Al was wearing some kind of Nazi war helmet. I had never been to anything even close to that kind of amazingness before. The one and only Ministry. RIP.
I was there! One of the best concerts I have ever seen in my life! Best part was Nivek Ogre singing Smothered Hope with them! The show was at Studio 10, the old Cignel. KMFDM opened~!
I was at one of the concerts recorded for this (Star Theatre, Merrilville IN, Feb 22, 1990) and dislocated my shoulder. KMFDM opened and I never liked them much beyond "More and Faster" and a couple other tracks until I saw them live. This is one of my top 5 concert experiences. *I miss this belligerence.*

"It's not our fault, that we were born too late"....... I was born in '85 and I've been listening to Ministry, NIN, Siouxie and the Banshees, Nitzer Ebb, The Young Gods and KMFDM since I was 4-5 years old. I was lucky enough to have an older brother who was into industrial and a mom, who, apparently, didn't mind me being exposed to this amazing genre. So yeah, it's fucking possible for us youngins'.
Saw them on this tour at a hole in the wall during my senior year of high school. Along with the New Year's Even 1990 show by NIN at the same venue and KMFDM, Nitzer Ebb and Pigface shows within the next few years later at other small-ish clubs, those were the salad days of industrial.
Those names and the memories of the music. Priceless literally. Al Jourgensoun was lost after this line-up was no more. Psalm 69 does not compare to landof rape and honey, and mind is a terrible thing to taste. There was a few good songs. But the aforementioned albums were the best with the band. Paul Barker was especially a major loss. I remember buying this live show on vhs back then. I used to repeat the laughter on one of the songs over and over again. Epic albums not to be repeated.
Ministry and Revolting Cocks performed on Jan 29 1989 at “Show Case” in San Antonio, KMFDM as well, the greatest concert I ever went, this song is a masterpiece
I read in Jorgensen's book that KMFDM changed the recorded samples on some of the Ministry tracks at some of the live shows to fuck with the band. At least Al had a sense of humour, he pretty much gave KMFDM exposure.
Saw this video on vhs in mid 90s on LSD by myself & I was goddamned hooked forever. Sounds even better at age 42. You never lose the truths you discover as an adolescent in America! Hopefully! RIP BR

its a trip going from their old 1981 new wave synthpop song revenge video to a live video where he screams "i only kill to know i'm ALLLLIIIVE"!! the range this band has....damn
9:36 My favorite part of this video when the mosher scrambles up the chain link fence to 'say hello' to Chris and then gets yanked off by the bouncer. Hilarious! Man, the energy at that concert must have been amazing! :D
Funny genius....hardcore shows never got ACTUALLY dangerous. It was always just pretend. But putting up a fence did two things. 1) it made it seem like the band was in danger from the crowd (which gave the crowd a feeling of power) and 2) it gave the crowd freedom to go absolutely apeshit without fear.
Supergroup? Well, perhaps, but they are playing a pretty small venue in Dallas in a few months, Gas Monkey, which is a medium sized club. I'm definitely goin!
I was a 16 year old lassie in 1990 when I saw them at the local UNI with the cage and whole bit, crazy show - totally out of my element, got in the pit anyway. Have NEVER stopped loving Ministry from that moment forward.
This is still one of my all time favorite albums. I think I got this on tape in 91ish? Every single song so damn good and better than the real recordings. Hits hard AF and all of it true AF. Ministry of this era were so far ahead of their time. If this came out today it would go nuts.
I used to hang out and listen to Ministry, Nitzer Ebb, Front 242, etc. at Masquerade in Atlanta in the late 80's. I was in the Marine Corp reserves and in 1990 I carried this tape in my Walkman to Operation Desert Storm...and remember being in fighting hole I dug myself in southern Kuwait looking through night vision goggles out in the middle of friggin nowhere in the desert listen to this song waiting to waste something that moved. I think I had a little Faith No More with me too.
In San Diego, probably mid 90's, Martin Atkins played a very small venue. Everyone decided to go the The Ramones show. There wasn't anyone there. We got to hang out for awhile. He signed my favorite Pigface CD. Really nice guy.
1992, I was sixteen. I pressed REC in the vcr to this while it's on an obscure show in chilean tv. The show starts at 1am and finishes at 5 or 6. I never watched the 4 hours. My brother from the bedroom screamed: turn that shit off i try to sleep !!!!
