I always assumed its one of those Italian-American/Jersey-NewYork slangs. A nonsense word used to suggest the person is below average or a situation is mundane.
When I was a kid I back in the 70's I used to stay up late to watch the Johnny Carson Show and saw a lot of Rodney there. He was a treasure. Maddy, if you've never seen the movie Caddy Shack, you should add that to your someday list. Rodney was a lot of fun in that one. Thanks for sharing this and laughing along with the rest of us! 💕
Really interesting thing about Rodney is that he didn't really make it as a famous comedian until later in life. For many years he just had a regular 9-5 job. Proof that you can make it at any age.
I love his one-liners. They did a parody of him in one of my favorite movie, Goodfellas. "Take my wife, please. I take my my wife everywhere, but she finds her way home. For our anniversary, she said,'I want to go somewhere I never been before', and I said 'try the kitchen.'...." Dangerfield is a classic comics comic
When seeing Rodney live, you'd miss easily 1/3 of the jokes because you were laughing so hard. He had polished his act so well, he'd just transition from one topic to the next, non-stop, beginning to end. Perfection.
I saw Rodney Dangerfield in Vegas doing his standup show, I think it was around 1990. Funniest show I ever saw. He threw out one liners so fast, we were laughing so hard you miss the next joke.
Awesome! He was famous for always saying, "I don't get no respect" & adjusting his tie. His movies were funny also. Caddyshack, Back To School, Easy Money, among others. Aspartame was used for making bombs in World War 2
Aspartame was discovered in 1965 by James M. Schlatter. World War 2 ended on Sept. 2, 1945, almost exactly 20 years earlier. Aspartame will burn, hotter than cane sugar, but is not an explosive.
Just discovered your channel and I'm working my way through the comedians. Bill Burr is one of my favorite comedians of this era. He's real and seems to be a genuinely good guy and funny! We definitely grew up in the same world . On the Vinnie Goombatz joke Dangerfield told. Back in the 80s and 90s here in New York, Vinnie Goombatz was a name you'd use when saying a guy thought he knew everything or was not good at what they were doing. Awesome episode, cant wait to see the Carlin one.
This was so nostalgic for me. Growing up in New York City, I was fortunate to go to his Comedy Club in the 60’s and 70’s, Dangerfields, on 61st and 1st Ave just passed the 59th St Bridge. Since I was working at the time a few blocks away it was a simple and quick way away. Thank you for your reaction but also for a trip down memory lane.
Rodney was one of the biggest trailblazers! Most of my teenage generation were defined by his humor. Thanks to HBO and the movie Caddieshack it was non stop laughs throughout the 80s and 90s! Thank you for all the laughs Rodney!!!!
Like some other comics it is said that Rodney was nothing like his on-stage character. He was not really an zinger teller off stage and was more understated. I think he was pretty much little like what he showed us. He is one of the best one-liner comics there ever was. Thanks for the reaction.
I just stumbled onto ur channel. I gotta say it’s so refreshing to see someone enjoying comedy for what it is comedy! So far the videos ur reacting too are amazing!
His parents were Vaudeville performers. In his late-20, his wife left him with their two children, so he gave up his dream of comedy and sold aluminum siding while raising his kids as a single father. When his his kids were in high school, he started doing comedy again at the age of 49. He opened Dangerfield's a comedy club so he could do comedy and be home every night. So, a lot of his comedy is borne out of his frustrations with his ex-wife.
Rodney was the king of one liners. "Every time I get on the elevator it goes to the basement." "I took a cab home and saw a guy running naked out of my house. I said to him "What's goin on here?" He said "You came home early." "In winter I asked my father if I could go ice skating...he said wait until spring."
I nearly lost a lung because of Rodney in the movie, 'Caddy shack'. When he's meeting and greeting people at a dinner table and an 18 year old looks up with food all over his face and as he walks away he says, "Now l know why tigers eat their young". 😂😂😂
Very funny. Thanks for sharing some of the great Rodney Dangerfield moments. Rodney, in the opinions of many (including many critics) was probably the best quick hitting one-liner comedian of all time. He wasn't a story teller like George Carlin and others, or a situational comic, or physical comedian -- but in terms of sheer one-liners he really was the best. His classic "I Get No Respect" ended up being his calling card and most jokes were built around that. When he passed away just about every comedian living came to calling hours or the memorial service. In real like his wife was an amazing lady. He was married in the early days but he divorced that lady and married many years later. His jokes were mostly straight-up fiction, but they worked so well because most people thought they didn't get enough respect and so his comedy resonated with so many. His first movie appearance in the classic "CADDYSHACK" is so good that most guys from that era can still recite all of his lines even to this day -- and often do on the Golf Course every spring and summer. He was truly a one-of-a-kind.
"Dr. Vinnie Boombatz" is what he called his family doctor in his jokes. It's just a running gag name he had for an incompetent doctor, with a funny, vaguely Italian sound to it.
