Hi, everyone. Apologies for the delay in getting this next settlement build video up. Sadly work problems scuppered my upload plans. I'm really grateful for all the positive feedback and kind messages encouraging me to get more content up. I glad so many of you are enjoying it or finding it useful.
Please consider commenting and let me know what you think of this settlement, or what you would like to see me cover in the future. I'd also love to hear from you guys about your own Starlight builds.
Looks very nice. "This is for roleplay", you mentioned that several times. I love it. I find myself constantly asking if what I'm doing is really necessary when decking out my bedroom, and my answer...to myself...is , "YES!" I really enjoy the relaxation of building, and planning for scenarios that will most likely never happen. It's a beautiful game. Nice video.
Thanks for the kind words, it's much appreciated. I really do lore build and role play in my head far more than is necessary for all the Fallout and Elder Scrolls games, I'm glad I'm not the only one.
"Planning for scenarios that will most likely never happen"
Yep. During my original 100 hour playthrough I built up Sanctuary with fences the entire way around... and it only ever got raided once by Radscorpians which spawned INSIDE the base. After that, I looked at where the spawn points were and just built a ton of turrets and defence stations near them. No need for walls or boundaries.
@@CurryFeatures I did exactly the same thing. See me Sanctuary video for how much effort I put into fencing that place off only to be baffled by raiders inside! Lol
Once the spawn points became known I took notice but sometimes still like a wall for roleplay and ascetics.
Those spawn points drive me nuts. Particularly the one at Grey Garden. They spawn right at the greenhouse doorway.
Wow. I’ve left my settlers in squaller didn’t even occur to me I could do something like this, thanks for the ideas!
Lol, hope your settlers enjoy the upgrade to their living conditions. Really pleased the video helped. Let me know if you need more help.
That is a fabulous idea to "hide' the power generator(s) away in the base of the screen building as a means of protecting them during settlement attacks! I am going to have to use that idea when I build at my Starlight site... I love that you build without mods, showing newer players like me what is possible without the need for dozens of mods. Thank you for another terrific settlement walk-through.
Thanks for your support!
It is really nice that you can fit the power into that walkway. As you say it gives it a lot of protection.
If things go well I have about ten more no mods builds ready for filming next year. So there could be lots more to come.
@@FalloutPBC I look forward to it.
I love function over form build style. This is simplistic but done incredibly well with just the right amount of asthetic flare to bring it to life and not just look thrown together. I just started playing FO4 about a month ago and building can seem overwhelming at first. But it really helps to see other builds for some ideas such as how you integrated the old screen into the build . I focused more on the projection/concession stand for my build. Thanks for posting
Thanks for the kind words Gordon. I'm glad the video has given you some ideas. Stay tuned for more builds soon. Welcome to the building obsession lol
Good luck with your builds my friend!
Very Cool! I love people that use no mods!
Hi, and thank you. More of my no mod builds from this playthrough will be coming soon!
Very impressive build, I never thought about building on top of the screen. I too roll play with my builds. My settlements are all a little different but the people tend to wear Combat armor the most and their weapons depends on which region they're in. Thanks
Really appreciate your comment. Building on top of the screen seemed to make logical sense to me in universe. But wow was it a pain to do! Lol
If the DLC's had of been out at the time I would definatly of used the scaffold set instead of the wood.
I too theme my settlers depending on the area of the map. I'm glad I'm not the only one who roll play's this sort of thing. Lol
I love that you are showing what can be done without mods! A great little fort!
Thanks Matt, I enjoy the challenge of no mod building. I'd love to know what you think of my other settlements too?
I love these kinds of builds more so then over complicated builds that I am sure took much time and still look amazing but, are for the most part impractical or just for looks mainly while this set up like may of yours have practical uses.
Love it, great work!
Thanks, I appreciate that.
I agree, I don't like the massive builds. I try to keep it mainly lore friendly. I think all my builds so far have been very usable and practical because they are real playthrough builds and not " show " builds specifically done for RUclips.
