Much like Blondie and Missing Persons, this is new wave in it's purest form, which is basically punk rock chords played with synthesizers. That's why it's so good.
I heard a punk remake of this song before listening to the original. I was thinking it's a perfect song for a punk remake so your explanation makes a lot of sense.
Terri Nunn in her late 50's is still amazingly beautiful. Her voice is incredible and real. Pop music in the 80s was far superior than today. No autotune, real musicians, writing and playing songs. This is an 80's pop music masterpiece.
I bought Berlin's cassette "Pleasure Victim" in 1982 when i was 14 and listened to the hell out of it. I had never heard anything like it before or since. I had heard Human League and Missing Persons, and they are great, BUT there is something melancholy and great about Berlin and the wonderful voice of TERRI NUNN!!! I had/still have a crush on Terri.... Yeah! Thumbs up if you love Terri Nunn and Berlin! :)
DR. HOUSE M.D., so did l! I wore that tape out! Lol! I had her poster in my room too. She was and still is my idol. Saw her a couple months ago and was sooooo star struck. Still beautiful after all these yrs. I guess it pays to be vegetarian. 🌹❤️

One of those amazing songs I would listen to the radio for weeks trying get a good recording of. Any cassette lucky enough to tape a song this good never got erased. I didn't know who it was by then, but you could mash this gem between pretty much any two other tracks and it would be interesting.
I heard the SOAD cover first and decided to check the original out later. I can't really say definitively which is better because of how different they are, but both are great in their own right. Also, I admire SOAD's ability to make covers that fit their own style rather than sticking close to the sound of the original both their cover of this song and their Snowblind cover are amazing.
Omg! I haven’t heard this is so long. I remembered listening to this all the time and singing along!! Wow it’s crazy how a song can take you back in time.🎶🎤
I was homeless in Jacksonville FA...sleeping in a car. Soooooo many years ago. Now I have a home and security. I was never so alive as I was then!! Riding on the Metro!!!.....

This song has been stuck in my head for over 3 decades. I love it.
Here's to 3 more decades.
The melody sounds similar to the movie phantasm the piano part
@@flamboiyenttalk7039The melody part gave me goosebumps.
Teri Nunn looks even better today at age 61.
She came through my city and did a free concert, got to see this live
I'm 51 now, and I'm having a serious 80's flashback ❤❤❤❤
I accompany you my love....
The 80s to me was the best decade for music a wide variety of music!!!

Autotune. Is that what makes today’s music so flat, tinny, repetitive without substance?
God's, I love this song!
most music of today is utter garbage
She auditioned to play Princess Leia.
Until she passed unfortunately Olivia Newton John’s irrepressible beauty was ageless
I think this song rocks as hard in 2023 and it did in 1982. Who agrees with me?
Hella agreed 🤝
For sure! 2023

An underrated '80s song. The definitive "techno-pop" song.
Oh yes, such a great song from the early 80's new wave period. Back when MTV had a pair, and actually played videos.
I loved, and still love, new wave music

The best

no kidding totally agree, I watched as a HS kid MTV start in 1980 ,
I grew up on MTV when actual music videos were played it was a beautiful thing.

I actually rode the metro in Berlin once and--guess what!!--this song was running through my head the whole time!

I had a similar experience listening to this song on my MiniDisc player on the DC Metro about 20 years ago.
That synth solo is everything.
The metro one of the best 80s song of all time, Berlin I always love your songs.
Saw Berlin Friday in Philadelphia. Terri is still amazing
I saw them in 2004 in Las Vegas.
I met Terri Nunn and got her autograph.
This is the first time I've heard this original version and it makes me appreciate just how amazing the SOAD cover actually is.
I know this song because of Rabbit Junk cover. Both versions good enough.
Alkaline Trio also made one, it sounds great as pop punk.
Hey Dan you can't quaite compare different genres. It's like compering apples and oranges.
The System of a Down version doesn't compare musically to this version, although they deserve credit for such a comprehensive remaking of the song.
I love when this song comes on. I go hard
"I remember hating you for loving me " I've always thought that was one of the best lines in a song ever.
Well, you should see what System Of A Down made of this line.
Fun fact: Terri Nunn was an aspiring actress who auditioned for the Princess Leia role in "Star Wars."
Still listening to this in 2018, over and over and over again...
