I just set up an X01 derailleur using with a XTR cassette and since I didn't have the old B-gap adjustment tool but had spares of the new one I just took a pair of pliers and removed the inner part where it sits around the largest cog. Using the phone app to micro-adjust is great, as it assigns a numerical value. I have the AXS Gx upgrade with a 175 crank and Absolute Black 30t boost for SRAM. I just ordered some new components. I'm 70 and live up at 7000', so I've decided to put on a 165mm crankset to try easing joint stress. I also just ordered what I need to convert to AXS with Shimano. So, Microspline driver, XT 10-51 cassette, XT HG+ chain, and, I decided that, since Absolute Black makes an oval that is designed to be mounted on a SRAM crank but for use with a Shimano HG+ chain, I got that as well. I like the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gear spacing on Shimano more than SRAM, so I'm really looking forward to trying this out! The one question I had was on setting B-gap, which you answered. I'm thinking that the chain lengths are the same moving between SRAM and Shimano, though, correct?

Yes this is the way!! I've been running an AXS derailleur on my XTR drivetrains on two separate bikes for the past year without any issues! It simply works everytime with a perfect shift. The biggest point to getting flawless operation you hit very well. Proper B-gap adjustment set at sag is key!! I use a micrometer to get the 51t cog exactly at 46mm from the center of the top jockey wheel bolt while at sag. That combined with a properly measured chain using Shimano's 12 speed chain guide, and the shifting is perfect everytime especially under load!!
@@LoveMTB Yeah I've stuck to Shimano's new method for their 12 speed chains. I've seen a lot of guys have shifting issues while they try to chase the perfect B-gap setting which in the end always came down to an improper chain length because they used an older chain sizing method.
@@LoveMTB Yes I understand. I was talking about how I have seen a lot of people lately using the old pre 12 speed chain method and then never being able to get the shifting correct because the chain was the wrong length. I understand you are talking about using Sram's 12 speed method.
@@LoveMTB No, I was running full XO1 (non-AXS) then switched to full XTR, then removed the XTR derailleur to use XX1 AXS. I didn't experience any degradation in performance when switching to AXS. The perfect shift everytime was noticeable from the beginning though! From my experience it shifts just as good as full XTR did, only now I don't have to worry about the need to goose the lever slightly to shift up the cassette at times like I was used to with traditional derailleurs. I was running Di2 on my gravel bike and was longing to have that precise electronic shifting on my mtb, so I bit the bullet and bought the AXS. No regrets!!!
@@LoveMTB No worries bud! I appreciate your videos, always very detailed and informative! I prefer to get on my bike and ride around to do the fine tuning, which is easy with AXS. I find if I tune it at sag with me on it I can get it to perform better than when it's in the stand. Which is where it counts anyway! Keep up the awesome content!!!
@@LoveMTB Lets see... Favorites: Ease of shifting has to be the first for me. Set and forget, after setup and fine tuning it just continues to work everytime. The battery lasts longer than expected. It's robust, I've smacked them a few times which is concerning everytime because they are so expensive, but no issues yet! Areas to improve: Before GX AXS I'd say price (I own XX1 and XO1) but with GX out now with a small weight penalty, AXS is getting cheaper. I wish the controller was a little smaller, I know it's petty but it is a little chunky for my liking. I wish the controllers were more customizable, I have both the AXS derailleur and Reverb AXS and I wish I could program the buttons to do anything I want such as being able to program a single click, double click, or long press on either controller for whatever I desire.
Just installed the GX AXS on my Ibis Ripmo AF on and existing SLX drive system. Install was pretty easy. Still have some issues I have to fix to get the shifting smooth.
Can’t wait for a follow up video as I want to do this on my Scalpel. I want to get rid of as many cables as I can… and if I can save money on the cassette, etc, I’ll have money for an AXS dropper!!! Then it’s just brake hoses and suspension lock-out!!!