Glad you are enjoying them, thanks for watching and commenting and stay tuned for lots more settlements to come soon.
Cool video. Love the uniforms. Very interesting to see how you’ve added to the buildings over time. Thank you. 😊
Thanks Alice, you have given me an idea there, how about a whole vid about settler uniforms and equipment?
Fallout Play Build Collect I think that’s a great idea. 👍 I would love that. Your videos are so interesting. I love the enthusiasm in your tone. It’s brilliant. I would love to see how you put the uniforms together. 😁
@@alicecharles6178 Thanks for the kind words and the good idea. I'll definitely put together a uniform and equipment vid at some point.
My fort was all on the ground, I enjoyed seeing this one up high
Thanks! Building off the ground where possible makes sense in the game's lore to me. I do it a lot in my builds.
Well done! Don't apologize for making a realistic & spartan base without flashing lights & whistles every three steps. In my roleplay runs the best route forward for the Commonwealth seems to start with an organized military presence. Provisioners take on the role of first responders/deputies, meting out justice on the roads since the Vault Dweller can't be everywhere at once.
Love the extra roleplay detail, providing uniforms & the like. Glad to see I'm not the only one who does that. I find myself scavenging coast guard & sea captain hats to give to the settlers at coastal settlements.
I tend to bait in radscorpions & use them as defenses in sprawling settlements like this, Sanctuary, the Visitor's Center, or Longfellow's Cabin. Gotta love poisonous, teleporting shock troops. The downsides are they decrease overall happiness & if your generators are hit the Beta Wave Emitter might go down, leaving you with a mess on your hands. I used to use bears, but they would always find their way into the buildings. It is much easier to make choke points & elevated floors to restrict radscorpions.
Thanks, Johnny! I do love to fit in as much roleplay as I can to my playthroughs.
This game offers so much if you have the imagination to build and roleplay.
Glad to see I'm not the only one that collects outfits for my settlers. Nothing more frustrating than one settler having the wrong hat! lol
@@FalloutPBC The approach I took on a survival roleplay run was to designate Starlight Drive-In, Hangman's Alley, & Longfellow's Cabin as "training centers". All spare clothing, weapons, & armor went to these three locations & they were the only settlements with active beacons.
Rather than carry equipment to every settlement, I could kit them out in the appropriate attire & then reassign them to another settlement. My head canon was they were already there at the settlement but I didn't become notified until they had completed "basic training", at which point they were outfitted & reassigned.
I built lots of ultra-light armor mods so I could carry as much as possible & would strip those mods off to be stored in the workbench to be re-used later. All of my guards/provisioners wear marine armor purchased from The Nucleus with synth field helmets. It makes them look more bulky, impersonal, & intimidating.
@@Mr._Anderpson That sounds awesome!
I do something very similar. For my MM playthrough I used the castle in the same way. All my weapons and armour were stored there in the armoury. I recruit from there and then deploy them wherever they are needed.
I do settlement building very differently with the BOS but still use a similar system for the settlers.
It just makes sense right! Plus it's lore friendly and thematic.
Love that you built on top of the screen, that end of the settlement is generally ignored. Currently using this as my dump site for my companions, ghoul settlers, & any Brahmin, & dogs I rescue, figure it’s the safest place for my animals 😊
Edit: Also love that you fleshed out your security posts, made them like bunkers, cool idea 😊
Thanks! I do tend to build at the screen end mostly. It's just such a fun structure to build around. Plus I think it makes sense lore-wise to build off the ground as much as possible. But I will say it was a real pain the build-up there. Just one of those things where I get a picture in my head and just have to persevere until I get it done.
I have another build where I built up one side of the screen, over the top and down the other side. That was a real pain to get right too.
You are right that this is a good spot to set up your main base. I often use it in most play thoughts.
Very nice work, always fun to see new ideas.
Thank you very much!
Glad I'm not the only one who says similar things like : RolePlay purposes only.
