Paul McCartney wrote "Hey Jude" to help Julian cope after his father left Julian's mother, Cynthia, for Yoko. The song was originally titled "Hey Jules", as that was his nickname. It's a song of encouragement for a child who was going through some serious life changes.
When I first heard this song on the radio, I couldn't believe how much Julian sounds like John. He also looks like John, but there is a lot of Cyn there too. Cynthia was John's first wife and they met in art school. John left his family for Yoko and Cyn only ended up with a tiny divorce settlement amount. It wasn't enough to raise Julian and support them. Years later Cyn was desperate enough to put John's love letters up for auction. They sold for a very large amount as you can imagine. After, she received a package in the mail and it was the letters all beautifully framed. The enclosed note said, "Don't ever sell your memories." Love, Paul McCartney.

You must hear his debut single "Valotte". When we first heard his voice, it was eerie how much Julian sounded like his Dad only a few years removed the tragic events.
You need to hear Julian’s Saltwater. He also has a song called Lucy, a tribute to the girl that inspired Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds, a drawing he created that John turned into a song.
John Lennon's son Julian Lennon was singing about how he thought his father seemed distant to him and never really showed him much love and since he is dead now he could never fix their relationship. Really sad song Julian was really singing about his hurt. It wasn't about a girl. Just about his distant relationship his father.

Yes! Those were exactly the two songs I was going to suggest. Julian's Help Yourself album (which includes Saltwater) doesn't get the love it deserves.
Everyone is mentioning Hey Jude, but they're forgetting Lucy In The Sky with diamonds. Julian is the one who made the drawing in school and when his father asked what it was of and Julian said "Lucy, in the sky, with diamonds" and John made it into a song.

Julian released a song in 1991 called, Saltwater. He sings of how the Earth is dying and how we humans are allowing it to happen. Julian is much purer at heart than his father was. John sang of living without money, etc. with the song, Imagine but he lived a life that he couldn't have lived if he had lived it according to the song. Julian Lennon, oh yes! He made a huge (if too brief) splash when he landed with his songs in the mid-80s. This song is so poppy and happy sounding, deceptive for the lyrics' meaning. I believe he is every bit as talented as his father was. You'll need to put his song "Valotte" on your list next.
One of my favourites from Julian Lennon is the song 'SALTWATER' from the early 90's. I really do hope you both react to that song soon. Also love the more recent 'LOVE DON'T LET ME DOWN' It is beautiful & not only does Julian look like the spitting image of his dad. His voice is so like his dad's to.
Love Julian Lennon. He’s barely 21 here but the image of his Dad. They had a complex relationship but it’s reported that they started become closer before John's death. Julian has given many interviews on the subject & life after his parents divorce. Julian was named after John’s Mother Julia, (checkout song from the Beatles White album). Ironically, John was also only 17 when his mother died. Julian’s Saltwater is worth a listen to. Beautiful, sensitive composition.
My first concert ever was Julian Lennon's Valotte Tour (this song included). It was good for first concert, because we kids wanted to see Julian for his new music, and our parents wanted to see how much he sounded like his father. The song "Valotte" is also very good. Thanks for this!
"Valotte", "Say You're Wrong", "Now You're in Heaven", these are also great great tunes and great great videos from him. Eventhough he looks and hears so much as his father, he manages to have his own personal seal
Julian recorded a lot of the album in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. 30 years ago I went to school at UNA and heard he was hanging out and playing in local bars. We heard he was just a regular guy and very nice. We were all just mesmerized to know that a Beatle child was in our part of the world.
John's son with Yoko is Sean Lennon or Sean Ono Lennon a talented artist in his own right. Sean and Julian are close despite John and Julian's relationship.
I remember this tune causing quite a ripple when it first came out. My friend's mom, who grew up a Beatles fan, was absolutely in love with it because of how much it reminded her of John!
NIce to see you've got around to Julian Lennon. You really need to check out 'Saltwater' by Julian. Really - you'll love it. Sean Lennon also has some good tracks - don't leave him out. Sean is JL's son with Yoko Ono. Sad to say, John treated Julian pretty poorly (and his mum Cynthia). He wasn't a great dad to him overall. I often wonder how things might have turned out between them they'd had more time... if John hadn't died. You can never truly make up for feelings of abandonment of course but maybe you can build something new as adults. In any event, Julian came out the other side a truly lovely guy - at least that's how he always comes across in interviews and how others talk of him.
Julian is John's son from his first marriage to Cynthia Powell. He was born in 1963. They divorced in 1968 and John married Yoko Ono in 69. They had their son Sean in 1975.
This music video is from so long ago - he's twice as old now! Julian is multi-talented, not just a musician and songwriter, but a photographer (he's had gallery exhibitions of his work), a writer (he's written a series of ecology-themed books for children) and philanthropist (especially for projects to benefit indigenous people). Interestingly, as he's gotten older he's looking more like his Mom, Cynthia. John basically abandoned Julian and Cynthia after he took up with Yoko when Julian was around 5. After John was killed, it turned out that he left almost nothing to Julian - his assets went to Yoko and Sean. Julian felt that was unfair and fought for years to get a share of the inheritance; he finally won his case (although he still didn't get a full share) and used the money to fund his charitable foundation. Cynthia struggled financially for years (John didn't pay child support for Julian), but she did a great job raising her son.
@@howardhales6325 Well that's just sad. It was his Dad's stuff, so why didn't Yoko just give it to him? That's what any other loving Mom would do. It's not like she needed money - she inherited John's estate, got at least £400m at the time and still collects royalties from his music. (His estate is worth over £600m now.) And if she really wanted to make money off the memorabilia, why would she put it on e-bay rather than consign it to an auction house to make big bucks? Strange. Oh well, at least Julian and Sean have a decent brotherly relationship now.

