We bought a vandalized 5th wheel trailer, added a LOT of heavy stuff to it, traveled across the country... and never weighed it. Bad. Very bad. Potentially very dangerous. We did not know how to weigh our RV and frankly, were intimidated by the prospect.

Well... it was time. We finally figured it out and want to make sure you are safe and know your numbers! You need to know things like your truck's tow capacity, the GVWR and GAWR for both your 5th wheel or trailer AND your truck and you must make sure you are within the manufacturer's limits. If you're too heavy, you run the risk of not only damaging your truck or trailer, but also of causing a serious accident. If you are intimidated and don't know how to weigh your RV, you've gotta watch this NOW and weigh your fifth wheel or travel trailer.
There are several ways to weigh your RV but the easiest is to use a CAT scale. It's fast, cheap and simple and there are 100's of CAT scales across the country to weigh your RV. There is a CAT scale app for both finding the nearest CAT scale and for weighing your vehicle. Don't be like us: know your trailer weight!

We just went on our first trip in our rig. On the way back we realized there's a CAT scale about 5 minutes from our house. We plan to weigh it fully loaded as we leave for our next trip. Now we know how to do it... thanks to you, we now know how to do it (and have the app downloaded). Thanks!!

You're going to laugh, but this video gave me anxiety until the end when you revealed the results. Glad you're traveling safely.
Life gives me anxiety. Every day. And I know what the end result will be.
I don't know if it carries over to 5th wheels and travel trailers, but semi-trucks have to use what's called the Bridge Formula. Even though each of the axles of the trailer are rated at 20,000 pounds, you can legally only load them to 34,000 as a pair because they are close together (tandem).
I'm shopping around for a 5th wheel. If someone could clarify if it's the same, I'd be grateful.

really think you'll be fine, we weighed our truck for registration, its a Mack hdt, truck alone weighs a little under 18k, our fifthwheel is a tri axle and rated for 18,500...and I sweat over everything we put in it.

Me: 42' fifth wheel, 13,000# unloaded, 2500# cargo limit. Ford dually. In the last month I went from the Mexican border in south Texas to Charleston, SC, and back. I have never weighed the rig. Partially because the CAT Scales are always in a Truck Stop that intimidates the heck out of me. VERY helpful video, thank you!!

Our trailer is about 2000 lbs under weight. 😜 We also have a toy hauler but no toys. 👍

Class A 23,460. Just a thought, I don’t think you would ever have all the tanks full at the same time. Your portable water would be redistributed to your black and gray tanks. GREAT VIEDO!!!!

@@LyfeUntethered we love our class A (Tiffin Open Road). We are on our first long trip. It is a 6 week (5 week work & 1 week vacation) trip. When we started the trip; we were going to boon-dock for a couple of days, that when I realized the water would be transferred from the one tank to the other two. 😃

@@LyfeUntethered we ended up staying at a Harvest Host the first night. That ended up being most “boom docking” we have done to date. We found a campsite at an Army Corps of Engineers Park for the other nights we thought we had to boom dock.
My wife is always annoyed when I want to go across the scale; I think it's kind of fun. (Never been over weight).
