I actually saw a ton of people from the CN Mexico youtube appreciating it from a recent upload! This cartoon is loved by everyone!
5:09 what’s funny about the Tiny Toons Duck Dodgers skit was Plucky being played by Joe Alaskey who went on to be become the official voice of Daffy in the 2000s shortly afterwards, including of course Duck Dodgers in this series
I remember loving this show, but much like Megas XLR it always felt like a bit of a black sheep among the Cartoon Network series, being of a different format than other shows and as far as I can remember getting a lot less promotion and airtime. It's a shame since those were two of my favorite series at that time and they both really deserved more love!
saw this vid when i was just searching for ytpmvs for the omg is bugs bunny joke from angry video game nerd 20 minutes after this was uploaded lmfao, great vid man, this show was personal childhood classic to me,and after recently watching every 1006 looney tunes short from the original run and a video series that talks about their history and the studio behind them i really am enjoying getting into the looney tunes, keep up the great work and hope ur doing well
I remember this show a bit when I was growing up, the most I recall though was the Queen Martian being one of my first childhood cartoon crushes. Don’t ask me why. 😂
I watched this show with my dad growing up and we loved it so much! We watched alot of shows on Boomerang. I didnt realize there were others who watched and have a love for this show ❤. Thanks for making this video!
I vividly remember being so excited for this show as a kid due to the marketing, and then never actually being able to catch a single episode due to my schedule at the time. XD
"Duck Dodgers of the 24th and ½ century!" Loved watching this show all the time at night on Boomerang from Cartoon Network. Definitely an Amazing Looney Tunes Spinoff.
This series was my introduction to Megadeth. They are my favorite thrash metal band. And thanks for reminding me I’m old, as I saw the series when it first aired.
this was a really great thought out analysis on this series jordan… so many aspects of animation touched on in one piece to go thru… excellent work as always… also i didn’t know that daffy was a megadeath fan 😂
I finally remembered a show from my childhood that you haven't covered yet (arguably our childhood as all the things you cover was in the same timeframe) Big Guy and Rusty The Boy Robot. Also aired on that same station while I'm remembering, Mystic knights of Tir Na Nog. (Saban Entertainment's attempt at essentially making a tokusatsu style show, but unlike their success with Power Rangers and Beetleborgs, they didn't use any Japanese footage) (The number of times I remembered a show just to see you've already covered it, some of those times realizing I've already seen the episode is amazing. You've coverd Cubix of a all things. No one remembers that. )
'Samurai Quack' is one of the funniest things I've ever seen, and I'm 56. Speaking of which, I watched the original airing of 'Duck Dodgers and the Return of the 24½th Century' in 1980. Regrettably, they've now removed the part where Marvin fires his Earth-destroying missile, only to reassure us that it'll take three days to reach us, giving us plenty of time to prepare.
Loved this show!! I still quote some of the most hilarious lines such as "if you're ever on stage and don't remember what city you're in, just yell 'Thank You Detroit!' There's a 47% chance you'll be right". Also the entire Ghost in the Machine spoof episode is in my opinion the funniest, with gems like the fortune teller "did one of you have a grandfather?" And "Thumb, thumb, thumb, lens cap, eyeball, thumb...Bananas are loaded with potassium." Now I want to go rewatch it.
Some of my favorite Looney Tunes stuff ever. In a way, the series is like very high-quality fanfiction (don't knock fanfiction, for you'd be amazed at some of the stuff written). Even the guest voice actors were great to have on, with my favorite one - which may or may not be a surprise, as I was in high school during this time - being Lewis Black. A shame we won't get more shows quite like this one, ditto for it being as relatively short-lived as it was, but at least we got a good and good-quality show that still had a decent run. Highly recommend adding it to anyone's and everyone's library.
Thanks so much for watching! Let me know your thoughts on Duck Dodgers and what your favorite Looney Tunes spin-off is?
I’m guessing this means an upcoming video for the Duck Dodgers game on N64…
Hey can you do a video on Angelo rules an old cartoon network show
Loonatics Unleashed will always have a special place in my heart.