This song brings back so many childhood memories I was a kid back when this first came out
Christmas 1984 I think. Top of the pops year end. Plus Duran Duran, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Simple Minds, Queen, Eurythmics and so much more.
Julian Lennon is the most coolest and legendary performer in music john Lennon's son was fantastic hes awesome ❤❤❤❤
He had a great album in the 90's called Photograph Smile. Very underrated.
its hidden jewel
Looks and sound like his father. Julian is an amazing talent unto his own, though.
Not only does he look like John, SOUNDS EXACTLY like John! If he put a pair of glasses on, it would give me chills.
Love Julian!!
Julian is just as great of an artist as his father. I love Julian. Have all his music.
WTF! I was just looking up reactions to this song and saw your upload! Perfect timing!
Julian was from John's first marriage to Cynthia.
Yay!!! He’s awesome!❤
John's son with Yoko is Sean Lennon or Sean Ono Lennon a talented artist in his own right. Sean and Julian are close despite John and Julian's relationship.
I love Julian Lennon's music. By far his best piece is Saltwater. Absolutely heartbreaking and so relevant today.
I remember this tune causing quite a ripple when it first came out. My friend's mom, who grew up a Beatles fan, was absolutely in love with it because of how much it reminded her of John!
“Saltwater” by Julian Lennon is a beautiful song. Well worth a listen. It’s from the early 1990s
Yep - great 'genes'... and he stands on his own, a great tribute to his Dad, in every way.
I can't believe this is almost 30 40 + some years now. John would be proud of him.🙏
40 years this year. The album was released in 1984. I was in highschool at the time...
Love your reaction to this song and video. You need to check out the song and video for his song called Saltwater
Say You’re Wrong is my favorite of his
I usually avoid comparing relatives, but here if I close my eyes I hear John's voice... 😀 and I mean it as a compliment 👌
Love Julian Lennon. ❤
Always loved Julian and this song!
The title rack to the album this song came from, "Valotte" is also very good.
Two other Julian Lennon songs I would recommend are "Valotte" and "Stick Around".
"Valotte" in particular is an incredibly beautiful song.
This sounds so much like a McCartney composition
Sean used to use an assumed name to bid on his father's memorabilia when Yoko put things on e-bay.
@@OriginalCaliKitty She gave everything to Sean. Julian wasn't her son so she didn't care about him. I think things are better now.
I LOVE 'JUDE', he's a GREAT GUY's! REACT TO JULIAN SINGING 'IMAGINE'!!!!!
Loved Valotte love his music always he's very talented definitely inherited that same gift of music from his Dad hope to hear some new music soon it's been awhile
"Day After Day" is another great song from him. 👍
Julian is still putting out great music! I've seen or heard many interviews with him. It'd be so awesome if you guys could get him on your show!
You guys will ❤️ his hit - SALTWATER. ..very poignant lyrics..till this day!..STILL! 😢
✌️❤️
You must check out the song "Valotte." It is so darn good and he sounds just like his dad in that one.
The silhouette dancing in the doorway is supposed to be John Lennon.
I read that Julian said it wasn’t meant to be his father.
Hooray! Glad to see this guy and video.
Saltwater is fantastic you must check it out😊
Wish John would've lived to see how talented his kid was....
He looks so much like his Dad, Julian is an amazing g photographer 😊
There were a lot of people that thought this might have been a John Lennon song that was a lost recording type of thing back in the day.
