    One extra tip for uncharted/uninhabited star systems: No scanners are needed to find them at all. Just set your Filter to search by Lifeform, and all White stars will be uncharted empty systems.

    One of my favorite types of base to build is a cozy wood lodge on a cold planet.
    For more min-max typr base building, I try to find all three Hotspots (Mineral, Gas, and Power) and if they're within 700-800u of each other, draw a triangle from their positions and set up a base in the center.

    To quickly scan for planets if you have a freighter, you can warp to a system, hit the system probe (a technology room you can place on your freighter) and instantly see all the system's planet's biomes

    I’m glad to see you back with more NMS content, especially base building! Your previous tutorials inspired me to give glitch building a try, now I’m addicted! (Thanks a lot!🤣)
    I just spent the better part of 3 days searching for a stormless planet with floating islands, and explored until I found 2 within 200 units of each other and built a suspension bridge between them for a pretty sweet base!
    I did notice a few unique considerations when building on these floating islands. First of all, they are all made of “foundational” terrain that cannot be manipulated. In addition, the invisible terrain boundaries don’t always align with the visual boundaries, which can cause issues.
    Base parts can get placed “inside” terrain permanently, so that if you try to delete them, they result in a “nothing to delete” error despite the fact they are clearly visible. You can also inadvertently walk off the “edge” of the island several feet before the actual precipice!
    One last oddity: the bolder that has the source spring for streams and waterfalls is not really there, you can pass right through it. It would make a good location to hide anything you wanted out of sight like a base computer or electrical cloaking unit.

    I like going to the large ocean area of a planet because you can almost aleays find decent size islands that are perfectly flat

    Good tips.
    I've always had good luck finding a cave planet (lots of large caves visible as you first enter the planet's atmosphere), then finding an archive station. If in a hilly/mountainous area, one side of the archive station will often have large cave openings. There I build a base that incorporates both the caves and the archive station. None of these bases have ever had issues with terrain regeneration. Perhaps it is the combination of POI and natural caves.

    • @Beeblebum
      @Beeblebum  24 дня назад

      I don't think we actually had any terrain changes any more since the Archives... I forgot when those appeared.
      But Origins was the last update that actually changed Terrain formations (and they reverted many of those).

      @@BeeblebumBefore “Worlds 1” I had a serene base on a swamp planet with no storms. I built a pathway through a short cave to a naturally occurring mud hut in a small copes of trees overlooking a small lake with glowing crystals rising out of the water.
      I had to delete it after I returned to find a rock covered landscape, no cave, no hut, and no crystals (even after the 2 patches).😢

      You could only build there. When they changed that, these rooms just became Wild Base computers.

    Instead of building one large base, I prefer building a series of smaller mining bases and outposts connected with portals to have instantenious access to crucial resources. When arriving to a new system, where I have no base, I look for a renewable resource that is currently not available in my network, build a small outpost next to it. I see these small bases also as "anchors" to the furthest points, I have reached.

    • @SuperChaoticus
      @SuperChaoticus 18 дней назад

      Same. I have one big base that I use just to mess around with building ideas, one large base that's just a giant farm, then a series of small bases for everything I need to construct Stasis Devices. (gotta have something to give out to new players)

      Concerning your windows changing, that is due to the contextual building - You can avoid this by selecting the variant part straight from the menu.
      I shortly explained it in this guide: ruclips.net/video/mnxMzm3_Ykw/видео.html

      I don't think there is a surefire method for finding the preferred depths - To be able to find water planets you should fly to systems that show WATER in the Galactic Map information screen.
