    Daniel shows you how to make a royal court banchan! This one is called Tteokgalbi. It is short ribs minced into a meatball patty. Nowadays, homecooks prefer to use minced pork and beef. But in the Joseon Dynasty, the story is that they wanted to make it easy for the king to eat short ribs. They didn't want him to struggle in eating it. Sounds like too much pampering - haha! Today, I visualize how to make this delicious "royal" banchan.

    It's like Korean counterpart of Galouti kebab. It originated in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India. When the Nawab became toothless due to old age, the royal cooks came up with the kebab... Obviously the spices are absolutely different.
    You can try making Galouti kebabs too... Very yummmmmm!

    add left over ginger to some sweet tea. It won't be as bad ^_^
    Also, lovely recipe. I am curious try it with the pear! But here's my question. Would it be very sweet with all that sugar and honey in the marinade? is it like a sweet burger patty?

    • @unknowndeoxys00
      @unknowndeoxys00 6 лет назад +1

      Ginny Clyde I would describe it as sweet but not overbearingly so, with a definite savoriness from the soy sauce and nuttiness from sesame oil. I think the glaze might be responsible for the initial hit of sweetness, to which I would adjust to taste if necessary with a tiny bit more soy sauce or water. Honey just makes the patties shiny but will add sweetness you don't expect in the typical hamburger patty.
      Plus, a nice bowl of rice will help tone flavors down and make the sweetness balance out.

    • @FutureNeighbor
      @FutureNeighbor  6 лет назад +2

      The flavor of Tteokgalbi is slightly sweet & savory. And I think the ratios came out quite nice. Don't worry. I (too) don't enjoy sweet dishes.
