If I can pass on a tip that might help with dropping those batteries on? Use two longer bolts diagonally and cut the heads off to make screw-in studs. Once its down start bolting it up and swap the studs out once it's in place. Can even grind two flats or a slot in the top to use a screwdriver or shifter to unscrew it. Makes lowering things precisely a real simple task without messing up the sealant underneath. Loving your work.
That’s awesome work. And I really enjoyed seeing the fun interaction in the build as well between father and daughter. In terms of the engine could that power a 1954 Chevy pick up truck and if it could tow how much weight could it tow? How much are you selling these motors for?
I would buy one of these for a 1972 GMC truck. Will it work better with a Turbo 400 or a Powerglide? I hope you can bring this to market. I will buy one.
I think a multi-pin DIN or Mil-spec connector could be located and have one half wired inside the “engine” and the other half through a fake distributor. You could then use the distributor to hide all of the wires and have a clean, waterproof way of managing the wiring.
Now, if you if like stirring like I do then we need to ad an artificial piston engine noise but make it for a small two stroke bike or what ever you like. Could be a lot of fun when things get boring.
No not at all. The controllers are water cooled. The motor in this design is air cooled and the whole bottom is open as well as an electric fan where the carburator would be .
This is pure Genius Chris!! Wow!! I would love this in my 1947 Business coupe!!! You can use my street rod as a proto type with a ford motor :) It is Black show winner at local car shows.. This would look fantastic at sema !!!
Would the output be able to go into a traditional torque converter & transmission like a PowerGlide or th350? Very cool idea and execution, I bet a kit for $2k or less would sell well, I know I’d get one.
a cross flow fan could be installed inside of the rocker covers, the DC models are fairly efficient and dont make much noise, not very high CFM or static pressure tho
Awesome workmanship and I love that you and your daughter are doing this together. America is an awesome place! What I don't understand is how you get the output shaft from that electric motor, hidden in the block of what looks like a conventional internal combustion engine, to mate up with the drive-train. How do you get the power to the wheels??
@@WebbMotorworks - OK, so you don't get the same torque directly to the wheels, but you get the classic look of a hot rod engine. Very cool stuff! I have built my own lithium battery pack to power the electric motor on my fishing boat. Nowhere near as complicated as what you're doing, but enough that I appreciate your accomplishment.
So the gas tank would be removed? And trunk extend to a deeper depth. For 30 batteries, to move a 4 ton old school car. Hey, I’ll try it. Cause now just to go curse on the weekend is 200 bucks.
Wait a minute, wait a minute!!! What is the rest of the drivetrain? How many batteries? I need more!!! Where can I get some of these components??? Please share more!!!
Yikes, get back there and stick a rubber liner in that hole for the wires or you will be getting shorting and loss of power right quick. Why is that harness not in a tube? Anyways the metal work is amazing.
Haha. The Ford unit is smoke and mirrors. It is just a motor with a 9 to 1 trans axle and good luck getting one. No controller batteries etc. how ya gonna hook it up to your rear end? Not quite what it appears.
Pleased, post links of mounting this type of setup for a 5.7 GM Z71 K1500 ... I like the full built hookup and mounting the batteries on the Lt, & Rt side under PU beds. And the distance? You hurry up and get this going and you and daughter will be rich in or before 2025 (ain is to made all car/truck electric)... Or sell the casing/cover up Motor kits!
IDK if I like the faux shell. What's it got in it? Pop the hood . . . oh it's a V8, but not a real V8. It's better to just shine up the electric motor, and own up to what it is!
I have a 305 from building my nephews truck sitting in my shop and was kicking this exact idea around. And thought that I couldn't be the first person this has occurred to. As cool as EVs are (unless some politician is telling me to go buy one then I want to daily something with a big block and no overdrive) when you.pop the hood it's all... hmmm well it's fugly. Modern engines are no works of automotive art take the ubiquitous Ls1 and all it's subsequent variants, probably the greatest gasoline burning V8 of all time but again if you were to find an unmolested 2000 Camaro Z28 and pop it's hood your first impression is probably "huh that's a tad homely isn't it". An entire industry sprang up around that engine family to dress them up like the 2nd greatest V8 of all time the grand daddy 90million produced small block chevy😊. So the idea of a hollowed out sbc block, heads, etc.. to unfuglify an Ev motor makes perfect sense. Hearty thumbs up👍
Why is the production quality so BAD? Look closely at the misalignment of the valve cover bolt holes at 2:24. Also the water pump bolts are not even close. This should all have threaded inserts since the aluminum castings are so thin. It looks like a small block chevy, but it doesn't fit like a small block chevy. I hope this is only a prototype and all fixes are in the works for production. O-ring grooves and thermal paste would dramatically improve controller cooling over the silicone. Great idea, but maybe not ready for production.
Hi Kevin thanks for the input. Ya this was a prototype I made 3 years ago to see if the concept would work. I was happy with it for a prototype made in my garage.
Doesn't that just add unnecessary weight to your build? Also did anyone else get the vibe of "Our motor is so easy to build even a girl can do it" kinda message? With all that space they seemed to be awfully crowded at times in this video!
That’s really dumb. What a waste of resources…converting an old car to electric is incredibly expensive as it is without using all this pointless aluminum to make it look like an engine. When I build one I’ll be proud of the electric motor showing.
No grease and oil. No fuss no muss. Nice video. Thanks.
this is the coolest thing I've seen in a while, lol. wow
Mechanics with clean hands! Bravo!
No oil leaks to worry about
Love your channel , just found it today Alberta Canada
Would love to hear your plans for selling these or offering kits for DIY.
Yes definitely that is in the works. So far people seem to like the concept
lmfao
Love it more if they could have the v8 sounds too.
@@danmoore3457 lol, with modern audio equipment that sounds like the easy part!
@@WebbMotorworks but in plastic, sir....no need to carry the weight of an iron block no reason

Just saw another video, not battery packs but controllers, same point with using studs though.
Thanks. Those are not batteries they are controllers but hood idea
This the coolest thing I have seen on RUclips.
not sure what's cooler ? the motor or your assistants abilities ,, thumbs up
Beautiful craftsmanship, this really is the future
this is a cool idea...the look of traditional...with power of the future
i got to have one how much without install and batteries
I am so impressed!
Love to see family working together! Great job, can't wait to see it running
This is awesome! I would love a big block variant(since that's what in my car already!)
This is exactly what I'd put in my Caprice Estate. Love the concept & hopefully I may afford the end result lol.
Wow! Totally cool. How did i miss this earlier?
What an awesome idea, looking forward to next videos and seeing it move that truck.
okay can you make one in a 302?
A thing of beauty. 😎
Master piece

Since it's all electric how do you get heat into the car? No coolant
Game changer

wow, great job. is there a website for the details like power, MPC and so on?

thinking bout the NEXT step: Creature comforts like Heat and A/C? Thoughts as to implementation of these?
What does the 50-70 k get you? Just the motor?
I have a 1948 ford Anglia with a small 4 cylinder inline original Ford engine would your smaller conversion kit fit?

What about ventilation for the motor need ventilation on the side of the casing so you can dis charger or intake air for your electric motor
It has Vents and a fan????
@@nickburns2034 I saw the ventilation for the controllers but I did not see any ventilation for the motor below

Great design. Is everything in there? Motor, inverter, charger, rectifier?
Question is will it sound like a V8?
i need a 262ci version
With all the casting around the motor, does the motor overheat?
