Not really. He played the guitar like nobody's business, stylishly elegant being his signature style. But a great singer he was not. This song has a rather Dire Straits feel to it and might've been a bigger hit if DS had written it. Nevertheless the album was imo the last real Shadows album with original material and a worthy exit.
I see the actual writer of the song has recorded this wonderful song recently. Find - Coil (I'm Gonna Be Your Guardian Angel) on youtube. Not The Shads, of course, but a memorable track all the same. Really good video of this great song. Gonna be on I-Tunes etc soon. Must have it!

The Shadows goes Dire Straits in inspiration. I like the tune, although I was never fond of Dire Straits. Great Playing, and what a great sound on the Snaredrum !!! Great Guitar work from master Hank Marvin, and great Interpretaion from the whole band.
I've been a shadows fan for 50 years ,how did I miss this one , its awsome , sounds like it's Bruce on vocals . Anyway I have just order the CD today. Many thanks for bringing this number to my attention. PS. Don't you think it sounds a bit like Chris Rea. Fender Fan Pete