There is a auto biography on Rodney, he had a terrible childhood. His father had left b/c his mother was emotionally abusive, and she took it out on Rodney also. There was a story of his aunt and sister telling him he could go to the movies if he hurried up and cleaned up; they left him laughing as he tried to run after them crying to wait up. So much of this self deprecation seemed to have come from a very personal place. Apparently he did eventually meet back up w/his father and they were able to rebuild their relationship to some extent.
The Doctor name is just a funny name, it's not referencing anything. It's a character he refers to a lot. If you like this kind of humor you should also check out Mr. Warmth, Don Rickles.
@@MusicMike747I like the Henny Youngman guy from Goodfellas doin Rodney style jokes: Dr Welser is here, wonderful doctor! Gave a guy 6 months to live, couldn't pay his bill, gave him another 6 months!
I'm glad I found you on the Internet. You are very sweet and beautiful ❤️ Rodney Dangerfield is an absolute legend!!!! Thank you for playing him. I will continue to listen.
I was lucky enough to see him perform twice in Connecticut. Funny guy never stopped moving. I laughed my ass f the entire performance. Thank you, Rodney, I respect you. Best thing about Rodney is he is fast; you have to keep up or you miss it. Comeback for everything.
Dr. Vinny Boombatz (one of various spellings) was one of the few recurring motifs in Rodney's act, his fictional personal physician who frequently gave him bad medical advice.
There was no one like Rodney. He was the greatest. I loved his stand up and him in films. When he was in a film it was great. Back to School is one of favorites.
My favorite Dangerfield joke was in the movie BACK TO SCHOOL, where he said, 'I'm so out of shape, when I die they'll donate my body to science fiction.'
Rodney suffered from lifelong deep depression. So a lot of his humor reflects that. Another little known thing about him is he had a heart of gold, and was responsible for launching the careers of countless comedians of his era, including Jim Carey, by giving them a chance at his comedy club, and doing so without taking credit. He used to "buy" jokes from broke comedians (and never use them) for a few hundred or a thousand bucks, really as a way of giving them money and letting them keep their dignity.
Rodney Dangerfield was a great stand up comedian in the late 1970's and early 1980's. He's best known for his hit comedy movies such as his 1980 comedy hit Caddyshack starring Chevy Chase and Ted Knight. Also his 1983 movie Easy Money starring Joe Pesci. And his reallly big hit from 1986, Back to School. Rodney Dangerfield passed away in October 2004. ❤ your reactions.
When he made the first subway joke it was already a lot of crimes in the subway in my old hometown of NYC during the Mad Men era of the 1960s and I was a boy at that time. 😊
Definitely check out Dennis Wolfberg, one of the most underrated comics out there. Sadly died in the 90s, but has a really nice selection of bits. "The Bris" and talking about natural childbirth are hilarious 😂 And you look beautiful as usual 😁
When the audience asked how ugly it was a Johnny Carson routine that the audience always would ask a question like how ugly, how stupid or whatever to set up the punch!
Johnny Carson was the perfect setup man for Rodney's self-deprecating one-liners. When a new joke doesn't land, he mops his brow or just stares off for a second - example @15:00. Oh, Maddy Americans have been smoking pot since the 50s.
Dangerfield came to realize that what he lacked was an "image", a well-defined on-stage persona that audiences could relate to, one that would distinguish him from other comics. After being shunned by some premier comedy venues, he returned home where he began developing a character for whom nothing goes right.
I'm of Italian and Polish descent so my favorite Rodney Dangerfield joke is "I've got a friend that is Italian and Polish, he wants to hit somebody, but he doesn't know who"
Here's my take on the appeal of Rodney Dangerfield - first off - I'm 55 years old and Dangerfield's career was basically ending as I was growing up. His peak or heyday was the 1960s and the 1970s. And remember - the 1970s was a particularly difficult decade in economic terms - we had high inflation, high gas prices, and most people were struggling financially. Most families were struggling just to pay their bills and put enough food on their table. So if you noticed - Dangerfield's humor was always self-deprecating; he only made fun of himself, his wife, his kids, his dog. It was a way of saying to the audience "hey you think you have it bad? Listen to how bad I have it." And people loved it. The average guy loved hearing that someone else was having a difficult time with the basics of life - money, romance, and family. Rodney Dangerfield was a way for the average guy to forget about his own problems for a few minutes and laugh at someone else's. Anyway - that's my take on his appeal. By today's standards - he would be seen as too "beta" or too much of a "whiner" - but back then - he was an escape from day to day problems. Thanks for your reaction - i enjoy them.
Thats for Rodney
Thank you!! 🩷
Maddy, I love watching your vids. Great more! KUDOS!!
My favorite of his: "My house caught fire! My kids yelled 'FIRE FIRE', my wife told 'em 'QUIET, you'll wake up Daddy"! 😂
😭🤣
My favorite was: "My wife went to the doctor to have her face lifted. Unfortunately, she had another just like it underneath."
"I tell you; the football team at my high school was rough. After they sacked the quarterback, they went after his family!" - Rodney Dangerfield
My all time favorite of his is "I got no respect the day I was born. The doctor picked me up and slapped me, I found out later that the nurse got few shots in too." 😂
🤣
My wife and I saw Rodney in Vegas many years ago and it was non stop laughter and one joke after another. He was one of a kind.

