Thank you for this video and all the other videos. I've passed my driving test but I'm too scared to do parralel park due to the fear of hitting other cars. I really like that speedometer used in the car, looks really useful. Where did you purchase it from? I purchased one from amazon and it wasn't great.
Omg same! I stupidly took a break from driving because of high insurance prices. Now I've lost my confidence and I'm trying to get it back after 6 years of not driving
Thank you so much. This is exactly what I need as I have recently passed and I'm struggling with this manoeuvre. Your site has been extremely useful and informative.
We didn't have parking on the driving test when I learnt - the first time I had to park was coming back from my test! I learned parallel parking from a public information ad on the TV when I was a kid. Now a learner driver has asked me to take him out for practice sessions so I thought I'd better brush up on modern driving lesson techniques - thanks for the video!
No problem! Please see our other video that shows how this manoeuvre is conducted on the test: Ultimate Guide to Parallel Parking ruclips.net/video/B33OWTJZWS8/видео.html Good luck! 👍🏼
mirror speed i do then manoeuvre I'm watching for more confidence last time I messed that a bit but I'm sure your videos on that same as rest do help my teacher said they seem to be working .
I love your channel. It will help me to learn driving quickly in future. In India, you can also get a driving license by paying bribe for Rs 2000. But, I promise, I won't cheat.
I am from australia. I have drive test tomorrow around this time. I was looking forward for this video. Your video's are so helpful. Hope i will do my best. Thank you !!
One and a half times length of your car as a gap is still generous. You need to learn how to park in a space that you can’t fit a cigarette paper between the car in front and the one behind ! That’s magic : it can be done; but it can’t be taught !
We would never try and park in a gap that small, as it would be very easy to touch the cars we are parking between and cause damage. Far better to look for a larger gap!
Another fantastic video, i passed in December and found your videos incredibly useful and still do! One query on tight spots - do you have any tips for telling when your getting to close to the other cars? i find myself leaving to much of a gap sometimes as i am worried about getting to close
If you’re preparing for a Driving Test, this video might also be useful: Reverse Parallel Parking Manoeuvre | 2019 UK Driving Test ruclips.net/video/FetKmuscFY8/видео.html
I never have a tecnique when doing parallel.. i do it everyday cus i dont have a driveway at home and its mostly very tight. Some days i can do in one go.. some with alot of adjustments.. but really it doesnt matter how many times you adjust.. as long as its slow and safe... also.. you have to be considerate of the parked cars in front and back and have an even space inbetween for them to also be able to get out. I hate it when they parked too close infront of me or behind me and i almost couldnt get out the next day *sigh*
As helpful as this video is, the people behind you kept their distance. I’ve had to abort when people have been right up my backside on a busy high street because they prevent me from getting into the space. This is despite signalling and giving plenty of notice. What makes it even more demoralising is when they then steal your space and have a much larger car.
Useful video thanks. What you don't mention is that the front of the car swings out further than its original position when reversing and turning, especially with full lock. Isn't this a hazard when parking on narrower roads with parked cars on the opposite side of the space you're moving into (i.e. parked cars on the right side of the road when you're parking on the left side)?
Yes, it can be tricky to parallel park in narrow streets that have double-parked cars. We would position closer to the car we are parking behind, to give us a little more space to turn. Perhaps we’ll try to show this in a future video 👍🏼
@@AdvanceDrivingSchool Thanks! My car model is quite wide so I always worry about clipping the parked car on the opposite side when reversing -- any tips/demos would be useful.
The picture quality is stunning. I wonder what car that is: it's beautiful. My only disappointment is that we did not get to see the 'moves' from outside of the car. That would have made a huge difference.I am told not to start turning left full lock toward the space until my front wheels are almost in line with the back wheel of the stationary car. What I saw here was different though...
There are many different methods for this manoeuvre, but this works for us when the gap is tight. For an overhead view watch our other video on this manoeuvre where we filmed it with a drone. Unfortunately this is not allowed to be flown in a built up area, so we couldn’t use it for this video.
Are you able to do a video on parrallel parking from the front or reverse parallel parking on a steep decline - I live up by wales and most of the parallel parking I’m expected to do is a reverse hill start into parallel park - if you do thank you
Thanks for the idea. Unfortunately where we live is relatively flat and has no streets like you mention. However we have filmed hill starts and parallel parking separately so you just need to combine both skills. Good luck 👍🏼
Try not to worry - the space allowed for this manoeuvre in the driving test is quite generous! Watch this video instead: Reverse Parallel Parking: ruclips.net/video/FetKmuscFY8/видео.html
Hello I am learning in an automatic car with electric brake .the problem is when I need to reverse I have trouble controlling the speed. I would be greatful for any ideas Thank You. Ivan
When manoeuvring in an automatic car it’s all about brake control. Unless you are trying to move uphill, never let go of the brake pedal - just lift a touch to move, and press a little to stop. Very fine movements are all you need to move slowly. Good luck 🤞🏼
In the first lesson covering this manouvre my instructor got me to attempt it on the left and right and said could get either on the driving test - but this video says that's wrong (he also in an earlier lesson said you can't drive out a parking bay to readjust as that's a fail....)
Great video ..but I am curious to know how I will understand the car is 45 degree angle ..sometimes I am too wide and sometimes hit the curb though manage to put in a tight space ...help please ..thanks in advance
In our other video about parallel parking we show how we use a reference point to spot when we are at the right angle to steer right. Maybe give that a watch?
Im Always stressed when exiting the parallel parking spot.. im scared ill hit the car in front and when im reversing im scared ill hit the back car. Any advice? Btw its interesting to see new techniques as ive been only taught to parallel park by steering fully towards the curb, reverse towards 45 degrees, straighten the whe and when i see the plate of the front car steer fully the opposite way
My only problem while doing this is that I cant figure out if my car is straight after parking :-). The lines defined here for parking area are not present here(most places that I have seen) so I have to get down and see and make adjustments if needed. Great video. The manoeuvre here is done so quickly and without stopping.
The earlier video was done in much better way. I learned perfect parallel parking from this video after practising it multiple times. So all the viewers, please go through this video to understand the complete nuances. ruclips.net/video/FetKmuscFY8/видео.html
it's more problem exiting when someone just parks 2 feet to my car and I have half a feet at the back. 2.5 feet would I be even able to exit? some people are just idiots who blocks
We always try to leave the same gap at both ends of our car to reduce this problem catching us out. If someone does park really close, then we will have to resort to 'dry steering' and shuffling forwards and backwards to get out. If you have another person to guide you it can help in a tight spot, or if not reflections in shop windows or nearby cars are helpful.
The demonstration could have been better considering that new drivers like myself couldn't grasp where our position the car should be before turning the while right or left.
This video is intended for a driver that has mastered the basic technique and has passed their driving test. This video shows exactly what to do: ruclips.net/video/FetKmuscFY8/видео.html 👍🏼
As long as the car is in full control it doesn’t matter where you hold the steering wheel. The days where the examiners expect a specific steering technique are long gone thankfully.
There is no need for comments like that! It's just that we don't consider that rigidly sticking to antiquated ideas about steering technique has any benefit - in fact it can even be a distraction from other hazards. There are better things to focus on in the limited time we have with each pupil, such as forward planning and anticipation - as those skills will help someone be safe far more than how they hold the steering wheel.
@@michaelrauch4017 Pull Push steering has never been advocated for reversing or maneuvering in tight spaces. Speed of movement not accuracy or smoothness is the key here - one is simply applying alternate full lock rapidly whilst moving slowly.

We would not even try to park in gaps any smaller than these, as the risk of damaging either car is too high.
