Great video! Thanks for sharing the problem and solution! I don't have this issue on my Xterra but I'll try to make.sure I don't by keeping my transmission fluid in check.
I have a 2008 and was not having any weird noises. However, I am a maintenance freak and when I bought the truck, standard maintenance was not done. I did the research and putting Matic S (synthetic) vs. Matic J. I went to the dealer and they could not advise me. However, knowing that the same transmission is being used in a 2015 model that Nissan recommends Matic S, well you know, I went with Matic S. I changed mine twice at 100 mile interval about 5,000 miles ago and the transmission never misses a shift and never makes any whining noises.
love the rim/tire combination, took my 07 xterra to a mechanic shop (towed) told me it needed a new engine, i didn't believe it called another mechanic to come to my home he told me my driver side cats were plugged and he was right, that is why my engine was missing and no power. front cat was hollow but its contents went into the downstream converter and it was packed. put on a new front converter and punched out the back one it runs perfect now and passed emissions test. don't trust it if you don't believe it!
Dame man...I remember coming across your posting awhile back..and said "Dame that's sucks"..yet here I am having the Very...Very same Problem..r you kidding me bro!?lol..WOW..YOUR A LIFE SAVER..GATTA GET A FLUSH AND GET THE MATIC J
That year of the frontier from 05 to 2011 would get smod strawberry milkshake of death where the coolant would mix with the transmission fluid from the radiator faulty design
It boggles my mind how so many vehicles have tranny problems, when most people will not simply keep fresh fluids in them. Unless you trade every 3-4 yrs, then u really need to be knowledgeable of how to properly maintain your vehicle. Apparently you can't depend on automotive shops or mechanics to guide u. Glad u had enough common sense to take care of the problem.
You were told it was the timing chain because the whine from the secondary tensioners makes the same sound if it's not loose enough to cause a rattle yet. That's what makes this hard to diagnose. Mine just started and I have to localize it first because it doesn't follow ANY of the usual symptoms (other than the noise) for either problem. Doesn't whine when cold, only once the thermostat opens. Changes a little bit with the RPM at 1500 rpm or less. The weird thing is, it goes away above 1700 rpm. Happens whether you are in park, neutral, or in gear. Have a couple of suggestions to chase down besides the 2 standard ones.
@@foxbodystang8587 Yep. Secondary hydraulic tensioners not getting enough oil, which was my fault. I had skipped replacing the filter in the winter when I changed my oil. Its a 10 micron filter so it got to a point where it was clogged enough that it was constricting the oil flow. Ran an oil flush, which I normally don't do, changed the oil and filter and the problem was gone. Ran on conventional oil and a cheap filter for a week to get all the flush out of the nooks and crannies and then went back to synthetic, but now using a typical 20 micron oil filter recommended for synthetics.
. i used to be a nissan master tech. S is good for D and J but you cant go the other way around. those trucks were popular for the radiator busting the trans cooler and intermixing the fluid as well.
That's good to know. I had recently changed my Transmission oil as well, but only because it was an 06 4.0 SE Crew Cab that an older uncle of mine own but feared driving because it was to big for him. It only had 37k miles on it and as of today it only has 40k on her ad I only use it when I go on Vacation because it's in Puerto Rico, I live in the States. So it's basically a Vacation Ride for me. I read up on these trucks and saw it had a few issues, like the transmission oil mixing with motor oil do to crack in radiator. Knows as SMOD/Strawberry Milkshake Of Death ☠️? Also the respirator at the rear axel would rust shut damaging the seals on your axel. So you would have to upgrade that also and change it to a plastic one, or add a respirator in the inside of your taillight area or under the hood? For Transmission I used a Castrol Oil recommended in the ClubFrontier.org forums, it was a Castrol Transmax Transmission fluid, not sure it was the right one as it said CVT on it? I haven't had any issues in it as of yet. So I am praying for the best. I actually went to the dealer and bought the original transmission fluid drove it for 500 miles, then flushed out that dealer "Jmatic ?" oil and put in the Castrol Transmax Transmission all and so far so good. The dealer did not have extra oil to sell and I didn't feel like driving two hours to the next dealer, so went with Castrol Transmax 🤷🏻♂️ Thanks for sharing. This will help many others.
I have a 2007 Nissan Frontier crew cab SE.. I had the timing chain cover replaced by the dealer at 8,000 as they recommended. A year or 2 later I was hearing this annoying few seconds rattle sound at cold start for almost 4 years. I read from others that Nissan service told them it was normal and that vehicles "new" on the lot made that sound.. It was earlier this year it totally went away by itself or when I then started using Nissan brand oil filter.. Till this day all is good.. People in the parking would turn their heads when I use to turn on my truck in the morning to go home. It only now hit 91,000 miles.
got a 2008 frontier....when the truck is OFF, there is a hissing noise coming from the fuse box....any idea whats causing that?? ECU maybe? sounds just like an air leak but we checked everything....and it's from that biggest fuse box....lemme know thank ya...
How many miles on your truck when you changed transmission fluid? I got a o7 also.. got the letter about the radiator promblem at 80,000 miles changed out the radiator no problems so far. Got a 162,000 on mine now
Do you have any recordings of the noise before you changed the tran fluid? I have been chasing a wheeping/buzzing sound for a couple months now - and the tranny shop says "no way!" Fluid was last changed by Nissan dealer at least 10 years and 100k, miles ago. FWIW - the sound will sometimes stop when i put the truck in Park.
Man, that was long winded!! So you said "ever since I purchased it there was this noise in the engine". First, why would you buy it without an inspection since you don't have enough knowledge? Secondly, an automatic transmission relies upon the proper amount of fluid. From the way you described the buzzing, it may have not had enough fluid, causing the pump to cavitate and introduce air. It's a good thing you "fixed" it by ensuring the proper amount was in there. You also may want to check your coolant as the earlier models of Frontiers have a known issue of the trans cooler leaking fluid into coolant and coolant into the trans fluid.
MATIC-S is the direct replacement for MATIC-J. You should use Nissan ATF in your Nissan vehicles. Don't buy aftermarket from the autoparts store. Don't just drain. You are not getting all of the junk in the filter or the gunk in the bottom of the pan. When you drain the pan, there is still over a quart left in the bottom of the pan. If you are doing the job, do it right. Replace the 10mm screw on the dipstick. ruclips.net/video/E1y1inE0FZ0/видео.html
Hey there! What tires do you have? I’m trying to find the source of my buzzing noise🥲 it sounds almost like yours, however my transmission oil is fine, I still need to do it however so I’ll try that
Good looking out brother ! Most mechanics would rip us off and have us frustrated and still looking for answers. 🙏🏼💪🏼👌🏼
Thank you brother. Solves alot of issues. BTY beatiful frontier you have. Thanks again!!!
My 2007 Xterra is doing the same thing! Thanks for the video!
MATIC S supersedes MATIC J but not the vice-versa , so in your case it is ok to use MATIC S instead.
Was gonna do a transmission fluid drain and replacement at minimum on my next oil change. Definitely doing it now

