- The song is written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David for the 1969 film Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. The uplifting lyrics describe somebody who overcomes his troubles and worries by realizing that "it won't be long 'till happiness steps up to greet me.
It won an Oscar for Best Original Song. Burt Bacharach won Best Original Score.
My mother so loved this song, I can see her in my memories of 45 yrs ago, singing it and smiling... ❤️
🌹❤️🇦🇺
Sorry to hear that. Today B.J. Thomas is gone.
So did my mom, gone many years now herself. Music can be bittersweet, can't it?
I bet your mom and B.J. Thomas are giving a concert in heaven right now. RIP your mom and B.J. Thomas!
My favorite song as a kid. I even had a music box that played it.
This has been my favorite song since I was 12. I am now 64. I was lucky enough to see B.J. perform 3 times and get his autograph. Rest in Peace B.J.
Hello Kathleen how are you doing today?
Set Kathleen bless you and I love the raindrops at 63
I was 11old🥹
Mine too, my second favorite song, probably around seven years old, after "The Age of Aquarius" by The Fifth Dimension, at five years old. I think it impacted me with the mod bright 60s Earth tones in the place I was, that rocked the vibe in me. I remember being allowed to see this movie, at a movie theater, and it was definitely eye opening. Great actors, all of them. Paul Newman, Robert Redford, and Katherine Ross. Great story.
Wow!
The memory of that song completely erases my present time. I can't help it. One of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard
This song brings back so many memories.
Rest in peace, Kind Sir. You, Burt Bacharach and Hal David forever immortalized two affable outlaws with this song.
Too true !
MISSED PAUL MEWMAN....
THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE WITH YOU IN IT!!!!!
Quincy Jones, Burt Bacharach,Leon Russell, how I miss pop music of the 60s and 70s and the Rock , Funk ,Soul, and even Lawrence Welk. My family would watch Lawrence Welk on Sundays and I learned the enjoyment of Ragtime, Swing, and Scat jazz. Rockabilly, Country, Western, and Country Swing. Nostalgia.
@@jameslockard6956 Sounds like my family. I learned a lot from the Lawrence Welk Show!
@@catherinepage4827 I was exposed to music and entertainment outside of current music and trends of the times from 1963 to 1973. I learned for instance the 50s hit song Blue Moon that the retro GROUP Shanana performed in almost of all their performances was in fact a Crooner and Barber Shop Quartet Hit from the early turn of of the century between 1900 to 1925. In a episode of Lawrence Welk they performed a 1920s arrangement. It also turned out that my Grandmother had a sheet music copy of it dated 1923. My family's effort helped me develop a wide appreciation for all music. I blew my son's minds when they wanted to me out for my 55th birthday to a Kereokee lounge and when, my turn in sing came up I raped Eminem's Loose Yourself ! I put my ball cap on ascue backwards and mimicked the gestures Eminem did from his movie 8 mile. And the Lounge went crazy I even dropped the mic.
This is the best song ever written in the world. It makes me want to cry.
Bad memories?
I went to Cerritos College. Mi amigo de Canada me la envió, llegue de Ecuador, el me dijo “did you remember this one”

I remember this song so well. When I was a young child, I'm 57 now, I was in a baton group and we did a recital to this song. Listening to it today, I can still remember the recital. Good music.
Exact age and ironically my twin sis and I did a dance too that in a recital we our dance school asked we also twirled the batons in a few parades 😃😃👍👍‼️🥁🤸🤹💂‼️
I still absolutely adore this song! And instead of just singing it , while it's pouring here in Southern New England,I figured Y not play it t00 !
I hafta say I d prefer too be playing IT on our record, on our blue Victrola brand record player ! But this LL suffice😁😃‼️

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.
One of my favorite movies from my childhood.
This song was perfect.
I think this is the best scene in movie history
The music from that time period was so beautiful.
As a newspaper boy waiting on the docks with the publishing being late coming off the presses and it was raining and this song came on through the speakers. So lovely so beautiful ! 🥰
Later, in my early thirties, I met BJ Thomas after his show. His crew let me go in his trailer thinking that I was "press" looking for an interview. They let me go in his trailer as he was putting his pants on standing there in his underwear saying to me, "come on in.' Now that was beautiful to meet the singer of this great song !!
I like the songs from the 50s,60s,and70s
Absolutely.. :-]
For me, the golden era: 1966-1980
Incredible time incredible music for me
I may be only 14 but B.J Thomas was one of my favorite musicians and It's sad to see him go. He will be dearly missed.
Don't be sad this song will make u happy buddy
Good music is timeless!
What an ole soul, nice to meet you again

Hello Caroline how are you doing!!
Hello Caroline how are you doing today?
It's impossible to explain how a song can move you ... but this song may be the best example.
The world will never be the same anymore. Our children have lost their innocence 😢 there's no respect... all our society act angry... It's sad...
We have to shelter them that's all. :(
I'm still innocent, I respect elders like no tomorrow, I even end up apologizing for no reason

Especially with the pairing of Newman and Redford, this movie was going to be great anyway. Was there anything that could have possibly made it better? You bet. Add this song, done up just right by Mr. Thomas. The world was traversing hard times back then, too. We continue to need such great escapes.
Just discussing with hubby how the movie-ologists can't figure out why it is so popular. It provides that touch of sweetness that really highlights everything else in the movie, IMHO.
@@brendabrink6192 One of the truly great tracks to one of the truly great movies - really the three of them - and that song - seemed to capture a time, but more, the hearts beauty within all times
As little kids, my sister and I would sing this song. We would either be riding our bikes or walking down our street...just a singing away. Not a care in the world - Prayers that Mr. Thomas will be ok.
Un tema precioso.
Bless Burt Bacharach for co-writing this wonderful song with Hal David. RIP, Burt, thank you for many beautiful songs - you'll be missed very much.

I loved this song as a young boy growing up in the 60s/70s. Now I'm 'revisiting' it as an adult: part of my 'campfire' set
My parents got a little music box that played this song when they first got married in 1991. It unbelievably still works after 32 years.
I remember playing with it when I was little and loving the tune. Damn this brought back memories.
RIP Burt and BJ. May your music forever live on in our hearts.

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Robert Redford and Paul Newman also that gorgeous actress from “The Graduate “whose name I forget. Burt Bacharach, BJ Thomas and what sounds like Herb Albert on trumpet. I’m 69 and it must have been close to 1969, the year I graduated from high school. I caught a good slice of the golden age. This song reminds me of my dear friend Julie. It is her favorite song and describes her attitude perfectly...I’ll always love her.
Katherine Ross: A beauty!!!!
@@johnkarls2132 thanks Tim. Now I remember thanks to you. I also remembered her other role as the bride in “the Graduate”. A little known fact is that they show him going to Santa Barbara through a tunnel on route 101. In reality, the tunnel exists but it moves traffic away from Santa Barbara. All the locals that were in the movie theatre, started laughing when they saw that scene, but it was just a good shot and worth using.
One of the most beautiful women that ever appeared on film and you forget her name?

The actress was Katherine Ross (from "The Graduate" (1967) with Dustin Hoffman.
