Make Any eBook an Audiobook on iPad or iPhone

- Here's how I turn any eBook into an audiobook within the Apple Books app. Either purchase a book within the app or upload an eBook into the Apple Books library and follow these directions to make read to you. This works well on both the iPad and iPhone.

I’ve done this with other YT tutorials, but the robotic voice is a no-go for me. Even when I purchase audio books, I’m willing to pay extra for the better reading experience. I’m still grateful for all the great tutorials though.

iOS 17.2 has changed enough that I had to flounder a bit to approximate your instructions. I had to press the lower right to bring up Spotlight & press Siri to get the arrow to appear & offer me the chance to choose to have the book read aloud. When I began playing the audio in Apple Books, it stopped after a page or 2. When I press Play again, it reverts to the beginning of the page & repeats. It's not worth using this way.

Tried this out this evening. I find it does have a tendency to skip sentences here and there (or at least it did on the book I tried this on). But all in all seems pretty good. So I’ll continue to play about with the settings. Thank you for this video. Don’t realise it existed until recently.

Maybe change idle rate from 35 to a higher one ?

How do I get the entire books read aloud? Do I have to go page by page. I have an ipad, 18.3 version (just updated today). Thanks for helping. My hearing is very bad and my audiologist recommends reading along with the audio to retrain my brain to associate sounds with words. Thanks for your help. P. Berne

I have a source where I can pretty much down load any e-books for free but it’s a PDF format and I’ve done everything you said but regardless what are you do I cannot get it to read the book!
Convert it to epub
Use something called calibre
It can work with PDFs, I just sent a pdf (one I altered, eliminated useless/blank pages) & air dropped it from my MBPro to my iPad... & I'm listening to it now. It maybe something within the PDF? Maybe save as a DUP/Copy & try again?

Thank you so much i really need the audiobook to speed up my learning time, it worked even though now im on update 17 something. The only thing like you said the highlighting of the word sometimes it works sometimes it dosnt so far it hasnt, But the most important thing now i can listen to my ebook

Speak screen used on Apple Books app on my iPhone or iPad only reads the current page and then stops, doesn't continue onto the next page (don't have this problem with Kindle app). Any ideas why this is happening?

Mahalo from Maui! Question: I'm reading a book in pdf form, on iPad mini 2, version 16.6: Siri keeps beginning on the table of contents page, not the page that I'm on. How to read the page I'm on? and how to bookmark the page to come back to it? and where is the book, I keep having to find it in the message it was dowloaded from? Thank you this was absolutely amazing. I prefer Siri over a lot of narrators of my audiobooks that I have purchased now I can choose. I can buy the cheaper regular books and still listen to them.

Where the arrow come from??
I set everything that you had but when I long touch the arrow it says I’m in page mode says title of book and author name, turn pages, page number, place book mark, read from here, menu. How do I select read from here? I’ve tried multiple things with no success.

Thanks for a methodical demonstration, I'm trying to use the OCR feature on my iPad to read DIY recipes that are images in PDF and not finding solutions. . :(. The files are patterns I've bought and they come as they are, I can't get a different format. Adobe says there is no text in the files to read to me. The one workaround I've found is to take a screenshot of a fipage and then get Photos to read detected text aloud, but gee willikers it should be better than that.
I wonder if there is an elegant way like this in pc/macos?

Is there a possibility to change the voices(languages) according to the language of the ebook? I read a lot of dutch Books but also english books
be careful not to use some of the more esoteric voices, I forget which one but some how I accidentally turned him on, and he says ‘I talk like I have a frog in my throat.”. took me over an hour to get it to switch back and he is correct for english, Siri 2 or Siri 4 were best. `more natural. I also heard that the more you use it , there is some ai in the phone of apple, that will actually improve the function and pronunciations will get better. one thing to keep in mind is if you are reading multiple pages or a chapter it tends to lock at the end of each page. There is a way to get it to keep going but it gives an unnatural long pause. If you know of a way to get around this so it will read the entire chapter please update , I can imagine trying to study while driving to work and having to hit or swipe in order for it to continue. but overalll great info on this and wish i had watched it last night would have saved me so much time. At least now I know how to get directly to it on my other devices, way better than trial and error. follow each step like he says.

This doesn’t work properly on iPhone. When I drag two fingers down it will jump to the first page in the chapter or a few pages before the one I selected, and then it will only read the page or a few pages, once that page is done it stops speaking aloud.
hold your fingers off the side off the phone and slide them on... if that makes sense

I can't understand why no homework was undertaken here to determine that there is no 'little arrow button' on ios 12.5 at least. Why not check first and avoid disappointing viewers.

Why can’t we see more of the screen. We don’t need to be looking at the speaker all he time, so long as we can hear him. I switched to another video because of this.
