This is why Huell Howser is amazing. He admitted when he messed up or spoke out of place. He wanted to learn and understand all facets of California and the people who call it home. His openness is a model we should all follow. And if you can make people laugh, even better.
I couldn't stop laughing at his aversion to tongue. As a kid I use to love some meat my grandmother cooked, one day I was passing by the stove and said that looks like a tongue... She said it is.... Oh.... OK I love tongue. I also love menudo.
I guess you could say Huell really took a licking about his comment on Cow Tongue 😁 after watching this, I really want to try it ! we have a Mexican Market in my town, which also has prepared food , so I will be getting a tongue taco soon
Great episode, I also have never tried cow tongue, but do like Menudu. I have to try Langers Delicatessen next time I am in Los Angeles, I never heard of it until Izzy's Deli closed in Santa Monica, I ate at Izzy's several times when I visited Santa Monica, their sandwich's were huge I could never eat more then half in one sitting.
I grew up eating my Grandmothers picked steer tongue who raised me since I was three. And yes I still eat it to this day but yet to find one equal to my grannies.😁
In Brazil we eat “língua com molho madeira acebolada”. This means tongue smothered in onions and a creamy meat sauce. It is just liver liver smothered in onions as far as it looks but the texture is a bit different but also just as tasty.
How did Luis and Cameron keep from breaking up in moments like these? Dang, I miss Huell and what he did for So Cal. Guess so valuable a tool in his life, his golden Tennessee tongue, was just too much an impediment to the pleasurable experience of eating beef tongue.
It's so funny to watch a guy from Memphis being stunned by beef tongue considering the *&^%we have been known to eat here in the south. LOL (I miss Huell)
IN REALITY, COW TONGUE TASTES MUCH BETTER THAN ANY FILET MIGNON, T-BONE, OR THE NICEST HAMBURGER YOU COULD EVER HAVE!!!!!!!!!!! AND IT IS NOT AN ACQUIRED TASTE AT ALL!!!!!!!!!! IT`S JUST LIKE SAYING A HOT DOG OR A HAMBURGER IS AN ACQUIRED TASTE!!!!!! NOT AT ALL, A HOT DOG OR A HAMBURGER JUST TASTES GOOD......BUT COW TONGUE TASTES MUCH, MUCH BETTER!!!!! IT`S ALL IN THE MIND OF THE PERSON WHO IS EATING..... I GUESS IT`S NOT IN THEIR MIND THE PROCESS OF MAKING HOT DOGS, WHERE THEY USE EVERY POSSIBLE PIECE OF MEAT (SOMETIMES EVEN SOFT CARTHILAGE) FROM EVERY POSSIBLE PART OF THE ANIMAL AND THAT SURELY INCLUDES TONGUE, AND PEOPLE LOVE HOT DOGS. IT`S ALL IN THE MIND
Grew up on a farm..never ate tongue but it was cooked in my home as were liver and chitterlings. My other half is Latino so tongue and cheek meat are NORMAL for cooking!! I like cheek meat better and will NOT eat tripe of any form but my man LOVES them all and while he loves those things...I LOVE buttermilk...so...who am I to say what's normal??? Mama used to say...try it, you might like it!!

Too bad this episode had to end with that nasty fly landing on Huell's plate. I wouldn't be worried about the tongue. I'd be concerned about that fly just having been in the toilet bowl prior to landing on Huell's plate of food. Interesting how there are so many people who don't care about that. If a fly lands on my food I'm done. I won't eat it.
I live near that taco stand on Maine Street not only do they not wear gloves but they handle the money and go directly to handling your food..disgusting
This 'steer' tongue think sounds a bit bogus. It's overproduced as it is, and, if any shortage exists, it's due the it's use in soups like menudo or other offal's such as stew, etc. Japan isn't a big tongue place, South Korea is and so is Taiwan. Japan is often blamed for 'fake' demand price raises. The same thing was true for soft-shell crabs in Maryland and sending the higher priced crabs to Japan, leaving less of the great crabs for us. That one is true, but I'm not so sure about the tongue 'shortage'. The producers can always produce more tongue to increase supply, can't do that with crabs. The tongue tacos looked really good. It doesn't have the organ meat taste (or smell) and is kind of like unique pot roast. Recommend it to all, even people who freak out if you tell them what it is.
Blah, I don’t like tongue. It’s gross. I won’t eat chorizo, beef or pig. It’s the tongue cheeks and... You don’t realize it, but that’s what it’s made from. Yuck. Cant watch this 1. 3-25-21
Huell was amazed by everything. Truly the gold of California.

So Huell goes from stereotyping Steer Tongue,to stereotyping menudo.Gotta loves this guy.
I loved watching Huell when I lived in Southern California.
When was this recorded? That taco plate is probably like 8-10 bucks today.
We need more people like Huell Howser. Loved watching his shows.

DURING THE GREAT DEPRESSION NOTHING WOULD BE WASTED.
I always order a tongue buritto with rice, beans, onion & cilantro, green, and habanero sauce.
This guy is freaking out like he's going to eat a blue waffle.

the guy in the black shirt was to serious, Huell is just trying to have a good time lol
Huell blows a gasket at 10:45 with the tongue sandwich. Huell probably had some experience with tongue at other inopportune times.
How did Luis and Cameron keep from breaking up in moments like these? Dang, I miss Huell and what he did for So Cal. Guess so valuable a tool in his life, his golden Tennessee tongue, was just too much an impediment to the pleasurable experience of eating beef tongue.
Tongue is very popular in Brazil. You can find it in any lower to medium price restaurants. It is also quite popular in some places in Europe.
Haven't laughed this much in a while
It's so funny to watch a guy from Memphis being stunned by beef tongue considering the *&^%we have been known to eat here in the south. LOL (I miss Huell)
As someone that lived in Japan, yeah, cow tongue is in every barbecue joint in Japan.
Man I love tongue,,,and here my butcher cant sell it and I get mine for freee!!!!!!
If you ever ate smothered tongue with onions like liver and onions you would love it!
The only episode where Huell’s head exploded
Too much Red Bull and cocaine makes you want to answer all the questions yourself. God love him....
lol to the orient
I wonder how he felt about rocky mountain oysters?

My wife loves my tongue
That's a lot of tongue!
thats a lot of TONGUE!
The skin is edible if you pressure cook it like my granny did
Huell was right from the start, it's disgusting!
I tried tounge tacos by accident thinking they were "asada" & as soon as I felt the "nerve" texture spit it out. I'm with Huell on this one.
Whenever I feel disgusted by lengua... out of respect to others I hold my tongue... hahahahahahahaha aren't I the FUNNIEST?!?!?!?!?

It's a common sandwich. This guy acts like he's from outer space.
Huall stop being such a baby 🍼
Why is nobody wearing gloves? They could have just used the bathroom, wiped their butt and not washed their hands well or at all! Yuk!!

I wonder if some places charge a high price for Angus Tongue kind of like Angus steaks?
20:29,looks like there is hair on that tongue.
