Thanks for watching!
hell yeah! that was great! i never would have thought of that trick with the impact. i need to do my drivers side front bearing. now i feel better about it
Cool man, it's really not too diffcult!!
Instablaster.
Dude, you're the best Honda guy on RUclips. I just bought a 93 Civic hatchback. Looks like the parts are pretty much the same. Your videos are a big help.
You're correct, it's the same process completely.
Not better than erick the car guy lol
Everything is a matter of opinion. 😁
Garage Built Hondas im just messim around man, your work is great too!!
Canada here...thanks J...just did hub n bearing...love not going to garage lol...peace man
👍
wow, I've been working on honda's for 10 years now.. and you just blew my mind with your ways of changing out the bearing and stuff without having to use a press.. awesome !
😀 thanks man!! Appreciate it!
This video is golden to rebuild spindles😎
I usually put a slit in the bearing race at an angle. Use a cutting disc then knock a chisel into the gap to open it, the cut doesn’t even need to go all the way through, takes seconds 👍
Great channel! I don’t even own a Honda but love it!
I've since seen that method, I'm definitely going to try that next time, thanks for the input and thanks especially for watching!!
Nice video. Main reason I am here is my lower front ball joint just broke yesterday on my CRX and I am familiarizing myself with this procedure. Thanks brother!! Nice wagovan btw....
Glad to help!
I love that this video popped up on my home ... this is what I’m gettting done now on my build. Very helpful thanks !
You're welcome, glad it helps!
Best how-to I've seen in a long time! Continued to watch even though I knew what you were doing... Good job man.
Really appreciate the comment!! Thanks a lot!!
THIS BLOKE IS A LEGEND LOVE HIS CHANNEL
Thank you!
honestly uploaded this video the day I had to replace my knucke/hub assembly haha helped a bunch!!!
Glad to lend a virtual hand!👍🏻
I just did both bearings with your bolt washer method. Worked great. Thank you
Excellent!! You're welcome
Always so satisfying watching these over again. 👍
nice video jon! this is exactly what I need to do to my Si, I already bought the parts and I'm ready to go so this video is perfect!!!
You know I'm down to lend a hand!
I like that fully threaded rod idea. 👍
Great video man! Probably the best way to do it on you're drive way without a press!!
Easily!!
Awesome thanks! I needed some help trying to get my new rotors on!
Here's a tip on the arp studs install. If you don't have access to a press you can use an impact wrench and a deep well socket with washers and a lug nut and zip it down.
I've seen that before. Not sure bad way either. I read about someone complain that the excessive torque installing them that way was bad for the longevity of the threads, but I haven't seen any proof to that claim.
A must video to add to favorites playlist for every dyi ef owner, awesome video!
I agree, our cars need these parts usually asap!
Like your videos, pretty cool the best bang for the buck brake pads i ever used are Nissin they last me 2 yrs, keep up the good work..✌
Thank you
This is simply the best video for doing this job. Thanks for making it man!
You're welcome, and thanks for the comment!!
Yup...fun, like you know...one side lower ball joint bout 30 mins...other side, grinder to cut seized ball joint stem, drill out using bout 10 drill bits til reached 1/2 inch, still not coming, bout to quit, last turn of drill, thin sleeve of what was left spun n popped out... just thought I'd share as I know you know...peace
Yuck
Please pay attention to the hub bearing install. Seating it by pressing on the inner race ruined the bearing. Any bearing pressed in by the inner race - when the seat is the outer race - will shorten the life of the bearing.
When you mickey mouse an all-thread tool like the one he’s assembled - which I have - use a reducing bell coupling (for pipe fittings) to press only on the outer race to seat the hub bearing or a thick metal ring that covers both races and won’t flex. Note that the hub itself was pressed in properly - pushing only against the inner race of the bearing.
Good info, and good tip. Definitely smarter for extended bearing life.
Damn Jon you made it look so easy lol I like that trick you did with the washers and the big threaded bolt. Never seen that technique.
