Clara Bow was IMHO the most talented of all pre ww2 actresses. Way ahead of her time in that her mannerisms, expressions and delivery have a very "modern" feel to me. I think she'd easily be one of the top actresses if not the top actress today if she were around.
The whole movie from which this snippet is excerpted is a tour de face display of Clara's acting ability and onscreen magnetism. And, yes, none of the stilted chatty upper class mannerisms of many thirties stars.
that fight looked more real than the the fights leading men had at the time, with the big over exaggerated telegraphed punches and getting back up with their hair and clothes in perfect shape.
During a break while filming that day, Thelma sent Clara a note saying they were really going to go for it... Clara thought she was joking and that is why Clara looks so surprised , then follows through..
Kind of sad watching this and knowing that these two fine actress's careers were about done - Bow from early retirement, Todd from either murder, an accident or suicide (the jury is still out, so to speak.)
Too bad Clara Bow quit the industry so young (28), after this film. She does have a NY accent, but it is not that heavy. She would have been a Joan Crawford firebrand type in the 1930s --there were so many roles for sharp talking news-women types in those days.
I think Clara had had enough of Hollywood and the vicious press, and made one more movie after this and called it quits. I don't blame her. I love this movie though.
@@Chutney1luv Nasa's burns were really something. Especially about being in a "home" which I suppose she is referring to as something for sick or mental patients.
i am not detecting a brooklyn accent. she talks like a normal actor today would, not in that affected mid-atlantic posh accent actresses those days would use. what a spitfire!
@@davidwesley2525 Betty Boop's looks were based on singer Helen Kane of "I Wanna Be Loved By You" fame. Many women, like Helen, based their looks on Clara's. 😁💘💖💞💋
I agree, it really isn't that big an issue, but Hollywood always tries to find dumb minor flaws. It honestly reminds me of Mary Castle, a young 1940s-50s actress who looked a lot like Rita Hayworth, yet was rejected by a number of studios partially because of her gruff, deeper voice. Then Republic Pictures found her, cast her as the tough female railroad detective Frankie Adams for their new western TV show Stories of the Century, and she was just perfect (the show won an Emmy Award in its first season).
A better way to see it is, Taylor swift has helped introduced Clara Bow to a new audience sometimes it doesn’t matter where people come from or where they get there interest from as long as they are interested. I came from being a Taylor Swift fan but I am loving learning about Clara Bow and I have been doing a real deep dive into her life. I’m struggling to find places where I can watch her films but I am finding her life a interesting topic to delve into. 😊
Even in the 30's, they always go for the hair.
😂
Yep!! 😂

I watched “IT” and I thought it was hilarious

Well, let's not discredit Myrna Loy, Sylvia Sidney, Luise Rainer and Bette Davis.
@@telephilia She would certainly be better than about 90% of the ones we got today.
That must be the most polite argument I've ever heard
“I suppose you know you broke up my home..”
“I didn’t know that you were in a home.. when did you get out?” Omg! Lol!😂😂😂😂
😭🤣😂😅🗣️
I laughed so hard! 🤣🤣🤣
She sure was savage! 😂

Even back then, the guys were always hoping for a cat fight🤣🤣🤣
Well...there was always a chance a boob would fall out...
That's what I was thinking, the two dudes are like, "oh no, please don't, oh well, we tried."
Even went for the “pull down the top” move 😂
"There they go!!"
Thats been going on since the beginning of time...lol
Clara Bow is radiant in this scene! If anybody could handle themselves in a fight it was Clara! She was beautiful, sensitive and very talented!
Always had such a huge fascination with Ms. Clara Bow! Obviously she’s stunning, but I think her acting is extremely underrated.
Two legendary actresses Clara Bow and Thelma Todd
The fight looks real. I bet they planned for days how to make it look that way. Two great actresses.
She is amazing. Would have made such great movies for the rest of the '30s and '40s if she stuck around!
+Allen M. Quinn My feelings exactly.
The studios wanted a new IT girl, so they ran her out.
AND THERE'S NOTHING LIKE A MAD WOMAN
WHAT A SHAME WHEN SHE WENT MAD
"There they go, they're off" Sounds like a horse racing announcer!
How I love Clara and her witty comebacks
I honestly love Clara's voice here. Like I seriously want that voice
“i was wondering why you look so frightfully scarred” 😂
I love ❤️ the dialogues from back then.
@@VickGos-yr2gi it truly was iconic 🙏💕
Clara Bow was so gorgeous and her looks were so unique. Her sad life though.

I love Clara Bow❤️👍
Clara Bow AND Thelma Todd in the same film!
More realistic than most fighting scenes today
Clara was so beautiful
"A couple of the girls were whooping it up."

William Perry it is even more sad because in the case of Clara Bow it was a self imposed exile
I think Thelma was murdered but unfortunately I dont think anyone will ever know the truth 100% either way.
I was thinking the same!
Murder. I’ve read many accounts. Done a deep dive into her death. Murder. 100percent.
@@fairyqueen56 Well, case closed then! 🙄
That looked authentically vicious and painful.
I love clara bow😉😍

Mae West had a thick Brooklyn accent.
Clara's last film was Hoopla, which was released to the general public on November 30, 1933.
Bow was from Brooklyn.

Taylor Swift is full of culture. She knows everything and brings it all to her art.
LOL
Clara was lovely
This movie was ahead of its time
I love you, Clara! You will always be #1!
The girls even fought with dignity as bold as that was for the 30's !
I didn't expect that, it looks real.🥊
Clara Bow ~ Taylor Swift 👌
I don't know about you but that did not look choreographed. That was a real cat fight and it was filmed.
I thought the same thing! You can't act that! 😂

Clutch my pearls.....love and hip hop in polite society......Prince brought me here
Isn't it cool to know that Prince might've left his prints within the Clara Bow comments ?
I would have put my money on Clara! Get her girl!!!
Just checking here after taylor swift's "clara bow"🙈
Even back then they went for the hair !
New York moxie--a lot of Clara's appeal came down to that, which I'm sure she was proud of, like every New Yorker.
She really looks like Betty Boop here.

I just can't get over how beautiful she is ❤
Clara, had spunk! Even then, men loved seeing a "Cat Fight!" 😆
I read somewhere that as a teenager, Clara would get in fist fights....with boys. And beat the crap outta them. LOL. I like Miss Bow.
Dude's live a good cat fight. Rrrrarr!

Part of the reasons Clara Bow tetired early was it was said her voice didnt record well. I dont know, her voice sounds fine to me.

Clara's feistiness reminds me of Susan Hayward. Both from Brooklyn.
