The National Portrait Gallery has a special exhibit about the War of 1812 (1812-1815) which reminded me that Francis Scott Key composed "The Star-Spangled Banner" while watching the British Fleet in the harbor shell Ft. McHenry, which protected Baltimore from the invaders. Sadly, Gen. Armstrong lost at Bladensburg and British troops burned the White House on Aug. 24, 1814, while panicked residents around Lafayette Square tried to escape.

I wonder what Francis Scott Key would think of a steel drum version of his tune? Then again, I thought that he borrowed the melody from an old English drinking song, but I may have that wrong.