😎
May or may not be referencing this video in the junkyard tomorrow 🤣 An Ex model FINALLY showed up
Oh snap! Noice!
dude I've been looking for tutorial for installing extended wheel studs. this video was awesome. you earned yourself a subscriber.
I appreciate it man, glad I could help!!
Just bought a couple stickers from your shop. Now I just need to buy a Honda! 😁
Thank you so much Joe!!! And yes you do!!
Wait you have a shop with your stickers what it called

Thanks going have to check it out I have an 89 civic automatic only thing that sucks but I have an 02 that a standard but about to do an engine swamp for a v tech engine going need a new wiring harnest
dude your the man! I bet your wagon feels as smooth as better
Man, it feels so much better than before. I've been driving it a lot lately and love it!
Nice I need to do that to my del sol. If only you lived close by so we can drive around for fun.
That'd be a lot of fun!
very well explained! i like that home made wheel bearing installer tool.
😎
Yes , You are the man John. that bearing install kit , its just amazing lol good one . good work dude.
Thanks Jean!
love these civic wagon project videos, they're very descriptive and clear! Also another reason why is because I too have a white civic wagon and it brings back memories when I worked on mine. Keep up the great informational videos! =]
Thanks Billy, you made it sound like you still have yours, or its sold?
The actual proper way to retract the caliper pistons is to get a fluid catch bottle with a hose and open the bleeder valve, but nobody including me even do that unless the vehicle is known for ABS pump or Brake master cylinder issues
Lol
wao super great work and explained all new parts
Thanks Damian
thks man! ya they rattle wen i hit bumps only! so im going to check dat out! probably replace all the lil metal brackets then.
Let me know if that fixes it!
You do excellent work my friend!
Thank you
like the conent, watching the rest tomorrow
Thanks Keegan!
Canada here..."feeeels gooood!" Lol, Happy New Year
I enjoy watching your videos man, keep posting more.
Thanks Enrique
Thanks for the how to on the wheel bearings brotha! I was waiting for this vid. Setup looks good too, the ef game is strong with you lol!
Lol, thanks!!
Thanks 🙏 bro your videos help me a lot
You're welcome
Just had axels replaced and ty rod? Cost me over 600.00 ...must learn to be my own mechanic. Still lots of rattling going on when going over small bumps. They said it was struts? Thanks for the concise video. I have a 91 civic hatch back basic with 139k.
Sorry to hear. Definitely could be struts, maybe some of your bushings need replacing also though.
I gotta do this with my 89 integra soon. The whole suspension is shot besides brand new struts up front.
It'll make a big difference!
nice. I can definitely use some new lower ball joints. keep it up
Yes to do, tearing people up in that Crx!
gives me inspiration to work on my fozz
Fozz, what's that?
Subaru Forester! mine is a 1997 s/tb from japan that I bought locally from a friend that had imported it years ago.
oh dam! just made my Saturday! big up$ homie! good shit!
Nice, thanks man!
nice vid, have a 92 si and i did everything you just did to yours, keep it up
Thanks Jose!
man this is awesome this satisfied me. Great work!
+Blue Boy thanks blue boy!! Appreciate the comment!
So good man! Love the videos! So helpful when I'm working on my EFs! Keep it up.
Thanks Olie, anytime!!
Anyone that drive Honda have to learn this
Thanks for that!!
you should make a video of you rebuilding the calipers. i just picked up ex brakes after watching one of you videos and i cant get the piston out of the caliper because i don't have air tools.
I'll try, I haven't had an opportunity to do that yet. I'd like to perform one too!
if you have a bike pump, you can modify a valve stem to put over the bleeder screw, then pump away.
Quick tip you should nail those boards together
Agreed
Like always great video John. Keep them coming.
You got it brotha!!
Thanks for the great video man! Why did you decide to reuse original old wheel hubs instead of getting new ones?
👍. Was just saving some money at the time, I always buy new ones now.
you should paint those calipers to match the wheel paint!
I want to, I just always have a never ending to do list in my garage that the cool small details take a back seat most of the time. 😕
Im right there with you man ive been meaning to repaint my rims for almost a year but its always something with my cb7. Not long now till every part on the fucker has been replaced.