Hi mate. Great vid. Question about the b-gap adjustment. Do you adjust with the shock deflated or with air still in it? I’m confused and about to attempt the fit and don’t want to mess it up! Thanks!!
In your video….. distance between the bottom cassette and top derailleur cog center you mention should be 40-41mm, mine is at 60mm (before sag). I need to fine tune mine but it’s working well as is. Why is mine such larger distance further than yours ? Just curious. I’m running shimano xt cassette and the same sram 12 speed derailleur

I got one today 8/24 the shifter has now been changed to a 2 button pad instead of the paddle! But to me that's a bonus as was about to order the different shifter for it! (Axs GX) going on 12s XT like this! Thanks for the video it's been helpful! One small thing still not sure on is the sag and chain adjustment! Is it the bikes recommended sag or what you have as sag as rider weight also how would this effect it with the shimano 5 link and sram 2 link?
Already been in touch with them a guy from here done a video couple weeks ago but they are saying I will have to pay the post office at my end for customs on top of the shifter price tag! Not willing to do that for something that has no history and spares I got a new Axs GX set for £450 just need to fit it! Can you help me with one thing on it please? How do you pull the cage down it seems to be locked up out the box ? Thanks
Hi LMTB I've just installed the same derailleur, paired with a 12spd XT cassette. If I use the old red Sram tool to set the b-gap, my chain is excessively slack on the smaller cogs. However, if I make that b-gap much larger, the chain tightens (as expected) and the gears shift perfectly fine. I then tested an older spare chain and removed a couple of links and I managed to set the b-gap almost perfect, with no slack chain on the smaller cogs. Unfortunately, the gear shifting was awful, and no amount of adjustments could stop it. I went back to my new chain and just kept the b-gap large. The shifting is absolutely fine. The gap between the bottom tooth on the 51T cog and the line on the Sram tool is in excess of 10mm, so why does it shift OK with such a large gap?
@LoveMTB Thanks for the reply. The chain was measured as per shimano instructions. Interesting though, I managed to use the newer sram b-gap tool after shaving off some plastic on the inside, so that it would fit on the second largest cogs with the chain on it. It actually lines up perfectly, so I'm even more confused 😅
Thanks for the Great tutorial!! I have just brought the Axs kit and was wondering will it work out on a Shimano SLX cassette ? I’m guessing it will but probably not as slick at the xt cassette. Thanks
Hi, I really enjoy your vids, great in deep explanation with clear instructions. Thought you can explain next issue in your own unique way. Can’t find any explanation further than “how to instal” The question is how to get the AXS back to “0” or factory reset specially after you mess the micro adjustment to the point where chain jump up and down, there’s no video or text explaining this topic. Thanks for any help, Cheers!
I would be totally ready to drop heavy wires for 5v, gnd and signal with central lion cell placed somewhere in the frame. No need for wireless in the mainstream. This could also apply to dropper and lockouts. would result in super small shifters and buttons. Say if SHimano would bite SLX and do it there
Very helpful video. But I have one question, if you're working on the bike by yourself, how are you able to adjust the b-limit screw under sag by yourself? What trick do you use to get this done by yourself?
I commented when you first released this and you said you will have a follow up long term video. I suppose all is working well. My XTRs shifting keeps detuning during big and long descends when I do minimal shifting. I’ve struggled with this for a long time on my long travel bike (160) and do not have this issue on my hard tail or short travel bike. It seems I am experiencing detuning from cable stretch and I can’t seem to fix it. I will be upgrading to wireless shortly to try and eliminate this problem.
Hi You provide a great service keep up the good work…… I’ve just installed 10sp Linkglide system to my Focus Jarifa2 2021 ebike …. it has been life changing compared to the OEM Altus supplied. Could I adapt the SRAM GX ASX to the Linkglide cassette ?
I had 100% shimano, was satisfied, switched to sram, but shifting was not as nice under load. i have this setup now and for me it works flawlessly. excited for the update though. adjustment is probably not easy
I did the same configuration but my chain is kmc, I don't know if it was because of the chain, but I didn't finish removing a bit of noise in sprockets 5 and 6, nor was I able to configure it with the old tool or with the meter at 40mm or 41 because if I do it, the chain skips, I don't know what to do anymore... can you help me?
It's a tight fit for sure, have you checked yout derailleur hanger to start with? Chain length has to be setup according to SRAM/ Shimano (ends up the same). B-Gap - when on 45T cog the top jockey and the 51T have to have just a small gap between them. That is for a full suspension, hardtail would have a 4mm gap or so.
Hello, thanks for this video. I have a question about fine adjustment. The cassettes differed best from the middle or at the top or at the bottom? What was your experience doing this? Thank you for your tip.
Hi, did you test the AXS also on your Yeti ARC? I am getting a lot of chain slap with GX axs, xx1 chain, 32c, chipped away the bottom of cs, next to chainring. I am trying to isolate the problem to axs clutch, before I change to "organic" shiffting. And yes, ARC is ridden hard, so lots of roots, jumps, drops....etc...
Hello! You mention that you did a hard code in the system so that you Can run 11speed on the 12speed deraliur. How did you do this?? I have the cx1 groupset 11 speed and i am looking info upgrading to wireless. But they are all 12speed. What do I need and how to? 🙂

