Whoops! Looks like the portal address for Himinumer II was missing a glyph. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. For those of you who can translate glyphs, the full address is 30A100155D02.
For the rest of us (myself included), you can find the full address by clicking on the postcard here: www.deep-space-travel-network.com/destination/himinumer-ii/

First and foremost: Thanks for the update on the address! I as a puzzle player looked at the hex string and could figure out that a glyph was missing at the end and that it's none of those already visible at 09:56 .
Anyway, is THIS a secret feature? When jumping, your ship isn't centered, but off to one side, and moves to the other side of your screen -- and that cycle repeats once per jump. My theory is that it's a subtle "progress bar" for users with slow PCs (so when you push the jump button and go grab a coffee, you can come back and immediately know if it's safe to grab a snack, too). Has this been confirmed already? Or debunked? Or is it official rather than secret?

The polar twilight was not always a feature. It was actually introduced in NEXT. I recorded a video of the day/night behavior at the poles shortly before NEXT dropped. The time of day would change rapidly as you went around the pole. That’s because time of day was only dependent on your longitude, never your latitude. Obviously this changed with NEXT, and now at the poles, it is always twilight and solar panels do indeed work 100% of the time, but never at full capacity.

Great video Kanaju! I remember in the early days using a trade route to find those crunch 6-pad trade posts. Back-in-the-day those were so good and were quite rare (only a few on each world). I used to always build my first bases around them and would go out of my way to stick a save beacon on ones I found for others... just another feature they normalized, sadly.
Some of MY personal ones are rare NPC conversations. I remember finding on a few occasions talking with a Vy'keen. Something about drawing a massive exocraft. One reply was to take the image pad and add absurdly comically large GUNS to it. Or helping with an interstellar nuclear strike launched TO a system... then going there and helping a Gek deflect it by providing the data from the first encounter in the warring system!

About the trade route ending in the ocean -- could it be that the route was a straight line going through the planet and ending where it intersected the far side of the planet, with a trade post at _that_ point? (Probably not, the idea is probably too straightforward for anyone interested in raytracing, so somebody would have brought it up during the last two weeks.) Anyway, how would you even check that? Find somebody flying down the route and shadowing (pun intended) them?

Manage your expeditions right and you will never have to repair them. Also sending more ships into a mission makes more ships to advance in their ranks. Sending one more ship even if you do not have to makes this ship to advance its rank. That is how you build a fleet with S class frigates. I am not sure but maybe more ships bring also more profit from each expedition, need to check this.

Melee boost tip: Do the normal melee boost, but stay low to the surface, and while maintaining momentum skim the surface while doing another melee boost. This will cause you to skip across the surface much faster than the typical melee boost.
It works fantastically on low grav planets.

  • @HD_10180
    @HD_10180 2 года назад +1

I'm pretty sure the nightless phenomenon can work with any given planet or moon, it's easy to find by flying in the atmosphere of a planet, going into photo mode, changing the time, observing the path of the sun, and flying a decent distance away. Rinse and repeat until the sun doesn't move across the sky, but starts to stick around the horizon. If the sun dips down a little too far in a certain direction, (eg. it turns to night for a little bit) go towards where the sun dips to make it day for that spot. I wouldn't say to rely on the poles because the sun can go a little too high or too low depending on the planet you're on, which begs the question, do planets in nms have axial tilts?

Trade routes still have a value. When you character is new, say you just got your ship repaired and into space, you likely haven't unlocked space stations where the icon shows on your hud as soon as you enter space. If you look carefully, and find where the routes converge in space, you will be able to locate the space station.

There are planets with permanent night at one of the poles too. I realized it by accident the 1st time cus i was building and eventually said "wtf why aren't my solar power batteries charged yet?"
If the game had an indicator that showed which way the planet spins it would be easier to find.
NMS is backward though... the planet doesn't actually spin, the suns move around the sky. Either way, if its path were indicated you could figure it out easier.

    • @Kanaju
      @Kanaju  2 года назад +1

G Woody, you're correct. I suppose I should have explained it better in my video, but whether an area is all day or all night is sort of dependent on whether the planet is above or below the orbital plane of the sun. At least I believe so. Or in another way, the tilt of the sun's orbit rather than the tilt of the planet. Thanks for your comment.

