I grew up with this music as it's my mums favourite band. She still plays it all the time, especially when driving.

The Shadows are now working in music 'lindependently' but they remain one of the greatest 'mainly instrumental' but also 'many Vocals' band in the world. Sir Cliff Richard gave them their recording contract in late 1958 when for a short while they were called 'The Drifters'. The number of great Vocal songs and equally fantastic instrumentals they have recorded will astound you Faye! The first 10 years of their musical career they spent Brilliantly backing Sir Cliff Richard in recordings, concerts, films ... you name it They've done it! They have written hundreds of wonderful (and many times beautiful) songs and instrumentals, recorded by themselves and Sir Cliff Richard. In 1969 the year after their main 10 year association with him, they toured the far east with Cliff and have continued to meet and 'play' with him for Many Reunion concerts over the years, especially Hank Marvin, his son Ben Marvin, (an Amazing guitarist) Briab Bennett the drummer and Warren Bennet his son who is a superb Keyboard player and writer. In the book British Hit Singles of the 1960's, it is NOT The Beatles but Hank B Marvin (the lead guitarist and lots more in The Shadows) who is the individual who was MOST successful during that decade interms of 'weeks' on the British Chart: as a member of 'The Shadows', as a member of the band 'Cliff Richard and The Shadows', and in duets with Sir Cliff Richard, Jean Michel Jarre, Brian May of 'Queen', Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits and many others. Hank was the first guitarist to 'own' a Fender Stratocaster electric guitar in Great Britain (which Cliff ordered for him in early 1959) and has influenced and inspired literally 'Thousands' of guitarist over the years including other famous Rock stars like Midge Ure of Ultravox and Neil Young. A truly Brilliant band. Please check out a lot more of them and about them Faye, if you haven't done already. God bless you, Paul.🥰

This was one of the great instrumental bands from the late 50's-60's. They served as the backing band for Cliff Richard from 1958-1968. They had some hits such as "Apache", "Kon-Tiki", "Wonderful Land", "Foot Tapper", "Dance On!" etc. Other instrumental bands were "The Ventures", "The Surfaris", "The Tornados", "Johnny & The Hurricanes", "Booker T. & The M.G.'s" etc.

As another commenter mentioned The Shadows were Cliff Richard’s first backing band. A fun fact about this song it became The Shadows first number one hit song on the British charts knocking out the previous number one song Please Don’t Tease by Cliff Richard and The Shadows. Hank Marvin (the guy with the glasses) has influenced many British guitarists.

The Sugarhill Gang recorded a rap version of "Apache" back around 1980 that was a hit in the clubs and another of their contributions to proto-hip-hop. It samples from this song. The twin sons of instrumental rock guitar songs might be Link Wray "Rumble" and Duane Eddy "Ramrod" both from 1958. Surf rock came next, with classics like "Walk, Don't Run" by The Ventures (1960), "Pipeline" by The Chantays (1962), "Miserlou" by Dick Dale (1962), "Wipe Out" by The Surfaris (1963), "Surf Rider" by The Lively Ones (1963) and dozens more. The Ventures took their sound to the next level in 1964 with "Exploration In Terror", "Fear", and "He Never Came Back". These bands influenced the sound of The B-52s among many others that followed.

Jogen Ingmann did a great version of this instrumental in 1961; my favored version.

When I was young I used to image, while listening to this master peace, a high cliff crowded with Apaches; ready to attack... but seems like it's rather the best commercial for cigarettes; back then people could smoke on a plane.

If you liked this, then I highly recommend Dick Dale & His Del-Tones, Dick Dale was the God of surf music and you might know his song 'Misirlou' which was the soundtrack of Quentin Tarantino's masterpiece 'Pulp Fiction'.