Lol, that last sentence sounds like it came out of my mouth! Haha
this video helped me alot. great vid thank you
You're welcome Chris!
"Get your rubber... boot back on there as quickly as possible"
Yes, or the outcome could be life changing! Lmao
Jon. Do you remember what size stock you used? And also what size washers they were? I'm getting ready to do this same thing minus the breaks lol. If you remember what size stock it was that would be great. Really helpful video by the way!!
Sizes I don't have any idea. I bought the parts over 4 years ago. I took my wheel bearing to Ace Hardware and got the largest one that would fit through the center, then grabbed a bunch of different washers and the nuts to finish it off. I actually need new washers as they all have become slightly bent and the middles are grinding down from the nut!! I've definitely got my money worth!
Jon Widmer thanks so much for the quick reply. That's what I was thinking I'll do but I was just curious if you remembered. You definitely have got your use out of them. In the video they look used.
I like this washer press :O
Simple, right?
Great walkthrough! Didn't realize how many pieces were inside a hub. Question: My 91 si hatch has stock knuckles with a B16a engine. Need to replace the CV shafts. What do I tell the parts store? 90-93 integra I have heard. Thanks.
Thanks Kevin!
Get 90-93 Integra axles. Both the ABS and the NON-ABS work perfect. The abs will just have the groove around the end for the ABS sensor.
Thank you for such informative upload!!!
Lim0ride - You're welcome!
I just figured out I need drums for the rears lol since everything is stock
Ok cool, I'll be doing the drums on the wagon soon too!
you should have given the torque value of the axle nut..............and i don't get why you don't have a bearing separator instead of grinding the inner race off of the hub. otherwise a nice job..........helpful........
Is it really necessary to remove the whole hub to just do lower ball joints? Thanks for your videos btw 👍👍
No. I was doing more than just the joints though so much easier to remove.
thanks
Help please. How can i find rear suspention struts. The koni might work because you can adjust the level of the ring for longer springs. Trying to keep the RT stock height.
Try googling shocks specifically for an 88-91 Wagon. Hopefully someone makes sense replacement. You may even want to check your local auto parts store too!
Could you by chance link the brake rotors I’m having a heck of a time finding ones the fit with stock brakes
Check the link in the description.
Great videos!
Thank you!
Great video
Thanks Luis
Hey I'm about to do all this and quick question I have is when installing the upper control arm, do you tighten the bushing bolts before or after you lower the car on the ground? Im sure it's easier before you drop it but will that mess up anything? I'm tying to figure is out before I start, thanks.
Tighten them but don't over do it. Leaving them slightly looser than most bolts will allow them to move with the A arm.
You can also use a floor jack and lift the entire assembly when you're finished and raise it to where you wheel would sit as if it were on the ground. Then tighten them up.
Update of the wagon coming soon i hope
Hopefully! It might be going to s new home within the next few months.
appreciate the info I'll hit u back when all done, agian thnks!
Question !!!are all crx civic components interchangeable? I’m looking to do the same as you but most of the items on eBay say for all civic crx models except for si models I thought they were all the same expect for the wheel bearing on some ! Thanks in advance for the help
Yes, the ones that are different are the HF and 4 speed STD models.
So I know its not normal thing to do but on my 85 civic shuttle is it possible to lift it a bit it scrapes going down my dirt driveway? hell I thought my 83 Mercedes 240D was low!
I have seen some lifted, but doubt you want something that extensive. It may need some new shocks and an adjustment or replacement to the torsion bar setup in the rear.
i love the tips ! thumbs up !
great vedio
Thanks man!
i did my brakes on the da9 the other day but now they rattle a little, everthing works fine but wondering y they rattle any suggestions greatly appreciated thnks bro! Hoonda's 4 LIFE!
Check the dust shield and also the small metal brackets that hold the brake pads in place. Those get old and sometimes do not hold the pads in place well. AutoZone sells a kit to replace all of those metal brackets if that's your problem.