The workshop mode I somehow link to my childhood when I'd build forts in my room or outside.
Yes, it's the same for me! lol, I was constantly building bases for my action figures as a kid. All my builds have a major role play element. This game was like a dream come true for me.
This was really dope well done
Many thanks!
Would love to see how you rug glitch the water purifiers. I wasn't aware you could do that in water.
My next tips vid is on the rug glitch, I was just about to release it! But I'll go back to the edit add some footage of moving a water purifier just for you my friend.
i decorated mine and if you had the mechanists dlc and grind materials you can make some great guards and I put them in defence to main my actual settlers in resources or happiness but this design is nice and I love the way you've added a roleplay aspect to it with the outfits. Nice build!
Thanks, great to hear for someone who likes using the robots and likes adding in roleplay too! Check out my all robot Gray Garden build if you get a chance. Plus I have a nice robot supply hub build vid coming soon. So stay tuned for lots more Mechanist action coming up.
Creative simplicity. Really like the "castle & mote" style theme and am very tempted to copy that specific concept (bravo). Knowing myself, though, I'm much too lazy to build something as small-big as that.
Thank you!
Go for it! I'd love to see other people's take on this idea. This was built up slowly over a long playthrough so I'm sure you can do it!
My starlight build from a long dead playthrough was basically covering the crater with foundations and building up from there to have a decent medium-sized warehouse, with a bed or two and some workbenches. In that playthrough I didn't much care for the settlement grind, I just wanted to see what I could throw down and work with. Wish I still had the save file.
Anyway, good video!
Many thanks! This is a good spot for a big warehouse.
Great video and impressive work!
Thanks, that's kind of you to say. Hope to see you again in future builds.
Dude I like by chance came across your video and I love the build, like the design, idea is amazing I think and I'm definitely gonna incorporate it in one of my settlement builds, I do use a shit ton of mods and all but I like it
Dude thanks for commenting, I'm really pleased you found the channel. I'm glad you like the build and I hope your build comes out even better. Let me know how it goes.
I hope I can do something similar on pc, I made the assumption it would be to tall for the game mechanics. Your build is pretty awesome 👏🍻🖖
Many thanks! I have two more even bigger builds at Starlight I'd like to finish and get up on here at some point.
Good luck with your build I hope it works out well.
Great build man! I wish the npc's would have better assign options, just becauze the roleplayer in me sees what is possible
Thanks man!
Me too! The things they could have done with follow-ups to this game. I thought at the time they would do another game with the same engine, a few years later focused on the settlement building and management side of the game. Such a massive missed opportunity.
Wow ! Really cool idea. That must have been a real pain to get those buildings on top of the screen with no mods.
Many thanks for the comment. It was a nightmare, it was an idea I had that I just couldn't let go. So I stuck with it till I got it all to line up. I'm doing another build on top of the screen, on a new play though. This time i'm using the scaffold pieces. Still tricky but much easier than the old wood. Still no DLC's when I did this one.
Also would like to see a video of how this was built
Thanks, I've been experimenting with recording the stages of the build process for a number of new builds. So that's something I may be doing in the future.
I'd like to have gone back and done this for these older builds but realistically it's unlikely I'll ever get the time unless the support for the channel really grows.
Insane 👏🏻
Many thanks!
New to fallout 4, got sanctuary mostly build but there more i want to do to it later. But this place in this video i like the space so i want this to be my 2nd place to start building
Welcome to the game and our little community here. I think Starlight Drive-In is the best place to build overall. It's great to have the option of building in the open space or to feature the cool buildings at either end.
I have two more big builds at this location, both very different. I hope to get them up on the channel at some point.
When you build for hours and fall off the roof and die
Lol! This just happen to me, I've been building at the lighthouse and fell off the top, lost tons of work.
So glad I found your channel got a few ideas now from you. Especially with the concrete pieces. It wouls be cool to make a long concrete inner tunnel to connect to the otherside of the drive in. Make it like a bunker system. Kinda my idea. Is drive in a good center location to use for artillery/supply lines
Many thanks, and welcome to the channel!