very neat that rear axle can be trimmed forward motorbikewise. Would you upgrade from mechanical gx to gx axs? that would be a cool vid. Thanks for your vids
I have a question without mixing and matching SRAM and Shimano, I just currently got the SRAM GX AXS upgrade kit, it was wondering with the 12speed XT Shimano cassette and the SRAM chain and the SRAM front chain ring would that be a problem? Or should I use the Shimano chain with the Shimano rear cassette?
Been using this setup with slx cassette chain and oval chainring and was working fine for the past month but now it seems to want to jump gears at the top and bottom of the range even after micro adjustment in the middle of the cassette. If I adjust for the small cogs, big cogs start to jump around and vice versa.
This means you most likely need to align your derailleur hanger. When its gets bent or twisted it affects the angle of the upper cog in relation to your front chainring.
III NEEEED IIITT😁 Looks really good! I would love to have it put money is the problem as always. Maybe one day. There are more important things to buy first
Hi, is the b-gap distance also 40-41 mm on an 10-45 cassette? I have a problem, that i can have either good shifting on the middle cogs but not on the largest or the other way around. Any hints?
Very futuristic, but I wonder how the electric derailleur will work when wet and muddy? The Santa Cruz looks amazing very nice bike. I was however hoping for the Prone to appear but alas it has yet to materialize. Hahahah
Hello! New to this but I was wondering if you could give me some advice on upgrading my new bike Mongoose Dolomite. My main concern is the brakes and possibly the gears from 7 to 11 or 12. Please try to keep it budget friendly and I thank you in advance!!!!!!
Hi! I'm on XT cassette with GX Axs (full sus). For the chain length, do I have to sag my rear suspension? Or do I just perform the Shimano chainlength method? After doing so, the b screw gap will stay as 41mm? Your advise is appreciated. Thanks!
@@LoveMTB Hey there what's up. So just wanted to share my first impressions with you on the Sramano setup(XO1 AXS(used already a little banged up a few scratches), SLX cassette/Xtr chain(1000miles on both), Absolute black 32 oval, 140mm rear travel Yt jeffsy)...I don't want to judge to fast as I gor 2 rides(4h, 1500m climbing, bike park, some blue trails in the woods). So the Pros apart from the obvious are that I don't need to think about how much I need to press the shifter(controller) anymore especially when the hands body is tired. The next pro is the option to shift up/down(app settings) with your pointing finger as on shimano xt shifters(can't live without that option)...interestingly when AXS first reviews came out I was a bit disappointed as none of the reviewers didn't mention this option is available on the new wireless system, luckily it is. The third is ofcourse the zzzt zzzt 😜. Ok for the Cons, the speed, don't take me wrong it's fast enough, but my first after 1 season with an XT setup is that in a situation when coming fast into a corner with brakes and to a step climb, the analog setup was a tick of a second faster there(maybe I just need to get my Sramano shifting technique better) or set my multiple shift from 2 to 3 gear at once. The second Con would be the Sram AXS clutch strength, compared to an Shimano XT it is weak, the chain is all over the place where with the XT was quiet. The third Con would be that the shifter is to sensitive in rough trail situations(the travel of the buttons is a little bit to short I think). Installation, setup(indexing, b gap, limits) all went perfectly and very easy. So do need more riding time to get used to it better. The shifting is good, but I do have one issue, the chain is doing loud clunks when going down the cassette and sometimes has trouble to go up right away, that is probably a little because of the wear on the cassette, but also probably, I think the chain length. On the pure Shimano setup I was running a 34T oval(chain length according to the Shimano 12 speed instructions(+ 5 or 6 half-links), went to a 32T oval now so shortened the chain for 2 half-links. It's 57 full links long now on a 440mm chainstay. I have a feeling that it's still 2 half-links to long. How did you size the chain, Sram way or Shimano way? Probably it should be done the Sram way as it's a Sram derailleur, right? How is your setup working out for you?
Dear friend give us a vídeo comparing eagle vs axs eagle. The idea of taking care of one more thing (the battery) is very deterrent. Greetings from Spain