I have a question i need to change the front wheel hub for my 91 Honda Civic hatchback DX but I can’t find any they only showing the wagon and the sedan wheel hubs would that fit my 91 Honda Civic
They're all the same except for the 90-91 Civic sedan ex and the HF CRX. Those have different hubs.
When u hammered the ball joint in did it leave any damage on top of the ball joint I am about to do that way
+Joseph da zimmerman It leaves a few marks of course but nothing that will have any lasting effect or damage.
I recently did this to my crx . I put replace the front wheel bearing and installed hard race extended studs . And one I put everything back together. There is still some play on the hub. I’ve put the axel back in and tightened it and there is still play. Is this normal?
Minimal amount is fine but shouldn't be excessive.
Will you explain to me on the bseries swaps not having the dust cover?
Which dust cover?
did you forget the dust shield? great vid btw
I removed it. I hate the "dust" shields. They don't do anything but look ugly. 😀
@@GarageBuiltHondas oh i see..i hate it when they get bent and rub on the rotor..
Exactly, then they just look ugly. Most on these cars are already damaged slightly. I like how clean it looks without it too.
Awesome video man!
Thanks Coda!!
I recently picked upped a wagon and I noticed the splash shield was damaged. I was wondering if sedan uses the same splash shield as the wagon? Have you ever ran a vehicle without a splash as well? Thank you!
I believe they are different. I always run them without the shields as most have been damaged. I also do not daily drive any of my EF's though.
Garage Built Hondas Thank you Ill try running the vehicle without a splash shield. Appreciate the feedback.
YW!
great video as always keep it up!
Thanks Jesus!
plz make a dual point to multipoint conversion video I need to it on my crx !!!
Daniel Grajeda working on it!
Daniel Grajeda need an ecu? harness? dizzy? I got it all. just went obd1 and s300 in my rt4wd. Hit me up mate. I'll ship and sell everything for CHEAP. dmurrayyy@gmail.com email me and I'll send you my number
How long did those bearings last 🤔
Still using to this day. I talk to the new owner of the wagon and he drove the car from Texas to Utah and uses it up there for school now and no issues so far.
great video man! I'm just wondering what kind of coilovers you have? and how do they ride?
Function Form Type 1, they feel really good on my wagon. Not harsh but sporty!
This is a bit off topic from the video but do you know of any places or brands that just have slotted rotors for all 4 wheels...btw if it matters i have an Integra brake setup on my eg sedan ... thank you in advance!!
Stoptech amzn.to/3bpvNmw
Garage Built Hondas sweet thank you
How do you fill up the ball joint rubber boot with grease
A new one will have grease already installed unless it has the bolt on fitting which allows you to add grease from that fitting.
I heard drilled rotors aren't really good they crack after some time plus they wear brake shoes faster, should've gotten a vented one, or slotted
I've used them before on daily drivers, no problems for years. The pads I have a lifetime warranty on so I swap them for new ones whenever I need/want to at AutoZone. lol
Unless the car is driven hard then you'll excessively wear the pads/rotors. My track car has slotted/drilled also and has been to 8 events and no cracking yet and I'm super hard on those brakes. They are eBay rotors and pads too.
Thanks for the heads up, I wasn't sure anyway
+team forlife Anytime man, I like the way they look. My wagon is breaking any speed records anytime soon. haha
+J Wid Films lol I'm looking forward to it go for it man
thats not true, who ever told you that dont know what there talking about.its the oppesite the pads last longer and now they dont crack.unless like j wild said you going for land speed record.
Great videos very detailed thanks ;)
Thank you!
Dude I’m lost with this wheel bearing ordeal! I bought a set of 89 crx si knuckles for my D16a6 swap into my std hatch. Now every time I’ve ordered front wheel bearings for these knuckles, they’re ending up to be too small as if they’re for the dx and std models. I’ve ordered from eBay and rockauto for the 1.6 Si model and both companies sent the same wheel bearings I had which are incorrect. I’m really at a stand still and kinda stumped. Do you have a part number for any wheel bearings from a crx si? I can’t seem to get the correct one for these knuckles.