Glad it's given you some excellent ideas. The tunnel sounds like a cool idea.
Yes this is a great site for a hub and artillery.
@@FalloutPBC appercaite the reply on both videos and advice. I really like your simple building with not to much detail, but just the righy amount. I used yout trash can idea from gray garden for all the mods and other items I don't want. Going to build a pier type housing area in sanctuary when I get enough resources
@@specrtre Glad to be of help my friend. I really don't like to do to much decoration, I think most people over do it. I pleased you think I got the balance right for my builds, thanks.
Your idea for Sanctuary sounds very cool! I hope the build goes well.
Very nice.
Thanks for watching and commenting. More cool builds coming very soon.
As you've probably heard by now there's a bit of an exploit to eke down your build limit bar by dropping weapons in a pile then entering settlement build mode & replacing them back into inventory. For me the Gama Guns have the biggest impact. Rinse / Repeat. Some of my settlements are so large now it takes a minute for them to load. I like Nuka World RR the best because of it's single spawn point it's less likely to crash & enemies fly all over in under a second (They usually get one taunt out) Like your sky base. Had to give up on prop gens because no matter where placed they take damage. Too bad cause I like the concept. (Silent) Keep making build videos , it's relaxing to see other people's art.
Thanks so much for your support! More build videos are on the way, so don't forget to subscribe.
I did weapon glitch the build limit a few times on this one. I try not to push it too far, but it's so tempting when you want to add more right? Lol
Nice
Thank you!
This an amazing build mate … i like to try this in my play through too …I was wondering if you use the weapon glitch to gain more build space??? 🤔🤔 once again awesome build …..
Wow thanks so much for the high praise. It's quite an old build so I cant say by how much but I did glitch the build limit. It was a bit here and a bit there. The build limit is so frustrating there was so much more I wanted to do with this one. But as we now know if you go too far the game crashes. I had that problem with the Gray Garden build and had to scale it back to stop the constant crashing. This one has been stable. So you should be fine to copy it.
If you do copy something like this I'd love to know how it goes! Good luck with your builds mate! And thanks again for the comment.
I use this site as my military factory where all my uniforms, ammo, and weapons are built. Again, pure role play.
Great idea! It makes sense with it being such a central location.
@@FalloutPBC It's of the flattest and biggest sites if I remember correctly so it became my supply hub.
@@Seriona1 I have a Railroad playthrough build that uses this settlement as it's supply hub too. It's just such a great area to build.
Top!!
Many thanks!
Couple questions, great build by the way, where do you get the railing I can’t find those and how did you build on top of the concrete base with the wood floors mine won’t let me place wood on top of the concrete base
Many thanks!
The railings are from the Concrete set. I'm not sure what you mean about the floors, if I remember correctly all the floors here are just standard base pieces. Some of the floors ( metal floors ) and the walls are all from the same concrete set.
I'm guessing you don't have the DLC's ?
The cantilevered overhangings are a bit far-fetched. But, I do like the bridge entrance.
Many thanks for the comment. I'd love to have done more to this settlement but I was well past the build limit. I have the crashing problem on most of my larger settlements now, so I probably won't be able to fix and finish them how I would have liked.
Je n'aime pas trop l'intérieur devant, c'est trop rempli. Sinon la construction est géniale. La vue est superbe.
Many thanks!
I have been returning to this build recently. I agree the front was too untidy and cluttered. I will be doing an updated version of this at some point with lots of improvements. So stay tuned to the channel.
Hey man, fantastic build, trying to do something similar myself atm! May I ask how did you manage to fit the corner wall that separates bedroom ( at 8:24)? I can’t build it in between two roofed shack walls :(
I probably built that section about 7 years ago so I'm not sure but I don't recall having a problem. I know those end panels can be a bit fussy, I had a problem with them the other day. It's usually a build order issue. I think I probably put the end panels in first, then the next wall section.