I was just told that Matic J is no longer made and replaced by Matic S
Nice truck, glad you solved the problem.
Preventative maintenance .your supposed to change it out every 30-60k
That year of the frontier from 05 to 2011 would get smod strawberry milkshake of death where the coolant would mix with the transmission fluid from the radiator faulty design

My symptoms are pretty much like yours. Did you figure out what it was?

Are those headlights aftermarket ?
Nissan dealer told me Valvoline max life is same as Nissan trans fluid

I didn't think anyone had a CVT in a truck
Sorry guys that i didnt reply. I just noticed all the messages! My notifications were not on!! Any questions plz reach back.
Thanks all!
How many miles on the 2007 when you encountered this issue with the transmission?
ATF S got it, I give it a shot tomorrow
Thanks 🙏 for that information

Amsoil sells good stuff, should be a good alternative to Matic S right?

Why do you turn on when have a winning noise..?
no cvt on any frontier

Sorry just saw this. Try the Trans oil. You will be surprised. I have Wildpeak tires
255/70/17
No Nissan trucks frontier or titans have a CVT
No
6:43
I would call bullshit and had the sample tested to see if it was Nissan fluid .that dealer could of lied about the maintenance
Yo is this frontier on offer up? I was looking around and it looks like this one with the same driveway
No its not for sale.
you gotta clean machine
My 2013 takes Matic S
It’s your timing chain and tensioners. That is a Nissan Pathfinder problem.
Plastic tensioner guides wear out
Lol..it the tensioners
Love the wheel tire setup. What are the sizes? And do they rub? Thanks @jagarage79
Was gonna do a transmission fluid drain and replacement at minimum on my next oil change. Definitely doing it now
