    bro I've always wanted to build apartments up against the drive in screen and I never thought to do it on the backside of it. This is so good!

    • @cryingcube2
      @cryingcube2  6 месяцев назад +5

      I have tried many, many times to do something with the front side of the screen but was never able to do anything with it. The backside worked because it is fairly flat and doesn't cause collision issues. The existing structure below the apartments could be used for additional living space too. Thank you - glad you like it!

      Thank you! It took me countless failures trying to do something similar on the other side before I got the idea to build on the back side. I'm glad that you gave it a try and happy that you customized it to your liking. One tip that I discovered after I built this - if you used the scaffolding stairs and your settlers won't use them - swap them out for the long shack stairs (the one without the platform attached). They should use those stairs.

    Nice build idea. Well done. I've built on the front of the screen on the past, never thought to build apartments on the back side. On the front, in a recent playthrough, I used scaffolding but instead of building up I used rows of train car pieces to make the apartments, all with those train car sliding doors, and walkways in between. Ended up looking like a cool junky "city" of multi-leveled train cars. Hard to build up on that side because of the curve and the wrecked bits sticking out.
    In another playthrough from years back I actually built myself a player mansion right on top of the screen. Fun build, but in the end it would have probably gotten blown off in a high wind. lol
    For the existing rooms on the back side I've often just stuck the generator into the long storage room. Now I think it would serve nicely to power the apartments as well.

    • @cryingcube2
      @cryingcube2  5 месяцев назад

      Thank you and thanks for sharing your ideas - I love your ideas for the screen side! The train car idea is particularly relevant to Starlight because of the rail tracks that run nearby. I never thought about a player home on the top of the screen but that is a good idea - I don't know if the NPCs can path to the top of the screen so you would have the place all to yourself. I got frustrated with the screen side because of the curve and all of the bent metal that caused collision issues so that is why I tried the other side. With this character, I made the existing center room into a manager office/apartment and the side room into a bathroom, but I like the idea of using it for a mechanical room too.

      Thank you! The build order to get everything to snap together is frustrating in this game - glad that tip helped. • @cryingcube2
      @cryingcube2  4 месяца назад +1

      Sorry to hear that! Over the past few weeks, I've spent a fair amount of time in Starlight Drive-in and made a few observations that might help.
      After building, make sure that you fast travel or travel a very far distance from Starlight a few times to allow the cell to reset. This can sometimes help settlers find their beds.
      I have noticed that it takes most of my settlers until around 4 am to finally walk to the apartments (although a few make it much earlier). The can path to the back of the screen but it seems to take a long time for them to get there.
      If you find that the settlers are all gathered at the bottom to the steps on the front (right side facing the apartments), replace the scaffolding stairs with the wide wood shack stairs from the vanilla shack building tiles. I found that the settlers will easily use the shack stairs but seem to get stuck on the scaffolding stairs. I don't know why - I generally find that settlers like the scaffolding stairs and that is why I like to use them.
      Sorry for the frustration - hope one of these ideas help!

    An original use of an area that is awesome often overlooked, a building style that seems to mostly fit in with the setting... Very well done. The only suggestion that I would make, in order to better blend in with the Commonwealth, would be to try alternating different walls & fences

    • @cryingcube2
      @cryingcube2  6 месяцев назад

      Thank you! Great suggestion too - it would be easy enough to swap out some of the solid barn walls with wall with holes or even add some warehouse walls. There is a variety of railings that could be used instead using the same railing. That would give it a scrappier Commonwealth look.

    This is an excellent build. I tried to build apartments using both wood pieces on one set, and railway cars for another. In sanctuary, the npcs walk in the apts no problem. In Starlight, for some odd reason, the npcs refuse to walk through doors to get to their assigned beds/rooms. They get stuck on the side of the door or stand in the rain like drenched monkeys. I've had to remove walls for them to go inside, then put them back with the door. Odd. I made walking roofs so they can climb up and see fireworks. instead, they sit by the drive in.

      Thank you! The use of railway cars is very interesting for an apartment build. Pathing has always been a problem in this game. I was really hoping that the next gen update would fix some of the pathing issues so that the settlers' movements would be more realistic.

I've tried numerous times to build something similar to what I built on the back, but the front side of the screen is curved and uneven which causes collision issues in a vanilla build. However - I have been studying the front side to see if there is something else that I can do with it. Not sure at this point what to do - but I would like to do something with that huge eyesore.

    Hi, can you please show us your product where you've placed everything inside the apartments

    • @cryingcube2
      @cryingcube2  Месяц назад

      Sure - I did a full tour of the Starlight Drive-in. The decorated tour of inside of the apartments can be found starting at 17:31. Here is link to the video:

      In the future, I might put together a video that is just a tour of the Starlight Apartments to make it easier to find.

    How did you go about wiring for electrics?

    • @cryingcube2
      @cryingcube2  11 дней назад

      In the finished settlement, I have a generator on the other side of the screen. I used the tall street lamps (from Wasteland Workshop I think) to run the wires around to the apartment side. I put power connectors on the wall above the doors of the 1st level to run the wires across the front of the apartments. This was enough to power lights on both the first and second levels. You can kinda see the wiring in the Starlight Drive-in tour video starting at around 17:30

    how did you get the first floor emplace?

    • @cryingcube2
      @cryingcube2  4 месяца назад

      I was able to freely place it on top of the storage room roof as long as it wasn't too close to the screen wall or pushed too far forward over the edge of the storage room. I've had a few viewers ask about the placement of the first floor - so I think I will make a quick video this week to show how to do that.

    It will not allow me to place a floor there or anywhere along that roof

    • @cryingcube2
      @cryingcube2  5 месяцев назад

      I found that if you try to push the floor too far forward (off the narrow edge of the roof) or try to place it above the blue part of the screen near the back edge of the roof, it is red and you can't place it. Other than that, I'm not sure why a floor can't be placed.

    I did this build except I wrapped it along both sides of the theatre screen, this is literally the only thing I’ve built at this settlement and my settlement size meter is full. Super annoying 😂

    • @cryingcube2
      @cryingcube2  5 месяцев назад +1

      I like the idea of wrapping it around the screen! That sounds very practical! For the size of Starlight it does have a very small build limit. I think the Skooled Zone has a good video on how to increase the build limit-but use with caution-if you extend it too much it can crash the game.

    Ben there done that. What is the point of no modes? No glitch, so you made a regular construction good for you. Zero originality.