I'll try it tonight to make sure and get back to you.
@@FalloutPBC perfect, thank you! Much appreciated that you take the time to respond even under such older videos.
@@Todd1451 Well this took me a bit of time to work out what I had done. So you are right you can't put the end pannel in when the roofed walls are already in place. I thought it was a build order issue at first but putting the end wall in first means you can't place the next wall.
I was just thinking I may have rug-glitched them in when I remembered! If you build the roofed walls on the ground it doesn't work but if you build them on a base floor it works fine!
So you put the floors down first, then the first roofed wall, then the end wall, then the second roofed wall. It's the connection to the floor that makes it snap into place.
Does that make sense Todd?
@@FalloutPBC Yes, just did it as you said and it worked! Many many thanks my man!
@@Todd1451 That's great! Glad it worked, happy building my friend.
There’s a mod that actually adds more build space….in case you weren’t aware. Lolz…
Mods ? What are mods ? Lol!
Question. On top of that big tower with all your power armors. On the very top there is a railing in the middle of the top. How you get around or rid of it? I did not see it when you went to the top of the highest building.
Hi! Sorry, I'm not sure I understand the question. It's a no mods build so nothing was altered or removed.
@@FalloutPBC The tallest building in Starlight has metal railing on the top. How do you go about glitching a floor to fit with the railing in the way?
@@allanholiday2325 It's really tricky. It was 7 years ago but I remember taking ages trying to get it just right. This was back before any of the DLC's so all I had was the wood floors.
I've done similar builds there since and I always use the scaffold set now. It's still a pain to get just right, but it's a lot easier than the old wood floors.
Plus I have lifts on the side now too!
Can you make a video on how to do powered door please
I have a video coming soon on how to do some cool things with power. Should be out early in the new year.
watching along, I see a very clean/beautiful desk and amazing picnic tables (not the ratty ones) How did you get those? You said this is no mods, so it has to be somewhere, and I've missed it ^,^'
(i'm a little obsessed with trying to give my settlers the cleanest/nicest things I can give them :) )
Sorry... I should have waited to do the comments so I didn't chain like this, but yes, I would love to see you do a thing on how you moved the water tanks over. That would make protecting some of my settlements a lot easier.
Also, I really loved the very simple button push slide open doors. They looked clean and amazing :)
Hi thanks for the question. These are all in the Vault
Tec DLC. The desk is listed in defense > guard posts, and the table is in the furniture > chairs tabs. Hope this helps.
The more comments the better! I'm happy to do a vid on moving the water purifiers, I'll add it to my shooting list. I'll give you a shout out in the vid too for being the first person to ask for it.
@@FalloutPBC I do admit I've played a little bit less with the specifically vault dlc because I was afraid of needing a ton of space for the vault pieces. It never even occurred to me to look for fun little things that might be in there ^,^'
I walled starlight light in but they keep getting stuck in floor
I put my food on roof and was running 200 power and 90 water with over 250 defense
Any idea how stop that getting stuck in floor or are they styhs
Hi Matthew, thanks for the question. It's hard to say for sure. There are so many bugs and problems with settler interaction. You could try picking up the floors and putting them back that works sometimes. Also it can be a pathing issue, try picking up and reattaching any steps or stairs, that works for me sometimes. Hope this helps.
@@FalloutPBC I found it the floor I chose and get worse if you add hundred unit power plant so maybe they styhs
Where do you get the military green barricades?
Vault Tec DLC
@@FalloutPBC thank you been looking for them for a while
How do you get them concrete wall?
They are in the second DLC fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Wasteland_Workshop
Do u hafta 100% the game to unlock all these items in workshop?
Corey most of the building parts are available from the start. Some like the concrete walls are from DLC packs and are available right from purchase. Vault and robot parts are DLC and require you to do a quest to unlock. The artillery piece is available during the Minutemen quest line.
Hope this helps!
So how do we build gun racks and mannequin if this is no mods ?