Thanks. I just did this and it shifts amazing except for the biggest COG. I could not trouble shoot it and neither could my LBS. Not a bent hangar. Only thing i can think of is I have a oneup switch oval ring. Going to try a shimano direct ring. Any suggestions?
Do you have the 55 or 56.5mm chain line cranks as opposed to the 52mm ones? That might cause you to have the poor shift at the most extreme angle in that granny gear, since the chain line is biased towards the smaller cogs.
I have been running a SRAMano setup for less than a year, and I am really unhappy with the durability of the XTR cassette on an ebike. The AXS shifter works perfectly with the XTR 10-51 cassette and XTR chain...well, at least when it is brand new. Even though it was adjusted correctly, and it initially shifted really well, the 3 largest gears on the XTR take a beating when climbing hills, and I have now broke a tooth off of 2 of the gears. It shifts smoother than SRAM by basically engaging 2 gears simultaneously as the shift happens, but if you apply any torque during that time it really causes wear and tear. It may be ok on a normal bike, but this heavy long travel Haibike totally wrecked the cassette in under 500 miles of trail riding. What a waste of a $400+ cassette and a $80 micro spline hub. I am going back to SRAM with a GX cassette and a XX1 chain. It may not shift as smoothly as XTR, but it shifts faster and more positively, which will extend the life of the cassette.
@@LoveMTB yes the SRAM is a little bit noisier during shifts, but I actually missed that quick positive shifting feel of the SRAM going into each gear. The XTR was an expensive experiment that didn't quite go how I had hoped. The weight savings are not worth the loss of durability in my opinion.

Brilliant as always!!!
Just installed the GX AXS on my Ibis Ripmo AF on and existing SLX drive system. Install was pretty easy. Still have some issues I have to fix to get the shifting smooth.
Just remember it won’t be 💯 Shimano no matter what you do. And enjoy it!
Great video, as usual!
Can’t wait for a follow up video as I want to do this on my Scalpel. I want to get rid of as many cables as I can… and if I can save money on the cassette, etc, I’ll have money for an AXS dropper!!! Then it’s just brake hoses and suspension lock-out!!!
Your content is so rad, keep it up
Thanks for the step by step… just made the switch with the shimano and had to order the original sram b gap tool which got it just right
How has this held up any long term review wanting to replace my XTR drivetrain
Worked ok I have dismantled the exact setup froim this video at some point but I know of users still using today, even on eBikes. No problem.
Excellent content ; as always - thanks!
Very well done demonstration, added to my MTB tips & tricks folder. Thank you
hola me encanto tu video super informativo, puedo hacerte una pregunta, yo tengo un desviador sram gx y quiero usar con un groupset shimano slx expect for the derailleur sram, puedo usar sin problemas?
Very Good job Sir ❤
Hi mate. Great vid. Question about the b-gap adjustment. Do you adjust with the shock deflated or with air still in it? I’m confused and about to attempt the fit and don’t want to mess it up! Thanks!!
Thank you. Great vid.
thank you, this was super helpful!!
Como se ajusta la caída de cadena en el piñon superior, al girar en sentido contrario las bielas?
In your video….. distance between the bottom cassette and top derailleur cog center you mention should be 40-41mm, mine is at 60mm (before sag). I need to fine tune mine but it’s working well as is. Why is mine such larger distance further than yours ? Just curious.
I’m running shimano xt cassette and the same sram 12 speed derailleur
@@billwilliam3521 if ain’t broke…😊 check the video I have on the B-gap adjustment tools. Also covered that in my latest video, Wheeltop MRB installation video
Good video. I was wondering about the chain quick link. The arrow points forward. But at the top of the chain stay or bottom?
woah nice. got same setup. with gx rear mech and xtr shifter. works like a charm.
If you damage the battery retaining clip , new derailleur .
I think so but that would be a wicked blow given the position of it
I got one today 8/24 the shifter has now been changed to a 2 button pad instead of the paddle!
@@Emtbtoday hey check the video I just posted on Wheeltop will give you everything you need. Different system but same setup
Thanks

