Daniel shows you how to make a royal court banchan! This one is called Tteokgalbi. It is short ribs minced into a meatball patty. Nowadays, homecooks prefer to use minced pork and beef. But in the Joseon Dynasty, the story is that they wanted to make it easy for the king to eat short ribs. They didn't want him to struggle in eating it. Sounds like too much pampering - haha! Today, I visualize how to make this delicious "royal" banchan.

Hi Neighbors! I am headed to California tomorrow to visit my parents. Next videos... from my parent's kitchen! 🙃 Will nudge my momma to come on film 🤠
can't wait for more.. and i will try this recipe for sure😊
Have a good trip mate.
Have a safe journey :)
Hopefully we get to meet her. If you pass by L.A. please wave hello and goodbye. Love your channel!
Future Neighbor I'll be looking forward to meet your mamma!! Welcome to Cali!!
You just gave me a way to add a different flavor to my veggie burgers. Thanks, and if this cooking thing doesn't work out for you, you could always try stand up comedy.
To think that the king was just a bun a way to create the hamburger
McKim's 👍
It's like Korean counterpart of Galouti kebab. It originated in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India. When the Nawab became toothless due to old age, the royal cooks came up with the kebab... Obviously the spices are absolutely different.
You can try making Galouti kebabs too... Very yummmmmm!
Oh God.. I m already drooling!
"It's not that bad... But it's bad" "That ginger is giving me superpowers" oh my God 😂😂😂
That shot of ginger felt like whiskey!
At least the ginger is better for you 😂

Oh yes!! She my sensei haha... so I too will be learning in the next few videos. Hopefully, she agrees! We'll see ☺️
Ooo. Simple and easy recipe. You had me going when you took that shot of ginger juice. Hope you're okay now. After all, you lived to tell the tale.
It felt like a shot of whiskey. I felt warmth 🤤
@@FutureNeighbor You'll never be sick again! lol
Best episode I‘ve seen so far. Keep on your good work.
I cooked this recipe some months ago and it's delicious, though i didn't use the blender for the ginger, i chop it. I will try to do it this way. Thank you 😀
Danyul, Katie: My Korean mother is living with me now, probably until December, because her house burned down a few months ago. I am going to make this dish for her because it will be easy for her to eat, as she can eat it without her dentures. Love you guys!
I lived in Daegu 5 years ago, and my school went out for this dish one time. It was delicious! One of my favorites. (We also had it with tteok.) Mmmmm
That last note though 😂😂

"We Koreans could have invented the Hamburger" ha ha ha Dan-Yul you're too much
Have a safe trip....Daniel loves his sesame seed garnishes!!
They're nashi pears over here in Australia and they are pretty common now, the supermarkets even have them :). Though you can get them all year round from any Asian market too :P.
This reminds me of the 牛肉饼 filling. Yummy! Nice vid as usual 😊
Oh wow, I am so going to make this and have it with rice. Yum😋
Cool
Oh no, ginger drop ! Oh well, 3 second rule, lol !!!! Yum !!!!!!!
Yeahhh more royal cuisine please 😍
I’m salivating...
Dan-yul! That looks so tender juicy and delicious!
Yum
I laughed out loud when you shot that ginger juice. "it's not that bad... it's bad."
맛있겠당
I’m so sad the kings of Chosan never experienced the primal joy of ripping meat from ribs 😭
Dan Yul you are so funny. I love your channel.
Amazing
😘😘😘
Oh yeah that will definitely be used for some homemade burger!
would grilling it be good?
Would this work with all beef or maybe even ground turkey?
add left over ginger to some sweet tea. It won't be as bad ^_^
Also, lovely recipe. I am curious try it with the pear! But here's my question. Would it be very sweet with all that sugar and honey in the marinade? is it like a sweet burger patty?
Ginny Clyde I would describe it as sweet but not overbearingly so, with a definite savoriness from the soy sauce and nuttiness from sesame oil. I think the glaze might be responsible for the initial hit of sweetness, to which I would adjust to taste if necessary with a tiny bit more soy sauce or water. Honey just makes the patties shiny but will add sweetness you don't expect in the typical hamburger patty.
Plus, a nice bowl of rice will help tone flavors down and make the sweetness balance out.
The flavor of Tteokgalbi is slightly sweet & savory. And I think the ratios came out quite nice. Don't worry. I (too) don't enjoy sweet dishes.
What can be a substitute for Korean Pear?
I can smell that through the screen 😂😋
I need to buy your screen. That's next level 🙌
I always wait the "forarm piece of spring onion" lol
Uhh can we use any kind of soy sauce??
I'm definitely making this one! maybe I'll even add some buns...
We call this kebab in Bangladesh. The recipe is almost the same... We just use a lot of different spices... 😊
Invite me or not .. I am going to your place to eat that... make some more for me if you have finished those all ..
lol that ginger shot tho.....'dan-yul'
Can I use applesauce if I can't find any pears? The pears here aren't sweet...
Can I adopt you both? You enjoy my heart and my stomach to! And I have many years to be your mummy! So I ask for important thing...I'm french grandma and so I must follow you with two levels of translation. Your english is perfect and it's not a problem when you are speaking. But I don't know some elements in your recipes, and then I cannot read korean words! Please, can you write every thing all along the recipe to help me? You should be TOO MUCH! Kisses from France.

I need this. Right. Now. I am not a king. I don’t care. Now. Rice, kimchi, and THIS..
What is the meaning of the work tteok? I thought it was a rice cake, like in tteokbokki.
Maybe macdunaldu made from thia #Mr.Queen
Can you make this with chicken?
Hmm - I've actually tried it before. But it doesn't come out well. Too tough - need more fatty meats.
Future Neighbor that's to bad. I don't eat beef or pork :(
One shot ginger! 😱 Your crazy lol
If you coat these royal banchans with breadcrumbs before frying, you might say the Koreans started Menchi Katsu. 😁
It's like meatloaf
Why can’t these just be burgers on a grill? Wow, I was just typing this before your last sentence……awesome, I’m going to cook them as hamburgers, thank you
Three seconds rule... HAHAHA
I am surprised that there was no garlic.
videowatcher inthearts He added a TBSP to the marinade.
Jonathan Stover- oops. After watching it again, you were completely right. He adds one TBSP to the marinade. This is why you should not watch these videos while getting ready for work....
MOFO TTEOKGALBI!
Death by ginger lol