I love watching a sunset and night scape on a planet. I found one where you can watch the moon and stars rotate around the horizon. It was gorgeous!
    Great video btw!

Thanks! And yes, I believe you're correct. I remember people weren't sure if HG would continue to support it until the player animations with NEXT. That's when it was confirmed for a lot of us.
And that planet sounds cool! Thanks for commenting!

it indeed was a bug and was removed for a while. it came back with a patch at some point and they removed it AGAIN, replacing it with rocket boots. at some point later they brought it back intentionally, i'm unsure when.

One more thing. You can double tap the jump button. If you hold the second tap, you can be boosted like the melee boost. However, melee boost can't be used to climb steep cliffs, boost double tap can.

Not sure if it is one you left out but you almost showed it in the video. If you land on one of your frigates when it doesn't need to be repaired the captain gives you a reward. What it is depends on the type. Industrial gives you minerals, trade units, exploration a point of interest, and combat gives you a salute. Never have seen it documented and was surprised when it happened. I was going to take a picture on a frigate when it happened the first time. Now I visit all the time.

I thought I had the frigate game down, but the little nugget about being able to visit them on route because they exist in real time is incredible. Totally going to do it, going to send out some underpowered expeditions next time just to see how it goes.
Also the bit about the NPC's on the bridge is incredible, I hope we can still do that, but I wonder what the way freighter bases work now

You can super fast melee boost through derelicts! Hold Q(melee button) and W(walk forward) and never let go meanwhile, hold F(analysis visor button) and whenever F is released, the melee occurs with no cooldown, so you can just spam F and you will be speeding on the ground very fast. also right after the melee if you hold F again you can control your direction like you are drifting! I don’t really know how to describe this i just stumbled upon and use it to speedrun derelict freighters.

I spent a lot of time building a base recently that caused me to stay on one planet longer than I normally would in one session. I was joking to my buddy that it seemed like the night there was longer than the day. Now, having heard that axial tilt exists in NMS, I'll have to go back and explore other parts of the planet; see if I can find all-day or all-night sections. Thanks for the tip! (Also enjoyed hearing about the real-time traveling frigates.)

Later i remember playing after a few months with two random players and after about ten minutes I hear “How are you going that fast everywhere what are you doing?” And showed them how to do the boost. Lol was a huge mind blown moment for them and was hilarious for me to hear over the mic.

The best places to find nightless worlds are systems with multiple stars. Because they have several light sources, planets will have more surface area that are constantly exposed to light. This is perfect for using solar panels without batteries, you're too lazy to look for EM hotspots :)

Been playing over 700 hours.... Had seen people doing the melee boost, but never knew how. Thanks for pointing it out.
However, it seems that the power jump can also be used to attain the same speeds. My jetpack is on the spacebar, and I just do a quick double tap which kicks off the jump and jetpack.
Just tested it and they both seem to go the same speed.

I just recently started playing (now that No Man's Sky is on the Switch), but I did notice the day/night thing and was mad impressed. The two examples that come to mind are: the first planet I built a base on, at least the area where I built the base, is twilight/night most of the time, so I ended up building an extra solar panel. Also, I once went to a moon that I hated because it was one of those planets that had freezing conditions at night, but it was almost always dark there because the planet it circled was waaay too big. The poor horizon/sky was practically all planet

There is a high chance that your frigates will go through systems you've already explored so I figured the real time mission thing out a while back becouse I had to backtrack to complete some missions and i got to watch my frigate actually warped in a few systems after I had a arrived which was pretty cool, I even had it warp into a space battle I had encountered defending another fleet when I arrived, thankfully it was far enough away to not be involved

  • @KextroHardy

one of the favorite things i have found was a planet so small that u fly right above the surface and reach the other side of the planet within minutes. That's how i discovered that the day and night cycles was decided by orientation of the sun because i could rapidly switch between day and night by just flying against the direction of the sun.
Also when you use camera mode you can change the time of the scene which will physically move the sun to the correct position for that time.

02:39 There once existed a trading station, now, since this game had (if i recall it back well, 2x or maybe 3?) planets overhaul where all planets have changed their looks (the random generate thing), the lines, the ld trading lines have not changed, they remain as they where build in day 1 of this game. But yes, I always was following those to find a trading port (back when we didn't had the scanner to find trading ports).