+Angie White Answering your question two years later. Because deep down I guess you're yearning for those days, your youth and your lost freedom. Doing what the fuck you wanted and screw the consequences. I know I am.
Angie White thatmakes you now the same age as me. Straight-laced even at our age compared to now just doesn't seem right. My 17 yr old son likes to ask for music advice from me. Likes this stuff and others. Happy, and feeling my age. At least he likes good music.
Maybe you're not that straight laced, but you want to be perceived as such for the sake of (what appears to be?) your daughter. I'm just suggesting an alternative hypothesis, since you started with "how is it that," not trying to judge the merits of you or your lifestyle. :p
thanks a lot for this! i hope it gets released on DVD soon. Such powerful songs and performances. "So What?" is probably my favorite Ministry song. Midtempo stomper, pretty calm compared to most Ministry songs but those lyrics are so powerful.
Hands down my favorite live concert song to watch of all time. If this doesn't make you just want to go beat the crap out of somebody, nothing will, lol.
There's a scene in a Chuck Klosterman book about a Slayer concert where 2 guys punched each other at the beginning of Reign In Blood. They got tossed out. He followed them to see if they kept fighting but they just looked at each other. Dazed😂
This is why I love Chris Connelly as a musician and vocalist: he can go from the power and venom of a tune like this to stuff that's just heartbreakingly beautiful.
'88 was when everything started blowing up again ( hardcore, punk, oi, ska, industrial, etc.) including collaborations between artists of different genres; other than than the early eighties, those were the true salad days!
Just finished reading Al's auto-biography (it's more depraved and awesome than I had hoped for) and i'm in full-on Ministry mode. I wasn't aware of these guys until Psalms 69. Seeing this makes me wish i had found them sooner to have seen this era live. thanks for posting this.
I love this song!!!! If anyone doesn't know the samples they are playing behind the music,it's from a movie called the violent years🎬🎭 it's an old exploitation film B/W , about these girls who go around sticking up Gas stations and the leader kills a cop and the judge makes this big speech about juvinal delinquency and sentences her. I like where the judge says "if the old woodshed would be receive more use, then vandalism wouldn't be such a problem"😆
this cd was stuck in my first or second car back in high school and I'm glad it was, this shit formed a lot of my musical inspirations in my adult life for sure.
One of the greatest bands of ALL time. Seen them 8 times over a long time period and they still provide something new every time. God (or Satan) bless Uncle Al. He's a nice fella too in a fucked up kinda way!
I was 15 when I saw them play at the Hollywood Palladium in 1989. FKN legendary! The music produced by Ministry has been a huge influence in my life and I thank them for that. Well... back to work. These burgers don't assemble themselves.

Problem with the "later" Ministry (after filthpig) was the wrong mix of chemicals & narcism
"from the VHS" explains its greatness
I like how at about 1:30 into the video a bunch of Robert Smith's(The Cure) come dancing in.... odd
Best Ministry lineup ever, Chris is amazing, maybe the best concert ever...
The best gig (tour) I never went to. The greatest live show I've ever seen....
I wish there was enough intrest in this for it to get digitally remasterd...
My VHS copy died 10 years ago...
Sorry to hear thatalot of vhs get ignoredt
Send a letter to uncle AL
So much ENERGY !!!!!! Gettin old myself but this hits home and wakes ya up more than 2 espressos :P ... One of my favorite Live albums ever
I saw this on VHS about 20 years ago. It blew my mind. Too bad I couldn't see it live... Legendary performance.
I was a 16 year old lassie in 1990 when I saw them at the local UNI with the cage and whole bit, crazy show - totally out of my element, got in the pit anyway. Have NEVER stopped loving Ministry from that moment forward.
this is the SHYTE!!!!! best live song ever performed! their sound quality is insane!! so I say SO WHAT? SO WHAT?
This is still one of my all time favorite albums. I think I got this on tape in 91ish? Every single song so damn good and better than the real recordings. Hits hard AF and all of it true AF. Ministry of this era were so far ahead of their time. If this came out today it would go nuts.
Was at the show in Baltimore. Without, the most insane smaller show I have ever been to and I saw Slayer in a gutted rowhome. :)
This is amazing. Best industrial rock/metal band in my humble opinion.
La oí por primera vez en 1993 mi mente vuela al pasado sensaciones llegan a mi mente y cuerpo recuerdos sólo recuerdos Alejandra
best album to work out to, or punch walls to.
This was an amazing show. Ministry is such a great band.