Hi LMTB
I've just installed the same derailleur, paired with a 12spd XT cassette.
@@Mapantz1 because the cm chain is new once it loserns up a bit you won’t be happy. Your chain in too long…
@LoveMTB Thanks for the reply.
Thanks for any help,
Cheers!
Is the GX 11s compatible?
Is that a Copeland Forest shirt you're wearing at the end? That's rad!
Nice! Follow up video here we go!
Would be interesting how you judge the Shimano SRAM mix after riding some time. My experience were really bad and I moved back to 100% SRAM equipment.
I had 100% shimano, was satisfied, switched to sram, but shifting was not as nice under load. i have this setup now and for me it works flawlessly. excited for the update though. adjustment is probably not easy
This derailor GX by Sram wifi tecnology its amazing 😎
😄 it's not wi-fi.
How do you adjust the B-limit while at sag?
Hello, thanks for this video. I have a question about fine adjustment. The cassettes differed best from the middle or at the top or at the bottom? What was your experience doing this? Thank you for your tip.
This video hurt my eyes but still surprised me😯
How noticeable the deraileur "mouse squee" is when on the trail?
Also does this SRAM dr communicate with garmin computers to know gear position?

Brilliant. Thank You
Hi, did you test the AXS also on your Yeti ARC?
Can the micro adjustments be set for each of the cogs, or it’s one for all like mechanical barrel adjusters?
Algun update de como esta funcionando ? Estoy a punto de comprar la gx asx. La quiero montar en mi bicicleta con cassette slx cadena xt plato 34t oval absolut black

very neat that rear axle can be trimmed forward motorbikewise. Would you upgrade from mechanical gx to gx axs? that would be a cool vid. Thanks for your vids
You can breake front of the white tool and it will work just fine
@@LoveMTB Yeah ;-)
Great stuff. I was curious, and you've proved it can work. I missed the Tallboy video; why the switch away from Yeti?
Hi. Nice vid. Let me ask you, did you do the follow up video (trails, verdict)?
@@LoveMTB not exactly, but I’ll run the gx axs just like you (xt cassette). How’s everything holding up? Any CONS?
I have a question without mixing and matching SRAM and Shimano, I just currently got the SRAM GX AXS upgrade kit, it was wondering with the 12speed XT Shimano cassette and the SRAM chain and the SRAM front chain ring would that be a problem? Or should I use the Shimano chain with the Shimano rear cassette?
Can you shift with your index finger like Shimano shifters?
Do you find that 12 speed chains wear out faster than 11 speed chains, for any brands?
Thanks!
Love it, just installed a ShRAMano setup myself to ✌didn't go for a ride yet
How is your setup working out for you?
which old bgap tool did you use? cause when i look for them i find 3 different varieties.
Dear friend give us a vídeo comparing eagle vs axs eagle. The idea of taking care of one more thing (the battery) is very deterrent. Greetings from Spain
Hey man, absolutely perfect! I'm also a supporter of Shimano, but thanks to you, I also have a Shimano gear and RaceFace cranks mixed on the bike, with OneUp Oval chainring and an e*13 casette. And this looks like another interesting step forward. Thanks so much for the inspiration!
I always get paranoid about making sure my H limit is set right on a carbon frame.
It would be a huge bummer to wreck a carbon frame from a poorly adjusted H limit.

Liked and sub, great tutorial 👍. Thx
Is it shifting well under heavy load?
Meu sonho. ❤️
@@mk3driftmotion , @LoveMTB - I think Shimano has come out with an E-Bike focused groupset (LinkGlide)? With a full power E-Bike I would def. stay with the cheaper cassettes.