Dr. Vinny Boombatz was a recurring character in Rodney's bits. I say it to my kids then explain the comedy. Sometimes to their annoyance. ;)
😃 Okay, now THAT'S funny. Same thing here.
I dog sit a Golden Doodle named Vinny..can you guess what I holler when he dawdles outside? 😂😂
I always assumed its one of those Italian-American/Jersey-NewYork slangs. A nonsense word used to suggest the person is below average or a situation is mundane.
It’s bill Murray
"When l was born the doctor slapped me. And the nurse got a few shots in too". 😂😂😂. The G.O.A.T.
That’s my favorite of his…my second favorite is that he rented a car and found his wife’s dress in the trunk. 😂
My favorite is..."I got in a cab and told the driver to take me to where I can get some action, he took me to my house"🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Rodney’s timing, mannerisms, and facial expressions make him so funny. Great reaction, Maddy! 😂😂😂❤
So true!!! 🤣
Rodney is unequaled in comedy. He would have Johnny Carson in tears laughing.
Rodney was a treasure, a truly legendary comedian.
Rodney Dangerfield died in 2004. One of my favourites: "I've never been lucky. The day my ship came in, I was at the airport."
"I was so ugly when I was born, the doctor slapped my mother."
"I was so ugly that I had to trick-or-treat over the phone!"
"I was so ugly my mother breast-fed me by mail". . . . .
King of the one liners 😂

Rodney would always end his show with a classy word about life and love. He was an Icon.

Wow!!! No way?!?
Great reaction to the comedy of a GREAT comedian.
Now, try Don Rickles...put your seatbelt on for that !!
The absolute king of ONE LINERS!! He also owned Dangerfields in New Your. Lots of comedians started there.
As we say in Texas; y'all be safe.

2 of Rodney's funniest films: Back to School; and Caddyshack!

So happy to have seen the late Rodney Dangerfield perform live in my early life. Very funny guy.
Doesn't get much better than Rodney, can't find this kind of this level of talent anymore.
I used to see him in Vegas at the old MGM Theater in the early 90's. He gave the audience stomach pains from so much laughter.
I remember Rodney did some of the funniest Miller lite beer commercials I ever saw on tv... back when I watched TV and they advertised beer...
"When I was born, the Doctor slapped me, I heard, the nurse got in a few too". LOL!
Padum pa! King of the one-liners in that era for sure! Another one-liner comedian was Henny Youngman...LOVE your smile!!!!!!
❤️
Thanks!