1992, I was sixteen. I pressed REC in the vcr to this while it's on an obscure show in chilean tv. The show starts at 1am and finishes at 5 or 6. I never watched the 4 hours. My brother from the bedroom screamed: turn that shit off i try to sleep !!!!
my favorite holiday music right here...
How is it that I'm a straight laced 38-year-old mother and the sight of those little black dreadlocks still make me swoon....ah memories.
Age doesn't matter, little black dreadlocks appeal to everyone.
Maybe you're not that straight laced, but you want to be perceived as such for the sake of (what appears to be?) your daughter. I'm just suggesting an alternative hypothesis, since you started with "how is it that," not trying to judge the merits of you or your lifestyle. :p
Because Ogre was sexy AF.
thanks a lot for this! i hope it gets released on DVD soon. Such powerful songs and performances. "So What?" is probably my favorite Ministry song. Midtempo stomper, pretty calm compared to most Ministry songs but those lyrics are so powerful.
MINISTRY! Been a fan for over 20 years, seen them several times, and it NEVER gets old.
Saw this at the Riv in Chicago in 88 or 89. amazing show. the walls were sweating.
Do the new gen realize what Angst Music is??!! This Is the real shit
Absolute Amazing
Wow. viejos recuerdos.. mi adolescencia en Lima- década 90's, yo de 12 años.. viendo en VHS a Ministry en concierto, exploit mi head: SO What'
I saw this tour when I was 15 and growing up in Chicago. Their stage show scared the shit out of me
Just finished reading Al's auto-biography (it's more depraved and awesome than I had hoped for) and i'm in full-on Ministry mode. I wasn't aware of these guys until Psalms 69. Seeing this makes me wish i had found them sooner to have seen this era live. thanks for posting this.
love that drummers head. banging blond blur of hair flying
martin atkins. Pigface arises again this fall!
That's William Rieflin
@@johnbox5768 Bill was on the left, Martin is the white hair and bumble bee shirt
@@WindyTrousers .. and now again this year!
Hell yeah.Fucken love this song.
I remember my sister and I constantly watching Ministry VHS 📼 and listened to this cassette.
My fav song of all time!!!!!!!!
Never do you see the actual video footage from the same live album which is why l thought this was so cool!!
I love this song!!!!
If anyone doesn't know the samples they are playing behind the music,it's from a movie called the violent years🎬🎭 it's an old exploitation film B/W , about these girls who go around sticking up
Gas stations and the leader kills a cop and the judge makes this big speech about juvinal delinquency and sentences her. I like where the judge says "if the old woodshed would be receive more use, then vandalism wouldn't be such a problem"😆
this cd was stuck in my first or second car back in high school and I'm glad it was, this shit formed a lot of my musical inspirations in my adult life for sure.
I saw this show in Ybor City, Tampa Bay Florida. It. was. Awesome.
One of the greatest bands of ALL time. Seen them 8 times over a long time period and they still provide something new every time. God (or Satan) bless Uncle Al. He's a nice fella too in a fucked up kinda way!
I remember this and 30 yrs later still love it...46 and still getting my industrial on, and can out dance all you younglings
I was 15 when I saw them play at the Hollywood Palladium in 1989. FKN legendary! The music produced by Ministry has been a huge influence in my life and I thank them for that. Well... back to work. These burgers don't assemble themselves.
Martin Atkins! Fuck yeah old Ministry rules.
+maxeypad yes they do//////////////////////////////
+maxeypad You dabble in ween and ministry interesting.
+burninginside75 Variety is the spice of life. :)
my favl....does anyone hear bella lugosys dead from BAHS HAHS SORRY IF I MISPELLED ANYWORDS THE BEGINNING OF SO WHAT????
37 SECONDS THE EITHER CG OR REALLY PLAYED ON THE DRUMS IT IS A SWEET MIX UNTIL CONNELY STARTS HIS WAILING VOCALS PERFECTION..
Being in West Australia,I only saw em once ,but ministry is the soundtrack of my teens 😎👍
The voice that says "respect" is sampled from the judge in The Violent Years
The guy talking about thrill seeking??
@@tcb9775 yeah all of the dialog samples are from the judge in "the violent years" . ruclips.net/video/04NVmHd2EVE/видео.html
and mst3k did a spoof
the vibe is epic, its the bass and the drums in this one that really make it, the drumming is off the hook, and the build up
The second best show I have ever been to.