What's the stamping on the side of the knuckles?
KL-14 and KL-15
Really? 90-91 Civic Sedan EX knuckles would have RH3-A or LH3-A. All other crx and Civic DX/Si/HF knuckles would have RH3-H or LH3-H.
great vid man!
Thanks Israel!
No problem man keep up the good work!
@ 15:15 So you Really don't have to push rubber boot thru??? Just remove and put on when you get ball joint thru! Since I noticed it fell off any way.?🤔
Yes. If you leave it on, you risk destroying it. You'll see what I mean when you get to that point. 👍
have you ever had any probs/ damage from installing ball joints with a hammer, like being stiff afterwards?
No, never had any problems at all. They should be pretty stiff to begin with. When they are loose is when the joint has gotten old and worn down so the joint moves easier then.
Garage Built Hondas yeah I took your advice and use the hammer method. they just seemed a bit stiffer than they were before.I bent the top plate of the ball joint just a little bit and was just seeing if that's ever been the case with you. I drove the car around and seems a bit stiffer.
Yes, it puts small indents on the joint but I have never had an issue.
Garage Built Hondas awesome man I'm probably just thinking too much into it laugh out loud. I've seen you talking about alignments before and I was wondering do you usually get stock specifications? What do you think about slight camber and 0 Tow on a daily driver have you ever did anything like that? Thanks man
Zero toe works perfect. As long as they set it to within spec on toe you'll get the best tire wear and handling. I run -2.5 camber now on my track car and usually -2.2 to -2.4 in my daily drivers. I like some just in case I want to take some turns a little harder when I'm feeling adventurous. Lol
I have a few questions regarding why my brake have no pressure I swapped everything master cylinder booster pads rotors calipers hose I'm slumped . any guidance . I bleed the brakes so many times idk what is wrong with them any advice I would greatly appreciate .
All brand new parts made for your specific car?
both front brake hose booster and master cylinder yes I used da rotors da calipers and the arm as well . I do have the other wagon calipers and arm
Are the calipers working properly? See if you can move the piston by hand.
okay so basically take off and rotor remove pad and just squeeze them right ? if I can sink the piston by hand that result in ? I truly appreciate your help !!
Possibly the piston inside the caliper is broken. It shouldn't move by hand. How were you bleeding the setup, with a self bleeding kit or someone's help?
Can you make a video on Pci upper spherical camber arms ?
Want to send me a set? Then I can make a video on them, I'd love to own some. 😁
Garage Built Hondas
Lol.. wish I was ballin. Would cool if Pci sends you, a set. I haven't found any videos or reviews on them. Btw are the hardrace bushings one of the best besides going spherical ?
I want to get some... eventually. They are pricey for me. I'm using the Energy Suspension UCA bushings and I really like those. I recently bought a set of the eBay ones, going to put them on the wagon soon. They seem just like the Energy ones too and were inexpensive.
Garage Built Hondas
Cool.. I have a few efs just like you, except for a crx. It's been 3 years since I've done anything new with them, was carried away with my ae86 and s13. Just got an evo x last year, too. But my efs always in my heart haha planning to get in the ef game again. My 90 civic si has a 99 spec type r and it's been sitting since 2014. Planning to fresh up the suspensions and fuel system. But yeah sick videos bro. I've never done or seen anyone replaced those lower knuckle ball joints lol and I've never did studs and bearings, so your videos are very helpful.

What’s the size of the threaded bolt n nuts you used?
I'm not sure. I went to Ace Hardware and found the largest threaded stock I could find and matching hardware.
hi is it possible to convert the hub to 5 lugs using ek9 hub?
You'll need to get the bearing machined to fit this knuckle. It'd probably be easier just using the knuckles/trailing arms from a CTR.
What springs and struts there are on wagovan?!
I have Function Form coilovers on it.
Thanks! I found the front rotors for my 91 ef but I can't find the rears on that eBay account. Do they sell rear rotors on there?
What brakes do you have on your car?