The Martian queen isn't just a baddie. For a character with very little facial features she's a baddie. They didn't have to go so hard.

ohohoho now you are talking !! I saw an au of Dodgers where Bugs is a villan. Maybe Duck dodgers deserves a reboot??
Awesome video! Dude the opening for it is amazing, I actually saw a ton of people from the CN Mexico youtube appreciating it from a recent upload! This cartoon is loved by everyone!
Duck Dodgers was a W series in my book. I even played the flash games on Cartoon Network's website
I loved that tom jones sang the theme song, RIP to a legend
Tom Jones is still alive, as of the writing of this comment.
@@firecoroner oh shit you right, got him confused with tony Bennett lol thx for fact checking me dude 🤘
It would never have been as good in any other voice
This was and still is one of my favorite show. Especially the samurai quack episode.
One of my favorite shows as a kid.
I started watching this show and have no regrets
This one was definitely a core memory for myself and my younger brother.
5:09 what’s funny about the Tiny Toons Duck Dodgers skit was Plucky being played by Joe Alaskey who went on to be become the official voice of Daffy in the 2000s shortly afterwards, including of course Duck Dodgers in this series
The Martian Queen was basically a sex symbol for growing boys, this show was the best
Man, your channel keeps uncovering core memories of mine i forget i have, thank you 🙏
I completely forgot about this show. Legit unlocked a memory
I've been asking this review for AGES
TY!
The show has the best cameos with Tom Jones, Green lantern and Megadeth
YEEESSSS!!! My favorite verison of Daffy, thanks for highlighting this one mate
Something of note with Frank Welker: apparently he is the third highest grossing actor in the world and of all time currently.
this show was the best, i just loved how hilarous and random. and the best part has to be how it's DC cannon that Daffy Duck was a Green Lantern
I vividly remember being so excited for this show as a kid due to the marketing, and then never actually being able to catch a single episode due to my schedule at the time. XD
I'll never forget about that one episode they reference the iron giant.
"Duck Dodgers of the 24th and ½ century!"
Loved watching this show all the time at night on Boomerang from Cartoon Network. Definitely an Amazing Looney Tunes Spinoff.
This series was my introduction to Megadeth. They are my favorite thrash metal band. And thanks for reminding me I’m old, as I saw the series when it first aired.
"The Queen of Mars, is the overall main baddie of the show."
Uh, phrasing 😏
It was on purpose lol
I loved this show growing up, so thanks for doing a video about that!
I absolutely love this show.
this was a really great thought out analysis on this series jordan… so many aspects of animation touched on in one piece to go thru… excellent work as always… also i didn’t know that daffy was a megadeath fan 😂
It had the most sense of identity outside all the usual Looney Tunes hijinks, and I hope more people remember it for that.
I finally remembered a show from my childhood that you haven't covered yet (arguably our childhood as all the things you cover was in the same timeframe)
Big Guy and Rusty The Boy Robot.
Also aired on that same station while I'm remembering, Mystic knights of Tir Na Nog. (Saban Entertainment's attempt at essentially making a tokusatsu style show, but unlike their success with Power Rangers and Beetleborgs, they didn't use any Japanese footage)
(The number of times I remembered a show just to see you've already covered it, some of those times realizing I've already seen the episode is amazing. You've coverd Cubix of a all things. No one remembers that. )
I’ve only heard of Duck Dogers in a reference in the live action “Loony Toons Back in Action”. Fun to learn about the old spin off
It’s Looney Tunes
Not Toons
I ❤ ur videos bc u always bring up old skool cartoons from when I was younger ty
I love Genndy Tartakovsky's cameo in that Samurai Quack episode.
"You're lucky I didn't cut you to ribbons."
"Not with a Y7 rating you won't."
I watched the reboot of the show when that came out, where he was frozen in ice and became a hero in the century
the looney tunes spinoffs from the 90s-2010s are all very underrated
I loved this show so much as a kid, nice vid 👍
I absolutely love watching this show! It’s easily one of my favorite iterations of the Looney Tunes!
been waiting on you to do this one
